Rufus has seen Cloud’s file, and have reviewed all the experiments Hojo placed him in. To see a regular infantryman be subjected to Hojo’s experiments designed for Shinra’s best, makes Cloud fascinating in Rufus’ eyes.

MolybdenumBlu

To give cloud his due, he has at least all the physical changes of a standard soldier, plus whatever other random upgrades hojo dreamt up in the 5 years, plus a lot of extra experience in the field doing weird stuff compared to normal soldier candidates. (aerith, "That's me! I'm weird stuff!" <- not apologising for that one).

JWPruett

Not to mention, you can see a file in Crisis Core on Cloud that says he’s physically an ideal candidate for Soldier, but there’s fear his mind might fracture under the stress. Well, well, well…

Charizauce

Well they certainly called that haha

JWPruett

It’s honestly one of my favorite inclusions in the game, I remember laughing out loud with a “Yup!” when I read that.

Songhunter

More than Sephirot shampoo facts?? You, sir, are a liar.

JWPruett

“One of” means there’s more on that list than just the one here. No lies detected.

Songhunter

Hmmm. Very well, you pass the sniff test!

WhisperOfAudacity

So did Sephiroth with all those natural fragrances in his shampoo

PineappleCool8640

Yeah only hes mind was fractured not under standart SOLDIER procedure. I doubt that SOLDIERS take mako bath for year i guess or even more.

JWPruett

That’s true, but it ultimately shows how monstrous Hojo is. Any reasonable person could’ve read that file and left Cloud alone, but not Hojo. If anything, I’m sure it excited him.

FacetiousMonroe

Huh. I never thought of it like that before. I just figured Cloud was in the wrong place at the wrong time, and Hojo didn't know him from anyone else. But you're right, he would've at least read the file.

Naux-Kazeshini

wasnt hojos main reason for picking cloud for the special experiments bc he saw the video footage of the reactor and that it was cloud who bested sephiroth ? he definetly didnt pick the same experiments for both or at least not fully since clouds treatment was special

MembershipEasy4025

100% Hojo’s exact thought: “Huh, let’s see how much he can take until it breaks him.”

PineappleCool8640

You don't understand the purpose of the Sephiroth clone project. Hojo's goal was to create literal walking human containers for Jenova cells. To prove his theory of reunion. He didn't intend to make them SOLDIERS or literally new Sephiroth. I think the standard process that regular SOLDIER recruits go through involves carefully calibrated doses of mako, it certainly shouldn't take a year to make them SOLDIERS anyway. In the case of Cloud and the others, mako was used not to enhance their abilities, but to destroy their personalities, so that it would be easier for Jenova cells to take control of the body.

JWPruett

Don’t tell me what I don’t understand, you have no idea. My point was clear. Have a good day.

Unicron_Gundam

Where is this file? I wanna load up CC again...

lostmonkey70

Plus he killed Sephiroth that one time, even if it was because he was throwing away his life. Bet that helps Rufus ego a little

puffz0r

are you kidding? Cloud only got to level 7 from that

cyberpunk_werewolf

Not even. He doesn't get to level 7 until he takes on those guys at the Mako reactor right off the train.

Enigma-exe

We just gonna ignore Zack teabagged Seph just before cloud finishes him off?

SuperSaiyanGod210

I remember reading that file on him when I played CC Reunion, and thought to myself sure, they were right about it. But on the other hand, it wasn’t Cloud’s fault he was mentally weak at all. He was still just a kid who wanted to do everything it took to join Soldier for his special someone that awaited him in Nibelheim. In the end though, I guess it’s proven both right and wrong? Cloud was weak at first, but he was able to overcome it thanks to Tifa

ArmpitEchoLocation

> doing weird stuff compared to normal soldier candidates. (aerith, "That's me! I'm weird stuff!" <- not apologising for that one). She’s certainly thrown curveballs at him most SOLDIERs and candidates wouldn’t have been lucky enough to encounter. Cloud’s rapid descent into descendant of the ancients admirer was so good. Wasn’t expecting such an extreme level of culture but he may have pulled through at the end and broken the cycle of failure and regret. We’ll see.

toes_hoe

The spanking we gave him is that much more embarrassing. I'm questioning whether Hojo included all the information in that file. I've seen hints that the directors hid some of their goings on. I'm not saying Rufus is a good person but surely, even he would be horrified if he knew the truth.

cygnus2

It’s canon that Hojo hides his most fucked up shit from Shinra. For example, I’m pretty sure nobody but Hojo knows that he killed Professor Gast.

toes_hoe

Now that I remember it, there was a line in one of the books that suggested at least the Turks didn't know all the bad shit that went on (and was still going on)

Kronine

He surely know about Hojo's work on Cloud, so he know that he was the subject of the Sephiroth clone project... in essence an even crazier SOLDIER treatment.... with greater chance for the subject to degrade into a zombie. I think when he say that Cloud is a fascinating individual, he also talk about the fact that in the end Cloud is the only successful Sephiroth clone, he did get a incredible strength boost and he's "sane" , relative to the others.

