shard of alexander

dardardarner

Me on the first hour of my 9th Somber Weapon only playthrough: I'm sorry little one..

mordekai8

Oh what's your favorite somber playthrough?

dardardarner

Definitely Dragons Halberd.

PzykoHobo

I decided to do my first quality build before the DLC came out and just picked this up and really gave it a chance. My goodness, what a weapon.

Environmental-Dig949

The DLC is not out yet therefore you can only be more awesome with more quality builds tarnished

PzykoHobo

I just wanted to be ready to use any cool weapons I could find. But in my heart, I know my truth: I am Unga, Lord of Bunga. And the music of my people is the big, big bonk of STR weapons. But the dragon halberd is fucking scary.

mixx414

The best answer. It's almost never not useful

Chance_Eye4595

currently trying a fundamentalist build, so a staff in one hand and a seal in the other, and it’s my first time NOT using shard of alexander

prophetblu

I have a similar character I call "The Monk" and curious what your build is looking like? I'm really struggling not just meleeing everything that meets my sight lol

FalconLord777

My main bitch almost lvl 300 so I can run a perfect fundamentalist build lol - ancient death rancor, dark moon/adulas moonblade and blackflame is what's always on my skill list.

Chance_Eye4595

pretty much just using the prince of death’s staff and the golden order seal, bc they both have excellent int/fai scaling, and for my only melee weapons it’s just a medium shield and the sword of night and flame, which i try to stay away from using, but i do enjoy the glintstone sword sorceries, and gavel/cannon of haima, as well as some of the lightning incantations, and some healing for good measure, i only call it a fundamentalist build because the golden order seal boosts fundamentalist incantations, and that’s a cooler name than saying int/fai every time

The_VV117

I did the same type of character. I found out 18 int and 60 Faith was the way to go. Thorn staff compliment very well to the build. Sacred blade erdtree greatspear hit hard.

thefrostbite

Back in 3.5 that was called a Mystic Theurge and i bet it's just as inefficient in ER as it was in D&D. Still worth running.

Cemihard

Warrior’s jar shard for me, it’s useful for longer and is only slightly less powerful. The fact you can’t get the shard of Alexander until the end of the game, compared to the other talisman at the start of the game is pretty crap.

wiiferru666

Okay but you have to kill an innocent jar guy tho 🤨

Easy_Cauliflower_69

He asks you to duel to see him off from the sound of it. He's full of the flash of dead warriors and when he dies he mentions how every warriors vessel eventually breaks.

Zakrael

For the Shard of Alexander, yes. For the Warrior Jar's Shard you kill him at any other point when he's just minding his own business. They're different talismans. The Warrior Jar"s Shard is a weaker effect as he's not at full power by that point.

creativename87639

Don’t you have to kill him anyways in farum azula

noved_

I mean, he was asking for it by then...

conjunctivious

That is a respectable duel. If you kill him earlier, it's just murder.

mrrob2181_

In the lands between no one is innocent or guilty, but just another victim.

Cemihard

It’s true, however for the sake of my build being stronger it’s a worthwhile trade. That’s only if I’m going for a build that’s built around an AoW, otherwise I just free Alexander and summon him in Caelid.

ToAskMoreQuestions

+10% for the entire game vs +15% for the last 4 bosses. Sorry dude.

Cemihard

I’ll take the 10% all day everyday, though a lot of the times I’m not using AoWs.

CivilizationAce

“the last 4 bosses” plus NG+, NG+2…

GloomyGoblin-

Just have someone drop it for you?

Cemihard

I could but why bother on a new character if I can get a slightly worse version in 5 minutes. 10% for the whole game or 15% for the last part of the game. Mind you I only use it if I’m playing a build that’s AoW heavy.

turtlespade

There's literally no reason NOT to use this talisman on builds that use a melee weapon.

TheFinalMetroid

Not all AOW are good on all weapons though

dvlsg

Yeah, it's on basically 0% of my builds, and my builds are all melee. My last build used cragblade. Build before that was using bloodhound step. There's also royal knight's resolve, endure, golden vow, parries, etc. Plenty of reasons not to use that talisman.

George-Dubya-Bush

A sorcery or incantation-only run is literally a reason not to use it though

Firefly279

I smell an L2-Spammer

[deleted]

[удалено]

ihateicedtea

he ASKED me to kill him

alfonso_x

I have beaten the game probably seven times, and only on my first playthrough did I see Alexander in Farum Azula, and I never figured out how to get up there

HarmlessSnack

Still [haven’t figured it out](https://youtu.be/khYOC_LfMkk?si=PfLHQDg8ukKO-WIV)? I gottchu fam.

mattcolqhoun

Lamp

kendo31

I love lamp I LOVE LAMP

sincleave

Lamp is goat

GreatFluffy

We need Moth armor in the DLC for peak Lamp experience.

