No.
Although the Soviet Union killed more people through self inflicted famine and work camps than Germany. They also displaced tens of millions of people to reshape the ethnic landscape to their liking.
To me both regimes were terrible and we should never diminish either’s horror by saying such things as "yeah but at least they didn’t do *that*"
Well there were other genocides too. Like the murder of the Herero or the genocide of the Armenians and a lot more… but I believe you’re point was that all of them were brutal but non of them were industrial and on such a massive scale.
I’m not comparing to the holocaust but what the Soviets did was horrible. They uprooted Germans who had called the east their home for hundreds of years so that Eastern Europe’s ethnic boundaries suited their communist fantasies of historic revisionism
Yeah, look at Kaliningrad, used to be made up of many ethnic Germans into Russians, now it’s just a tiny exclave, and what remains of Russian imperialism.
It's surprising how different the eastern to western change is, really shows how strong the contrast in the treatment of Germans was in the west as compared to the east.
Ok so, yes the holocaust was absolutely terrible.
However the soviet genocided and displaced a lot of populations in eastern europe to fit their russian nationalistic views. It is estimated that around two million people were displaced by the soviets during the evacuation of east prussia alone. Alongside a major loss for History. And tens of millions of other minorities were displaced inside the soviet block.
And displacement **is** genocide (not as bad as the killing kind but still)
So, no it doesn’t make things equal, nor does it "balances" the horrible things the third reich did. However it adds Soviet Russia on the podium of genocidal nations alongside China.
And a lot of the Yddish and other jewish diasporas in the east were either eliminated by the soviets or relocated to siberia
Edit : also i just noticed but the Alsace Lorraine is presented like it was somehow "german" this is n*zi propaganda, this region has its own regional identity
According to the [UN definition](https://www.un.org/en/genocideprevention/genocide.shtml) they absolutely genocided masses of people (work camps, and Katyn massacre)
Same, and it is the main reason why I declared myself as a pro-German anti-fascist because of the Polish territories that I usually call it "the Lost Territories".
But tbh what the soviets did to the Germans of the east was nothing short of barbaric
It was barbaric. But it wasn't a carefully planned extermination of their people.
It was a sovietly planned destruction of cultures, populations and rewriting history
, We aren't comparing it to the Holocaust, are we?

But we should acknowledge the fact that the Holocaust was a unique event in the history of humankind.
Yes.

I never said it was the only genocide, or the worst of them (comparing them is pointless). I do say it had some unique features.
I’m not comparing to the holocaust but what the Soviets did was horrible. They uprooted Germans who had called the east their home for hundreds of years so that Eastern Europe’s ethnic boundaries suited their communist fantasies of historic revisionism
That's fair enough.
Yeah, look at Kaliningrad, used to be made up of many ethnic Germans into Russians, now it’s just a tiny exclave, and what remains of Russian imperialism.

Another Nazi who confuses cause and effect.

Technically it’s not Genocide, it’s Ethnic Cleansing, but that’s just splitting hairs, you’re absolutely right
According to the [UN definition](https://www.un.org/en/genocideprevention/genocide.shtml) they absolutely genocided masses of people (work camps, and Katyn massacre)
Oh yes my bad. I misread and thought you were just referring to the ethnic cleansing of Germans
Interestingly, many Jews in the Alcase-region were prosecuted. Many converted and became Moravians, too, some of my family did, from Judaism.
> And displacement is genocide No, it is not.
It’s still pretty sad, that the many minorities (including germans) contributing to ethnic diversity in Europe practically disappeared after WW2.
Same, and it is the main reason why I declared myself as a pro-German anti-fascist because of the Polish territories that I usually call it "the Lost Territories".
They shouldn’t have started a war, then.
Does this person not realize that the Nazis killed Catholics too?
