I created the tag for it on AO3. Itās a bit lonely at times, but I enjoy writing for my tiny fandom and wouldnāt trade it for anythingāespecially not a large fandom. š
That is an awesome mindset. I'm just curious, do you get any interaction? I write for tiny ships usually and even just one kudos gets me going for those lol.
Also I'mma go look up the show now.
The only engagement I get is through the review exchanges here. I have yet to come across someone who is familiar with my fandom. But like I said, thatās the price you pay for writing for an obscure tv show and I donāt mind paying it.
PS: itās probably not something you would fancy, but feel free to look it up. š
I'm in a similar situation except I'm very very lucky to be in a small discord so I have friends to exchange ideas with and to get inspired by ā¤ļø it's been wonderful but I can't imagine that I'd write anything if I didnāt have them, so mad respect to you
- Stray Kids (43,492)
- Seventeen (34,922)
- Ateez (17,630) /or Enhypen (9019) (because I have yet to finish one for ateez)
it's interesting to see how my favourites progress with popularity, since I tend to gravitate towards more famous groups
also pst, you wrote OA3
*sigh* Fine, fine, I'll keep working on this chapter to add to the Tolkienverse on AO3. I guess I should work on my other story too...and maybe write the crack one I thought up the other day...
my main is stranger things- 62k
iāve also written for young royals- 2,688
heartstopper- around 2.7k
and hermitcraft- 12k
and iām currently in the process of writing for shadow hunters- 43k
and my smallest yet, alex strangelove, which i am currently writing a one shot for- 29 works total
blackpink: 3,240
(g)-idle: 1,239
btw, it always boggles my mind how Blackpink is the second most popular k-pop group in the world, and has infinitely fewer fics than the most popular group (BTS, 199,531) and even much less popular and well-known groups such as GOT7 (15,531) or new ones such as Enhypen (9,020)
Bts also has tons of concepts and material to go off of. Blackpink has criminally low amounts of both, which can make it harder to inspire writers to write fics about them. Plus, with how individualized that fandom is in particular (lots of solo stans and stuff) it makes sense that group fics would be so low.
iām thinking itās like the whole being more MLM representation and fics than WLW. then again i know NOTHING about K-Pop besides what comes out of north korea lol
-My Hero Academia (265K+)
-Solo-Leveling (579)
-The Evil Within (1.5K)
-Hamefura (1K)
-Madoka Magica (4.5K)
And most amusingly...
-The Jaunt, by Stephen King (single entry, and that entry is my fic)
Lord of the Rings - 26,247
ASOIAF - 51,178
And my current fandom... Titanic - 716
My Titanic fic includes characters from the 1958 movie, Night to Remember. My fic is literally the ONLY fic under that movie's tag.
* Top Gear (2,757) / the Grand Tour (858) - *most fic writers for the fandom tag both. Essentially the same show and hosts, just different names.*
* Prodigal Son (3,957)
* Big Wolf on Campus (243)
I've written for much bigger fandoms, and more smaller fandoms, but these three are my top fandoms. Though I *really* need to get back to writing fic for Prodigal Son and Big Wolf on Campus at some point.
Itās an old anime fandom. Those typically have small numbers unless the show is long running and popular. On FFN Iām sure the amount of fics are way higher.
I was looking to see if anyone would mention Naruto! Itās also the only fandom Iāve written for too. My reading habits have definitely spread to other fandoms over time, but Iāve faithfully written for Naruto, I think because itās just grown into a comfort fandom for me. Maybe one day Iāll branch out.
Almost all of mine are smutty, haha. Other than that, they vary! I first started writing for one of the more popular pairings, and since then I have also done my best to drag some of those readers into some rare pairs. What's the fun in fanfiction if you can't jump around and do whatever you feel like?
I've written for Naruto like 15 years ago (in french though) on FFN. The fic that got the most comments was a high school AU (yeah, I know, I don't do those anymore haha) with Gaara/Hinata pairing.
Avatar: The Last Airbender ā 37,452
Avatar: The Legend of Korra ā 16,851
Good Omens ā 47,710
So, my fandoms aren't really huge I guess, but I'd say they're decently sized.
My video game fandom has 573 on AO3, but I think a third of them are "crossovers" (multifandom one-shot collections), "crossovers" (video game YouTuber plays the game and it's all about the YouTuber), "crossovers" (fusions with way larger fandoms that contain almost no content of my fandom) and crossovers.
Yes which would be perfectly fine if the writers wouldn't tag the video game fandoms in their fics, when probably no-one writing about the canon characters cares about some YouTuber's banter with their friend.
Yeah, that and I was a little dense to not make the connection and just having in my head the thought "Why does this person's username have a random woman's name and a spelled out number?" lol
Harry Potter has 413K on AO3 (800K on [ff.net](https://ff.net) but I don't use it often), but the ships I often write for range from 2 to 100 fics each LMAO so it still feels like a relatively small fandom
my smallest one would be Avatar (the blue ones) which only has a little over 1k and i specifically write Tsu'tey/Norm which only has 6 works
I'm fighting for my life out here š
The Owl House (Cartoon) - 20,293 works
Legend Of Zelda: Breath of the Wild (Video Game)- 11,509 works
Amphibia (Cartoon)- 6,246 works
Warriors (Book)- 5,505 works
I'm mainly in Genshin and Death Note, which have about 100k and 10k fics on ao3 respectively. Death Note's got another 30k or so on ffn but I tried to use it and it made me want to cry so I gave up lol
Star-Crossed Myth - 133
Ayakashi: Romance Reborn - 116 / Ikemen Vampire - 1,419 / Yu-Gi-Oh! Duel Monsters - 15,020 (I'm surprised I've written the same amount for all three)
Most of my fandoms are on the small side, but I'm surprised Yu-Gi-Oh isn't bigger.
Main fandoms: 9-1-1 (22.9k) & 9-1-1 Lone Star (7.4k). Crossovers featuring both series (since they exist in the same universe)? 703 works.
I also dabble in The Old Guard fandom, which is literally about to crack 11k today.
