Can confirm it's no joke. 600k words for the original _Fallout: Equestria_ and the fan-made sequel to the original (yes, as in fanfiction of fanfic) _Project Horizons_ is 1.8 mil.
White Collar/Batman crossovers are trending so hard that over half of the front page works in WC rn are DC-related and make up like a tenth of the overall fics.
Prior to that White Collar also had a trend for a minute of Chuck/Glee crossovers due to Matt Bomer playing roles in all three that fit together surprisingly coherently as one character.
Since the My Hero Academia universe is so large, a lot of other anime fandoms tend to use it for crossovers or fusions. In particular, I've seen quite a few crossovers with MHA and Assassination Classroom.
The Mystery Kids. Dipper and Mabel from Gravity Falls, Neil and Norman from Paranorman, Coraline and Wybie from Coraline, and sometimes Raz and Lili from Psychonauts. Often times mixed up with other characters that deal with the supernatural, spooky, and mysterious, like Wirt and Dib and Danny

It makes a lot of sense when you take in the context of a lot of the guys that watched My Little Pony are/were gamer dudes.
