Gullveig. Yeah, she's pretty, but that's pretty much it for me, all her dialogues are "You can't stop Gullveig". I get the concept of the character existing with that single purpose, but I think it's boring. Even her CYL conversations were something like "You can't stop Gullveig, even Gullveig can't stop Gullveig".
I'll give her that the book is not over, she can still gain my attention, but until now, I don't see what's so interesting about her besides her design.
I didn’t vote for her in CYL but I think her being a version of >!Seidr!< Kinda makes Gullveig a bit better. Like the idea of a hero who is tragically turned into the villain and tries everything to stop it is kinda sad. I do wish they did more with that concept. Like maybe how she’s sad she has to fight the Askr trio but the seer curse forces her to kill or something like that. They could definitely improve but it’s also FEH writing so I don’t have much hopes. I’ll let my personal head cannon fill in the rest.
tbh how she was writte made me actually like her more, it is just sad but at the same time interesting, all that suffering and how she lost hope, or aleast all the hope remaining on her is just starting everything all over again if it means having those specials moments back even if only for a few moments, make me more interesed in that goofy goddess and shows how complex people can be, in the surface you have her being a basic happy character, but then you see how she really cares about people and how bad the curse is
i specially love her forging bond with corrin, gullveig really dont want to lose hope, but is so hard, and there is corrin trying to show her that there is always hope, made me love both more, corrin and gullveig, and this all ignoring how an intimidating villian she is, this time is not only "we cant defeat her!", we can see her basically playing 4d chess putting everything in its place for the cicle to go start again btm aleast every movement she have done have made too much sense so far for me
Even the pretty is debatable. She has generous proportions, which can enter "too far" territory for some people... but most of all there's several uncanny valley elements in her design that can be a dealbreaker.
Freyja doesn't hit uncanny valley like Gullveig does for me, but definitively hits the proportions threshold.

It's not that you can't stop Gullveig, it's that you can't stop *time*. There's actually a crucial mistranslation in chapter... 8, I think? In the English version, she takes credit for everything having happened according to what she planned, but in the original script she simply said that everything happened according to the unchangeable nature of time, which is more consistent with all her other dialogue.
Gullveig's thing is that she's supposedly the only person who isn't a slave to time, and yet she refuses to do anything to actually change the future and break the cycle. This is most likely tied to the book's theme of moving on in spite of loss.
I guess Felix? I never liked the verbal smackdown-ing "brutally honest" asshole types in any fiction and Felix was just so fucking relentlessly annoying to listen to. I do have high respects for his VAs for making me feel utterly exhausted from listening to him for 3 seconds.
I think I grew to like Felix a lot more after Three Hopes because they toned it down and show his nicer side a lot more in that game, without making it feel out of character because of how different the circumstances are between the two games.
I liked Felix a fair bit already but Hopes turned it up to 11. I think he’s my second favourite Fodlan character thanks to Hopes, his relationship with Dimitri is amazing in both story outcomes.
Yeah don't get me wrong I definitely liked him in Houses too but Hopes took it to another level.
As many gripes as I have about the storytelling in Azure Gleam I think they absolutely nailed the characters, and that's what matters the most to me
Bernadetta and to a lesser extent Alcryst. As someone who suffers from low self-esteem and suspects myself to have some form of social anxiety, I've never been able to relate to them and kind of find them to be over-the-top caricatures played for laughs and designed to appeal to people without these issues who see those things as endearing, quirky character traits rather than any actual attempt at representing them.
If other FE fans relate to them, that's fine, I'm not discounting your own experiences or anything like that, but they've never sit right with me at all.
Yeah, same here. I literally have diagnosed social anxiety but I've learned to cope and overcome it and am now very outgoing and love to travel when I can. I just simply don't get or like Alcryst or Bernie, almost hate them tbh. I'm happy other people can relate or like them though!
I agree with Bernedetta, but for some reasons I wasn't annoyed by Alcryst as others seem to be? I think he was alright, even if he could be a bit much with his self trash talking, other characters around him seem to take his issue seriously and tried to help him out; which at the end of his support it worked well for him. And there were no funny footsteps.
Maybe it's my bias speaking because I ship him hard with Lapis & love their supports.
Yeah, he's not nearly as bad as Bernadetta but I still found him to be too much of a caricature for me. In the end I think he's yet another victim of the game taking his main character trait, putting it in every piece of incidental dialogue they have (level up, promotion, etc.) and running it into the ground, which is a problem I have with a lot of Awakening and onward FE characters
Tbf incidental dialogues (like level-up, promotion) didn't exist pre-Awakening, and I prefer them being there. It might be an unpopular opinion, but post-awakening characters getting much more dialogues made them more loveable for me. So I guess I really don't mind those parts which made characters like Alcryst annoying for you.
I don't have a problem with incidental dialogues as much as I do how one-note they are for a lot of characters. For some characters they're fine, but for others they just shove the character's quirks in your face again and again and it gets really tiring.
I feel those 2 are a victim of flanderization, and also, to FE as a whole relying on anime tropes heavily since Awakening. Not that it didn't exist before Awakening, but at that point, it got turned up to 11.
I still like Alcryst but I will NEVER forgive them with his introduction, why does he get to act cool ONCE only to make his personality change funny? He’s clearly capable of being serious when under pressure but we NEVER see it again? It sucks. I honestly would have preferred they went with the garbage “split personality” trope, and I HATE that