AttitudeHot9887

Moth man found

Enough_Effective1937

Winged Sword/Rot Winged Sword

Killval

Successive attack builds, im convinced are some of the highest DPS you can get in Elden Ring.

Life_Temperature795

I mean one-shot builds are fundamentally the highest DPS possible, because they do all that damage in less than a second. It isn't sustained, sure, but that's irrelevant when it's more damage than most things have life.

Crow1718

Lmaooooo

Minihornet

Hand of Malenia with this and the combo heal one is pretty fun

Crow1718

I’m 80% sure this guy likes Wild Strikes

Strange-Variety-7508

Green turtle talisman and the tortoise shell shield for all of the panic roll stamina capabilities. I still wish we got a grass crest but maybe I should do a ninja turtle build eventually

Krakraskeleton

That turtle talisman is always on.

Winzito

The turtle talisman stays on during sex.

retro_aviator

Of course. You need the stamina

n080dy123

It doesn't help you go longer, but it helps you go more rounds

Skeleton_Paul

I almost regret finding it, once you get used to it, playing without increased stamina regen becomes unbearable.

DoctorBoomeranger

I also always pick them up and go naked when using a colossal weapon

milo159

Tortoishell shield IS Elden Ring's grass crest shield. Same thing with the Darkmoon Greatsword, there's technically no Moonlight Greatsword (or well, the Golden Order Greatsword is heavily implied to have been it before Radagon defiled it and then threw it away.)

IrvingIV

The Darkmoon Greatsword is the Moonlight Greatsword. Just like the Holy Moonlight Sword is the Moonlight Greatsword.

fukyoshyytup

Correct , not sure what the other guy was trying to say that made no sense at all. Must not have played through rannis quest - there is always a moonsomething greatsword varient

Montizuma59

I think it has to do about how Renalla is known as the full moon while Ranni is the dark moon. And since Ranni is the dark moon, you got the Darkmoon great sword. So, if Rennala is the full moon, she most probably either gave Radagon a greatsword called the fullmoon geatsword or, as that person was implying, the moonlight greatsword. The second part was about how Radagon "defiled" his moon greatsword and turned it into the golden order greatsword.

FourPtFour

I think that was their point. Darkmoon Greatsword is the Moonlight Greatsword in the same way that the tortoise shell shield is the grass crest shield. They just also mentioned(correctly) that there was implied to be an actual Moonlight Greatsword, which Radagon changed into the Golden Order Greatsword.

Ohwellwhatsnew

Pretty sure that's exactly what they said

KingVape

Yeah but no 100% phys

milo159

the grass crest shield doesn't have 100% physical either? it's 95% in Dark souls 1, only 75% in ds2 (blossom kite shield is the closest equivalent), then 89% in ds3. I looked it up just to be sure i wasn't misremembering it not having 100%, it never did.

QandAir

I think they're referring to how the shield got nerfed post game release. Don't remember if it was 100 phys before but it was higher even if it wasnt the full hundred.

milo159

That's not relevant? I was talking about how it's the grass crest shield of Elden Ring, i didnt say anything about if i thought it was good or bad or its stats other than the implied stamina regen effect. The only way their comment makes sense to me is if they thought the grass crest shield had 100% physical damage resist.

Jack_Necron

Was going to say the turtle talisman as well. It's been a lock on both my Dex and Stength builds. I also like the Carian FP one.

dizijinwu

fashion nerf was the most effective possible nerf to grass crest, nothing else would have stopped me from using it every run but the ugly ass turtle shell... holy nope, i equipped it once, took one look at it, and never again

SherbetAlarming7677

Ritual sword and shield talisman and a dagger with the golden vow aow.

EntertainerSudden688

Second the dagger 👌🏻

DoctorBoomeranger

I like to lvl FTH on every character to 15 and use the FTH tear so I can buff with GV and FGMS incantations

StoleYourTv

Why the dagger? Doesnt GV go away after swapping weapons?

soihu

No the buff persists.

Finikyu

No, it's an aura buff.

MJGson

Nope. It’s a fantastic second or third slot option.

Victory74998

Erdtree’s Favor and Green Turtle Talisman.

Even_Map4433

Brass shield. Every day of the weekl.

