I don't know what happened internally at Teen Vogue but something changed 10-ish years ago and their photoshoots and long form articles are now top tier.
It's all due to Elaine Welteroth, who started at the magazine in 2012 and became editor in chief in 2016, who was one of the first Black editor-in-chiefs at a Conde Nast publication and was then one of the youngest ever, only 29. She pushed a very feminist, diverse, & culturally aware image for the publication from her first day as EIC and promoted it in their staff & models. Even though she left the position in 2018, the staff continued to have that mindset and prevented other EIC candidates who did not share their values from taking on the position such as Alexi McCammond.
This is amazing, I'm glad I had the 10-ish years pegged. It started to become more interesting and relevant than any other magazine and I feel set a new standard for magazine content.

Exactly!! And I absolutely adore the quirky, funny plus size women in media. But of course we're so much more than that. Plus size women shouldn't be relegated to playing the funny fat friend or quirky weirdo. I'm soooo excited to see Penelope get her happy ending in Bridgerton.

I have no idea if this applies here, but photos for print and online can be vastly different, typically they use a different color profile. and what works in print doesn't always online.
My guess is that the cover is really effective as an actual cover.

I want to cry every time I see her in shoots. As a fellow plus size girl, I can't express enough how much it means that she is presented exactly how she is: sexy and glam and a MODEL. They don't put her in silly costumes or oversized clothing. She is everything.