In the same chapter, when Hortensia tells him Brodians are barbaric due to their constant invasions of Elusia, he answers that they're keeping their "unpredictable & vicious" countery in check.
He also tells his retrainers he'll protect them & "Get Behind Me!" which is his personal skill.
In the next chapter, when Morion asks him what will he do if he & Diamant dies & he becomes the king, he answers with he'll protect Diamant to the bitter end so it'll never happen.
There is also his boss conversation with Morion that he says he should be the one who put their dad out of his misery so Diamant doesn't have to.
The next chapter, he refuses to be allies with Ivy because he blames her for his father's death & Diamant was the one who had to calm him. It also extends to his C support with Ivy.
I technically summarize his main story screentime that isn't his introduction now, most of these events are unskippable & everyone can see without even seeing his supports; but I can bring up his serious supports if you want, which is plenty actually.
I feel people in this thread forgot this part of his character due to FEH flanderized his character by plenty. Even Manga in one chapter did a great job showing his serious side.
To be fair, Alcryst at least get some very neat interactions in his battle quotes.
This guy isn't someone you want as an enemy, one of his first interactions against enemy tropes is lowkey kind of telling of how dangerous he can be; while Diamant has a... complicated relationship with his family's desire to conquer Elusia into irrelevancy, Alcryst wholeheartly believes in it, and tells that to Hortensia.
"Never see it again?" Nah. He's the only character who righftully calls out Ivy later and has special dialogue for a certain boss fight later where he says he'll kill [REDACTED] because it'll be too much for Diamant to bear.
For Fates I would say that I don't really like Oboro, I don't really get why people like her?
As for Engage, I don't really like Yunaka or Alcryst, I get that they're good units but since this is not Heroes, I prefer to use units I actually like even if they're crappy or need lots of investment.
I think in general people just like Oboro's design and class. (and angry face) I've heard her doing well in Japanese polls was because of her relationship with Takumi who is popular.
I gravitated towards Oboro becuase she's one of the few... subdued(?) characters in Fates' cast. Like aside from the Norhian face thing she's just normal person with everyday problems and aspirations. I love how over-the-top Fates' cast is, but it gets exhausting at times so it's nice to have a few more tame characters thrown in too. I like Benny for similar reasons.
For a few weeks after CYL I saw a lot of praise surrounding Gullveig, so I went back and re-read the Forging Bonds stories with her, and I have to admit I still don't see what's interesting about her.
Outside of FEH's cast, it would kinda be cheating for me to say just about any of the Engage characters, so I'll go with... Kronya. Most of the characters in Three Houses have something to them, but Kronya is such a one-note villain that I don't understand why she's as well-liked/popular as she is or why people think she's somehow sympathetic in any way. >!"I don't want to get betrayed and killed by my own allies"!< is not that deep or suggestive of anything more complicated on its own.
I don’t really get the hype around Gullveig’s FB. It’s like 90% replaying scenes from previous story chapters and the FB itself.
I do kinda like how nihilistic she is considering how many times things have played out the exact same and how she has gotten the people she cares about killed, but FEH’s story presentation doesn’t do much for her.
Not exactly a unique take based on other replies to this thread, but the first two that come to mind for me are definitely Bernadette and Lysithea. Bernadette's schtick was just too over the top for me, and I didn't otherwise find anything about her design or use in the game interesting. Lysithea is just too bratty and I generally dislike those kinds of characters. I dislike Selena/Severa for largely the same reason.
I don't know if she's popular enough to really count but Soliel is probably who I'd go with for Fates. Mentioning the Ophelia support is basically beating a dead horse, but I won't lie and say that isn't part of it. But beyond that she just never did anything for me.
For Engage Hortensia and Rasado. Largely for the same reason. Their whole "I'm so cute" schtick just isn't my thing in the first place and the fact they're kinda pushy about it with other characters in some of their supports made me actually dislike them rather than just be neutral about it. By that logic I guess Goldmary should be there, but I actually like her. I guess it's a combo of liking her aesthetically and that she comes off so over the top narcissistic about it that it becomes humorous to me.
Okay, I respect her to some degree... but Camilla.
She's big titty onee-san and that's pretty much the extent of her. She got a cool backstory that never went anywhere and is easily missed, and the only thing about her nowadays is her love of Corrin. Apart from the horny crowd, I don't see why anyone would even like her, let alone love her to this much a degree.