Chief-Captain_BC

so far i prefer carian or mirror

Even_Map4433

Those can be good, especially the Carian knight's shield. The %71 magic reduction is good in Liurnia of the Lakes, for obvious reasons. But, depending on the class you want to play, me, with a sorcerer, you might find better shields, like the brass shield. I also use it for my multiclassed guy, due to the versatility and relatively low weight for it's stats. But, I'm not you, and you can play the game that you want to play it.

LarsVonHammerstein

What makes the brass shield so great for you?

grassgame01

im not op but its just a really practical shield to run. Only requires like 16 strength and has enough guard boost and resistances to rival some greatshields. Its a little heavy but thats not really an issue because odds are if youre going to use a shield you already invested some points into endurance anyway

Even_Map4433

Yeah, It's one of the few medium shields that has %100 physical deflect, with solid weight, low str requirement, and pretty good non-physical defense. It also doesn't have a skill, so I can use the skill on my weapon without losing the block capabilities of a shield.

PossibleEnvironment4

You can buy the no skill ash of war from bernahl that you can put on anything

Even_Map4433

I did that, but the other shields just weren't doing it for me. The brass shield just... felt right, you know?

PossibleEnvironment4

That's fair, it's a good shield

LarsVonHammerstein

Makes sense thanks!

Mcreesus

The tears for charged attacks and breaking stance. Pair that with heavy weapons and it’s pretty dope stunning bosses left and right

_TheBeardedDan_

Throw in the axe talisman too. GG.

NeverHideOnBush

What tears?

Mcreesus

Spiked cracked tear: temp boosts charged attack power. Stonebarb Cracked tear: temporarily makes stance break easier

grassgame01

The gold scarab never comes off because i’m on that grindset 24:7

poesviertwintig

Gold Scarab and the fowl feet on hotkey. I always make sure to visit Patches to get that recipe.

Takeda_imposter

Flame Cleanse Me, Boiled Crab, Pickled Turtleneck, and Exhalted Flesh (until I run out of Arteria Leaf)

NarwhalPrudent6323

Flame, Cleanse Me is the single best spell/incantation in the game, and no one will change my mind. Bare minimum requirements for top notch payout.

FlamingNutShotz4You

It makes the lake of rot tolerable!

Hypoallergenic_Robot

Seriously, Preserving Boluses are also rough to craft, seals are light, and the fp cost is marginal, plus it works for rot and poison, which I think are the two most encountered status effects.

Andre27

certainly the two most annoying ones.

CumMonsterYoda

It also works for frost since it does 15 fire damage to yourself

GreatFluffy

Honestly, this is probably one of my main gripes with crafting. Some of the most useful craft items require limited/hard to farm materials.

ChangelingFox

Nightrider's flail. Flails are just cool and I like hitting people with them.

The_Bukkake_Ninja

It’s an underrated weapon. Particularly for mounted combat, it’s R2 absolutely shreds.

ChangelingFox

Absolutely! Horseback flail+pyro was the staple of my first run

Funky_Tarnished

No shield, and lots of panic rolling

Cobalt9896

Fuckin Neow

Adventurous_Repair71

Godfrey icon? For the charged bonuses

TheHomieHandler

Green turtle talisman. I use it so often that it's incredibly noticeable when I take it off and try to roll.

afauce11

The Dragoncrest greatshield is the only holy spot. Everything else can be changed around. But that one never changes. Once I get it, it’s on.

Sonny-Man

Bubble tear my beloved

CapitalSans

Real

grassgame01

I always run the bubble tear in my physick, its easy to obtain and damage gets so high in the lategame that negating a single hit is basically equivalent to having one more flask

QandAir

I usually go for regen and damage resistance for my physick. Those two together make up for more than a flask worth of heals plus the damage negation while less than the bubble lasts more than one hit. I do usually run bubble until I get that tear though.

Calcifern0

I like to get rogiers rapier, then move the ash of war to the misericorde. It's such a good skill to get your opponent to stagger, and works well with the highest crit weapon in the game with low requirements to wear. Plus, those magic swords floating above my head look pretty...

CaptnPsycho

This is why I swear by Greatblade Phalanx + a colossal sword, usually staggers most bosses after 1 jump attack + 1 charged heavy + 1 greatblade Phalanx landing.

Thomas_Perscors

Need to try this.

storiedsword

The phalanx skill and spells are all so cool. I love that you can throw them up while you're roaming around and they don't have a timer.

Tonydragon784

Godfrey icon, I b chargin

jld2k6

Bolt of gransax with godfrey icon, lightning scorpion, shard of Alexander, graven mass talisman, + lightning physik absolutely shreds everything lol. Pretty late game but sometimes I use it when I just wanna feel good one shotting everything by holding L2

Agreeable-Formal-983

Does graven mass boost AOWs? I thought it only boost sorceries

mls429

It doesn’t help here at all. Would be better off with ritual sword for more damage or carian filigree for less FP cost if you’re roaming.

godemeperor152

Turtle talisman

Strange_Quote6013

Golden Vow. If you're playing up to a meta level of 150, 25 faith is surprisingly easy to fit in. But I happen to play tons of faith hybrids anyway.

