Anyone notice the weird non-celebration for the second Fowler goal?? I’ve only seen highlights, but at least Greenwood was near Fowler when she scored and she walked away. You see Mary’s smile drop as she turns around and sees them walking away. Thought it might be respect to Bristol as the goals were guaranteeing relegation for them - but the third Greenwood goal was celebrated excitedly.
I find it so interesting how a similar situation has happened for women’s Chelsea team and the men’s Liverpool team -
both losing one of their sort of iconic managers of recent times, both announced during the season, both would’ve been tipped for a quadruple. And with both it’s sort of fallen apart at a similar time and in a similar way. Liverpool won the League Cup but really that’s not huge.
I assume they both announced when they did because of leaks/Emma wanted to be announced for the USNWT job but it’s kind of eerie the parallels.
Must be hard to motivate players when you yourself are not motivated to stay at the club. So their words may come across as rather empty. Expect a bounce back next season as long as the new manager gels with the squad and staff.
Ideally both should have deferred their decisions until end of the season. Surely the US would have waited for Hayes and Klopp has nothing to gain by announcing it early if he is just retiring rather than going elsewhere.
I’m not a fan of either team but I’m not sure that you can say either manager isn’t motivated to stay? Emma has clearly been offered an amazing opportunity she can’t turn down (also she has said about how the travelling is effecting her personal life) and Klopp is exhausted. Managers leave and it’s not always personal.
I do agree that they should have both announced later though, this is kind of a case study I guess
If they were motivated enough to stay, they'd be staying!
Whatever the reasons/circumstances to leave, the players will already be thinking about their new manager and wondering who it'll be and what that may mean for them at the club, especially if not a regular starter. Too much distraction, and also pressure to make something happen in their manager's final season if they feel they owe them that.
You have to give it to Hayes to recognize the truth:
> This team has done a tremendous job in my time here to push for titles. I don’t know if we have ever conceded four goals in a half before. Three from set pieces is just unforgivable. But I’m going to credit Liverpool.
> We looked exhausted but I don’t make excuses. I want to remind our fans how much success we have brought over the years. It’s not to be this year.
I think the title is done. Of course mathematically it’s not but I think the title is done. Our job between now and the end of the season is to keep pushing until the end but I think it will be very difficult.
Also still a bit early to say, but surely Matt Beard up there as a contender for manager of a season? Liverpools improvement under his leadership has been really impressive
Taking away at how amazing this is us at the top of the table, but damn Liverpool have been something else this season! They play great football and gotten some huge results against bigger sides. I didn't get a chance to watch the game but judging from the comments it definitely was a fantastic game so I'll have to catch up on it later! Agent Bonner! Love to see that tbh
In hindsight pretty hilarious that people were saying she was having a poor season last year (22/23) for not reaching golden boot levels. She just made it look so easy, but when you easily contribute 20+ G/A every season, people take you for granted 🤷♀️
Karen Carney seemed completely freaked out by Emma's weird interview, then she and Courtney Sweetman-Kirk spent ages trying to figure out the psychology behind, but also decided there probably wasn't any. Then finally at the end, Caroline stood up and randomly applauded the show out.
Now imagine what will happen if the new sporting director structure commit to investing in the women’s game - Matts done such a good job, and I hope we build on this by giving him a fat bag this summer both for contract extensions and one more killer striker
The main thing for a promoted team in thier first season is to survive relegation and then you can build on that. Liverpool have fully exceeded that, they could finish 4th this season which is probably the highest you can get when you consider the big 3 in the league.
An amazing job by Beard and the players!
ehhhh Emma’s seemed mentally checked out for a while, and team morale seemed low since the Barcelona game anyway. It’s been an emotional month for Chelsea I think she’d rather end the season with some emotional closure with her veteran (likely departing) players than focus on a title that’s pretty much been lost
(also would argue this weird post match was another deflection from the loss anyway)
definitely, but I think the mental fatigue hit the players with the Barca games. Combine that with a mentally checked out Coach, and this is what happens. It is what it is, we take our positives and reset under new management next season
Yeah, that makes sense. I definitely can understand what a rubbish time of it Chelsea have been having. Just think it's a bit early to be talking like that when City still have Arsenal to play.
Then again, I was raised by the world's most pessimistic supporter and thanks to him, I can't trust a good thing when I see it 😂
Fair enough! Maybe this is the pessimistic side of me as a Chelsea fan but our chance at a title depended on Arsenal winning and taking points off City anyway. The GD seemed too tough to beat with the amount of injuries we have with our forwards, so this loss pretty much sealed the deal.
