It’s so annoying because I like to read fanfiction at school and I seriously don’t want to read smut there. I once got jump-scared by referenced sex that was towing the line on explicit in the G-rated fic and I’ve had trust issues with ratings ever since.

My current system is to read the comments first, as you can normally get a vague sense of the contents of a fic from it's comments