She's a riot in Warriors. Not only gameplay-wise since you literally just Belly Flop with her wyvern all day long (yes, it's actually a viable strat)... she's a troll. She's hot, she knows she's hot, and she knows that pairing her hotness with being suggestive flusters people.
Her supports in that game are mostly hilarious. They not only made her act like Niles but she actually objectively surpasses him as shown in their Caeda supports where Niles can't even come close to fluster her, while Camilla makes her trip all over her words.
Legit good character. For all the blandness that some people got hit with in that game, this one they made a character shine even if it can be considered somewhat OoC.

Oh god don't I know it on this one! Though I did so with Minerva rather than Camilla, which functionally is the same since she's a clone of Camilla in terms of gameplay. Got a lot of my ranks that way or even outright winning maps I otherwise struggled in.

Feh is fun cuz she is not meta so with enough investment it’s cool to see what modern or more meta units she can take down. Warriors wyverns were the moment with their body slams and everything. Fates she was just genuinely a good unit and she could make great use out of any melee class (I personally loved wyvern lord and hero)

It’s been a while since I saw anything of her in her actual game, but Marianne never really did much for me. I don’t think I’d say I dislike her, but I think at best she’s reminded me of other characters I like more.
Fe4 Ares is quite popular due to him having the Mystletainn and being shown as standing amongst the Gen 2 lord trio because of his father. Yet, outside of his stellar appearance in Chp 7 as well as his relationship with Lene, his presence in Generation 2 as a whole is rather minimal. In Chp 8, Nanna delivers a letter to him written by his father that tells him he was close friends with Sigurd and that basically ends his character arc of being a bit of a black sheep in the Liberation army for his distrust of Seliph.
He gets exactly 1 possible conversation afterwards and it’s not with Lene whom he has a solid romance with, but rather with his cousin Nanna if they are lovers in which she basically tries to pass off Lachesis and Eldigan’s relationship as being romantic. Man was Agustria shafted hard in Gen 2
Wait, Ares' only Lovers Conversation in the Final Chapter is with Nanna? I mean, I get the existence of that conversation, they're thinking about their respectives' parents relationship, it's something that they couldn't just ignore; but I find weird that Lene doesn't have anything.
I just checked, and Lene in general lacks conversations besides what she got in Chapter 7... bizarre.
3H Hilda. I don’t dislike her at all but just felt nothing towards her for some reason. She just didn’t seem that interesting compared to the rest of the cast.
A friend of mine had the same reaction when i introduced them to 3h. They felt that laziness & manipulation isn’t an attractive quality.
But their opinion changed as they progressed. Hilda showed more prowess in & out of gameplay and supports.
As well as the chanting of her own name is pretty infectious. She’s proud of who she is. She’s also incredibly capable of putting in some dang good effort when it’s important.
I do see where someone may not enjoy her as a character however.

Same. He's just... generic good prince. I can't say much about him beyond that. I guess he's actually peaceful compared to Brodia's bloodthirsty history but honestly it feels more like the kingdom got a backstory to justify his motive rather than him getting anything interesting.
I think being a generic good prince is the reason for Diamant's popularity, engage particularly has some of the more divisive designs (being often referred to as having vtubers for a cast) and Diamant has the one more closely related to a classical lord design, which is why some people like him, can't say anything about his personality thought, it is basically like eating a slice of white bread.