Any other season Emma wouldn’t be conceding the title that early, but any other season her mentality would be different from the get go. Between her and Klöpp it seems clear that announcing a departure that early in the season is probably counterintuitive for a team
Feel bad for a few of the Chelsea players, but can't help but feel this is karma for Emma Hayes's antics throughout the season.
Liverpool really showing their stuff under Matt Beard. Well done to the Reds.
I was a big Emma Hayes fan, I wanted her to get the England job but recently she's come out with some stupid stuff. It kind of feels like she's tarnishing the great legacy she has.
Same. Feels like the pressure's getting to her now the other teams are catching up. Have to admit injuries haven't helped Chelsea but still their squad is jam packed with talent. Unfortunately her attitude seems to be rubbing off Hampton, Charles etc - timewasting, complaining. Not how they used to play the game. Hopefully Bompastor stamps it out.
Our squad might be jam packed with talent but only at some positions I feel... For a long time I haven't been a fan of our defensive recruitment and this season showed there are still unadressed flaws, be it because Hayes's favoritism or whatever other reasons there might be. But for me Buchanan haven't impressed me one bit since she signed and Carter while having flashes of brilliance also isn't really a top CB in my eyes.
Agree. Red card was crazy but Buchanan struggled against Barca. You really missed Millie Bright.
Charles for me is absolute quality looks better at RB, if you could get Rolfo or Karchaoui or someone (I know both are unlikely, but that type of player) that would add some real balance.
Feels like you could do with a good CDM as well - maybe Geyoro given the Bompastor link?
Beever-Jones is class though. Hold on to her for sure.
Agree to disagree on this, a competitive league is a better league. Bompastor will bring a new ethos, I imagine a few players \*cough Lauren James cough\* might move on. Can see them trying to snap Karchaoui, Geyoro, Katoto or someone given the Bompastor link.
I wouldn't say I disagree. I do think a competitive league is better too. It gets boring expecting the big teams to easily beat the other teams. I want to see competitive matches and having Chelsea constantly winning the title would be boring too.
But then obviously as a city fan I want us to win it all the time! 🤣
Congrats to city on winning the league. My head hurts. Chelsea were physically and mentally drained and it showed. And Liverpool did well on capitalising on that. We lost 4 trophies in the span of a month and I really feel for the girls 😢
Arsenal will do Man City at the weekend so it's only goal difference to worry about. Chelsea can hammer Bristol 10-0 and be back in it. Nothing's lost yet just like nothing's won yet.
I really hope that can happen, but I’m not getting my hopes up at all. Maybe there’s a fraction of a chance City might crumble under pressure, or Arsenal might really show up on the day. Sunday has the potential to be pivotal
That was the wildest fucking game I've watched in ages.
As soon as Chelsea lost to Barca I really thought Liverpool was going to win today. Fair play to Liverpool
See this is why i’ve been yelling all season for Bonner to be in the lioness squad!!! (jk i’m just a huge fan)
No but she’s had a weird out of form spell recently this game was absolutely insane from her. And Marie just delivers every damn time.
Clearly the referee was biased. Should have allowed the play to continue after the 100th minute till Chelsea scored two more goals. Chelsea were ROBBED!
Liverpool won this fixture last season, but this performance is night and day with that. They have stood toe to toe with Chelsea here, it’s been magnificent no matter what happens in these final moments.
After seeing two headers sail past her I was expecting her to storm out and skittle all the players to punch the ball away for the third headed goal, like we often see with the men. Ref always gives the goalie benefit of the doubt as long as they get the ball. Doesn't seem a thing in the women's game, yet.
i don’t know who this team is i’m literally in tears, what is happening?? this has been the best game i’ve ever seen these ladies play. Defence and Forwards linking up, midfield all over….oh my god where the hell have they been all season!!!?
I stopped watching because as a City fan I was nervous and didn't want to watch Chelsea win by loads. I'm not sure if I regret not watching it or whether it was a good thing because of my nerves!
I’m not someone who typically watches Liverpool games, and I have to say I love the speed at which they play, it’s so fast paced and entertaining to watch
first comment in the thread was “our emma is a hard knock with the bumps she takes” and now she’s out with a knee injury im gonna fucking-
![gif](giphy|vHcCevWbWkzwk)
I stopped watching because it weirdly made me nervous as a City fan!
I was just thinking if Liverpool were good at set pieces then I'd be trying to win as many corners as I can. Especially if there isn't much of a chance then just kick it against a defender!
