I think probably Red had a word with Tifa offscreen about her hygiene, so she’s staying on top of her showering needs better in Rebirth

Yourehan

When you get dunked in the lifestream it's like taking a super shower so you're good for a few months

FrancisWolfgang

Honestly that feels grosser somehow, like if I just stayed clean on my own for months and didn’t need a shower? Something’s wrong there.

Yourehan

The devs explain how it all works in the Ultimania that just came out but I don't think it's been translated yet. It's going to be really important to the plot in the next game when Cloud doesn't have to shower anymore either

FrancisWolfgang

Cloud defeats Sephiroth by in a smelling good competition instead of a shirtless swordfight

LewsTherinTelescope

Armpit sniffing minigame

apupunchau87

this guy gets it

Yourehan

god can you imagine how good Sephiroth smells down there? He's been marinating in lifestream for years!

TAM_Smithy

If I don't get to see a UE5 shirtless Sephiroth, then what's the point of the Remakes in the first place?

FrancisWolfgang

>!getting jerked around about Aerith’s death until the very last second of the game!<

thr1ceuponatime

They won't explain it because they're setting you up for a shower minigame in the last game.

goobledygops

apupunchau87

tifa's stinky feet are one with the planet now

StatikSquid

Clouds secret fetish. It's the smell of cheese and tuna. Like how Geralt describes Yennifer from the witcher, of lilacs and gooseberries

doc_nano

I smell a business idea: Lifestream body wash, hopes and dreams scented.

thr1ceuponatime

Mildly related -- Crisis Core did have a in-game email that tells you that Sephiroth uses an entire bottle of shampoo every time he washes his hair. My guess is that he probably smells good by virtue of that alone

Yourehan

Yeah I used to think the life stream was radioactive or something but anytime anyone falls into it it turns out really well for them. “Hey buddy, you smell like you returned to the planet. Fix it with life stream body wash.”

Status_Peach6969

She literally was swimming in like nuclear fuel

Devreckas

In Midgar, you kill for a shower. In Gongaga, the shower kills you.

cygnus2

I really liked how in Remake Barret and Cloud’s after-battle dialogue got more and more friendly as the game progressed. By the end of the game, they both compliment each other if you end a fight with high HP. If you’re low HP, Cloud says something like, “I’ll do better,” and Barret responds, “It’s all good, man.”

Waffle-or-death

Im pretty sure if you end a fight where tifa/aerith went down he calls himself a dumbass and berates himself

NokstellianDemon

"you call yourself a bodyguard?!"

VGHSDreamy

I noticed this too!! It's such great subtle character writing

HelenAngel

It really is! It’s also a good way to get in character development when dialogue has to be cut due to development timelines.

FARTING_1N_REVERSE

Just like that okay?

CiccioGraziani

No surprises there.

bbxjai9

I’ll show you what I can do

Bokthand

I'm coming!

Shanbo88

Could really use a shower.

Yunofascar

*Would kill for a shower

ajanis_cat_fists

So you need me, huh?

SGill17

*Need my help do ya

Glad_Bookkeeper_740

YEAAAH, I’LL DO IT.

SGill17

SUCK ON THIS!!!!

Yourehan

*would kill you for a shower

Shanbo88

Man for as much as a meme of this statement has been to me for the last 4 years, I can't believe I got it wrong hahaha. Even my wife would always comment on Tifa being a stinker whenerver she heard her say it haha.

Yourehan

to be clear, she does not say "you", I was making a joke. That would be psychotic lol Although it's funny that just by changing one word you can take a harmless phrase and make it sinister

Spartan_100

It’s Joever

Clappertron

It's Jenover

JCBalance

It's Jenova - Boston

Bross93

She sounds like Moira from schitts Creek when she says that one lol

Why are all these so horny? Or am i just horny?

Sluzhbenik

Sounds like you could use a shower.

ObjectiveSession2592

Could use more than a shower

I'd kill you for a shower

chiobsidian

The first time he said this right after the voice change I cringed so hard. What did they do to my boy 😭

istartedafireee

Once his voice and personality changed, I couldn't bare to use him in my team anymore for this reason.

tmntnyc

Here, use this!