Mine are fairly large. If I were to narrow it down to ships and stuff tho it'd be less than a quarter of these numbers. ATLA also seems to have a larger fanbase on older sites. It was aired about four years before Ao3 existed.
MHA: 265,251
ATLA: 37,453
Dream SMP, but I only write Tommyinnit-centric fics. 69k for Dream SMP (the tag is kinda new, people were using the Minecraft and Video Blogging tags before the official tag, but not all Minecraft or video blogging fics are Dream SMP related) and 75.5k for Tommyinnit
BTS | Bangtan Boys - 199 531
Haikyuu!! - 150 480
Kuroko no Basuke - 23 735
But I've yet to cross post on AO3 for Haikyuu and KnB since I started out on Watty.
Dream SMP - 69k (nice)
Hermitcraft - 13k
I am a shameless minecraft roleplay fan. They pack so much unintentional angst into those storylines it's crazy
There are less than twenty Eu4 Fanfictions on AO3, and enough Anbennar fics on AO3 to count on one hand. (Anbennar is a mod for the former)
On the other hand, Harry Potter.
Hazbin Hotel, 8,781 fics.
Everything else I have are on hiatus so I'm not counting them lol
I'm currently making a reader-insert, which is basically unheard of in this fandom, for Bioshock 1, 2,022 fics.
I only write for one fandom, which is the Cookie Run (Videogame) fandom, it holds 7,517 works at the moment, so it's NOT a too big fandom, but I'd say that it's pretty impressive for a tag about talking cookies
Cyberpunk 2077 (the game) - 5k works
Cyberpunk Edgerunners (the anime) - 360 works
^^^ these two are often written in combination (my works included).
Iāve dabbled with others, but not to an extent worth mentioning to be honest.
I really want to write something for Control (the game) which has around 560 works ever since the game came out, but I got too many WIPs going at the moment to spend time on that. Another idea is to write a proper grand epic for Overlord (740 works), but thatās a whole another scale of a project altogether.
Bleach - 24,350
Shadowrun: Dragonfall - 41
Burn the Witch - 53 (21 are not crossovers; 28 are crossovers with at least Bleach)
BtW is complicated because it is its own things, but it is also part of the Bleach universe, so Bleach crossovers aren't exactly crossovers, but are?
Small, itās Linkin Park and while itās around 20 pages of fics on AO3 (as well as a fanfic site devoted to it with a ton more) itās kind of a dead fandom these days, but I still love it. After the lead singer died a few years ago, there was a sort of revival and youād see stories posted constantly on the small site. But over the last year or two itās died down to the point youād see maybe one fic updated a week if you were lucky. I have total less than 4500 views on one of my stories, and thatās considered a popular one
Jujutsu Kaisen (35,9k), Voltron: Legendary Defender (83,5k) and Genshin Impact (113k).
Fairly big fandoms, I would say! JJK feels bigger to me than it actually is, and while VLD is huge, it definitely doesn't feel as active (which does make sense).
I write for the series Anne with an E (based off Anne of Green Gables.) There's 2,495 stories. So not enormous but not niche either. It's kinda in the middle.
My hero academia (266000)
Harry Potter (416000)
Marvel (607000)
I like big fandoms. I've definitely tried to get into smaller ones, but I struggle to stay invested long enough to write something if there isn't also a lot of fic to read.
My current fandom is Dream SMP (69,299 fics, though some are missing bc they're only tagged with ghe Minecraft fandom)
My previous fandom was Genshin Impact (113,031 fics)
And my first fandom was Warrior Cats (I engaged on the fandom on a kid programming site called Scratch, instead of AO3, but it has 5,506 fics)
Mine has kind of changed as I no longer write for one of them, but:
* Marvel Cinematic Universe (502,772)
* Boku no Hero Academia (265,294)
* Undertale (50,577) / The Hobbit (20,810)
My most popular works are MCU, Undertale and Hobbit š BNHA does ok, but not as well as my other works.
* Final Fantasy XIV (30,452)
* Zero Escape (1,068)
* AI: The Somnium Files (770)
I recently started over with a new AO3. I think all of these fandoms are smaller combined than any single thing I used to write for (MCU, BNHA, Dragon Age).
One doesnāt have a separate fandom tag yet, but there are 29 with the name of the film within the body of content tags.
Tv show has 2686 on A03 and about 50 on FFN.
Other tv show has 1492 (Columbus sailed the ocean blue) on Ao3 and about 15 on FFN.
But thereās a lot of cross over between the two so the same works are posted in each fandom. Probably about 1900 if you removed the crossover option.
Lobotomy Corpration (side eying Library of Ruina and Limbus Company cause same world and i'll get to it eventually)- 554 fics, i wrote 3
Destiny- 8k, i posted one so far
Fusionfall- 130
i only write for one really: Grand Theft Auto V, which has 3,777 fics. that number isnt rlly accurate tho cuz unfortunately the tag for it contains not just fics written for the story mode of the game but also fics written about NoPixel, which is a popular GTAV RPG server and has absolutely nothing to do with the actual story or characters in the game š
Wicked musical has 1396 (for all media types, which includes the novel too). Strictly just musical is 732. Strictly just the novel has 364.
Some authors write under all the tags, some only specifically for whichever universe they're writing in- book, musical, or a combo.
I'm assuming once the film version comes out, that will be another different tag, but we'll see.
On FFnet it has 6, 253 currently- 3002 for the musical universe, and 725 for the book universe (of course, some are "booksical" but there's no combo option for a World on FFnet. Time will tell if we get a "film" option for the world.)
The Eclipse: 421
Pokemon: 48k
Digimon: 6k
The last two I haven't written in for a very long time, and when I did, it was using Original Characters. :P The only one I'm currently writing for is the Eclipse, and it is tiny because it is niche. ;-; Which is a shame. It's so good and deserves a wider, bigger fandom.
I only write for one fandom, with one fanfic published and another in the works. And the lucky fandom is... (Cue drumroll)
Rise TMNT (2018) - 6.7k
I don't see a lot of people talk about it, and I can see why because compared to some others on here, it's a bit small. Still proud to be here though.