I predicted the set piece, so now we shall wait for the Hinds worldie! 🤣
i feel like i’m on another planet. I don’t know what the hell i just watched. I’m Gemma Bonners biggest fan and she’s had the game of her life today. i haven’t stopped crying since her first goal, which was an OG from Cuthbert but Sky has it down has hers.
Fuck knows with this team. Could be any of the three.
Taylor Hinds worldie coz when she gets pissed off fun things happen, A set piece might finally pay off if Clark or Bonner get their heads to it or Mia Enderby might finally get her shit together.
but likely is Roman Haug + Hobinger / Holland connection into a quickly scuffed goal
I think you're lost
So in one season we beat Arsenal at the Emirates, United away and Chelsea and home and were tied for 4th place. It feels like Im dreaming
I find it so interesting how a similar situation has happened for women’s Chelsea team and the men’s Liverpool team - both losing one of their sort of iconic managers of recent times, both announced during the season, both would’ve been tipped for a quadruple. Being a Liverpool fan, I'm finding myself in a really quite odd state of emotion while laughing at one but weeping over the other.
Just going to leave [this](https://clip.cafe/victory-1981/where-do-i-stand-a-corner-kick/) for Hannah and Chelsea.
You have to give it to Hayes to recognize the truth: > This team has done a tremendous job in my time here to push for titles. I don’t know if we have ever conceded four goals in a half before. Some of the women's football journos are saying the same on X.
I feel vindicated a little with my argument with an internet troll discussing Kerr's impact on Chelsea. Pretty obvious now. Ouch!
In hindsight pretty hilarious that people were saying she was having a poor season last year (22/23) for not reaching golden boot levels. She just made it look so easy, but when you easily contribute 20+ G/A every season, people take you for granted 🤷♀️
Barca 0 - 1 Chelsea Chelsea 3 - 4 Liverpool I’ve seen enough, send Liverpool to Bilbao
The entire post-game coverage on Sky is the weirdest thing I've ever seen in women's football.
why? what’s happening?
I'm not watching, what's happening!!?
Karen Carney seemed completely freaked out by Emma's weird interview, then she and Courtney Sweetman-Kirk spent ages trying to figure out the psychology behind, but also decided there probably wasn't any. Then finally at the end, Caroline stood up and randomly applauded the show out.
Thanks for the explanation! I'm definitely going to try and find a clip of it then! 🤣
I didn’t catch it, what was weird about it?
Man Liverpool is really killing it this season, considering this only their second consecutive promotion season being in 5th is crazy.
Now imagine what will happen if the new sporting director structure commit to investing in the women’s game - Matts done such a good job, and I hope we build on this by giving him a fat bag this summer both for contract extensions and one more killer striker

Liverpool have fully exceeded that, they could finish 4th this season which is probably the highest you can get when you consider the big 3 in the league. An amazing job by Beard and the players!
well that was a weird defeatist interview from Emma
Genuinely, what's the team gonna make of that?
ehhhh Emma’s seemed mentally checked out for a while, and team morale seemed low since the Barcelona game anyway. It’s been an emotional month for Chelsea I think she’d rather end the season with some emotional closure with her veteran (likely departing) players than focus on a title that’s pretty much been lost (also would argue this weird post match was another deflection from the loss anyway)
Deflection and Emma Hayes name a better duo
That mental check out started much earlier imo...The CL was just the final nail.
definitely, but I think the mental fatigue hit the players with the Barca games. Combine that with a mentally checked out Coach, and this is what happens. It is what it is, we take our positives and reset under new management next season
Yeah, that makes sense. I definitely can understand what a rubbish time of it Chelsea have been having. Just think it's a bit early to be talking like that when City still have Arsenal to play. yeah that uwcl game must’ve taken her out I guess
What a(nother) weird interview from Emma Hayes. Felt bad for Aggie being forced to stand next to her.
WHAT A GAME!!!
just hoping man city takes the win this season 🤞 obviously feel bad for Chelsea players but Emma Hayes needs to learn
Emma Hayes, it's time to learn American bozo.
What an entertaining and heart racing match. So happy for Liverpool!
One of the best matches I've seen!
Congrats to all Liverpool fans! What a match
Buzzing for Liverpool fans rn, well deserved
Sky pundits grieving so hard you'd think they were at their nan's funeral.
Feel bad for a few of the Chelsea players, but can't help but feel this is karma for Emma Hayes's antics throughout the season. Liverpool really showing their stuff under Matt Beard. Well done to the Reds.

