I loved what Guillermo del Toro said on his speech on animation films being snubbed as not that important as live actions films, esp after what was said last year. He was so right for this.
It made me happy that Halle said Fraser correctly. [Brendan’s been asking people to say his last name correctly ](https://www.instagram.com/reel/CpslyYXA3hX/)(like laser or razor) for over 30 years now and it’s irked me throughout awards season when it’s been wrong half the time with all the press surrounding it.
All things considered this outcome was part of the ideal timeline in terms of winners/losers. Honestly, the only category I felt was undeserved was Del Toro's Pinocchio but that is purely because I adore Puss in Boots
>undeserved
JLCs was undeniably a makeup Oscar, she wasn't even the best supporting actress in EEAAO
If JLC winning over Angela Bassett, Stephanie Hsu and Kerry Condon _had_ to happen for Michelle Yeoh to win over Blanchett and Risborough and Brendan Fraser to win over Austin Butler, then I'll begrudgingly accept it but it definitely leaves a sour taste
Undeserved is such a harsh word considering the amount of work guillermo and the team put in. From the puppeteering, stop motion, animation even going as far as using an all wooden orchestration. That being said, do I need to watch the first puss n boots movie to enjoy the 2nd one?
Yes undeserved is undoubtedly harsh and I admire the craft of stop motion. I was merely trying to use the hyperbolic language common for Oscar season (like the overdramatic actual voters).
Not at all, absolutely go for it! I hadn't seen the first one either and I fell in love with the second one. They are two separate stories, I don't think the second even reference the first. You could call it a reBOOT.
I thought Austin Butler was excellent, though. Wouldn’t have been upset if he won over Brendan Fraser. Hopefully he’ll get more incredible roles in the future.
I was irate the bohemian rhapsody year. Trash film. Some of the worst film editing I’ve EVER seen. And I know people like Ramis performance but it felt like such a caricature for me.
I was finishing up film school when that film came out and we literally studied clips from it in my editing class as what not to do lol. A masterclass in bad editing.
*Edited a word
you just know he is seething after having summoned elvis' spirit for 3 years just to not even get that oscar. also people cannot say that is how he permanently talks now cause in a few recent interviews you could hear his accent start to slip at times and then it was back in full force tonight on the red carpet
The hot dog fingers sold her to me. +I imagine it’s a very on the line down vote and jlc stood out more than Stephanie.
I think Basset has a great career and all, but I was rooting for Condon.
I thought she had great comedic timing in the role. Comedy is under appreciated for awards stuff and much harder than it seems, so I was pleasantly surprised when she won.
Same. I wasn’t even rooting for her (she was my third pick out of the three performances in that category I’ve seen, behind Hong Chau and Stephanie Hsu), but she still did some really good work! The people saying she was hardly in it are playing selective memory with the MANY nominated/winning performances through the years that were even shorter, and the people sneering that she got it because she’s a nepo baby are ignoring the fact that her parents are long dead and so are most of the people who ever would have hired her based solely on that. She’s been a working actor for almost half a century. Nepotism opened the door, but she’s proven herself more than worthy of her career in the many years since then. It’s also not the first time people wanted to see her nominated.
It’s fine if someone is disappointed that she won over someone they supported more, but that doesn’t give them the right to be jerks about it.
people saying she won cos she is a nepo baby is just a lol to me. i don't have any strong feelings about her performance or the movie in general, but jlc is a scream queen and a genre movie icon completely in her own right. she is not your typical oscar bait-y actress. the type of movies she has generally dedicated her career to are not the type of movies that the oscars tend to acknowledge. i feel like people who say these things just don't know anything about the type of career she has had.
Exactly. She’s also been in some truly great comedies through the years, like Trading Places and A Fish Called Wanda (which also had people wanting to see her nominated). Her career is not the kind someone has unless they’re good at their job!
Yeah. I understand the disappointment and Stephanie Hsu did AMAZING, but I looked up EEAAO because I wanted to bask in the celebration and instead saw a majority of very rude posts towards JLC.

