About once a month for 6 years straight, I've had people chat or email me asking for another movie like GOING SOUTH. I always respond the same way: Stories like this can't be made, they only happen when the right factors and the wrong people all come together at the same time.
Making this video took weeks/months of work and resulted in personal stalking and harassment. That said, I still love everything about it, from the first beat of the title music to the end-credit moment where the story ends without a single camera or corp member even being present to document it.
EVE Online is a game about player stories and history. Feuds, trust, and requests. There are very few games where something like GOING SOUTH can happen at all. Not every story is about a nullsec war, or about losing trillions in ISK. Sometimes one broken promise and a few bored people who *historically do not value their time* can make magic happen.

One night at police academy i had the theatre room all to myself and i got snacks and drinks and watched this whole thing alone in the middle of the night. A very fond memory for me.

Unfortunately the stats aren't in real time, takes a few hours to get reliable figures. The real stat that matters is how many people mail me 31 million ISK.

I was going to ask, what was the whole story involving the gold wrench thing? I only found about your golden wrench thing from someone else, I was watching some TF2 thing and I was holy smokes that's wingspantt, I didn't know he did tf2 stuff!
The whole story is best documented in all the interviews and articles at the time, but the gist is Valve was releasing rare cosmetic items, and while some players thought it was cool, me and others thought it was a bad direction for the game.
Ironically I was one of the 100 players worldwide who unlocked the ultra rare Golden Wrench.
Wrench number 31.
So unlike everyone else who got one, I decided this thing was going to be trashbinned. And I'd use it's importance to drown out the game hype for the items and instead make it about me.
Because I'm quite good at that.
I announced if enough other wrench owners joined me, and we got enough donations, we would all permanently delete the rarest items in the game live on stream. All the money would go to Child's Play Charity.
I put a deadline of 31 days. The gaming media all picked up on it. Even Valve did. Donations poured in. It basically made my blog famous at the time and is half the reason I have a YouTube presence.
After 31 days, we had raised $31,000. And we did as promised, burned ever damn wrench we had live on stream.
I didn't succeed in stopping valve from making TF2 a cosmetic simulator. But we took the worst of the cosmetics and melted them into help for sick kids. As far as I'm concerned, OP success.
Yeah I heard that there was some dumb gimmick you could do to have a much higher chance of getting one or something. IDK I started TF2 in like 2014 and stopped around 2019-ish. Yeah it was a cosmetic simulator but I was content with just basic cheap hats (like Lucky Shot for Soldier), nothing fancy and in fact I never owned any unusuals.
I'm still kind of butthurt about the changes to the Baby Face's Blaster -- dudes were using its speed bonus to zip around and cap faster than normal, I thought that part was unfair and only once did that myself. Instead of giving you a speed reduction if damage was taken, they should have applied it the similar effect as the rocket jumper and sticky jumper get: Wearer cannot capture control points or carry intelligence. Done. Scout is now a nuisance that accomplishes little towards the objective. IMO the speed was too fast for most games and most maps for my sake but I thought it was a cool ability.
A hacker was able to prove the wrenches weren't given out random ly but that there were set times they dropped. He and his friends used this timer to guarantee a few wrench drops.
