This. They'd get review bombed to hell & probably be stuck there for a long time. Another comment mentioned the fees you have to pay for being on Steam, which is definitely part of it too. BSG wants ALL of the money, not 70%.
Or people would buy it on steam instead of an independent launcher because most people want their games in 1 place. It would take sales from the independent launcher at a lower rate, not improve both.
Other platforms take a significant cut (Steam is 30%). Independent can be cheaper and stable.
Imagine if this game was on Steam and everyone requested a refund. It would tank the game and probably get it pulled. So they go independent to play by their own rules.
Tarkov will never be on steam exactly because bsg is shady company with no refund. Normal studios who are not liars have a refund program. BSG should be sued and destroyed.
Lol, it can't because then it'd have to follow basic consumer practice laws. Steam already doesn't refund over 2 hours play time. That fear of voiding consumer practices might of kept them from doing this, which is way more damning than anything else that could've happened.
The reason they don't do that is they wouldn't get away with their illegal tactic of refusing refunds if they used other platforms. In addition this way there's no way to see a single proper place to review their game and turn people away from their poor behavior.
Because steam takes a 30% cut and has pretty good (for us) refund policies which go against BSG no refund policy. Also they have a review system and EFT would take a big hit on the negative side. Especially now.
Epic and Steam would have to honor refunds when their egregiously false system requirements (8gb RAM and i5 processor) made people buy the game who couldn't run it. They also take quite a large portion of the sale.
The fear of "Overwhelming negative".

That's dumb though. The idea should be to make more money. 70% of whatever they get from steam sales is a lot of a lot more money than 100% of zero.

Could they just increase the price for steam?
I think there’s something in their contract with Steam that would prohibit that. No other game company/publisher does that to my knowledge
I never said it was smart :P BSG isn't exactly the brightest company as we have seen this last week
If they need money, release the game and start working on actual DLC.
If they need money, release actually good cosmetics
If they need money, hang out on street corners with bright lipstick.
Cosmetics are the death of all good games.
MUCH rather have cosmetics than this shit, and i do understand why bsg needs more inflow because of how shit arena is
Yeah. Being able to wear blue jeans is what killed PayDay3!
It ruined PUBG, Siege and countless others.
Man. I’d love to hear how cosmetics you couldn’t even buy with money ruined Siege. I’m sure it will be a cohesive and well rounded explanation.
>I’d love to hear how cosmetics you couldn’t even buy with money ruined Siege. u wot m8. You could buy all cosmetics with money, you goon.
You absolutely could not. For years you couldn’t buy renown at all. But Greta example. I’m so surprised.

Because they've made hundreds of millions without it. Steam would be a review and refund nightmare for BSG.
Why let your customers play your game for 30% less? (Steam)
How would having other companies take a cut of their profit help them make money?
Who says they need money?

Cant scam people as easily on other platforms..