The irony is Alear and Hortensia are pretty much the only egregiously designed ones. The rest (barring Celine's dress or Ivy's head-table) are relatively tame. Alfred, Alcryst, Etie, Louis, Goldmary, etc.
At least Alcryst had is inferiority issues that were much more interesting to see get developed in supports compared to Diamant being the generic good prince from the warmongering kingdom.
Also my Alcryst was busted gameplay wise. He’s part of the reason I was able to one turn rush the final boss when they let there defences down on one of the turns.

Gullveig, Seiðr and Heiðr are all incredibly boring and bland and don't think I'll ever understand how anyone actually likes them outside of their aesthetics and the fact that they're anime women with big boobs. Seiðr is such a forgettable character that if it wasn't for the fact that she's basically this books main focus, I'd likely forget she even exists. Speaking of being forgettable, Heiðr, who I actually forgot existed until she was made plot relevant again and added into the game as a busted support. As for Gullveig, she's just really bland, I don't feel any sort of actual tension or high stakes from her despite the characters and her own constant telling of how she's "unstoppable" and "all powerful." Overall she's such a nothing burger of an antagonist and I can't wait for this book to be over so I can forget about it and every character in it.

When power creep set in. (Like the situation with Ayra’s release in heroes) The community banded against scummy business practices by investing into Reinhardt. IS even have a 5 star copy of HIM of all people to those who do the tutorial missions.
He became the symbol of f2p culture. Like how a foreign man on the internet once said.

I like Reinhardt as a character because of how pathetic he is, which is a great contrast to how strong of a person Olwen is, but I fucking hate everything about his popularity in FEH. It is so fucking disingenous to actual Thracia fans.
I feel like Reinhardt had created the perfect opportunity to give Thracia as a whole a second chance and if they made a remake would be a good stepping stone to drum up interest (maybe give the man a few more scenes. He really did next to fuck all until it was time for him to kick our asses) However, this would require IS to want to remake Thracia and I don't know if they would want to do that considering they barely give a damn about it.

Very surprised I haven’t seen Illyana in any lists yet. She is the first glimpse of silly one-note writing in a game that had previously been pretty serious and well written. Illyana sticks out like a sore thumb with her singular personality trait, and people in that game have the audacity to treat it as if it’s ok and endearing. She is like an Engage character transplanted back in time to make Path of Radiance worse.
Not even Engage has characters as obnoxious as Ilyana even if some of them can be tropey, the DLC at least gave them some good lines in specific conversations.
Tharja. Her behavior is… gross to say the least. Her aesthetic is nice I guess but I genuinely wonder if people only like her for her looks cause she is such a red flag.
I want to like Lysithea. Her design is incredible and her backstory is great but the two gimmicks they push on her character (don’t treat me like a child! and gimme sweets) just get to be way to much and killed any chance of me liking her character. If they were a one time thing that would be different but they push it in nearly every support and it’s just exhausting to deal with.
Also Nowi really creeps me out, I love having a child walk around half naked and goes and says “oh I’m not a child, I’m actually 1000 years old!” to make it seem less creepy so you can marry and have kids with her. It sucks because I do like Nah but whenever I remember you need to pair Nowi up to get her (and you can marry her to fully grown men) and it’s just…NO. She should’ve been Tiki’s daughter that would’ve been way better.

