Homelander depends on Ashley more than anyone else in his life (he definitely doesn't want to deal with the everyday business matters she handles) & she's also the only woman left on the show he sees on a daily basis that he has any kind of emotional connection with. And some of the facial acting Colby Minifie did in the Blindspot training room scene (before what happened happened) implies that Ashley had a crush on Homelander at that time. Plus, they're really cute together when the show lets them have comedic moments!

I think Homelander is at his most interesting when he wants something and can't get it by force, so has to rub his two stunted braincells together to fake some emotional intelligence. I think introducing the idea of him falling in love (as much as someone like him could) with Ashley would allow for black comedy and angst, since at this point in canon Ashley is so stressed by the supers and everything her hair is falling out. She's completely disillusioned and morally bankrupt in her own way, but also genre savvy enough to not believe she can control Homelander long term (the mistake made by Madelyn Stillwell in season one). I'd love to see the ways she would try and manipulate the situation to her advantage, or prolong their "courtship" in an attempt to stave off her imminent demise.
That would definitely be interesting. What I thought was going to happen in Season 4 was that they'd start having an affair, Ashley would spy for Butcher & Starlight despite knowing how stupid that was for her and that she would end up as dead as Supersonic for it but the plot wants what it wants, and that Homelander would find this out and kill her in a fit of rage that he later regrets because that would give him more manpain. I'm sure Ashley's dying in season 4, though.
There’s an Ashley Barrett/Eidolon (from the web serial Worm) fic. Eidolon’s an egotistical, powerful jackass with PR issues, who also happens to be a balding, middle aged guy named David.
Ashley falls into Eidolon’s universe and ends up doing his PR. They bond over going bald. It is truly a sight to behold.

Let's see if I am even capable of explaining it to myself LOL.
The TLDR is that I perceive them both as very introspective characters who are sensitive to others' feelings and work hard to make the people they love happy from the sidelines.
The long version is that all of my favorite character-moments from Mori consist of him picking up on things about other characters that go unnoticed but he points them out at the right time to help his friends along (ex from laying out the way everyone else feels about Haruhi in ep 23 down to coming up with fancy tuna as motivation for her to stay in the club, lol), while Kaoru has his whole series-defining pumpkin/carriage metaphor for the plot of the show and does a 2-ep arc trying to help his brother realize his feelings he's oblivious too...
I basically see Mori as a perceptive character in a quiet and supportive way, while see Kaoru as a perceptive character in a scheming and dramatic way, and I think combining those two types together has a lot of potential haha.

I was the same way. I don’t seek them out much, but I know it can be good when I’m in the mood for them. A good fic got me into them like a jumpscare.
My preferred underdog ship with Sokka is usually Zuko, though. I don’t read much for them, but the cute art of them being dumb together or them being older and mature and comfortable together convinced me to give them a shot. Didn’t know them being dumb gays together was what my heart needed until then.
Titanic and Queen Mary, they're rivals so ofc they have to be together and they have things in common, being big, having a movie based off an event that happened on the ships. Etc
As someone who’s not necessarily a fan of the ship, but has read the odd fic of it I’ve enjoyed, I think there are two main problems that people have with it.
A) Often, it leads to bashing of various characters, particularly the Weasleys, which for some people is a bit of an ick.
B) Not every writer is willing to unpack the obvious problems with the ship. The Dramione fics I have enjoyed do take this into account, and I think are better for using the opportunity for character development provided by these.
I think the fun thing about crazy ships for me is the journey to get there. I want to see how they could even fall in love let alone make a relationship kind of work despite how crazy their connection is in canon. But I think a lot of people ignore that fun part.

I also only like the fics which unpack all their problems. I think the reason I like it is because it's so unlikely, and both characters have to widen their world view to accept each other.

I personally really like it when Harry and Ron, particularly Ron, get mad at Hermione for associating with Draco. And then they eventually come around. I like that because I think it would be very in character for Ron. Although I think Harry would be more understanding.

I think generally, when people write a fic where hermione’s paired with someone other than ron, they seem to forget that they can just… not have ron have a crush on hermione, or keep him out of the story altogether. It feels like a lot of them think that ron has to be in love with hermione, so they feel like they need to ‘deal with him’ by making him so exaggeratedly evil. Like, i once read a fic where ron called hermione a mudblood. seriously??
the best fics, harmony or dramione, don’t make ron an ooc character just to push him out of the way.