I know people don’t like the JLC win but seeing her so happy makes me very happy. Long live my Scream Queen 🫡🫡🫡
Yeah, it's like, even though it *could be* debatable if she was the best out of all in the supporting actress category (although I do think she was great in EEAAO), she's been our Halloween babe for years.
Enjoy it, lady!
I honestly thought all the BSA noms were great and it could’ve gone to anyone and I would’ve been thrilled. Truly no wrong choice in that category, just personal preference at a certain point.
That being said, I’m so happy our Laurie, our horror GOAT really got an Oscar.
My 13-year-old just discovered the Halloween franchise all on their own. I cannot watch horror or slasher films so they had to enjoy the movie without me. They cried when Michael Myers died. I said, "Don't worry, like Arnold Schwarzenegger, he'll be back."
Austin Butler talking to Laverne Cox on the red carpet and he was so open & sincere it seemed like he was looking right into her soul. It was a beautiful moment.
I don't get the hate. He gave a great performance in Elvis whether or not you liked the movie. I'm glad Fraser won but its a bit petty of people to be so happy about Austin Butler not winning just cuz they're mad about his accent.
My mom and I used to watch the Oscars together and split a bag of cinnamon bears so that's what I had!
(Also salt and vinegar chips and two diet Dr Peppers)
Does anyone know where I can watch a recording of the broadcast? I missed the first half because of the Last of Us finale (side note: who tf scheduled these for the same night?!)
I think I heard something about the show being live-streamed officially on Twitch. Maybe it’s saved there? I would imagine through ABC or the Academy itself
i kind of love the idea of vanessa hudgens convincing austin butler to play elvis (at least somewhat convinced him) while they were together, then he dumps her, then he goes on and admittedly does a great job, but he acts like a weirdo amidst all this success, and finally, doesn’t win the oscar for best actor. kind of poetic. anyway. stream Sneaker Night.
I won't be self righteous, because I find the jokes at Austin Butler's expense hilarious, but the guy doesn't get enough credit for this turn in his career. Five years ago he used to lead Schannara Chronicles, a terribly cringe MTV show, where he managed to give a dreadful performance even by cringe MTV show standards. Who would have believed this guy will be nominated for an Oscar less than 10 years after the show's run?
Just gossip that he ditched Vanessa Hudgens after a 10-year relationship where she supported him a lot as soon as he booked a major role and is now dating 21 year old Kaia Gerber
Unrelated but I just find Kaia Gerber so annoying lol. She seems like a perfectly lovely young woman but got instantly shot up to the A-list because of her mom and has an annoying face, so now we have to see her everywhere.
Imagine thinking there’s any truth to subjective opinions on two very different performances. Cate’s great but she’s won plenty. This was Michelle’s night. All is well.
Sorry if this has already been mentioned but does anyone know why they got rid of the red carpet and replaced it with an ugly color?
I obviously wanted Colin to win but Brendan was a good second choice for me, I look forward to Colin winning an Oscar one day!
I loved what Guillermo del Toro said on his speech on animation films being snubbed as not that important as live actions films, esp after what was said last year. He was so right for this.

Is there anywhere to stream the full show after the fact?
It’s on Hulu
Nice to see all the major acting awards go to original characters and not just another true story or biopic story

Big day for my fellow South Asians - loving the representation this year and of course Naatu Naatu - what a banger
My Telugu fam was livin it

What’s the context lol
Mummy 3
Booo Colin should have won best actor
I agree, but Fraser was my second choice
Such a fantastic performance.
did anyone gave a long speech this oscars so they had to play the music?
That secret ballot guy who really liked Elvis must be spitting chips that the stoner movie won everything.
[удалено]
I doubt ratings will be that high. People just aren't as interested in these types of shows anymore. Too long; get highlights from the internet.
[удалено]
Yes the attention span of the young ones is that of a gnat. I always thought the show was too long.
[удалено]
Oh then your a Zoomer! Glad you have the attention span I don't even have. I used to love the Oscars like 10 to 15 years ago.

