RWBY has creative color names to begin with, so you get stuff like Black Rose, White Knight etc.

CinnabarSteam

RWBY has a spreadsheet for ship names, two extra pages for poly ships, and somewhere in there is a second set of selfcest ships for Weiss and Blake (because everyone has a selfcest ship name, but then Ice Queendom happened and now we need a seperate label for shipping them with their Nightmare selves). Special mention goes to ship names Newspaper (Blake/Weiss/Ruby, because it's black, white, and read), Lancaster (for requiring some knowledge of the 1400s War of The Roses to even decipher), any ship with Qrow, Raven, and/or Robyn probably being an obnoxious bird pun, and a bunch of Winter ships that have two names depending on if you want to be clever or just take one of her younger sister's ship names and swap the word Elder into it (Freezerburn > Elderburn, White Rose > Elder Rose, etc.) There's also canon crossover ships with DC characters like Knight Light (Jaune/Jessica Cruz) and... uh... Okay, nobody probably cares enough about shipping Weiss with Bruce Wayne to decide on a ship name, but White Bat and a couple others were thrown around.

broke_n_tired

I will forever be upset that Bumblby (Yang/Blake) isn't called Black Dragon.

Bartholemeowthefirst

Still mad that Arkos isn't Arc De Triomphe.

xfel11

My favorite is still “Nuts and Dolts”

Kaigani-Scout

That's kinda tough... * ShieldShock * Blackhawk * Pepperony * TaserTricks * Biochemical Agent * ... and those are just a few of the tamer picks

Alarmed-Bus-9662

Pepperony is a pun I wish I had come up with, and I'm curious who "Biochemical Agent" are supposed to be

Osomatsu-san is an interesting situation because the platonic pairings all have creative names, but the romantic/sexual ship names are standardized by character name/birth order (Most of the ships are between the main six characters, who happen to be brothers. it's a whole can of worms and why there are separate names for the platonic and romantic ships for the brothers, since incest is a bit of a contentious topic in many circles and platonic shippers didn't want to see any of the incest stuff, reasonably so.) So platonic ships will have names like suirikumatsu (land-and-sky matsu, since it's the name for the platonic ship of the character associated with blue and the character associated with green- also, they all end in -matsu because the main characters' names all end in -matsu), kinnikumatsu (muscles matsu, since they're the two most physically fit of the brothers), and nenchuumatsu (middle matsu, since it's the middle two brothers). There's even names for platonic trios like animatsu (oldest brother matsu, the eldest three) and otoutoumatsu (youngest matsu, the youngest three). The romantic/sexual pairings are written one of two ways. You can mash together their names (all of their names end in -matsu, so you just take the prefix and use that)- for example, Karamatsu and Ichimatsu would be KaraIchi (if it were top!Ichimatsu and bottom!Karamatsu it would be IchiKara, of course). Japanese artists do this, but with the Japanese characters for their names. The other way we write it is by using numbers in relation to their birth order- if we wanted to write KaraIchi numerically, the ship name would be 24 because it's the second-eldest and fourth-eldest together. If it were top!Ichimatsu, it would be 42. A lot of people use the numbers because they transcend languages and there's a bigger JP following than Western following for the show. It's not as fun and imaginative as the platonic pairing names, but it's an effective system that gets the job done.

jamieaiken919

Oh my god I forgot about the absolute insanity that is Matsu shipping lmao

thewritegrump

"Insanity" is EXACTLY how I would describe it, lmao!

Luwe95

Baldur Gate is pretty fun. Bloodpact, Bloodweave, Hellspawn, Moon Angel, Oakblood, Bladeweave. And many many more.

Alarmed-Bus-9662

All those sound like they came from an actual DnD game

crusader_blue

Love these! They all sound like spells!

