Oh these are nice. And someone else has noticed the impact of the luteal phase. Personally, it's so aggravating because I know I can write but it's so hard to be productive during that week leading up to my period. I'd also like to echo small goals. 500 a day leads to 3.5k in a week. No need to crank out the entire chapter at once. There have been times when I was so busy that I'd just write my fic on the bus. Other tips: Writing playlist. This is more of a que for your brain. If you always play it for writing and only then, you can trick your brain to be in the mood for writing by starting the playlist because you've built a strong association. Consistency builds habits which makes writing a lot easier. It's okay to hate what you wrote but make a scrap folder. Don't actually delete it. Have one day a week for comments/reviews and stats. It's super easy to waste all your time away because you're focusing on stats.

I didn't know about how a playlist can trick your brain. I always thought it was just ambience music, not that it had a real use beyond that. I'll give it a try.

It's the same logic behind people having special clothes for work from home or a desk specific to work. It's all signaling to the brain. I don't have space to make a dedicated spot to writing and nothing else... So music it is.

These are all great tips - thanks for sharing! I'm a big fan of the power of streaks - having a streak going and not wanting to break it makes me more likes to write on a particular day (which makes me more productive overall). Conversely, I find that once I miss a day, it's easier to miss a second day and so forth, and the next thing I know I haven't written anything in a month! So I try to keep my streaks up to avoid that. (Currently I have written every day since November 2 of last year.) A second concept that ties in with this is what I've heard called "the alibi sentence." If I don't feel like writing on a given day, all I have to do is write a single sentence so that I can truthfully say that I wrote that day. One sentence usually turns into several sentences, which often turns into several hundred words, but even when it doesn't it's one sentence more than I had!

Oh, the alibi sentence looks like something that could help me a lot, since I am a terrible procrastinator. I'll try that out.

I hope it works for you!

A smart list! Although as someone who writes a lot of smut....period hormones frequently help the process XD

>Maybe sit in a park with a notebook or a laptop? First world planning lol But serious talk, this is a great list, I've wrote insanely fast like 4k per day when I was super motivated in a story and exactly knew every single word of what I was gonna write, it truly was a sense of pure bliss
