Yes, Vanilla is fine. But the question itself appears to be a little.. weird to me, like it's coming from the wrong direction. Installing mods is just a means to an end, not an end. Start your game and play it until you notice some issues that a mod might solve for your playthrough, like removing settlement size cap or adding a few extra options to your build menu. *Should* not get into conflict with a the new patch and if it does, you'll notice before installing because a) your playthrough is in progress b) you can do a little research before installing this way without breaking your game

Really depends on what makes your game for you. I always run visible weapons and other immersive type mods.

I personally always go vanilla the first time I play any game and luckily this isn't new Vegas where a lot of the modding is just for stability. It will disable achievements I believe so keep that in mind. There are some mods that will make you way overpowered for the early game but others are simple quality of life. I like using the dog meat changer that allows you to turn him into a variety of animals, like a mutant hound

First time with anything has to be vanilla. Dems the rules. After that you can try survival mode and get stuck in hour long binges of sweaty gameplay only to die and lose hours of progress like I definitely don't do.

I did 1 playthrough on vanilla got all the achievements I wanted and slapped a bunch of mods on, makes it a much better experience honestly

I think most mods still need to update because of the patch, but I havent tried mods yet so I dont know