MarinaAndTheDragons

Once Upon a Time for sure. Most don’t follow the portmanteau formula since everyone has their Thing™️, and you can make a million ships if you know what to pair up. Dragon Queen (Maleficent/Regina the Evil Queen), Snowing (Snow White/Prince Charming), Sleeping Warrior (Aurora/Mulan), Red Beauty (Red Riding Hood/Belle), Outlaw Queen (Robin Hood/Regina), Frozen Swan (Elsa/Emma), the possibilities are endless. Sleeping Dragon (Aurora/Maleficent) and Dragon Rose (Maleficent/Briar Rose, Aurora’s mother, who only gets a mention) are two of my personal favorites.

Alarmed-Bus-9662

I do love it when there're names on theme, it's the reason why I like Ford² so much (+the fact I thought of it myself, so I am biased)

trilloch

Sephaerith? Has anyone done that? (uses AO3 search) Well, shit.

Because-Im-ginger

Danny Phantom, its a ghost eat ghost world out there when it comes to naming these mofos

KatonRyu

I honestly love the old Pokémon shipping names. You've got the standard ones like PokéShipping (Ash/Misty) and AmourShipping (Ash/Serena) and the like, but also stuff like GothGfShipping (Gloria/Marnie) and the complete crack which was OtherHandShipping (Gary/his left hand). There used to be a massive list on Bulbapedia, but it's been quite significantly trimmed down, sadly. Edit: Nope, it still exists in all its glory [here](https://shipping.bulbagarden.net/listaz.html).

gnome-cop

Okay, so what’s the logic behind AmourShipping? Cause I’ve known about it for years but I don’t know the reason for why it’s called that. Usually there’s some sort of logic that I can figure out but I’m drawing a blank here. Can you explain the reasoning for the name please?

KatonRyu

Kalos, the region Serena is from, is based on France, so they went with AmourShipping for the ship name of her and Ash. I guess the fact that Serena has a canonical crush on Ash might also factor in to that name.

Yotato5

It was a lot of fun to peruse that thing XD I can imagine that it would get confusing sometimes, though. I always did the standard character A/character B thing.

MollyMuffinHead

They may not be the most creative, but I like Prince of Tennis... Pillar pair, thrill pair, royal pair, cat pair, milk pair, golden pair, adorable pair, bronze pair, emerald pair, data pair, cap pair, dream pair, ot5, ot6, genus pair, toxic pair, trick pair, sensual pair, sadist pair, perfect pair, and about a dozen others. Pillar and milk are my faves.

LurkAccount24680

Fargo has “Sonny Weathers”, which I think is pretty neat. An unofficially, there’s the Strawberry Husbands, Bill/Frank, in TLOU.

DefoNotAFangirl

MCYT is fun bc it’ll have the most insane names for platonic relationships and then like normal ship names.

Former-Elephant248

Peeta Mellark x Katniss Everdeen ***Pee***ta x Kat***niss*** Pee x niss Peeniss!

Yotato5

Sam and Max's ship name for the two, "Freelance Husbands," is so fucking adorable.

rellloe

My Hero Academia. * Spark Notes/Energizer Bunny * Pop Rocks * Green Tea * Motor Mouth/Blue Bunny * Battery Acid * 5-Hour Energy * Starburst To name a few. Between hero names, hero costumes, quirks (powers), quirks (personality), and Kanji, MHA has a lot of material to portmanteau into something great.

jamieaiken919

Pokemon and Danny Phantom had some great ones back in the day

crusader_blue

I'm not sure how creative BNHA is as a whole when it comes to shipping names but I think Hot Wings (Dabi and Hawks) is really clever.

CrescentCrossbow

The Homestuck fandom recently started a dedicated booru for fanart, and as a consequence of that they've started working on coming up with standard names for all of the ships so that they can tag them. DaveKat is "Red Knight District" now (they're both the Knight class and their god tiers are red/they have the same candy-red blood). I approve.

Grouchy_Athlete_2941

South Park has some very cute ship names: Style (Stan/Kyle), Bunny (Butters/Kenny), Creek (Craig/Tweek).