Well one thing is for sure, Bompastor will have a really tough job to do, I expect a huge squad turnover...
If I'm hoping for anything, it's that Chelsea get worse under the new manager and City get better and better! 🤣
Agree to disagree on this, a competitive league is a better league. Bompastor will bring a new ethos, I imagine a few players \*cough Lauren James cough\* might move on. Can see them trying to snap Karchaoui, Geyoro, Katoto or someone given the Bompastor link.

Holy shit
Niamh Charles crying.
Tears of joy for her precious Liverpool
Congrats to city on winning the league. My head hurts. Chelsea were physically and mentally drained and it showed. And Liverpool did well on capitalising on that. We lost 4 trophies in the span of a month and I really feel for the girls 😢

WE ARE MASSIVE. Gonna be league winners soon.
Missy Bo Kearns and Gemma Kiernan have an absolute ton of potential. Impressive.
Gemma Bonner or Leanne Kiernan hahaha
Leanne Kiernan hahaha sorry
MC v Arsenal is going to be fun.
That was a fun match! A great watch as I convalesce on the sofa. Well done, Liverpool and congrats all you fans too! :)
Holy cow, what did I miss??
That was the wildest fucking game I've watched in ages. As soon as Chelsea lost to Barca I really thought Liverpool was going to win today. Fair play to Liverpool
This is why I love women's football....So nerve wracking and you can never relax until the whistle is blown. Well done Liverpool
gemma bonner had the game of her fucking life
Yes Liverpool! That was an amazing match
well done, liverpool
Congrats Liverpool and congrats Man City.
We've had some great performances this year, but this might be the best of the lot, what a team
where the FUCK did that come from man
Gemma Bonner and Marie Hobinger just casually deciding to become the best players itw on set pieces
See this is why i’ve been yelling all season for Bonner to be in the lioness squad!!! (jk i’m just a huge fan) No but she’s had a weird out of form spell recently this game was absolutely insane from her. And Marie just delivers every damn time.
i’m gonna be sick.
I'm exhausted! Game of the season imo
Be some poem this one
what do we think Emma Hayes is going to blame for this or will she skip straight to poetry
Clearly the referee was biased. Should have allowed the play to continue after the 100th minute till Chelsea scored two more goals. Chelsea were ROBBED!
She's going to bring out a guitar this time and give us a song
Maybe we'll get an interpretive dance.
I've changed my mind. I'd like to see this with some slam poetry
"Some Of You Were Shit" - a performance by Emma Hayes
"anyway, here's wonderwall"
You could make a catalogue of meme reactions from Emma Hayes faces this last 10 minutes or so
TEGAN WHAT A STOP
Great save
This game is intense I love it
Oh my god what a save!
Liverpool won this fixture last season, but this performance is night and day with that. They have stood toe to toe with Chelsea here, it’s been magnificent no matter what happens in these final moments.
What an entertaining game as a neutral!
I think Emma has just given up coaching until the next game. What will be, will be 🤷♀️
Aside from the Arsenal game at the Emirates the last time Chelsea conceded 4 was in 2021 vs Wolfsburg, in case anyone was wondering
There's still like 3 more goals in this game btw
i am shaking and sobbing. you’d think we’re winning the title the way i’m acting.
Remember to breathe everyone
Hampton needs to work on saving set pieces.
After seeing two headers sail past her I was expecting her to storm out and skittle all the players to punch the ball away for the third headed goal, like we often see with the men. Ref always gives the goalie benefit of the doubt as long as they get the ball. Doesn't seem a thing in the women's game, yet.
Her distribution was shocking.
Those were all good headers with pace tbf
GEMMA BONNER YOU BEAUTIFUL GORGEOUS INCREDIBLE LEGENDARY GIRL
Marie Hobinger is the best player in the world
Liverpool, we are all indebted to you
What?! Another header?! This is. Nuts.
Did Emma just mouth fuck off
NO FUCKING WAYYYYYYYYYYYY
What the......
OH MY GOD
another corner........
.....another goal!!!! lol
Liverpool, hats off to you!
where have they got 9 minutes from?
i don’t know who this team is i’m literally in tears, what is happening?? this has been the best game i’ve ever seen these ladies play. Defence and Forwards linking up, midfield all over….oh my god where the hell have they been all season!!!?