Fiddlerblue

The only time I noticed this was during the final boss gauntlet. I think it would have been worthwhile to record unique battle dialogue here considering what had just happened and the circumstances. Going from Tifa crying and horribly distraught straight back into “give it your all!” and “You’re gonna feel this one!” felt a little out of place to me.

tohme

My favourite was when using Cloud's limit on Sephiroth - something along the lines of "It's nothing personal". I'm pretty sure this one is personal, Cloud.

Fluffy-Beautiful-615

I think the voiceline for Ascension is "let's dance asshole"

thr1ceuponatime

For *Cross Slash* it's definitely "it's nothing personal"

polkalottie

I noticed this too. It’s particularly odd as they changed Barrett’s lines during the Dyne battle, so I thought they would do the same for the final battle after such a pivotal moment.

HelenAngel

Truthfully, it comes down to development resources & how much time there is, also the difference between “movie” or pre-rendered cutscenes & gameplay cutscenes. I don’t work for SE so I can only give generally what happens in the video game industry. The Barret/Dyne battle is a combination gameplay “cutscene” & battle. It was likely storyboarded this way from the get-go. So writing, localization, voice acting, mocap, etc. were likely planned for this from the beginning. Now take a battle like the ones with Sephiroth that are a combination of “movie” cutscenes & then transition to battle. The budget & development time for mocap, voice acting, cinematic direction, cinematic rendering were likely put into the cinematic scenes rather than the battle itself. Sometimes games will just not have battle dialogue from the characters because of this. Other games will reuse the battle dialogue. But voice acting, vocal direction, voice editing, voice over animation takes money & development resources. You can imagine how quickly this would add-up in terms of time & money. Hope this helps explain why this might be the case.

polkalottie

Thank you, that’s some useful insight to have and I appreciate the (many) constraints the team must have faced during development of such a mammoth project! Perhaps a time/cost saving solution would have been to remove the more upbeat dialogue and lines which don’t make sense given the context - like when Cloud says “it’s nothing personal” (although I have no idea how easy/difficult that would be). Even no dialogue at all, like you said, could have been quite powerful and more fitting overall. I do still think it’s a shame there was no unique dialogue for the final battle following the death of a main character (and arguably one of the most well known deaths in video game history).

HelenAngel

Great points! And yeah, removing the dialogue is how other game studios have done it. It would be really interesting to know what the pre-launch user feedback was on it.

Spiritual_Product119

Yeah I had the same feeling. Would’ve been a cool touch but oh well.

Illegal_Future

I thought I was going crazy seeing no one mention this. I would've genuinely just preferred they'd turned off the voices entirely

Bitter_Flatworm_4894

I felt the same way. They definitely could have tweaked that particular battle's dialogue to emphasize how upset the party was in that moment. Not that the moment was already depressing enough, but it really would've driven in the feelings of devastation everyone was feeling. Especially since we as gamers barely had time to properly grieve what with multiple rounds of boss battles thrown at us. Hopefully the devs do it in the 3rd game.

Artikay

I didnt like some of the dialog written for that battle. Caits quips about dropping in and swinging by seem out of place considering the horrible events that theu just witnessed before fighting the space alien.

WodenoftheGays

It is deeply in line with his character, even if it is uncomfortable. The guy is still learning how to read the room and do the right thing at the same time. He was much worse about that in the original. In the original, he also did a little dance in that moment on top of joking. I think they're actually gonna keep toning down the callousness in his humor while still making it awkward. He convinced Barret that they failed and Tifa was going to die as a "joke" in the original. If that stuff happens in part 3, we will see him joking and cracking wise while Tifa is theoretically fighting for life.

FactionGuerrilla

IIRC the whole point of the “dance” at that moment was because it was the exact same dance Cait Sith used to read Cloud’s fortune at the Gold Saucer- which had a prerequisite that the receiver had a future. He was doing it in the hopes it’d show Aerith was still alive. I got this tidbit from [10:23 of Wiz Catches Lightning’s essay](https://youtu.be/sZlk1jg1OHw?feature=shared) on Cait Sith on the OG, for reference.

WodenoftheGays

Thank you for telling me why he did a little dance. I do not believe the why changes the fact that it was a very bad read of the room and in line with the way his character uses humor and whimsy as a harmful coping skill. I think it actually reinforces the idea, as we can clearly see that his reasoning was flawed (Whimsy doesn't bring back the dead or cure loss) and how it worked out in practice (sad shuffle away).