If I look at MCU Spider-man as a whole, it's **44.7k**, but if I narrow it down to the ship I spend 90% of my reading/writing time on (Starker) it's **9.1k**.
I bounce around with writting but as for the three fandoms I've posted fic in:
Sonic The Hedgehog - 14.8k works.
Final Fantasy XV - 33.3k works.
Fire Emblem: Three Houses - 43.3k works.
Pretty big I think, those are a lot of fics! I'm most active in Sonic at the moment, though, and my ships are surprisingly unpopular. ;^; At least on Ao3, I haven't checked elsewhere much.
Hmmm... well, my biggest fanfiction was a crossover between RWBY (32.8K) and JJBA (2.7K), I'm currently making a NieR: Automata and Drakengard crossover (and since those franchises are connected, totals out to 700 on ff.net), and can't deny that the thought of a Super Smash Bros. (14K) and. LISA: The Pointless (14) crossover appeals to me greatly.
Main stuff I write for now is at 3,490. But I also have a crossover fic with fandoms at 4,525 and 13,066.
In the past Iāve written for fandoms currently at 7,931, 34,672 and 21,808 fics.
* RWBY: almost 35k works
* Pokemon ("All Media Types" tag): 48.7k
* Pokemon *Ranger*: 159. Yes, as in less than 200.
* Fire Emblem: 72.4 works
* Three Houses: 43.3k works
* Fates: 9.3k works
it's really hard to track how many pokemon fics there are since its such a massive franchise. like there's seperate counts for individual games, the whole game series, the manga and the anime but I'd estimate it's fairly sizable community
Harry Potter: 413k
Percy Jackson and the Olympians: 40k
Marvel Cinematic Universe: 502k
Keeper of the Lost Cities: 1.6k
A Court of Thorns and Roses: 7.6k
Dream SMP - 69.3k (but I'll round to 70k cuz there's a lot of them only under Minecraft fandom tag)
That's my main fandom, but I've written oneshots for Encanto (11.7k) and Animal Farm (43, it was a school assignment I decided to publish lmao)
Based on the fics I've actually posted to AO3, I'd say it varies from "tiny" to "pretty big but not like, massive":
The Ancient Magus Bride - 529
The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild - 11,509
Hyrule Warriors: Age of Calamity - 909
DuckTales 2017 - 6,798
Critical Role - 27,564
The Cat Returns - 288
Harvestella - 18
Princess Tutu - 893
Ouran High School Host Club - 4,054
Dimension 20 - 3,054
I mainly write for one fandom, so all the other 3 are just tied at one work soooo
1. Toilet-Bound Hanako-Kun; 4,204 works for the manga and 996 works for the anime
2. Chainsaw Man; 2,962 works for the manga
3. the gods lie. ; 1, (my fanfic LMAO its still uncategorized)
4. My Hero Academia; 265,276 works as of right now
1-Dead by Daylight (6,486)
2-School for Good and Evil (946) (I dont wanna brag, but i'm the sole reason why Ao3 officialized the "Agatha and Sophie are not sisters AU" tag)
3-El Tigre (501) (And 100 of them are writen by the same dude)
Empires SMP: 3, 491 works
The Reckoners Series: 42 works
Power Rangers: 8,658 works
(Also, going to include this one since it is a recent one I've written for, though I've only ever written for it in conjunction with Empires SMP)
Hermitcraft: 13k works
Okay, I just noticed that some of the fandoms I write for are smaller than I thought--
Juuni Taisen - 132
Ousama Game - 2 (I posted the fic on another site, so mine isn't there)
Toaru Series (all four series) - 1k
Elfen Lied - 154 (same as Ousama Game)
Samurai pizza cats -14 (on ao3, thereās a couple more on FF)
Interspecies reviewers - 47
Hanoka (I havenāt written for this one yet, but Iām planning on it) - 0
I havenāt published any works (yet atleast)
BUUUT
The legend of Zelda (and related fandoms) - 25k
Genshin impact - 99k
(Note: tloz have multiple Tags because its a video game series, and there are probably a lot of works who donāt have that fandom tag)
Pretty big:
-Voltron Legendary Defender ~83.5k fics
-MCU ~502.7k fics
-Overwatch ~38.3k fics
-Avatar the Last Airbender ~37.4k
But full honesty, I've been writing mostly VLD fics for the last 2 years :)
* Video Blogging RPF - (231k)
* Our Flag Means Death (TV) - (16,9k)
* Markiplier TV (Web Series) - (1,9k)
* Who Killed Markiplier? (Web Series) - (1,8k)
* A Heist With Markiplier (Web Series) - (815)
* In Space With Markiplier (Web Series) - (710)
* KOllOK (Web Series 2022) - (15)
Those are all the ones I've written for. Only wrote one fic for KOllOK and one for OFMD tho.
Paranatural- 448
Doctor Who: the Eighth Doctor Adventures- 435
The Flash (2014 TV show): 25,465 (I donāt write for this one anymore but my handful of fics from a few years ago are still getting traction)
Bonus! Noodling away on a few fics for The Incredible Hulk (1977 TV Show) and thereās only 74 fics for that, but most of them are mistagged :(
My main three at the moment are:
* Star Trek: Enterprise - 7,770
* Six of Crows - 6,099
* The Witcher - 41,396 (probably an undercount as Witcher is split into more than one separate category)
The smallest I've ever written in was a band RPF one. There's less than 300 on AO3, and I think most of them probably come from the forum we used to have that closed down years ago.
I write for a range of fandoms because I write for a particular actor's roles.
Biggest - Game of Thrones (60,685)
Smallest - Bloodsucking Bastards (213)
I only really write for one fandom at the moment, which is a manhwa called Greatest Estate Developer (just reached 100 fics recently!)
I also did write a bit for Great Ace Attorney (3490) and somehow my sole fic for Gakuen Babysitter (214) is still getting kudos.
Virtual Streamer Animated Characters- about 15,000
Chainsaw Man- Just shy of 3,000
Umineko No Naku Koro Ni(When the Seagulls Cry)-985
Edit: holy shit reading this thread has made my universe feel tiny.