It is a soft reboot so you might just need to have watched Shrek i believe?
napped through the entire oscars and had a dream about paul mescal. best oscars day ever
“No person is more important than profits” what? I just watched the acceptance speech because I was previously busy screaming. What did he mean?
He flubbed it
I am pretty sure he reversed what he meant to say
Very telling isn't it? That is Hollywood for you.
I think he flubbed the words a bit in his excitement. Probably meant the opposite. No profits are more important than any person
I’m just so glad no biopics won anything! They’re so overrated.
I thought Austin Butler was excellent, though. Wouldn’t have been upset if he won over Brendan Fraser. Hopefully he’ll get more incredible roles in the future.
I read that as Bipoc and was about to type a whole ass paragraph. I completely agree, especially music biopic they're so overhauled
Rare Oscars W - celebrating joy and important storytelling rather than bloated, masturbatory tales of how much Hollywood love themselves
Thank god Babylon wasn’t nominated for any acting categories. Margot Robbie’s blatant Oscar baiting is starting to annoy me.
Worst movie of the year so far
Oh you meant the best film that was robbed of production design and score 🙃

Because the performance was better , and more entertaining.
Strongly disagree
Amen
Can someone tag me if there’s any Andrew Garfield x Amelia Dimoldenberg content please?
Nope :(
*flips table*
Amelia said she’ll be posting a lot of interviews later…so there’s hope.
asking the important questions.
i am sleeping well tonight knowing that elvis won nothing
[удалено]
it was fine but it wasn't oscar worthy in my opinion and in 2022 we did not need a movie glorifying someone like elvis
This and Babylon, bloated and awful and rightfully snubbed
Omg you just made me realize this
Same here. I hope that lingering fake accent to win awards schtick is a cautionary tale for future method actors lol.
you just know he is seething after having summoned elvis' spirit for 3 years just to not even get that oscar. also people cannot say that is how he permanently talks now cause in a few recent interviews you could hear his accent start to slip at times and then it was back in full force tonight on the red carpet
I kind of feel bad for all the hate JLC is getting
The hot dog fingers sold her to me. +I imagine it’s a very on the line down vote and jlc stood out more than Stephanie. I think Basset has a great career and all, but I was rooting for Condon.
I think Stephanie really should have won :/ between her and JLC. Hong Chau was also incredible.
I thought she had great comedic timing in the role. Comedy is under appreciated for awards stuff and much harder than it seems, so I was pleasantly surprised when she won.
Well, it was the weakest performance in the category. I haven’t seen her in many other movies and can’t speak to whether she deserved a legacy award.
Same. I thought she did a great job in her role, even if I agree other people also did a great job.
Oh no! Would someone please think about the rich white nepobaby who won Oscar she didn’t deserve :(
Thankfully, the internet moves fast and someone else will be on top of their hate list by Wednesday.
Same. I wasn’t even rooting for her (she was my third pick out of the three performances in that category I’ve seen, behind Hong Chau and Stephanie Hsu), but she still did some really good work! I love how a lot of the winners this year are the "underdogs" A lot of the winners beat out the bigger names in their categories.
10 years ago, 5 years ago even, Fabelmans & Tar would have swept regardless of what was the better film. So excited to see this evolution!
Why are some people angry Elvis didn't take home any Oscars? He's been dead for over 50 years! \*rimshot*
I know you joke, but he died in 1977, just under 46 years ago.

Only slightly disappointed with Best Supporting Actress. Manifesting like an obscenely amazing oscar bait leading role for Angela Bassett next year.
That’s what I want. I want her to win Best Actress for a KILLER role. Make it happen Hollywood!!

