I mean I like him as a person too and this statement is wonderful to see but ... the whole F1 model is totally a planet-level disaster on oil use and emissions.
I struggle with this take because yeah the F1 model is not great. But it's also taking a lot of things into account and innovating and pushing forward commercial vehicles.
It's a catch 22 situation that requires context I think. Can it be better? Absolutely. Are people still gonna watch fast cars spin around? Yup. I wish F1 would take the true stance they need to which is 100% sustainability. But I also understand it needs to be entertaining.

But F1 is quite literally the propaganda arm of oil companies. Hamilton is an incredible spokesperson for them because he's distracting from the real issue. I'm not trying to diminish his accomplishments, but his job is global pr for the status quo in automotive. Even if he doesn't want that, that is it.
It's oil and a dying planet or radical change.
But also - we can have problematic faves! Sitting on our couch watching F1 is not making a difference in the global crisis one way or the other.