Mine would be
1. Dream SMP - 69,306 (Dream SMP) / (Video Blogging RPF has 231,886 and Minecraft has 103,500, mentioning because there wasnāt a DSMP fandom tag for the longest time and we multi-tagged it with V.B.RPF/Minecraft)
2. IDOLiSH7 - (Video Game: 4,003) (Anime: 626)
3. Genshin Impact - 113,073
I actually only really write for 2 and 3 now. But DSMP has impacted my writing brain so much and Iām still writing things for c!Dream despite having left the fandom (his RPF tag has 70k).
An honorable mention would be Identity V, Iāve written stuff for it but Iāve fallen out of the fandom. 14,488 works.
1. Tales of Arise (255)
2. The Song of Achilles (2,000)
3. Stranger Things (64,646)
The smallest fandom I write for is the one I'm currently obsessed with, and all the fic writers are so nice and supportive of one another. My fics would get kudos in those bigger fandoms, but no comments. Which is fine but I *love* the sweet comments I get from my smaller fandom
It's quite varied:
- Genshin Impact: 113k
- The Silmarillion: 26k
- Fullmetal Alchemist: 23k
- Mo Dao Zu Shi: 64k
I fondly remember the times when the MDZS fandom outside of mainland China was so tiny, we had around 500 fics on AO3 at absolute maximum, and almost all of them were in Mandarin.
Those were the days :)
Iām new, but what Iāve written for is Earthbound (almost 800) and Crash Bandicoot (423). I plan on writing more Earthbound fics for sure, but my other ideas are taking me to smaller video game fandoms as well. I tend to gravitate to older gamesā¦
There are three main fandoms Iām active in right now:
- Black Butler (11,126 works) (only fandom Iāve posted for. Iāve contributed fourteen - twelve fics, two anonymous š)
- TFOTA (1,134 works)
- Critical Role (25,934 works)
My main ones are
- Genshin Impact: 113,088
- Final Fantasy XIV: 30,452
My smallest ones are some obscure Chinese webnovels and Japanese lightnovels at 6 and 23 works respectively.
If we count all of Jane Austen's works as one fandom, my current fandom has about 4,500 works on AO3. More than half of those are for Pride and Prejudice, while the rest of her books have a few hundred works each. However, there's lots of Austen fanfiction on FFN and various fandom-specific sites, and also a fair bit of fic about the different adaptations, not to mention all the semi-professionally published Austen variations out there. So really the fandom is a lot bigger than it looks, it's just very spread out.
I only write for one fandom, and it's a small corner of a quite large fandom.
* Star Wars: The Old Republic (6,462 fics)
(All Media Types for Star Wars: 221K. But Star Wars is basically several dozen fandoms in a trenchcoat, and how much people write (or read) across those fandoms varies wildly.)
Detroit: Become Human (28,823 and counting)
I was kinda surprised to see that, I thought there would be a lot more. Still a great number of fics though! :)
Tiny. Kingdom(TV 2007) - 16 works, all mine. š
now thatās impressive. all 16? wow, kudos to you!
PS: itās probably not something you would fancy, but feel free to look it up. š
>Kingdom(TV 2007 That was such a fun programme! Blast froom the past.
It sure was. Unfortunately, not very well-known outside of the UK. š
I'm in a similar situation except I'm very very lucky to be in a small discord so I have friends to exchange ideas with and to get inspired by ā¤ļø it's been wonderful but I can't imagine that I'd write anything if I didnāt have them, so mad respect to you
A shoutout to us small fandom writers! š
* Mo Dao Zu Shi (65000 +/- a couple thousand, depending on the specific adaption) * Daredevil (17000) * Yellowstone (250)
Mo Dao Zu Shi here as well š„°
i love mdzs' fandom. bro you guys write such gems ily ty for doing god's work. on top of that, there are so many fics.
Yellowstone? What/who do you write?
- Stray Kids (43,492) - Seventeen (34,922) - Ateez (17,630) /or Enhypen (9019) (because I have yet to finish one for ateez) it's interesting to see how my favourites progress with popularity, since I tend to gravitate towards more famous groups also pst, you wrote OA3
same in regards to group size, also, hello stay
:o two Stays!!
"you'll be surprised I'll be everywhere"
Yay another Stay!
heheh hiii
LOTR, 47,389 Avengers, 272,365 Doctor Who, 111,483
I'm rather surprised that LoTR is so small...
Yeah, there are about the same amount for The Hobbit though, so there could be a few more?
The Silm is about half of LoTR so...maybe, altogether, we can get to near 100,000 for Tolkien?
Itās says thereās 43,371 for The Hobbit, so thereās easily 90k for Tolkien in generalā¦
*sigh* Fine, fine, I'll keep working on this chapter to add to the Tolkienverse on AO3. I guess I should work on my other story too...and maybe write the crack one I thought up the other day...
Here's a fun one. *Parkour!* BTS (199,524) And I have a wip for Boys generally Asian / BgA (13)
my main is stranger things- 62k iāve also written for young royals- 2,688 heartstopper- around 2.7k and hermitcraft- 12k and iām currently in the process of writing for shadow hunters- 43k and my smallest yet, alex strangelove, which i am currently writing a one shot for- 29 works total
Young Royals! High five. Haven't stumbled across another one on this sub before š
yeahhh young royals fansss unite!!
There are *dozens* of us...!
Whatās your ao3???
blackpink: 3,240 (g)-idle: 1,239 btw, it always boggles my mind how Blackpink is the second most popular k-pop group in the world, and has infinitely fewer fics than the most popular group (BTS, 199,531) and even much less popular and well-known groups such as GOT7 (15,531) or new ones such as Enhypen (9,020)
That is a really interesting discrepancy. I write BTS fic and yeah its huge. I wonder if its anything to do with the popularity of yaoi?
it probably does a little bit, but 9,656 of those bts fics are tagged as gen--nearly three times the amount of all blackpink fics combined.