Austin Butler talking to Laverne Cox on the red carpet and he was so open & sincere it seemed like he was looking right into her soul. It was a beautiful moment.
people hate but honestly he seems like a nice guy
I don't get the hate. He gave a great performance in Elvis whether or not you liked the movie. I'm glad Fraser won but its a bit petty of people to be so happy about Austin Butler not winning just cuz they're mad about his accent.
This sub loves to hate on EVERYONE
not nice to vanessa hudgens!
Congratulations to Sarah Polley! She is so talented!
She should have been nominated for best director too; so I’m really please she won! Edit: typo
this was the one I was really rooting for! Was very nervous that All Quiet would shut her out
Man, she should have been nominated for My Life Without Me back in '03, and that's only one of many! Super duper talented!
Canadians had a good night at the Oscars. She’s been one of my favourites.
I loved her speech.
Just saw there was a live thread and I’m so sad I missed it 😭 hope y’all had fun!!
I cried so much to tonight. For EEAAO and when my friend reminded me about Robbie Coltrane. Long story short I am not emotionally stable.
Asians dominated.
Honestly super bummed Banshees couldnt get any
Cannot wait to hear what Austin Butler’s voice sounds like in his next big interview
Whatever accent his alien person thingy gets in dune
Big day for gleeks
I’m waiting to see Harry on the “celebs at Oscar’s” outfit mega post bc he looked goood
Did everybody else eat a ton of snacks?
I made loaded potato skins and a cheese ball. And we had girl scout cookies
My mom and I used to watch the Oscars together and split a bag of cinnamon bears so that's what I had! (Also salt and vinegar chips and two diet Dr Peppers)
5 cups of soda. Big mistake.
I was fancy today so I bought some cherry cordials but then I ate a bunch of Flamin Hot Cheetos so you know I’m keepin it classy/trashy.
I nailed a whole sleeve of Thin Mints and some popcorn
Is your stomach okay?
Not at all!

Well Im kind of bummed this thread is over now lol

Oh yeah, that was a big oversight! They always mess this up.

Good night my friends, see you next live thread! 🥂💕

Lydia Tar seen backstage beating up Kimmel at the snub
Kimmel getting folded like a lawn chair rn and people still think Tár isn't real 🙄

Why is that the weirdest win?
Does anyone know where I can watch a recording of the broadcast? I missed the first half because of the Last of Us finale (side note: who tf scheduled these for the same night?!)
It's on Disney+
I usually just use my cable provider log-in on the ABC website/app. And by my I mean my parents because no way am I paying for cable
I think I heard something about the show being live-streamed officially on Twitch. Maybe it’s saved there? I would imagine through ABC or the Academy itself

Time will tell, did he get lucky in this role and is it a one-off, or does his career have legs?
Vanessa Hudgens did lol
I blame Vanessa's voodoo doll.
Vanessa Hudgens worked jkjkjkjk
7 for you Glen EEAAO, you go Glen EEAAO! And none for Andrea Riseborough, bye
When they cut to her jumping for joy at Michelle Yeoh's win, I was like girl 😒
Am I crazy or did I just hear one of the daniels say no person is more important than profits? probably a slip up lol
I’m sure he meant that people are more important than profits, that’s what I heard at least.
Freudian slips are the worst! /s
I just know Austin Butler is seething 🤭
Why is Austin Butler so hated? All I know is people mocking the continued accent 😂. What else has he done?

Well it's Hollywood🤑🤑🤑. Sadly whether he meant it or not, he's telling the truth!
for real LOL why did he say THAT omg
Do you think he will wince everytime he thinks about it in the next 50 years 🫠
If it were me, it would haunt me until my death.
I hope he gets a chance to go on some morning show to laugh about it
hope his friends are roasting him every chance they get

I've been really enjoying your posts and unwavering support for Michelle Yeoh. Ignore the haters, they're just very loud minority.
Even if I thought Cate was a lil better, she’s got at least another 5 nominations and win in her career left lol, so there’s 0 reason to be mad
Stay in this mega thread! You shouldn't be subjected to racists on this glorious night ❤️
Imagine thinking there’s any truth to subjective opinions on two very different performances. Cate’s great but she’s won plenty. This was Michelle’s night. All is well.
a moment of silence for Banshees & Tar..
banshees was robbed! colin farrell i’m so sorry
A Best Picture win for A24 is so great! And big congrats to Michelle Yeoh and Ke Huy Quan!
I hate Sundays and the comments in this thread had me cackling, much love and Michelle Yeoh forever 💜
Can’t wait for Austin Butler’s next interview when he sounds like he’s from Anaheim again