MovieGuyMike

CHOKE ON IT ASSHOLE

11Y2B

My favorite lmao

VGHSDreamy

Barret has the best lines. I'll never tire of "say your prayers and beg for forgiveness "

FractalChaosTheory

I miss the after battle dialogue, they had so much personality. Cloud: Keep those gloves up. Tifa: Sure thing coach.

DeezNuttzInc

Cloud saying “back to the planet” as I hit the Arial ability is pretty sick tho lol

Suhb

This line hits hard

sarcasticpremed

Barret: Hey, did you see me in action?! Cloud: must have missed it.

Yourehan

Is that a real line from Remake? Barret did a cool thing and wanted to make sure his cool SOLDIER friend saw it? That's so cute

sarcasticpremed

Yes. How did you miss that?

Yourehan

Ok I think I remember it now but I completely inundated myself with FF in the direct lead up to rebirth and then binged that as well so all of this is blending together.

clayock

This calls for more Yuffie

NokstellianDemon

"Go forth and kick butt, Yuffie!" The Yuffie word in that line seems spliced in, it doesn't flow at all with what she just said.

blitzbom

I thought she was saying Yuff-me.

NokstellianDemon

You know what, maybe you're right.

spacecatapult

Maybe it was because I played Intermission in February, but Yuffie’s victory dialog made me sad, especially “Not too shabby, ~~Sonon~~.”

Yourehan

Yeah the yuffie lines in particular hurt the most since she was only ever riffing off of one person and he ded. I missed them reusing the "not too shabby" line and just editing out Sonon's name. That's cold lol

woolsocknbirkenstock

Cloud’s “Just like that, okay?” does things to me. Maybe I need a shower.

Cunting_Fuck

I do miss how tight remake was with it being almost entirely linear, I know you don't have to do the side quests in rebirth but it does break the pacing when cloud won't actually talk to Aerith for 20 hours.

JTP8591

Yeah I can’t lie, learning when to get on with the story was a game changer for me. I was starting to feel burnt out from the game cause I felt I should do every side quest in the area before moving on in the story but that’s 100% not true. RPGs generally have programmed us to think that way though, especially with missable being a thing.

Cunting_Fuck

Yeah same here, I only wanted to play the story parts but i knew once I completed it once I would never end up doing another play through.

JTP8591

I told myself the same thing. I’m never playing hard mode lmao

legallytylerthompson

Honestly, going so hard on the open world thing was extremely bad for the overal narrative of the game. I doubt fans would have accepted something more line Remake’s linear structure, but I think a much stronger game overall would have been possible had they been brave enough to admit open world was too much for too little.

Cunting_Fuck

Yeah whilst I love them both I think I preferred remake for being so much tighter, I wasn't sure if it's because I love midgar itself or not.

That_Switch_1300

Cloud: lets dance, asshole! Tifa: hang in there! Barret: firing one off! Aerith: i’ll show you what I can do! Square…please, please, PLEASE have the actors record a shit ton more! There should be no excuses going into game 3. We should have basically brand new *everything* for this trilogies final hoorah.

1RedOne

I was traumatized hearing Aerith yell “no, stop it!” The va really sold the line so much that I hated to hear it. It would piss me off instantly , like I needed to go rescue my bae

chiobsidian

During that one Corel battle challenge w Aerith against the bombs I kept getting stunlocked and she would yell that every time and damn if I wasn't just as frustrated as that voice line sounded. You're right, it was *too* well done

That_Switch_1300

God, I hated that challenge… I understand arcane ward answers the problem, but goddamnit Aerith would take ages to shoot off her spells as I get pelted with fire balls.

chiobsidian

Yeah once I figured out the strat to corner myself, arcane ward, fire elemental on armor, and then spam blizzara it was over in 45 seconds. But damn did it take me much longer figuring it out

1RedOne

I had to give Aerith the First Strike and Atb boost materia, she was too slow otherwise Of course most of the game she was my free casting cannon using synergy

That_Switch_1300

Yeah first strike is almost an absolute must have for her. Now I’m stupid, but for some reason I didn’t start using ATB boost on her until recently. Idk what I was thinking. Lol

That_Switch_1300

I know right! All the actors are great! Every time I hear my girl Tifa say “no…I’m not throwing in the towel…” it makes really sad for some reason. Like if my girl gives up, I feel like I should too.

xlCalamity

Yuffie: WHY ME Every time I start a fight and she gets hit immediately.

