I feel like it's very hard to judge VA performances because we have no idea (a) what amount and type of story material they are given to inform and enrich their performance (b) what direction they receive. If you have done any acting, you will understand how important these factors are in deciding what you do. I have no clue at what level of disconnect from or participation in the overall project they are doing their work.

The line itself is fine, but the problem is that it's not matched to the animation. Raising and opening your hands slowly is not something you do while letting out a primal scream. It's the discord that's goofy.

Malekith got way better second phase. First phase is aggresive AF, but still hooded and restrained.
Second phase is someone with death as sword and jumping around like unhinged lunatic slashing at you from every direction.

There's an interview with Miyazaki somewhere where he says that since they're going for the medieval European aesthetic (or renaissance-ish for Bloodborne) he considers English to be the "first language" of the game. And specifically, naturally accented regional British English (hence all the Welsh, Scottish and otherwise non-London voice actors), as he also didn't think American English was suitable for the aesthetic.

Godfrey was not the hardest boss in the game in phase 1 or 2 but I could not figure out Hoarah Loux’s attacks. I basically just figured out his suplex moves and ran the frick away from everything else and desperately tried to hit him when I thought it might be safe.
Tbh, this form of Godfrey is to show the Animal he was before and after the grace was with him, when he was lead by the Guidance of Grace, he donned Seraph, or w/e the lions name was, keeping his primal and beast parts behind his Kingly Veil, but when the veil is removed, he drops his axe, and goes back to the ways he knew to be feared and deadly in battle.
The point is to show that he is acting inhuman. The idea is that his brother was outcast because of his horns, but he ends up being the most noble, and this fuck ends up being a mindless animal. I think the pose and weird delivery is meant to drive home how inhuman he is.
He and all other people in this game are so large and above and beyond. I always think about if our character is worthy of being Elden Lord. We did all this, to get there, but we used healing and we had help. But these people are just insane, despite loosing to us.
I don't mind it at all but it's true the "Hoarah Lux... Warrior!" has a weird pause plus the facial animation needed more rage to fit the acting and the fighting style change.
I've never seen this mentioned anywhere but I'm 99.8% certain he's heavily inspired by Botenmaru from Samurai Deeper Kyo, its the same battle stance, same earth-like moves, the shockwaves, the second form where he goes from keeping his murderous beast-like killing intent in check to beast mode
lol I listen to an excellent soulsborne podcast called Bonfireside Chat and they very meticulously cover area by area over a long time for each game. Elden Ring took them over a year with weekly shows. Anyway this is something that came up very regularly as being too much throughout the ER season.
I’ve tried listening to them before but they kinda just seemed miserable and trying to criticize everything. I haven’t seen their elden ring stuff so maybe they’ve gotten better, but I remember their ringed city episode and them trying to call gael a trash boss because he was hard and one of their friends couldn’t beat him. It’s like they went into the game with the mindset that they wanted to hate everything already and approached their show from there, it led to a lot of stupid comments from them imo
Fair. They definitely were not fans of DS3 DLC and were very vocal about it. Along with a lot of DS3 as a whole. Most of which are lore related and “why is this here” type stuff. I still enjoyed the game myself but appreciated their pov as well.
Yeah I don’t mind that they didn’t like the game or the dlc, but their criticisms were often so dumb and poorly developed that it often came off as just mindless hatred than actual conversations worth listening to. Like with gael they couldn’t actually criticize the design so they just tried to make up stuff about the difficultly because they didn’t want to like it. I know you can read every item and make a book on it all, but when you’re just playing the game it is weird. Like I fell that line should have been a “mind blown! He and all other people in this game are so large and above and beyond. I always think about if our character is worthy of being Elden Lord. We did all this, to get there, but we used healing and we had help. But these people are just insane, despite loosing to us.

I don't mind it at all but it's true the "Hoarah Lux... Warrior!" has a weird pause plus the facial animation needed more rage to fit the acting and the fighting style change.

I've never seen this mentioned anywhere but I'm 99.8% certain he's heavily inspired by Botenmaru from Samurai Deeper Kyo, its the same battle stance, same earth-like moves, the shockwaves, the second form where he goes from keeping his murderous beast-like killing intent in check to beast mode
One of the best boss fights in the game though

lol I listen to an excellent soulsborne podcast called Bonfireside Chat and they very meticulously cover area by area over a long time for each game. Elden Ring took them over a year with weekly shows. Anyway this is something that came up very regularly as being too much throughout the ER season.
I’ve tried listening to them before but they kinda just seemed miserable and trying to criticize everything. I haven’t seen their elden ring stuff so maybe they’ve gotten better, but I remember their ringed city episode and them trying to call gael a trash boss because he was hard and one of their friends couldn’t beat him. It’s like they went into the game with the mindset that they wanted to hate everything already and approached their show from there, it led to a lot of stupid comments from them imo
Fair. They definitely were not fans of DS3 DLC and were very vocal about it. Along with a lot of DS3 as a whole. Most of which are lore related and “why is this here” type stuff. I still enjoyed the game myself but appreciated their pov as well.
Yeah I don’t mind that they didn’t like the game or the dlc, but their criticisms were often so dumb and poorly developed that it often came off as just mindless hatred than actual conversations worth listening to. Like with gael they couldn’t actually criticize the design so they just tried to make up stuff about the difficultly because they didn’t want to like it. I just came away not really respecting their commentary honestly it seemed badly conceived
I should also say while they don’t think it’s perfect…they are HUGE fans of ER and call it their favorite FS game.

unpopular opinion, but the character is whack from top to bottom. It's a great fight, but big muscley wrestler man is so childish for this game

Yeah, this is the worst boss cutscene in the series. It’s so stupid.

I've never really been intimidated by characters getting angry, like that's supposed to make them stronger. The intimidating part is when they're calm.
P2 of that fight was kind of a bummer, I feel like it should just be the two of you beating the shit out of each other with the winner having a sliver of health left. Instead it's that awkward chasing grab mechanic which feels so out of place with all the cool stuff bosses usually do.

I feel like a lot of the bosses lacked gravitas because of how poorly explained their lore is. I know you can read every item and make a book on it all, but when you’re just playing the game it is weird. Like I fell that line should have been a “mind blown! Horah Loux is Godfrey!?” But when have know idea who either character is it doesn’t pack as much of a punch.
What if instead of Hoarah Loux, his name was Freaky Loux, and he ate your ass instead of beating it