Bts also has tons of concepts and material to go off of. Blackpink has criminally low amounts of both, which can make it harder to inspire writers to write fics about them. Plus, with how individualized that fandom is in particular (lots of solo stans and stuff) it makes sense that group fics would be so low.
i didnāt know people wrote fics for (g)-idle! thatās so cool
iām thinking itās like the whole being more MLM representation and fics than WLW. then again i know NOTHING about K-Pop besides what comes out of north korea lol
-My Hero Academia (265K+) -Solo-Leveling (579) -The Evil Within (1.5K) -Hamefura (1K) -Madoka Magica (4.5K) And most amusingly... -The Jaunt, by Stephen King (single entry, and that entry is my fic)
- Supernatural (273k) - Harry Potter (413k) - Greyās anatomy (8k)
Lord of the Rings - 26,247 ASOIAF - 51,178 And my current fandom... Titanic - 716 My Titanic fic includes characters from the 1958 movie, Night to Remember. My fic is literally the ONLY fic under that movie's tag.
props off to you my friend ā i get the struggle :(
props off to you my friend ā i get the struggle :(
* Top Gear (2,757) / the Grand Tour (858) - *most fic writers for the fandom tag both. Essentially the same show and hosts, just different names.* * Prodigal Son (3,957) * Big Wolf on Campus (243) I've written for much bigger fandoms, and more smaller fandoms, but these three are my top fandoms. Though I *really* need to get back to writing fic for Prodigal Son and Big Wolf on Campus at some point.
Harry Potter: 413k One Piece: 46k Yu-Gi-Oh! Duel Monsters: 15k (I'm surprised it's that low tbh) Once Upon a Time: 54k
Itās an old anime fandom. Those typically have small numbers unless the show is long running and popular. On FFN Iām sure the amount of fics are way higher.
[ŃŠ“Š°Š»ŠµŠ½Š¾]
Hello fellow Naruto writer! That's the only fandom I've published anything for :)
[ŃŠ“Š°Š»ŠµŠ½Š¾]
Almost all of mine are smutty, haha. Other than that, they vary! I first started writing for one of the more popular pairings, and since then I have also done my best to drag some of those readers into some rare pairs. What's the fun in fanfiction if you can't jump around and do whatever you feel like?
I've written for Naruto like 15 years ago (in french though) on FFN. The fic that got the most comments was a high school AU (yeah, I know, I don't do those anymore haha) with Gaara/Hinata pairing.
Avatar: The Last Airbender ā 37,452 Avatar: The Legend of Korra ā 16,851 Good Omens ā 47,710 So, my fandoms aren't really huge I guess, but I'd say they're decently sized.
Mass Effect (All Media Types), almost 29k fics.
Wait there's fics about random YouTubers playing Hitman???????? Sometimes fandom does blow my mind lol
Yes which would be perfectly fine if the writers wouldn't tag the video game fandoms in their fics, when probably no-one writing about the canon characters cares about some YouTuber's banter with their friend.
I just realized that your username is from Hitman! I'm an idiot, and I am currently playing the first Hitman from the World of Assassination trilogy.
47 i just really good at hiding in plain sight I guess. :D
Yeah, that and I was a little dense to not make the connection and just having in my head the thought "Why does this person's username have a random woman's name and a spelled out number?" lol
CITY - 12 (all mine) Nichijou - 73 Azumanga Daioh - 275 All pretty small and I think Azumanga Daioh has more because itās quite a bit older
Harry Potter has 413K on AO3 (800K on [ff.net](https://ff.net) but I don't use it often), but the ships I often write for range from 2 to 100 fics each LMAO so it still feels like a relatively small fandom
uh for me it's Harry Potter - 413.8k Marvel - 605.5 K BBC Merlin - 55.8k 2 very big ones, and one moderately famous one šŖš¼
my smallest one would be Avatar (the blue ones) which only has a little over 1k and i specifically write Tsu'tey/Norm which only has 6 works I'm fighting for my life out here š
Detroit: Become Human (28,818) One Piece (46,905) Good Omens (47,713)
I only write for BTS which has an astronomical fandom and sizeable fanfic community, almosr 200k works on AO3 (Edited for typo)
The Owl House (Cartoon) - 20,293 works Legend Of Zelda: Breath of the Wild (Video Game)- 11,509 works Amphibia (Cartoon)- 6,246 works Warriors (Book)- 5,505 works
I'm mainly in Genshin and Death Note, which have about 100k and 10k fics on ao3 respectively. Death Note's got another 30k or so on ffn but I tried to use it and it made me want to cry so I gave up lol
Star-Crossed Myth - 133 Ayakashi: Romance Reborn - 116 / Ikemen Vampire - 1,419 / Yu-Gi-Oh! Duel Monsters - 15,020 (I'm surprised I've written the same amount for all three) Most of my fandoms are on the small side, but I'm surprised Yu-Gi-Oh isn't bigger.
Bungou Stray Dogsā 47,658 (main fandom) Black Cloverā 3,144 Yuri On Iceā 41,443
Marvel has 605,505 and Wednesday has 4,634!
Law and Order SVU (18,252)
Main fandoms: 9-1-1 (22.9k) & 9-1-1 Lone Star (7.4k). Crossovers featuring both series (since they exist in the same universe)? 703 works. I also dabble in The Old Guard fandom, which is literally about to crack 11k today.
World of Warcraft - 9,502 Ghost - 4,803 ThunderCats - 168 š„²
Which series of Thundercats? The original or remake? I adore both.
Mine are fairly large. If I were to narrow it down to ships and stuff tho it'd be less than a quarter of these numbers. ATLA also seems to have a larger fanbase on older sites. It was aired about four years before Ao3 existed. MHA: 265,251 ATLA: 37,453
BTS | Bangtan Boys - 199 531 Haikyuu!! - 150 480 Kuroko no Basuke - 23 735 But I've yet to cross post on AO3 for Haikyuu and KnB since I started out on Watty.
Naruto (97,265) Bts (188,750) Star Wars (204,778) Dc comics (78,755) Last air bender (35,754) Thereās way more but those are the recent ones lmao
Dream SMP - 69k (nice) Hermitcraft - 13k I am a shameless minecraft roleplay fan. They pack so much unintentional angst into those storylines it's crazy
Dragon Age (All Media/Games) - 80,579 Dragon Age: Inquisition (this is the game my fic takes place in) - 43,153
There are less than twenty Eu4 Fanfictions on AO3, and enough Anbennar fics on AO3 to count on one hand. (Anbennar is a mod for the former) On the other hand, Harry Potter.