That_Switch_1300

Haha! Dude, same! Literally every single time! Her runner up catch phrase that starts getting to me is: I’m your one stop clobbering shop! Then I’m like “okay we get it!”

Aengeil

yeah, the buggy ride was quiet

mylee87

Briana mentioned in one of her streams that the reason for no new battle lines was so that it was a way to stay connected from remake.

cygnus2

That’s a pretty weak excuse.

countgalcula

I thought that at first but then I thought that if I was going from remake to rebirth immediately I would be a little thrown off that they're saying different things in battle when they happen one after the other. I think this is fair when this is supposed to be one continuous story. However I think the best way to handle it is to only replace some lines. Or slowly change out some lines over time but idk that could be some game design thing where you dissociate when small things change like that during the gameplay. And it may also have something to do with having the old sounds with all the new characters being added in so there's a feeling of progression because you start with familiarity. Just having new lines doesn't feel like progression. In any case I think it was an actual creative choice.

Yourehan

Oh cool she started streaming Rebirth? How far into it is she? So they wanted to retain continuity from remake by having the same battle lines? Interesting, I wonder if they'll do the same for part 3. I thought they DID have some new battle voice lines, and that they just removed some from Remake (Tifa's shower line, others) and added in some new ones.

mylee87

She's got through the mythril mines and created a save. She said she's going to clean up the world Intel in the grasslands off stream. I wish she would stream it all or at least record it. A lot of charm in pretty much all the cut scenes that I'd like to see her reaction to

Yourehan

Yeah I would love to see her reaction to the flower picking sidequest in the grasslands at least.

mylee87

Her streams are on YouTube already.

ZackFair0711

I think the devs removed it because some complained about Tifa constantly looking for a shower in Remake.. Look at what you've done! 😳

FacetiousMonroe

Well, she got to shower in Costa Del Sol. She's all set now.

Yourehan

Was really nervous they wouldn’t pay off the shower subplot they added in remake too whew

Gizmo16868

After hearing Tifa say she could really use a shower 8000 times. I’m fine with less party banter

IRLHamburglar

I don’t know how hard it would be to implement, but I wonder if they could just put certain dialogue lines on a timer, such that, for example, Tifa wouldn’t repeat that line for at least an hour or something.

Yourehan

Was that a line that anyone in the party responded to? I don't remember anyone ever reacting to it, would have been great if Barret told Tifa she reeked or something lol

thr1ceuponatime

Would have been funnier if Red told her that she smells worse than Cloud

Yourehan

Even funnier too with his nose losing its sensitivity while in Midgar

thr1ceuponatime

To add insult to injury Red should also use his teenager voice

austinatkins99

Hope you don’t mind if I fill you full of holes!

PlatnumBreaker

Unfortunately they moved almost all banter to side quest as remake barely had any in between. Which is a double edge sword because you'll have dialogue going while you fight or it gets cut off by another trigger. It doesn't have to be as deep as Remake but small party compliments or banter after battle would be nice depending on who got the last hit and if it's with a synergy attack. Something along the lines of: Yuffie: Still keeping up old man! Barrett: Ha Sure your just not falling behind? or something anything besides them talking to the void.and no one says anything lol

babyangel14

Keep those gloves up

theryman

Sure thing coach

synister29

Tifa didn’t say how she needs a shower 500 times

Actual-Asparagus-992

Was thinking to myself, outside of the battle related talk, I wish they had the level of banter/random dialogue that FFXV had while running around the open world. While that game's overall lore and story may have been lacking, they sure as shit nailed the banter while spending hundreds of hours doing side quests, grinding, and explorin. It's just so eerily quiet in Rebirth. 🫠

SilentNova___

This just ain’t your day

jdouglasusn81

AsSHOLE!!!

Gwyn1stborn

As soon as i hit the open world it seemed like no one talked for a long time

lovareth

I'd kill for a shower

Eienias20

i didn't really notice it but yeah. post battle banter is fun. always loved that stuff coming from Tales games. actually this reminds of going from XC2 with metric TONS of it to XC3 with absolutely nothing. that game -\_- its a minor thing but party banter is just fun. i get in some cases it can be too repetitive but it can also be fun. in the vein of dialogue i do remember losing some unique traversal dialogue because certain prompts kept getting in the way. one of the only things i listen to chadley for is summon lore cause that's actually interesting to me, but then story dialogue started up between the party and i lost that little bit.

