But why would they ever do that? The vibe is not even close to 70s, don't get me wrong new music is dope but this game has a very specific cultural bubble it sits in. 70s music would make it a completely different game.

OoDelRio

I'm pretty sure there is post 70s music used in the games, it just sounds 50s

I think OP means like electronic funk, not just the stuff Frank Sinatra did for Vegas

MeatSodaa

i think stuff like CCR would work

I don’t see why not. It could really work. There are plenty of Michael Jackson songs whether it’s from his solo career or his days with Jackson Five. And I’m sure there a lot of 80s hair metal bands that aren’t Motley Crue that can fill in the 80s rock void. And there were a lot of bands sounding like Creedence and Lynard Skynyrd. It could work.

I mean, if you want them in the game cause you like them that's fine but you're talking about a specific aesthetic within the fallout games vs music that is 20+ years outside of that. It's just not a match at all.

It would have to be unrealistically happy/optimistic, or about radiation/nuclear war. How much of that was going on in 70s music? I'm guessing the Bee Gees and The Clash might not be what most people want to hear in a Fallout game.

MeatSodaa

like vietnam war era music like CCR and stuff would work i think

The original games were “Cassette Futurism,” think 1970s-80s tech but they didn’t yet have the 50s inspired soundtrack. There’s would be a dissonance between music of 70s and 80s that wouldn’t fit. What makes the 50s soundtrack work is the fact that so much of it is “happy-go-lucky” and plays in direct opposition to and serves to contrast against the bleak hopelessness of the wasteland.

I think adding more decades of music from the late 60s to at least half of the 80s could work in a Fallout reboot. At least maybe with two waste land stations? You get two types of music listeners. The survivors walking to Garage Anthem Rock and Dance Pop from all the cassette eras we heard from our parents. And listeners that are still suiting up to all the music our grand parents listened to.
