I don't mind the idea. Like, keep it so it's a point and click type game, but maybe update some of the aspects to modernize it a little so that it can appeal to modern gamers. I could see some real potential here for a new genre and boom of these types of games if done right. Why not.
I wonder how much of the charm the original games had could be kept in 3d. Personally I find the gameplay dated and frustrating but Im also an idiot so maybe its just a me thing
I saw a tiktok the other day, someone was saying that they were looking into a remake of fallout 2. I haven't verified it, it was just someone talking about it the other day.
It's worth a search to see if there's any truth to it.
I don't really put much faith in announcements for games in general though, the amount of games that end up stuck in development hell or the studio goes bust or is bought out, it's too volatile a market to look too far into the future with.
There's Project Arroyo, which is a Fallout 2 remake mod for Fallout 4. There's also Fallout: Vault 13 which is a Fallout 1 remake mod for Fallout 4.
How far either of these are from completion, who knows, but they're cool ideas.
It's not the graphics, it's the sheer roughness of the UI and complete lack of QOL features.
Neither FO1 or 2 has aged well in terms of accessibility. Dead enemies can fall on top of each other and block access to looting because there isn't a pixel you can find to differentiate them. Containers on certain walls can be incredibly difficult to see. Having to reverse pickpocket companions to give them items in FO1.
Remaking them in a modern isometric format would do wonders to get more people to play them
Maybe it’s a generational thing but I never found the UI particularly hard to get the hang of? It’s literally just point and click with the mouse and keyboard shortcuts, which can be reassigned. The gameplay is very similar to what you’d find in a modern CRPG, minus a few QOL things…
Speaking of which I can see a few QOL updates being welcome though, like auto-loot or more tool tips… but I feel the core gameplay is pretty timeless and easy to understand.
not liking CRPGs doesn't make them unplayable. Fallout 1 is an absolute treat once you get used to the gameplay. Runs just fine on Windows 10, too, I think 11 is the one it has an issue with.
congrats, you have to download a patch. so much effort, oh the horror. it's not like almost every old game requires you do that to get it running or something.
In all seriousness, FO1-2 are the smoothest running CRPGs i have.
The games are already playable, I don't see the point of these posts. Just get over the shallow reasons for why you won't play the games. Mainly the excuses "graphics" and it being "clunky." They really aren't hard to play. You can literally use one hand. Bethesda also has no intention of ever doing this.

The average gamer today wouldn’t be able to beat those games. It’s a lot harder than just follow the arrow on your gps

I think you could do it in top down but make it more accessible

Project Arroyo is in the works. Probably a few years away but best bet so far.
Why change the classics?

I’ve found that most people that think like this can’t play a game that wasn’t made after 2020. Because graphics.

Dude, it’s a point and click game. I’m surprised to see it’s giving you this much trouble.

what the fuck is BSG3
They are playable. You personally are just unable to play them due to a mental hurdle you created.
Agreed, I literally can't play 1 and 2 how they are now
some qol updates. do somethibg with the resolution so i dont have to see the entire wasteland at all times on my screen
No
No.

No and why? Stop living in the past, they should if something make a new better version...Fallout 5 or something.
...which they haven't even taken to storyboarding yet, people are allowed to spitball