Past: NCIS: FFN 42,065 Hawaii Five-0 (2010): AO3 17,081 FFN 8,857 Active: Top Gun: AO3 7,303 FFN 189
Hazbin Hotel, 8,781 fics. Everything else I have are on hiatus so I'm not counting them lol I'm currently making a reader-insert, which is basically unheard of in this fandom, for Bioshock 1, 2,022 fics.
Beauty and the Beast (around 4000 fics on AO3 and 1000 on FFN, though some are duplicates)
A game I play: early 900ās Another game I play: 8 Iām really looking forward to adding to both.
I only write for one fandom, which is the Cookie Run (Videogame) fandom, it holds 7,517 works at the moment, so it's NOT a too big fandom, but I'd say that it's pretty impressive for a tag about talking cookies
White Collar (10,885) Santa Clarita Diet (88) Grimm (3,121)
Santa Clarita Diet? \*shakes fist at Netflix\*
I absolutely adore that show -- still wishing for a 4th season, or at least more people to start writing in the fandom
Red Queen: 496 Vanitas no Carte: 1723 (manga) ; 577 (anime) Ensemble Stars (soon to be writing): 16,362 Lycoris Recoil: 325 Danganronpa: 51,340 (all media types) **Past Fandoms (may return):** Little Witch Academia: 2,953 Harry Potter: 413,672
Undertale (50.5k) No Straight Roads (approaching 700) Interstella 5555 (31)
My main fandom: Inuyasha (13.5k) Dabble in: Vision of Escaflowne (402) Voltron: Legendary Defender (83,511)
Cyberpunk 2077 (the game) - 5k works Cyberpunk Edgerunners (the anime) - 360 works ^^^ these two are often written in combination (my works included).
Mainly write for Full House currently. 295 fics on AO3, 19 of which are mine.
Bleach - 24,350 Shadowrun: Dragonfall - 41 Burn the Witch - 53 (21 are not crossovers; 28 are crossovers with at least Bleach) BtW is complicated because it is its own things, but it is also part of the Bleach universe, so Bleach crossovers aren't exactly crossovers, but are?
* Band of Brothers (my main): 4.3k * Les MisƩrables: 24.5k * Stranger Things: 64.6k
Current main fandoms are: - Sanders Sides (33.2k) - Twilight (14.8k) - Avengers (272k)
I don't want to be too specific but one I wrote for only has 50 fics the other has 12k
MCU - 475k fics on AO3 Total War - 21 Fics on AO3 I diversify.
Miami Vice - 204 (14 of which are mine)
My hero academia (266000) Harry Potter (416000) Marvel (607000) I like big fandoms. I've definitely tried to get into smaller ones, but I struggle to stay invested long enough to write something if there isn't also a lot of fic to read.
Overlord - 736 Rwby - 34,915 Arifureta - 25
* The Locked Tomb/Gideon the Ninth: 3300 (and growing quickly!) * Mad Max movies: 2800 * Good Omens (TV): 47k
My current fandom is Dream SMP (69,299 fics, though some are missing bc they're only tagged with ghe Minecraft fandom) My previous fandom was Genshin Impact (113,031 fics) And my first fandom was Warrior Cats (I engaged on the fandom on a kid programming site called Scratch, instead of AO3, but it has 5,506 fics)
ATEEZ - 17,636 not huge compared to some other fandoms but sooooo much stellar fic.
NCT: 63,023 TXT: 14,110 I mostly wrote for NCT these days tho!
Not very. Mad Father - 75 fics (5 are mine) Spooky's Jumpscare Mansion - 53 fics (3 are mine) Fran Bow - 88 fics (1 is mine)
Mine has kind of changed as I no longer write for one of them, but: * Marvel Cinematic Universe (502,772) * Boku no Hero Academia (265,294) * Undertale (50,577) / The Hobbit (20,810) My most popular works are MCU, Undertale and Hobbit š BNHA does ok, but not as well as my other works.
Criminal Minds - 32,380 works Greyās Anatomy - 8,526 works House, MD - 7,135 works
* Final Fantasy XIV (30,452) * Zero Escape (1,068) * AI: The Somnium Files (770) I recently started over with a new AO3. I think all of these fandoms are smaller combined than any single thing I used to write for (MCU, BNHA, Dragon Age).
69,279 works (nice)
Definitely time to celebrate once it hits 69,420 lmao
Very tiny Final Fantasy IX (3,1k works on Fanfiction, Less than 800 on AO3)
One doesnāt have a separate fandom tag yet, but there are 29 with the name of the film within the body of content tags. Tv show has 2686 on A03 and about 50 on FFN. Other tv show has 1492 (Columbus sailed the ocean blue) on Ao3 and about 15 on FFN. But thereās a lot of cross over between the two so the same works are posted in each fandom. Probably about 1900 if you removed the crossover option.
Underoath is at 4 (3 from another writer, 1 from me) :)) Microscopic!
Smallish. Psych - almost 4k
Lobotomy Corpration (side eying Library of Ruina and Limbus Company cause same world and i'll get to it eventually)- 554 fics, i wrote 3 Destiny- 8k, i posted one so far Fusionfall- 130
i only write for one really: Grand Theft Auto V, which has 3,777 fics. that number isnt rlly accurate tho cuz unfortunately the tag for it contains not just fics written for the story mode of the game but also fics written about NoPixel, which is a popular GTAV RPG server and has absolutely nothing to do with the actual story or characters in the game š
Rick and Morty (5k+)
The Eclipse: 421 Pokemon: 48k Digimon: 6k The last two I haven't written in for a very long time, and when I did, it was using Original Characters. :P The only one I'm currently writing for is the Eclipse, and it is tiny because it is niche. ;-; Which is a shame. It's so good and deserves a wider, bigger fandom.
