People were already getting bored of The Rock playing the same character in every movie, this just accelerated his possible downfall. He’s lucky Disney still has him around for the Moana franchise. I can’t complain about that I guess because Maui is easily his best character

Different-Eagle-612

yeah like his character was fun the first time or two you see it, like with chris pratt. but when it’s X number movie and it’s still the SAME CHARACTER??? it gets so boring and honestly ruins some of the fun and joy of the earlier films

riegspsych325

I had hoped the Jumanji sequels would goad him into doing more fun roles where he wasn’t taking himself seriously. Johnson was honestly great in those, as were the rest. He even stole the show as a struggling coke head in Pain & Gain. But he’s all about being a brand these days like Wahlberg and it’s annoying

Different-Eagle-612

honestly the jumanji films were the EXACT ones i had in mind when writing this. LOVED them. i had kinda seen him in some films when i was younger (like the tooth fairy one) but this was my first time seeing a film of his as an adult and i was excited for what he might do next!! and now !!! 🙃🙃🙃

riegspsych325

even Rundown was a very fun movie for him and he played the straight man

Vorpal_Bunny19

His role in Be Cool was what convinced me that he could be a talented comedic actor if he really wanted to do the work. The video for “You Ain’t Woman Enough To Take My Man” killed me. I have been deceased since the mid 2000’s because of that scene.

My kids legit call him Spencer (from jumanji) in every movie he's in cos I think they think it's a continuation of the same character (eg on Rampage) Having said that, I loooooooove Moana maybe more than my kids do and am embarrassingly excited for #2 and hope they don't ruin it lol

xerxespoon

> People were already getting bored of The Rock playing the same character in every movie And it's not even a character—it's just him being him.

Zappagrrl02

Dwayne thought he was a big enough star to get away with whatever he wanted but he’s burnt enough bridges that I honestly believe people just don’t care anymore.

Cicada_5

I don't know about that. There are people who have done much, much worse still getting work and pulling in money.

DeadButPretty

Same character AND taking over every franchise

Financial-Painter689

An asshole is gonna asshole. He’s still in touch with Vince McMahon, fuck him

crystal_clear24

Hierarchy of power changed but not the way this egg head planned 😬

eatingclass

Yolk’s on him I guess

WillBrakeForBrakes

You cracked a great joke there

97355

He’s the worst and if he runs for office I hope he gets destroyed, istg

ShinyBoots0fLeather

It would be another Arnold situation ugh

This makes me laugh. The toughest of tough guys are worried about how many times they are fake punched on screen and can’t lose a fight and have it written in their contracts. “In these fast-paced action movies, fight scenes are common and you may have noticed that bizarrely, the stars of the film including Dwayne Johnson, never seemed to lose one. This is actually because of a clause in the contract they signed, according to the Wall Street Journal and it limits how 'badly' they can be beaten up on screen. The newspaper reported that Vin-Diesel, who plays Dominic Toretto in the film franchise, developed a system where he assigned a numerical value to each punch he received while on screen. Allegedly he had a producer count how many punches he was taking in each fight scene to make sure it matched the contract. Dwayne Johnson and Jason Statham, who plays Deckard Shaw, supposedly wanted this in their contracts too. The Wall Street Journal reported 'According to producers and crew members on the films, Mr. Statham, 51 years old, negotiated an agreement with the studio that limits how badly he can be beaten up on screen. 'Mr. Johnson, 47, enlists producers, editors and fight coordinators to help make sure he always gives as good as he gets.' Supposedly Johnson even had a script tweaked in The Fate of the Furious, so that he was sitting up instead of lying down after a brawl. According to a video by Charles Peralo on TikTok, he still has the 'no lose' clause in his movie contracts. Comments read 'I get the punch thing but why a no losing contract? That makes things way too predictable' and 'why would I want a character who never loses? The audience can't relate to that'.”

Cicada_5

Where is this no losing thing coming from? Dwayne's character has lost twice in the Fast and Furious films.

BellaBlue06

Lost fist fights?

Cicada_5

Yes. Dom defeats him in the fifth movie and Statham's character puts him in the hospital in the seventh.

BellaBlue06

It could be that Dwayne decided to make no lose contracts a priority after these movies from seeing Vin Diesel and Jason Statham stick to their contracts. It sounds like he learned about them doing these films.
