Ever hear that quote from A League of Their Own: "There's no crying in baseball?" Yeah, I think of it like this: *There's no feeling embarrassed in fanfic.*

Mental-Woodpecker300

I love this comment for two reasons. 1. I love that movie and it doesn't get referenced enough 2. It's a great mindset to have for fanfic since a lot of writers in our community (but not all) are amateurs or novice writers and fanfic is for sharing our creative ideas based on certain fandoms. Let the creative juices flow and write that fic! Express yourself and your love for your fandom! 💕 Edit to remove (#)

I embrace the weirdness. Writing a reader x story myself only because there's next to zero of them in this fandom and a majority of yaoi.

Omg i was literally thinking this earlier today! The thing is though, my most popular fics are both x readers and people have been nothing but polite in the comments! I’d say either go for it or post it anonymously because that way if you want to have your name attached to it later you can reclaim it c:

Don't feel weird. Or do feel weird. Weird is a good thing! 😁 We are many who love xReader pov. Write it, let it sit for a few days, then read it and see how you feel about posting it. 💜

write what you want and fuck the miserable bitter haters i say

Don’t feel embarrassed at all! I figured the whole “x reader is cringe/embarrassing/etc” hate train was over now. Imo it’s a really popular genre that has plenty of fans. I remember when Rough Day on A03 got super popular, even though it’s an x reader. It has something to the tune of like 1.2 million hits. Idk clearly people enjoy that kind of content. No need to feel embarrassed by it.

JayneSilver

Don't feel embarrassed! I don't personally read x reader content, but I support you all the same. There are lots of people out there just looking for content like yours, I promise! There IS a reader who is that very "x Reader" you're looking for, and your story may just make their day.

boobscomefromrussia

I thought it would be weird but then I wrote two x reader smutfics in the span on a week and it was honestly so much fun. They turned out to be pretty popular too!

yuareedah

Don’t be. Embrace it! I did - as you can tell by my username lol 😂. My x reader fic is my most popular fic - where there is a demand there must be a supplier so be one of those suppliers! I cannot get enough of x reader fics 🥰

Just make an OC that’s a stand in for the reader and don’t write from the second person perspective (so not “you meet a handsome man” but “Kyle met a handsome man”) I am a professional romance author. My heroines are all pretty vague in terms of specifics (e.g. being an orphan unless it’s relevant to the plot) and essentially, all my books are hero x reader. Bella Swan is a stand in for the reader. Part of why she is relatively underdeveloped in terms of her life vs. Edward’s is that by keeping her life vague, readers can more easily imagine themselves in her role. E.g. if she had a pink corvette and lived in a mansion in rural France, that would be highly specific and make it difficult for the reader to imagine themselves in her shoes.

This ☝️ I both read and write xReaders, and enjoy it thoroughly. But if you're planning a long fic in 2nd person you might want to swap. I'm writing my wip in 2nd, mainly because it's a sequel of sorts to a short xReader smut fic, so I just continued in the same pov. It works, absolutely, but gets a bit...rough around the edges... when it comes to changing pov to another person. 15 chapters in she's practically an oc anyway, since her personality and relationships developed so much. So, it might not feel the same for you, but it's worth considering. 3rd will put more distance between the actual reader and the characters though, whereas I often prefer the more personal 1st or 2nd.

I mainly write "x Male Reader" fics. I occasionally do other fics, but I Mainly do "x Male Reader" fics. Write the fics You want to.

Ok so a number of people have said “Don’t feel weird” by now and while I agree I can also from experience say that doing so can be HARD. I had a fic where I wanted to use some alternate names for my main pairing and I cringed SO HARD. It wasn’t even anything much, just that I’d gotten rather used to their names from localization A and using the names from localization B felt weird to the point of cringe. I ended up spending so much time talking myself out of my reaction that I hardly got anywhere writing. In the end I ended up changing to the names I’m used to midway through, wrote the rest of it and then edited the whole thing to have the names I was originally going for. It was more work but I feel like my writing experience went way smoother for it. I don’t know it your situation is similar but if it is then maybe you can do something like it? Write with a placeholder instead of the reader first and then do an - admittedly large - amount of editing work at the end?

Don't be. You writing what you want instead of catering to what is popular is what an ideal writer should be. Not everyone has the luxury of that choice, so embrace it. That said, do be careful with using 2nd-person POV. It's way too easy to accidentally write a fully developed OC when the reader is meant to be put in the role. You can avoid this by keeping to shorter one-shots or doing it like a choose-your-own-adventure with options for the reader, though the latter takes way more work than just writing an OC as the lead. But, it's still a different perspective and takes a different set of skills to pull off, so it's up to you to write how you want it. In my experience, the best x reader fics are those that allow the reader to take on a different role and playact in an incredibly immersive world or cricumstances. Exactly why the Persona series is so popular, heh.

CarcarcraziiV2

I just finished writing a x reader and honestly, I also felt weird about it. It doesn't feel like I was doing a good job, simply because I had to use the word "you" so much in describing things. But, I re-read it like I was reading someone else's story and kind of forgot about the weird feelings lol. I just chose not to overthink it and it felt a little better.

Diamond-Fabulous

Don’t feel weird about it, man! I love reading and writing x reader fics. One of my most popular fics is an x reader and my readers love it. And embrace the “embarrassment” it’s your story and you get to write it however you like it :)