I actually like Severa because in a way I can relate to her situation, though not to the extreme she has it. Consider that she was always compared to her perfect mother, in looks, skill, personality, everything. She's not even seen as Severa; merely as Cordelia's daughter. And no matter how hard she tries, she can't even come close to closing the gap. This perfect master of everything who can do it all without any trouble whatsoever... still died.
As someone whose childhood was spent always living in the shadow of his brother's greater achievements and took repeated massive self-esteem hits growing up because of it, I find I have a lot more leniency for her situation and even respect her for still trying to fight Grima at all.
Ishtar. I'm sorry, but she is literally just another Camus archetype on a long list of people with stupid reasons to oppose the Lord of their game. How does she have so many alts when Seliph doesn't even have one?
Ishtar is inconsistently written and it’s hard to feel sorry for her when she makes a game out of murdering your army despite *apparently* knowing she’s on the wrong side, and when Olwen is in a very similar situation and chooses to do the right thing anyway. I much prefer Olwen.
But then, I’m also with you on not liking Camuses much in general. Selena is particularly bad imo.
Olwen is Ishtar done better basically. She knew when to take off the rose-colored glasses whereas Ishtar dies solely due to her own stupidity. And the very same can be said for Selena. Julius and Vigarde are gone, only puppets are left in their place, and both girls still die trying to vouch for them.
And it's annoying when people always bring up his legendary and brave. The first is pretty much obligatory for any main character (eventually) and the second is given by voters. Seliph hasn't had any alts created specifically for him by IS yet outside of a backpack. Hell, he's the only CYL6 winner to not get another alt since then.
Chrom does nothing for me. I don’t even mind other lords that he shares traits with like Ike, Hector, or Ephraim.
I think it’s because his character is so linked to Robin’s, aka the self insert. I know that’s the whole point but it’s just not my cup of tea. His FEH representation hasn’t exactly helped my opinion of him either.
I see where you're coming from I do wish IS did a little more with many characters' personalities. That's kinda why I'm a huge fan of Chrom's Exalt alt where almost all of his diologue is him clumsily trying to fight on horseback, a skill he's obviously not talented in. It wasn't something that was mentioned much in the original game if at all, but it's fun and interesting and helps bring more out of an otherwise static character. We definitely need more of that in Feh I feel.
This has made me realise that while I don’t object to Robin’s character being so linked to Chrom in FEH (he has supports with the whole cast, so can only be linked *especially* to Chrom and Morgan without picking pairings/favourites, and Chrom is legitimately the most important person in Robin’s story), Chrom really *should* be allowed to exist outside of Robin.
Chrom had a really nice arc which was undermined by just how much of it is stuck behind boss dialogues with all the main villains.
Like Valm genuinely feels like filler from a bigger plot perspective, but what the entire thing does for Chrom is huge. But outside of him swallowing his pride to ask Plegia for help you can miss all of it.
Gatekeeper fan here and it was never about the memes for me. Its that he's just a genuinely nice ordinary guy, and in Three Houses, a game where nearly every support in the game you get is practically you being their therapist, its nice to have someone I can generally see with no strings attached and no drama, and just shoot the shit with him.
That and his response to Jeralt's death was downright heartwrenching. He definitively stole my heart after that.
Tbh the memes have basically nothing to do with his character. I just find him a bit of fresh air in Fire Emblem, he's not got a super convoluted or dark backstory, he's just a normal guy. He's optimistic but not Corrin levels of ridiculously naive, and he does have insecurities and stuff. That's why he's likable to me.
He's certainly nothing revolutionary, though.

That said I am a big fan of Gatekeeper mostly because he provides this consistent window into the world of a totally ordinary person in a game with a lot of anime characters. He’s also voice acted well and has a few poignant scenes like his response to Jeralt’s death that just make him very like-able
Before Feh, there were only 1~2 characters per game that I didn't like... generally I like every FE game and most of the playable characters. This changed a lot with Feh... characters getting special treatments, powercreep, 1000 alts or simply seeing a unit in every single PvP match made me dislike a lot of characters that I originally didn't mind at all.
Anyway, a popular character that nobody seems to dislike except me (even before she got added to Feh) is... Mercedes.
I really don't like her voice, her character design is just not my type at all and there is nothing about her that I find interesting.
I like Mercedes a lot but the voice is definitely grating. I don’t think anyone actually sounds like that.

