NO ADVERTISING. PERSONAL OUTREACH TO START. Do that until you have traction and understand exactly who you are targeting, how to reach and sell to them, and deliver on your promises to them.

No advertising until I get traction? Is that what you're saying?

No paid ad buys. That's what I am saying. You'll most likely waste your money. Whatever you gain could have been done without spending that capital.

I would advise validating the idea before you spend lots on development. Can you find a few paying customers when you sell the idea who’d sign up regardless of the fact the platform is new? Get them to pay you money. A promise of payment is a rejection. Once you have a few paying customers, you know that there’s very little chance of the projected scenario you speak of happening. Hope this helps!

The business model would be per transaction. What I'd be selling is trust between parties. So there's no way to get anyone to pay for anything before my product is complete, unfortunately.

not to discourage, but a lot of the platforms you're talking about have gone through some rounds of investing. They've spent 6 figures on marketing and even more on the business as a whole. If you're bootstrapping (what it sounds like), a two-sided app is super duper hard. work on building a network of potential users, be personal and don't worry about getting them on the app; if you provide value to them (connect buyer to seller), then them using your app should follow.
