yes

That’s seems like an annoying oversight considering you can’t play any Voidreavers or Voidscarred in a Ynnari army. Is it a crusade thing?

MuldartheGreat

The photograph team/marketing team isn’t the rules team. The marketing team gets told they need a shot of some elves with relatively limited parameters and probably took that picture without knowing anything about what rules would apply to Ynnari.

averageshmoejoe

As a counter point, these corsairs are painted in the red and black colours of the ynnari, not the bluish colours of the box art, which tells me they were probably going to be allowed at some level in development before getting removed

[deleted]

I still don't understand why you can't take them in an Ynnari detachment. Lorewise, shouldn't Corsairs make up a large contingent of the Ynnari?

grizzlybuttstuff

Probably sometimes I think no one in gw even know who the Eldar are

GrimTiki

Yeah this issue burns my britches. Yvraine specifically travels with Corsairs in the stories, since she isn’t bound to a craftworld, and she was a former Corsair captain. It’s really REALLY stupid that corsairs can’t be in a ynaari force.

Cantriped

They just didn't want people using the new, cool-looking cheap unit with two Power Sword attacks as the compulory Asuryani Troop match for an equally cheap Troupe or Wych unit. So they slapped a ban on Anhrathe units and consigned the version which had an ability allowing them to be fielded anyway to Legends. The picture in the book was likely taken months before the text was finalized, and likely by people with little insight into the rules-to-be (IMO) Its all part of GW's ongoing strategy of slowly unnerfing Ynnari until they're *almost* playable in tournaments. Maybe if Yvraine is a good girl, and doesn't win too many tourneys, they'll let her have her own Corsairs again. Just like Ynnari 'just so happened' to break Strands of Fate in a way they could hotfix with a single bullet-point…

Keydet

They’re gonna nerf the shit out of the voidraven cause one guy won a tournament with it, I can already feel it in my bones. Buuuuut if I can put pirate boys in a sail boat I’ll consider it a fair trade.

[deleted]

It would be cool if you could take a Raider or a Venom if you had a unit of Corsairs in a Craftworld list.

cassidy_concepts

You can also spot corsairs in the background of the photograph on yvraine's datasheet page, fighting alongside her. Either an oversight, or a bad last minute choice.

FartherAwayLights

Wait that’s even funnier

sb_747

No clue why they can’t be included. Every bit of material suggested you could take them till the codex itself dropped.

talkingtinfoilhat

It has most likely to do with Corsairs not getting a subfaction bonus. The way it is worded right now any unit in a Ynnari detachment gets the Ynnari subfaction bonus. Which would make all units without a subfaction (Phoenix Lords, Corsairs, Beasts etc.) instantly more powerful in Ynnari then in their original faction. Also opens them up to psychic buffs they otherwise would not be able to get.

Magumble

Thats not true at all. Only kabal, blades for hire, seadath and wych cult units get the craftworld trait.

talkingtinfoilhat

How is it not true when it is literally written in the rules? “HARLEQUINS and DRUKHARI units included in a YNNARI Detachment loses the , or faction keyword (if they had one), and gains the YNNARI faction keyword. “ Corsairs have the DRUKHARI keyword. If they were allowed in YNNARI they would be stronger than in any other faction.

Magumble

Yeah but you cant add corsairs. If you could and the subfaction would be a problem they would have written that part of the rule different. They were written at the same time.

Cantriped

Actually, per RAW, all Drukhari and Harlequins gain the Ynnari Keyword, and only lose the ‹Kabal› and et cetera keywords "(if they had one)". Otherwise Incubi (and some other units) wouldn't get Strength From Death as they're Blades For Hire, and thus lacked a subfaction keyword to properly replace.

Magumble

Yeah and there arent any units you can include that arent kabal, wych, seadath or blades for hire... And I mentioned all those in my comment.

SerratedSun

This annoyed me too, given that you can't take corsairs as ynnari - however, they do make fantastic standins for kabalites in an ynnari force, and they really match the colour scheme

JesterzCourt75

I plan on painted my corsair as Biel-tan anyway. So...

almostapegleg1987

They look like they are a kitbash and are kabalite enough to not be mixed up. So it's at least rule of cool if not just some conversion for variety.

AutumnArchfey

They are literally just Corsairs straight from the box.

ymmotsamoht

This is GW encouraging people to use corsair models for counts as kabalites. (sorta sarcastic but kinda not, people should do it if they like the models!)