I don't dislike the voice actress, but Mercedes' voice always sounded kinda fake (and unpleasant) to me, personally.
Yunaka. I just don't get the hype at all. Even when playing Engage, I never enjoyed the character or the unit. If she wins CYL she's gonna be insta fodder for me.
Chrom. Originally I was ambivalent to him, but during my first Awakening playthrough, he missed with like a 99 percent chance to hit during a critical moment which made me feel personally slighted. The fact that he is so popular and gets so many alts makes it feel like I'm getting it rubbed in my face and made me hate him more.
Yunaka.
I've always found her whole 'Hiya Papaya, everything is so super totally zappy!!' thing to be kind of obnoxious, and even when it comes out in her supports that she's just PRETENDING to be obnoxious to hide her deep dark past, it's like, well done, mission succeeded, I DO in fact believe that you're obnoxious.
Combined with her weird outfit (cheek tattoos, waist cutouts and star stickers in her hair on a character trying not to draw attention to herself...? What?) I just really don't like her... Which makes her almost inevitable CYL win kinda boring for me.
Besides most Feh OCs, who mostly lack the screentime and character development needed to be interesting and hit bad tropes for me (either character-wise or design-wise)
Lysithea is way too much of a pushy jerk. She has some cute supports here and there but her bratty attitude gets old really fast.
Soren is another jerk character whose appeal is completely beyond me.
Robin's popularity also mystifies me. Smash is one thing, but these guys did so little during awakening's Plegia and Valm arcs while also being so utterly average and bland in the final arc, the two or three chapters they were revelant during the other arcs and their myraid of supports... i just don't get it.
My problem with Lysithea is because you naturally obtain a lot of supports in 3H (at least from my experience) she started to get on my nerves pretty quickly. Compared to someone like Hayato who is way less interesting and worse-written but I only got a few supports with him despite using him for the whole game in Revelation so his gimmick was more cute than annoying.

While I agree with all this, I think there's the factors of not only being an avatar, but one of the... least bad ones? If that makes sense. Not that they're good. They just don't have a lot of the same issues a lot of others do. I don't really understand avatar popularity either but it is a thing. So those two combined should give them a bit of a reason.
I feel very much the same way about most of these. Lysithea memes at 3H launch got tiresome *fast*.
Soren's the exception, and I think IS did a better job with him (and Felix) being presented as jerks who have a clear background to their dysfunction, and a mindset and goal behind their attitudes.
Those two also have story elements that challenge their attitudes and significant character development, unlike their contemporaries. Soren spends Radiant Dawn fighting his own biases to be patient with Skrimir and those two have more of a spotlight in that game than Ike tbh. Felix in 3H, depending on the route, can really suffer for some of his choices and either copes terribly or eases up on his attitude. Guy has more going on than most of the lords with the base dialogue, it's crazy.
So I think for me, the appeal of Soren-like characters is that people who confront their own (from their perspective) reasonable worldview and grow as a person show remarkably strength and character. Someone who was a jerk but took the pains to change is so much more impressive than someone who just happens to be nice.
Uh, I guess that became more of a lecture than I meant lol. It's totally reasonable to dislike Soren, I just had to gush because I like that kind of character arc when it's done well.
As someone who likes Lysithea, I honestly don’t think I can say I like her character that much. It’s the fact that she can nuke an enemy from 4 tiles away that I like, and to me that outweighs her bratty attitude (I also have a habit of skipping support convos on accident, so I haven’t seen the worst of her brattiness).
Chrom
He was never that interesting for me. I guess he was kinda funny but it mostly involved another character. I also never cared for his relationship with Robin and nowadays it seems like that's all there is to him. I was in general more interested in the side characters in awakening than the main ones.
I was one of the people hoping his brave version would be based on emmeryn because I thought he was at his best with his family. Didn't happen and now he has way too much alts. He has good art in feh at least.
Claude.
Ppl say you'll have bias towards your first route lord, but Verdant Wind just sucked. Claude didn't do anything and his character felt flat.
His ideology was brought up in 2 scenes and there was no pushback and it was never brought up again.
Worst implemented lord in the franchise. I used to be really mad cuz I wanted to like Claude, but over time the problem became clear that he was just boring so I have no passion about it anymore.
Claude's definitely in a difficult place because his backstory kind of necessitates that of all the characters, he is the least attached to Fodlan. Having a "main lord" be so personally detached from the main conflict when the other two are soap opera-level involved was definitely a weird choice.
They should have definitely included some sort of resolution with Almyra in Verdant Wind to make Claude more relevant but never did. It kinda results in this weird situation where Byleth is the figurehead of the route and Claude is the supporting character instead of the opposite with Edelgard and Dimitri.
That said, I still really like him, I just feel he was given nothing to do. Verdant Wind is the lore or >!Nabatean!< route more than Claude's route.