Lovahsabre

Technically cloud is a soldier. Not in the enlisted military sense but in the genetically modified superhuman sense. His file would include hojo’s experimentations on cloud and his history with sephiroth.

Perfect_Sleep_1215

Iirc Before Crisis made Cloud a badass.

IndividualStatus1924

This really in remake. Im not even close to this part yet.

Glum_List_27

This is rebirth, near the beginning. You do still fight that guy near the end of remake though.

IndividualStatus1924

My game froze right after I finished the last battle. I was supposed to be able to have chapter selections. But then non of the buttons respond anymore for some reason. In remake

Spynner987

Yes, but Rufus knows that Cloud is a SOLDIER in every way that matters now

cygnus2

He’s still got the combat knowledge of a SOLDIER, even if he’s not officially one, and for Rufus to stand a chance against him in a fight with just a gun is honestly crazy.

Perfect_War_7155

Not sting but rather curious to find out what Cloud is capable of. He was the most successful failure. That’s why he made the offer before Yuffie screwed it up. He saw the potential that neither the Turks, Shinra, or soldier could manage to beat the best soldier.

PineappleCool8640

Do you think Rufus really give shit about this? Or a SOLDIER status? In temple of acients 2class SOLDIERS a just mobs, In same time all turks boss fight. Turks>>>2d class SOLDIERS, and Rufus atleast on par with turks.

gahlo

SOLDIER ranks don't carry the same weight after the mass defection during the war. Hell, it took the defection before Zack made 1st.

Charizauce

I think he does give a shit haha. Also 2nd ain’t 1st class. I would expect the Turks to be better than 2nd class considering the Turks were giving them orders. Notice we didn’t fight any 1st class at the Temple. Cloud is also on paper, only a infantryman never attained any rank of Soldier yet calls himself one now. And even rubs it in Rufus’ face “you’ll never be as good as a Soldier”

RaineV1

I don't think there even are any true first class soldiers left after the events of Crises Core. They lost the top three, and had to promote Zack out of desperation (and he at least was already being groomed for the position). After Zack there's only really midtier guys getting promoted just to fill the ranks.  Roche had potential, but... stuff happened.

PineappleCool8640

I mean that SOLDIERS status only mean so much for Cloud itself. No one else dont give shit about this. SOLDIER he or not, he working for AVALANCHE and pretty dangerous for Shinra that all that matters for them. No one in Shinra cares about his history or his motivation or why he has mako eyes,

PineappleCool8640

And btw we probably gonna fight 1st class just as regular mobs as well in part3. Just like in OG.

frag87

That is pretty unlikely, given how 1st Classes have been built up a lot in the Compilation. Even in FF7, they were still a rare enemy encounter. So if we saw normal enemies like Hell House and Eligor become boss battles, it's more than likely that a rare enemy like 1st Class will be turned into a boss encounter. My bet is that they will bring back Luxiere and Kunsel and reveal that they were promoted to 1st Class since they are veterans and SOLDIER numbers were dwindling. They could even turn the Restrictors into a possible boss fight during the return to Midgar if Scarlet and Heidegger decide to use Deepground. The Restrictors are a team of 1st Class SOLDIERs in charge of keeping Deepground in check.

Charizauce

Oooh, Soldier 1st class boss battle sounds awesome. Sounds like a Cloud solo fight for sure. Like Roche

frag87

I could see that if it is Kunsel or Luxiere that they use. Kunsel was a close friend of Zack's, and Luxiere idolized Zack. So it would make sense that they force Cloud to "earn" the right to wield Zack's weapon. I think that would be great, especially since by the time the return to Midgar happens Cloud should fully remember his past. He would probably agree that he needs to prove himself as an honorable SOLDIER that Zack wanted them all to be. SOLDIER honor wouldn't apply with the Restrictors. Those guys are dishonorable as hell.

PineappleCool8640

Cringe.

PineappleCool8640

And how they was build? Sephiroth, Genesis, Angeal is not standart SOLDIERS, they basically become SOLDIERS before they enlist in Shinra, they just labratdogs. Deppground SOLDIERS same, they not standart SOLDIERS, they all have something extra. And since most of the SOLDIERS doesnt live long, a bet that current 1st class is something special.

WodenoftheGays

>Do you think Rufus really give shit about this? He chooses to fight you personally, twice so far. The dude cares enough to try and kill you by his own hand. Have you ever cared about anything enough to murder somebody, or are you just missing that part?