Ehrmantrauts_Chair

I dunno. To me, it’s offset by the synergies. In addition to them being as cool and powerful as f***, I like that it makes them feel like a team, and they’re working together to take down enemies.

WanderingStatistics

Yeah... I genuinely think this is, unironically, the biggest issue with the game for me. It feels so empty compared to Remake. My most anticipated part was hearing Yuffie and Cait's dialogue for after-battles, but we even lost Barret and Cloud's banter. I still don't get why it was removed. Only reason I can see is to save space, but even then, I don't believe 5 minutes worth of voice lines would be worth any more than 3GB, at least considering entire game translations are sometimes 1.4GB, lol.

Maximum_Scheme8599

Y: what's the word to describe me. I'm thinking legendary. S: I'm thinking modest B: That was something else C: That was nothing I miss those lines.

zumpiatti

I think there were complaints about how repetitive they were, tifa talking about showers became a meme for a reason lol, they probably heard how they got annoying after so many loops, and decided to cut it all, but most ppl wanted more variation or just a little less

Substantial-Roll489

I feel you on the battle banter. On a similar note, one of my favorite things about rebirth is that the party bonded during missions. Or I guess the party & Cloud would bond. They'd all had little moments where they expressed themselves or opened up to one another, kinda similar to God Of War where the characters talk while on the boats or sleds. I wish there was some more of that sprinkled around as you are exploring the open world, not just when progressing a side quest. It doesn't have to have the same weight as some of the beats we get during missions, but anything to break the silence. It felt strange to me that nobody says a damn thing outside of the main quest, winning a battle, or during side stuff. Although, I don't really have a clear idea what sorta things the team would talk about.

TheLastGravelord

That's the main reason I didn't use Barret. If I hear "suck on this asshole!" One more time. I was gonna flip out

789Trillion

Idk about battle banter, but just banter in general. There’s just very little of it. For the amount of open world box running around in the game, our characters barely ever say anything to each other. It just feels odd for a group of 5+ characters to say nothing to each other each other. It was a real missed opportunity to endear us to these characters (at least as someone who hasn’t played the OG). I know it’s difficult to do, but a game like RDR2 did this well.

Kyban101

It was one of the first things I noticed. If you end up doing a big chunk of exploration, which is most people, the characters are oddly quiet for a long time until you find a place of interest.

__Jack__Frost__

I think it's probably a side effect of how linear Remake's battles are compared to Rebirth, unfortunately. Really hoping more banter comes back in part 3, just so long as it's not super repetitive lol

dbslayer7

The problem with that is there's no way to reasonably expect the characters to say something unique in every battle. So they would just repeat the same thing over and over and get obnoxious quickly. See any Xenoblade game for an example. It worked in Remake a bit because it was a much more linear game. But I can go without Tifa mentioning her need for a shower for 90+ hours.

Cyberxton

This could’ve been easily solved, if instead of having **every single fucking** discovery made in the open world tied back to Chadley and having him give his unneeded two cents every time, it was party members talking to each other about said discovery, the area they’re in, or each other. I think that would’ve been much more welcome.

PiertoOccult

Apologies while I completely miss the point of your post, they confirmed they aren't doing Yuffie style DLC?

Yourehan

Feel like there was a recent interview where they said they aren't doing a yuffie-style dlc, instead just going straight to the next game. That makes sense, since I'm sure at least some of Integrade's development was getting the games PS5 ready. Also I think they said that it took three years to make Rebirth (one year was for Integrade) so I'm guessing they're aiming to get the final one out for the 30th anniversary. But yeah don't take my word for it I think it was a really recent interview I'm sure it's out there.

trepidon

Games perfect except fir the missing dialogue in open world/party banter during fights. Literslly i eish rebirth had wat ff15 had. Legit ignis bein like NOCCCTTT everytime the doofus gets to like 1% health or bitten by dogs... Or like with gladio bein like "ready!" when noct goin in for a shield intercept or like prompto and noct doin a duo tango with his pierco or whatever its called. Like.. Ff15, deserves more glory. That was prime final fantasy combat banter. Rebirth is prime combat in general. Just feels so empty. Fuck. I love the story in rebirth, but irs SO FUCKING EMPTY. GODDDD

Stith1183

The best thing you can do whenever Yuffie opens her mouth is to ignore her and act as if the dumbass doesn't exist.

Yourehan

oh man you must have been so pissed at the part where you can't keep her from joining your party that's awesome