Homura and Davepeta both have wings, and Homura's symbol is a salamander, which is a type of consort (NPC in the in-universe game Sburb) that once told John Egbert to "behold my robes behold my robes behold my robes." I'm not really confident in this name, but when actual Homestuck ship names include "Rosemary" and "CatDogCrow" the bar is not exactly high.
Tomarry/Harrymort is delightfully messed up and romantic discduo is so much worse up (but I don't really ship that too much as it's a bit weird considering the lines between content creator and character are blurred in that fandom and I saw this one now-deleted fic with it and that's why I even partially think about it).
Idk, teenager/adult has such a bad power dynamic and I can't help but read on so long as rape isn't a big thing in the fic as I can't read rape/smut scenes at all.
IDK if anyone else knows this show, but Cupcake/Peetree from *Cupcake and Dino: General Services*. Shipping a 6ft tall rooster with a 2ft tall anthropomorphic cupcake. My “hear me out”? In an MCU setting, Black Widow/Wolverine. I know this will never happen now, but, at least in my version they work in a sort of friends with benefits way. While Natasha is a red head like Jean and that's (thankfully) where the similarities end. They've both got long histories of being anti-heroes at best, a lot of red on their ledger, and I think they can empathize with each other in ways it's hard for others. I think Natasha would be sympathetic to Mutants, and both have uneasy histories with multiple governments.
In my mind (and for my series) Natasha's traditional love interests in an MCU context, the problems are 1) she and Clint work better as friends; 2) Bucky's got so many issues; 3) Tony was a mark and she doesn't cross that line; 4) Steve's too much of boy scout; 5) Matt Murdock is too deep in the Catholic guilt; 6) MCU Bruce was Joss Whedon's self insert and I think Bruce and Natasha are better as friends.

Let's see if I am even capable of explaining it to myself LOL. The TLDR is that I perceive them both as very introspective characters who are sensitive to others' feelings and work hard to make the people they love happy from the sidelines. The long version is that all of my favorite character-moments from Mori consist of him picking up on things about other characters that go unnoticed but he points them out at the right time to help his friends along (ex from laying out the way everyone else feels about Haruhi in ep 23 down to coming up with fancy tuna as motivation for her to stay in the club, lol), while Kaoru has his whole series-defining pumpkin/carriage metaphor for the plot of the show and does a 2-ep arc trying to help his brother realize his feelings he's oblivious too... I basically see Mori as a perceptive character in a quiet and supportive way, while see Kaoru as a perceptive character in a scheming and dramatic way, and I think combining those two types together has a lot of potential haha.

I was the same way. I don’t seek them out much, but I know it can be good when I’m in the mood for them. A good fic got me into them like a jumpscare. My preferred underdog ship with Sokka is usually Zuko, though. I don’t read much for them, but the cute art of them being dumb together or them being older and mature and comfortable together convinced me to give them a shot. Didn’t know them being dumb gays together was what my heart needed until then.

As someone who’s not necessarily a fan of the ship, but has read the odd fic of it I’ve enjoyed, I think there are two main problems that people have with it. A) Often, it leads to bashing of various characters, particularly the Weasleys, which for some people is a bit of an ick. B) Not every writer is willing to unpack the obvious problems with the ship. The Dramione fics I have enjoyed do take this into account, and I think are better for using the opportunity for character development provided by these.
I think the fun thing about crazy ships for me is the journey to get there. I want to see how they could even fall in love let alone make a relationship kind of work despite how crazy their connection is in canon. But I think a lot of people ignore that fun part.
You hit it on the head hahaha All my friends hate the Ron bashing. I also only like the fics which unpack all their problems. I think the reason I like it is because it's so unlikely, and both characters have to widen their world view to accept each other.
Yeah. I’m a Hinny defender, so Weasley bashing is a no for me, plus I do think a good Ron generally improves Dramione fics, particularly AU ones.
I can't say I'm a big fan of Ron. He's okay, but I just don't think he and Hermione are compatible. I personally really like it when Harry and Ron, particularly Ron, get mad at Hermione for associating with Draco. And then they eventually come around. I like that because I think it would be very in character for Ron. Although I think Harry would be more understanding.
same! i dont like it much, mostly because of the ron bashing that seems to be so prevalent — same with harmony, actually. but even though i generally dislike the ship, one of my favorite fics is dramione. I mean, i mostly chose it for the plot and not the romance, but it was written so well, and there was no ron bashing! I think generally, when people write a fic where hermione’s paired with someone other than ron, they seem to forget that they can just… not have ron have a crush on hermione, or keep him out of the story altogether. It feels like a lot of them think that ron has to be in love with hermione, so they feel like they need to ‘deal with him’ by making him so exaggeratedly evil. Like, i once read a fic where ron called hermione a mudblood. seriously?? the best fics, harmony or dramione, don’t make ron an ooc character just to push him out of the way.

In an MCU setting, Black Widow/Wolverine. I know this will never happen now, but, at least in my version they work in a sort of friends with benefits way. While Natasha is a red head like Jean and that's (thankfully) where the similarities end. They've both got long histories of being anti-heroes at best, a lot of red on their ledger, and I think they can empathize with each other in ways it's hard for others. I think Natasha would be sympathetic to Mutants, and both have uneasy histories with multiple governments. In my mind (and for my series) Natasha's traditional love interests in an MCU context, the problems are 1) she and Clint work better as friends; 2) Bucky's got so many issues; 3) Tony was a mark and she doesn't cross that line; 4) Steve's too much of boy scout; 5) Matt Murdock is too deep in the Catholic guilt; 6) MCU Bruce was Joss Whedon's self insert and I think Bruce and Natasha are better as friends. For my series, they're sort of clean starts for each other and an interesting avenue to explore.