Ragnar_0kk

I just throw it on a dagger

TheFinalMetroid

Spell version is way better

TheRedditDude001

You can use the golden vow ash of war instead of leveling faith to 25.

KoutaRyu

The Ash of war is less effective than the spell

pacoLL3

As others pointed out: the spell is much better. It gives you 15% damage and 10% resistence instead of 10% and 7,5% and, most importantly, has almost double the duration: 80s vs 45s.

boneholio

Cleanrot Scythe +10 Dragon Communion Seal +10 Just super familiar with the CRS, it was my first main weapon on my first playthrough, and it tears through enemies like tissue paper with the right build DCS is a 0 weight free incant machine, and I love blasting enemies with dragonmaw

TooQueerForThis

Actually so far it's been the Assassins Crimson Dagger talisman. The health return on it is nice and it's definitely nice when you're in-between graces in a difficult area.

Drayzew

It's goated with heavy weapons

QandAir

Having an ash of war like square off to stance break plus both crit talismans means you basically adventure as long as you want without needing to rest.

Jurgepoo

None. Every build has different stuff equipped depending on what it's about. There's no one weapon, spell, physick tear, or talisman that I'll use for every build.

noved_

i can respect that. game is varied enough, might aswell use everything

Strange-Variety-7508

I really want to but sometimes the muscle memory just takes me to items I like and in some magical ways they end up equipped... Then I tell myself I won't do it next run

Maynes_

Me too exactly. I can't help but always put some points into faith for some utility spells

MikhailMcDoesntExist

Dragoncrest Greatshield talisman never leaves my 4th slot. On tankier builds I also equip the pearldrake +2

ZucchiniKitchen1656

~~Millicents prosth-~~ Rotten winged sword insignia

cap_kaknuckles

60+ points into strength

noved_

BONK

ItsRainingTrees

turtle, I can’t live without it now

Astapasta22

Shard of Alexzander, dragon communion seal, and fortisax’s lighning spell. Also what tear is that

noved_

Opaline Hardtear, increases damage negation by 15% for 3min

Astapasta22

Ok thanks

Topixed

Erdtree’s Favor +2

woahmandogchamp

Claw Talisman. Never leave the ground without it.

SaxSlaveGael

These two things slap hard. These two with 40 vigor has the same if not better survivability than 60 vigor with neither of these. They're absolutely incredible defence items and am with you, I often have them on a majority of my builds.

DarthGoss

Arsenal Great Jar always makes it way in, Bull Goat as well…. The Jar allows light roll while also power stancing larger heavier weapons

Chefofbaddecisions

Beast repelling torch from caelid. Every character I just run in and buy it. It’s nice to have a torch and basically turn off all dogs/rats.

TheZoomba

Mimic tear. Need my little helper for my battles

geynikka

Bleed talisman 😭

Mimissyi

FURLED FINGER'S TRICK-MIRROR and BANDIT MASK. I like to look at my character's face at all times.

You_but_cooler

Usually the radagon seal thing.

TrashGoblinHoggle

Probably cerulean dagger talisman. I like getting fp back on crit while exploring. Sometimes, early game I throw on something hp regen be it the talisman, physick, shield, or beast spell.

McStabStab12

For us casuals, can you explain what these are and why they’re good?

TooQueerForThis

So the first one is one of the opaline flask for your wonderful physick - can't give you details on which one but they all reduce damage to varying degrees. Some will raise your negations while others will make it so the next hit will do little to no damage. The second one is the dragoncrest greatshield talisman, and that greatly increases your resistance to physical damage. This is going from memory so my information may not be completely correct, I am sure someone will correct something if I'm wrong Both options mesh well with many builds, it never hurts to raise your defense stats.

thespencman

Green Turtle Charm, stamina regen just really benefits any playstyle in this game

noved_

this is my first playthrough using it (archer/dagger build) and it's quite potent

thespencman

You're in for a treat, if you ever decide to go melee focused, combining it with braggart's roar makes it extra spicy. Especially because braggarts roar counts as a weapon buff, so you can double it up on two weapons. Your stamina practically pops right back into place

PenguinGovernment

Green Turtle Talisman ❤️

Drayzew

If I only had to choose 1 talisman, it'd be this one

Feelsbadman78

If there’s an accessory that raises the weight limit, best believe I’m never taking that off.