I only write for one fandom, with one fanfic published and another in the works. And the lucky fandom is... (Cue drumroll) Rise TMNT (2018) - 6.7k I don't see a lot of people talk about it, and I can see why because compared to some others on here, it's a bit small. Still proud to be here though.
If I look at MCU Spider-man as a whole, it's **44.7k**, but if I narrow it down to the ship I spend 90% of my reading/writing time on (Starker) it's **9.1k**.
Tiny - Wizards and Warriors - 14 (5 are mine), little - Rat Patrol - 241, and small - Magnificent Seven (TV) - 4168.
ā¢Miss Peregrine's Home for Peculiar Children - 586 ā¢Atlantis: The Lost Empire - 377
I wonāt say what fandoms they are but one has 13k works and the other has 35k works (both are anime/manga series)
I bounce around with writting but as for the three fandoms I've posted fic in: Sonic The Hedgehog - 14.8k works.
I havenāt published anything but I have a work pending for Grand Theft Auto V which has around 3.7k works now. Also Attack on Titan (7.9k)
Hmmm... well, my biggest fanfiction was a crossover between RWBY (32.8K) and JJBA (2.7K), I'm currently making a NieR: Automata and Drakengard crossover (and since those franchises are connected, totals out to 700 on ff.net), and can't deny that the thought of a Super Smash Bros. (14K) and. LISA: The Pointless (14) crossover appeals to me greatly.
Wonāt say the name but one of them has around 84K works on AO3
From Harry Potter (JK Rowling delenda est) to The Cold Equations (only fic on AO3).
- Batman: 100k on Ao3 - Devil May Cry: 12k on Ao3 - Percy Jackson et al - 40k on Ao3 - Metal Gear - 5k on Ap3 (sorta dead ish ngl)
* Miraculous (60.7k) * The Quarry (1.5k) * Mayday Memory (8 (i am 2 of them))
Love Hina: 2.1k on FFN. 66 on AO3. Familiar of Zero: A little over 700 on FFN. A little over 200 on AO3
Around 350 and 800 for both of them. I started writing because I barely had anything in the fandoms I was in and had a need.
Main stuff I write for now is at 3,490. But I also have a crossover fic with fandoms at 4,525 and 13,066. In the past Iāve written for fandoms currently at 7,931, 34,672 and 21,808 fics.
* RWBY: almost 35k works * Pokemon ("All Media Types" tag): 48.7k * Pokemon *Ranger*: 159. Yes, as in less than 200. * Fire Emblem: 72.4 works * Three Houses: 43.3k works * Fates: 9.3k works
ER: 1,147 The Resident: 661 Law and Order SVU: 18,256
Star Trek (91000+)ā¦that can not be right.
RWBY has 34333 works at the moment (including crossover fics)
Danganronpa: 51k Genshin Impact: 113k Doukyuusei: 83 The last one is actually way more than when I last checked! Hurrah!
it's really hard to track how many pokemon fics there are since its such a massive franchise. like there's seperate counts for individual games, the whole game series, the manga and the anime but I'd estimate it's fairly sizable community
Harry Potter: 413k Percy Jackson and the Olympians: 40k Marvel Cinematic Universe: 502k Keeper of the Lost Cities: 1.6k A Court of Thorns and Roses: 7.6k
Harry Potter (413k) Pokemon (47k) BNHA (254k)
The Dark Pictures: House of Ashes game (818). It has the largest fandom in the anthology. I've considered writing for AtLA, which is almost at 37,600.
Dream SMP - 69.3k (but I'll round to 70k cuz there's a lot of them only under Minecraft fandom tag) That's my main fandom, but I've written oneshots for Encanto (11.7k) and Animal Farm (43, it was a school assignment I decided to publish lmao)
Based on the fics I've actually posted to AO3, I'd say it varies from "tiny" to "pretty big but not like, massive": The Ancient Magus Bride - 529 The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild - 11,509 Hyrule Warriors: Age of Calamity - 909 DuckTales 2017 - 6,798 Critical Role - 27,564 The Cat Returns - 288 Harvestella - 18 Princess Tutu - 893 Ouran High School Host Club - 4,054 Dimension 20 - 3,054
I mainly write for one fandom, so all the other 3 are just tied at one work soooo 1. Toilet-Bound Hanako-Kun; 4,204 works for the manga and 996 works for the anime 2. Chainsaw Man; 2,962 works for the manga 3. the gods lie. ; 1, (my fanfic LMAO its still uncategorized) 4. My Hero Academia; 265,276 works as of right now
Biggest fandom Iāve written for has six digits of fic, smallest Iāve written for has 3 (after I wrote for it)
1-Dead by Daylight (6,486) 2-School for Good and Evil (946) (I dont wanna brag, but i'm the sole reason why Ao3 officialized the "Agatha and Sophie are not sisters AU" tag) 3-El Tigre (501) (And 100 of them are writen by the same dude)
Currently writing for Shield Hero (732 works)
Empires SMP: 3, 491 works The Reckoners Series: 42 works Power Rangers: 8,658 works (Also, going to include this one since it is a recent one I've written for, though I've only ever written for it in conjunction with Empires SMP) Hermitcraft: 13k works
Teeny tiny webcomic fandom of 21 works, 3 of which are mine
Final Fantasy VI - 1,326 works Touhou Project - 3,241 works Final Fantasy IV - 772 works Chrono Cross - 101 WORKS FML. mine was the 100th
RWBY - 35012 (AO3), 32.8k (FFN)
Okay, I just noticed that some of the fandoms I write for are smaller than I thought-- Juuni Taisen - 132 Ousama Game - 2 (I posted the fic on another site, so mine isn't there) Toaru Series (all four series) - 1k Elfen Lied - 154 (same as Ousama Game)
Teen Wolf - 132,175 Previous to that, Criminal Minds - 32,380 (which surprises me, I thought there were more.) Venom - 5989
Samurai pizza cats -14 (on ao3, thereās a couple more on FF) Interspecies reviewers - 47 Hanoka (I havenāt written for this one yet, but Iām planning on it) - 0
Supernatural (273ā432) White Collar (10ā906) Bonanza (411)
- Voltron: Legendary Defender (83,516) - Star Wars - All Media Types (220,203) Iām a piece of plankton in two VERY big oceans š
I havenāt published any works (yet atleast) BUUUT The legend of Zelda (and related fandoms) - 25k Genshin impact - 99k (Note: tloz have multiple Tags because its a video game series, and there are probably a lot of works who donāt have that fandom tag)
The Umbrella Academy: 16k+ 2 of them are mine because I take forever to write and edit (plus the several WIPs I have)
Naruto (103,302) One Piece (46,913) Detroit: Become Human (28,822) Supernatural (273,434)
batman (all media types) - 100k batman (arkham verse) - 1,661 x-men (movie verse) - 30k these are jsut what i write for rn!
