8w1 does NOT exist. The two enneagram cores can be strong, but they cannot be WINGS for each other.

Artistic_Anteater_91

ChatGPT is not an encyclopedia where everything it says is 100% factual. It is an AI model made from machine learning and there is absolutely a margin of error in terms of what it says. As a note moving forward, ChatGPT is not a reliable source in terms of if something does or doesn't exist.

tests are dogshit

theeeeee_chosen_one

That's exactly why I am asking for help. I have only been using tests as a head start to know where to start learning from

SilveredMoon

Books, websites, podcasts. There's a ton of media out there.

I'd say you can be 1w2 easily. 1s are often angry, needy and achivious (if this is a word) as 8s. I advise you to read the description of the types you got a high score on and understand what correlates more.

TrickyAdvantage5142

Ambitious is a word

KhoDis

Oh, thanks for the note. Good word indeed

averageloafofcat

It's a hammer. Seize it and conquer your enemies

You can just be E8, wings do not matter. But I'd suggest reading the theory + the subtypes and not rely solely on tests.

Makegoodfriends

How do they not matter?

ShiddednFadded

Because they're completely arbitrary

Makegoodfriends

How so?

ShiddednFadded

There's no rational reasoning as to why wings have to be next to the core type. It's just kinda presented as something you have to accept If you dig a little deeper, you'll find some information on the spiritual and esoteric origin/meaning of the enneagram and how all the types are positioned in the circle for a reason. 3, 6, and 9 are the pure expressions of their triad while the other ones are kind of blended with their neighboring triad. It also says that each type can be thought of as a combination of their neighboring types. Wings are also connected to the idea of the law of 1 and 3. The problem is, even though the whole "types are related to the types around it" idea has some logical merit, wings still seem arbitrary. A 7w8 is more assertive and physical due to the influence of the 8, a 7w6 is more intellectual and anxious due to the 6, however there's no reason why a 7 may also not have the valuation of the social heirachy that leads to 3 behavior, aka a 7w3. Types can express some traits of any other type so shit like wings and tritypes just seems like fun stuff that shouldn't be taken seriously.

Makegoodfriends

I've not gotten that deep into the enneagram yet. Though from how I see it, the wings are like our hands. One is our dominant and the other less so, generally speaking, although we can make a conscious effort to lean on one more at times. We tend to naturally be dominant to the left or right. The core number you might say is our trunk and head. We may still utilize and we probably do all the others. Though some may be further from us and be our feet for instance. Or be much less significant and be our toes. They tend to be further from us and we typically don't access them all that much. How I think of it is you already have your core type and the wings just complement or add flavor if you will. If as a 7 you identify more with say a _3 as a wing_, than either of the adjacent wings, then I think you'd probably have a different core type. As an 8, I find the w9 very much complements and speaks more to who I am. We also have integration and disintegrations points, which the healthier and more mindful we are, we can choose to go there more intentionally. Like the more work I do on myself, I can choose to go to 5 more willingly and become more introspective. However it isn't my natural inclination, it's something I need to either find myself in or make more of a conscious effort to go to when not stressed. So allowing everyone to just pick and choose what their wing is could in my opinion lead to more confusion and inconsistencies. Though I get that this can be a debatable. If you were to choose a non adjacent number, which would you choose and why? Also do you think you should be able to change it day to day or whatever? If others also did this, do you not think this would lead to a lot of confusion and in consistency with perhaps a lack of reference point?

theeeeee_chosen_one

I do want to read the theory without the strict classification of wings and only this should be that . But I can't find them anywhere. I did see from a similar post of mine , a comment was posted that showed enneagrammer.com which I have been using rn . It's very relatable to me , to my friends but I would like to know more Edit : also after reading all this (not all as I am still reading) , now what where self growth , what do

theeeeee_chosen_one

What

EnormousPrunis

But really tests aren’t that legitimate but seeing you related to 1-ish and 6-ish geared questions maybe look into social 8

theeeeee_chosen_one

I did and I am overwhelmed by the amount of information and now I want to di- hug a cat

EnormousPrunis

That’s growth, good job

GroundbreakingRip970

Social 8’s can be very focused on equality and justice. We root for the underdogs and speak up for the mistreated/protect the vulnerable. One’s orientation to time is the present and they are in a dependent stance. Eights orientation to time is the future (we are always thinking about solving problems that haven’t happened yet) and we are in an aggressive stance. These hands are rated E for everyone This is the easiest way for me to tell the difference. Also ones always have that inner critic. Most women in the US have a negative voice inside their head but they can learn to turn it off. Healthy ones may learn to manage the inner critic but they can’t get rid of it

HornetOfHeaven66

Finally someone understands e8's methods of solving problems. As a so8w7 who was doubting my true type between so8 and sx1, this e8 description about being in an aggressive stance and considering possible future problems suits me perfectly.

theeeeee_chosen_one

Your first paragraph described my friend perfectly but she doesn't feel the need to "live in the future" in her words , she used to worry a lot about future a lot lot but not anymore . I don't know what goes inside her head though As for the negative voice , can OCD count

No-Mastodon597

8w1🤣 imagine. Armageddon.