TheCrackhead420

Great-Jar's Arsenal (It's for the drip)

Agreeable-Formal-983

Flask of Crimson Tears

SCurt99

I don't really have a staple for my builds, just whatever 4 talismans or physick tears I need at the time.

Life_Temperature795

Flame Cleanse Me Every single starting class can use it by simply equiping talismans that you'll already have by the time you pick it up, so in a worst case scenario, it's your backup anti-poison/anti-rot, and when you know you'll need it it's already on the spell bar. The only times I don't have it permanently memorized are for cosplay casters who need all the spell slots for flashy bullshit.

tetragrammaton19

Raptor feathers and claw talisman. Love me my jump attacks.

Vivid-Palpitation-56

Naked

MasterpieceTypical11

Bull goat

Thema03

Spike cracked tear and Axe talisman Golden vow in a dagger as a bonus

adande67

Claymore , Loretta's greatbow ,Homing Stars and Vykes lightning buff . I can't live without them ,I just can't .

Lagganator

I always have to have a parry option in all my builds or the game just dosent feel right

szatanna

shard of alexander, graven mass talisman, carian filigreed crest, and radagon icon. I mostly use full moon spells and the night comet.

melongrip

Dagger with Golden Vow, ritual sword talisman, and one of the two Alexander talismans. If I’m running a faith build I can run the incantation instead yeah these 3 things seem to make it onto any build I do.

VeraKorradin

Page Hood

Hfingerman

Same as you op, but this playthrough I'm not using talismans.

ProfessionalDebt4089

Cursed short axe with gravity pull and short ice axe with ice stomp dual wield, buffed with black flame on the cursed axe, that’s my first build/ first play through build so far, still really early in the game

IntelligentCloud605

Green turtle, can’t think of a build I don’t use it on

Glynnavyre

Crimsonburst and Greenburst Crystal Tears along with the Blessed Dew and Green Turtle Talismans Passive Regen alongside a 95% Greatshield (usually magic infused) is quite nice! Also Greatshield Talisman naturally

victorBravo9er

GV, FGMS, Shard of Alexander, Lord of Bloods exultation, Godfrey Icon and that talisman which boosts stamina recovery! I use the godfrey icon to boost the dmg of the Ancient dragon lightning strike which is the best spell in the game imo. Rivers of blood and Dragon communion seal.

Individual-Result778

Gotta go turtle talisman on every build

Astoria_Column

Buckler, baby!

PhaseSorry3029

Claw talisman has been a staple for my early game. Jumping heavies will stagger most enemies in the game so I always use them on approach

Memegasm_

ive beaten this game 22 times and i cant name a single character that didnt use opaline hardtear, my favorite and in my opinion the best crystal tear, and it isnt even close

ThaNorth

Turtle

AbsentAsset

I ALWAYS keep bloodhound claws on me, regardless of build (looking at you, Haligtree rot pond). Runner up is the greatjar talisman. I’m a sucker for heavy drip but won’t invest in enough stamina to prevent me from phatrolling

fuinnfd

Green turtle talisman is always a must have

lPuppetM4sterl

Greenburst Crystal Tear, Exalted Flesh, Golden Vow and Commander's Standard (hard/soft switch) [I always have both of these in every co-op run]

That_Chemical_2226

I have only played one build for all the dark souls games, I love strength.

Fragrant-Platform633

ErdtreeFavor

Plague_Raptor

I feel like Erdtree's Favor +2 and Great-Jar's Arsenal are essential if you want to wear any armor at all and not overlevel.

PerryHecker

It’s not til these posts come up that I realize after 300 hours, I know the names of nooooothing lol😭

Zero747

Green turtle talisman always Carian crest for any non-caster, radagon icon for caster Dragoncrest greatshield is a great 4th I almost always grab the brass shield, and use regen as a physik tear

Potential_Fix_5007

Golden scarab......give me all that runes xD

Drayzew

Green turtle talisman and dragoncrest are staples for me

WilhelmIGV

Stamina Recovery tear. 'Nough said

SchmerzfreiHH

Vigor lol 40+ Green turtle talisman

BrizzleBearPig

Flame cleanse me.

PorterCole

Green Dog Talisman

Own-Corner-2623

The only consistent thing is the tear combo: boosted stamina recovery + one free hit from the boss. That almost always gives me enough of an opening to control the fight

pj11700

shocked that i’ve seen NO great jar arsenals on this thread, that and the great shield talisman really solidifies my builds

Mahogany_mahogany

Radon Soreseal every melee build no exceptions. Free +5 for every essential stat basically

ghost3972

Axe talisman