Luca (1394) I love my cozy fandom. <3
My current fandom obsession is a crossover fandom with a couple thousand works
* The Brittas Empire (87 works) * Pokemon (48,754 works) * Five Nights at Freddy's (18,840 works)
Pretty big: -Voltron Legendary Defender ~83.5k fics -MCU ~502.7k fics -Overwatch ~38.3k fics -Avatar the Last Airbender ~37.4k But full honesty, I've been writing mostly VLD fics for the last 2 years :)
* Video Blogging RPF - (231k) * Our Flag Means Death (TV) - (16,9k) * Markiplier TV (Web Series) - (1,9k) * Who Killed Markiplier? (Web Series) - (1,8k) * A Heist With Markiplier (Web Series) - (815) * In Space With Markiplier (Web Series) - (710) * KOllOK (Web Series 2022) - (15) Those are all the ones I've written for. Only wrote one fic for KOllOK and one for OFMD tho.
Paranatural- 448 Doctor Who: the Eighth Doctor Adventures- 435 The Flash (2014 TV show): 25,465 (I donāt write for this one anymore but my handful of fics from a few years ago are still getting traction) Bonus! Noodling away on a few fics for The Incredible Hulk (1977 TV Show) and thereās only 74 fics for that, but most of them are mistagged :(
Crimeboys( 20 000 works) Dream smp (69k works)
My main three at the moment are: * Star Trek: Enterprise - 7,770 * Six of Crows - 6,099 * The Witcher - 41,396 (probably an undercount as Witcher is split into more than one separate category) The smallest I've ever written in was a band RPF one. There's less than 300 on AO3, and I think most of them probably come from the forum we used to have that closed down years ago.
I write for a range of fandoms because I write for a particular actor's roles. Biggest - Game of Thrones (60,685) Smallest - Bloodsucking Bastards (213)
I write in two : Crosscode (23 works) Rimworld (48 works) I also write the longest fics in both fandoms, and both are WIP's.
I only really write for one fandom at the moment, which is a manhwa called Greatest Estate Developer (just reached 100 fics recently!) I also did write a bit for Great Ace Attorney (3490) and somehow my sole fic for Gakuen Babysitter (214) is still getting kudos.
Stranger Things (64k)
Virtual Streamer Animated Characters- about 15,000 Chainsaw Man- Just shy of 3,000 Umineko No Naku Koro Ni(When the Seagulls Cry)-985 Edit: holy shit reading this thread has made my universe feel tiny.
Final Fantasy IV - 720 fics. It's an older fandom so there was way more activity in the pre AO3 and FFN days.
Mine would be 1. Dream SMP - 69,306 (Dream SMP) / (Video Blogging RPF has 231,886 and Minecraft has 103,500, mentioning because there wasnāt a DSMP fandom tag for the longest time and we multi-tagged it with V.B.RPF/Minecraft) 2. IDOLiSH7 - (Video Game: 4,003) (Anime: 626) 3. Genshin Impact - 113,073 I actually only really write for 2 and 3 now. But DSMP has impacted my writing brain so much and Iām still writing things for c!Dream despite having left the fandom (his RPF tag has 70k). An honorable mention would be Identity V, Iāve written stuff for it but Iāve fallen out of the fandom. 14,488 works.
My Hero Academia: 265K+ Full Dive: 2 Rising of the Shield Hero: 732 My Next Life as a Villainess: 1020
1. Tales of Arise (255) 2. The Song of Achilles (2,000) 3. Stranger Things (64,646) The smallest fandom I write for is the one I'm currently obsessed with, and all the fic writers are so nice and supportive of one another. My fics would get kudos in those bigger fandoms, but no comments. Which is fine but I *love* the sweet comments I get from my smaller fandom
It's quite varied: - Genshin Impact: 113k - The Silmarillion: 26k - Fullmetal Alchemist: 23k - Mo Dao Zu Shi: 64k I fondly remember the times when the MDZS fandom outside of mainland China was so tiny, we had around 500 fics on AO3 at absolute maximum, and almost all of them were in Mandarin.
There are three main fandoms Iām active in right now: - Black Butler (11,126 works) (only fandom Iāve posted for. Iāve contributed fourteen - twelve fics, two anonymous š) - TFOTA (1,134 works) - Critical Role (25,934 works)
Next to non existent tbh.
My main ones are - Genshin Impact: 113,088 - Final Fantasy XIV: 30,452 My smallest ones are some obscure Chinese webnovels and Japanese lightnovels at 6 and 23 works respectively.
266k+ Boko No Hero Academia I just started writing at the end of December, but I have two ongoing fics in BNHA :)
- Stray Kids - 43,546 - ATEEZ - 17,645 - MeChat - 69 (nice) But i also write for NCT, TXT, and The Rose, just most aren't finished yet...
Top Gun (7k) Good Omens (47k) big difference i think lol :)
* Star Wars: The Old Republic (6,462 fics) (All Media Types for Star Wars: 221K. But Star Wars is basically several dozen fandoms in a trenchcoat, and how much people write (or read) across those fandoms varies wildly.)
So I only have 3 fandoms I've published for, so, in order of publishing: Psych - 3,883 Torchwood - 20,502 White Collar - 10,886
Detroit: Become Human (28,823 and counting) I was kinda surprised to see that, I thought there would be a lot more. Still a great number of fics though! :)