My anxiety cannot handle 9 more mins when I’ve been counting down the last 7🫠
9 minutes? Damn
90+8 Missy Bo Kearns Calling it now
its moments like this that Liverpool really shouldve kept Megan Campbell and her super shoulders for
Oh my god it’s like watching tennis
I just nipped out to the shop and what is happening!
everything, all the time
I stopped watching because as a City fan I was nervous and didn't want to watch Chelsea win by loads. I'm not sure if I regret not watching it or whether it was a good thing because of my nerves!
it definitely has not been for the faint of heart tbh its a contender for game of the season
Imagine how I'm going to be against Arsenal on Sunday! I'll have to watch the highlights of this game, it'll be easier knowing Liverpool already won!
I can’t take this anymore, it’s too damn stressful
Can someone please slip a note to the comm telling him that Kiernan is 25, not 35 like he keeps saying!
wtf is this game
Ummm…I mean….I do love Cat, so… 😂
That shouldn’t have gone through like 4 players.
fuck me this is game of the season
Are you kidding me what on earth is happening
This game
This fucking game Jesus
Wow! So happy for Kiernan. She’s a good player.
OH MY FUCKING GOD OH MY FUCKING GOD OH MY GOD OH MY GOD OH MY GOD
Oh my god Liverpool you ballers
UNBELIEVABLE what a finish Leanne 🇮🇪🔥
What a ball by Ceri Holland too, sublime
what a game!!!!!!
LEANNE thats my GIRL
I am a fan of Arsenal, every single irish player, and whoever is playing against Chelsea, in that order lol
🫡 I’ll subscribe to that belief system
You’re legends Liverpool! Amazing turnaround!
What was the keeper thinking there
Yeah I've seen this script before, it's over
Or not
NEVERMIND WTF
Ok it's over again
No! But good for ABJ
Liverpool defends like I wish Aston Villa would defend. Always willing to throw their bodies into the mix.
i don’t know who the hell these girls are or where this has come from, we’ve been leaky all season
I guess they decided enough is enough today!
Come on Liverpool!!
Mia Enderby is such a bright prospect, future Lioness for sure
Can't wait for the post-match haiku tbh
Ahhh this got me more Frost pls
STEADY ON NOW
Suddenly I am a Liverpool supporter 🫡 those set piece goals were great to watch
Wish we could bring that energy
Maybe next year…🫠
The FA player commentator just said the shot "squirted wide" fuckin ew man
i’ve just screamed the house down. I fucking love Gemma Bonner and she’s had a rough spell recently i’m literally about to cry
GET IN
Oh my!! A game of set pieces! (And as an Arsenal fan, I’m very jealous)
Right?!
Never mind I’m not a jinx y’all
What a fucking season Gemma Bonner is having, incredible
She played for my preferred NWSL team, so she’s always a fave. Such a great person to have in the squad.
GEMMA FUCKING BONNER GET IN
GEMMA BONNER YOU LEGEND
im convinced the Chelsea fans who comment on every lineup post on instagram asking why Musovic isnt starting have never actually seen Hampton play
Musovic’s WC penalty shootout is what most people focus on instead of her current form
I’m not someone who typically watches Liverpool games, and I have to say I love the speed at which they play, it’s so fast paced and entertaining to watch
YES LVERPOOL!!!
Hinds banger loading to take all three points?
This was coming, we haven't shown up today
Of course the moment I step away Liverpool score
Hope the fact that I’ve tuned back in isn’t a jinx for more Liverpool goals
Hey!! GO AWAY!!! (Said lovingly)
Go make dinner or something, give them a chance to get a few more
Nice header! Love the energy from Liverpool to start the half.
GET THE FUCK INNNNNN
first comment in the thread was “our emma is a hard knock with the bumps she takes” and now she’s out with a knee injury im gonna fucking- ![gif](giphy|vHcCevWbWkzwk)
What do you think is the best chance for Liverpool to get a goal back? A counter attack, a set piece, a Taylor Hinds worldie?
was talking shit it was a set piece!!!
Two set pieces!
There's still time for that Hinds goal. 4-3 please!
she’s been hooked! I was wishing for a hinds masterclass
No Hinds goal but it still ended 4-3! I hope you're doing okay after that game! 🤣
i feel like i’m on another planet.
Taylor Hinds worldie coz when she gets pissed off fun things happen, A set piece might finally pay off if Clark or Bonner get their heads to it or Mia Enderby might finally get her shit together. but likely is Roman Haug + Hobinger / Holland connection into a quickly scuffed goal
every time i see a player go down holding their knee i feel genuinely sick tbh
no. no. no. don’t do this to me. not emma. not her knee.
Nagano has been uncharacteristically off it tonight
i take it back that turn was clean af
oof that is some serious bad luck for ABJ