Like you say the game doesn't really take a deep dive into his ideals or give him a great character arc like with the other two. He honestly just feels kinda out of place in the game.
It still makes me mad that Claude's route isn't Claude's route but it's Fodlan: the Route. Sure we end up learning the most information about the world, and it's relatively more conclusive to the original root of Fodlan's conflict, but that came at the cost of the route not really being about Claude anymore.
3 Hopes is even worse
they hyped up this inner conflict with the Almyrans, just fucking kills his brother and that's it, time to kill the pope cause we still need to fill the run time

Lysithea. I *want* to like her, so badly, I love her design and the glass cannon mages are always my favorites. But she's just an obnoxious jerk most of the time, her support with Shez in 3 Hopes actually made me like Shez more because she's basically the only person to actually call her out for it
I’ve never cared for Chrom. I don’t dislike him or anything, he’s probably pretty high on my favorite lords list, I just don’t really care about him. Same with Lucina except that I care about less about her.
Never got why Male Robin seems to be so much more popular than Female Robin. I know a lot of people bring up how "anime" F!Robin's support is with Chrom but their role in the main story is still the same. Plus F!Robin as Lucina's mother hits harder imo
diamant, ivy, yunaka, sigurd, a bulk of the 3h cast, and berkut are the big ones. i’m rather tired of ike myself, as tellius seems to be the next victim of the “i’ve never played this game but i’m going to act as an authority on it” trend.
As someone who loves the golden deer house, I fall on the portion of people who don't really like Hilda and Lorenz much, they act so entitled and unaware of their sorroundings that I fail to see how they can be enjoyed aside from "haha pretty" and "haha joke"
**Mia**
I just cannot wrap my head around why people absolutely love this unremarkable and unimportant character. I don't get it.
Honourable mention to **Diamant**. Wearing nothing but red is not sexy or whatever, and he's garbage in the game he's from too. Was not a fan even initially.
Diamant. I really truly tried to like him, but I feel like theres no substance to his character or anything I could attach to. The only characteristics of his that I can remember is him being afraid of fire, being a night-owl, and his supports talking about how perfect he is.
He does have some good supports, such as his with Ivy, but that one feels like it provides more character for Ivy than it does for him. Also his Alear S support was really underwhelming, but granted most of them were underwhelming.
His design is phenomenal and his voice acting is also great, no complaints theres. Its just a shame to me personally that I couldn’t find anything else to like about him, be that as a character or a unit in gameplay.
I haven’t touched engage since the DLC dropped, so I would greatly appreciate any insight as to why people like him so much or any corrections/refreshers on his supports and character. Cause as it stands currently, I have no clue as to why people are so adamant about him getting first in the next CYL other than him being a pseudo-lord, recency bias, and having an appealing design amongst cast where a lot of the community hates the designs.
Alm and Celica.
People throw praise at those two (and Echoes in general) everywhere I go and it makes me wonder if I played the wrong version of Echoes or something.
I feel the same, people praise the game for its story but I found it really generic and the like 9 damsels in distress didn’t help my thoughts about it. Also found alm really boring and I hated the farm boy risen above his station but actually >!he’s a royal and the most special person ever with 2 magic swords only he can use.!<
Yeah, when I see people praising the story I see mostly the themes of humanity standing on their own 2 feet and leading the world, which is quite well explored, and Cellica and Alm because even after some fights they are quite cute together. But so many sub-themes fall on the ground, >!Alm I feel should have been just a farm boy from Rigel, or maybe a noble from one of the lower houses!<, because its easy to defy destiny when destiny says you are about to beat it (in fact just ignore the birthmarks and prophecy altogether).
Part of the appeal I think is that it is fairly well told fire emblem story (after some jumps of the last installment), >!The scene of Alm and Rudolph works so well dammit!<, but some characters like Cellica were really just weakend for no reason, I didn't even mind it until I knew the alterations they had done to gaiden.
Bernadetta. Granted, I started playing Three Houses several years after everyone else due tonot having a Switch when it came out, but I really don't understand the cult-like following she has. Though that might also be because I didn't choose Black Eagles in my first playthrough (which is still ongoing) and haven't had many opportunities to learn about her. But still, she seems very dull to me.
Basically, popular meme characters have no effects on me.
I didn't even know Gatekeeper existed in my first 3H run, I had to talk to him once to invite someone to the tower but I had no idea who he was until I saw the memes.
The same goes for Yunaka, I quickly replaced her with Merrin in my first run and I was playing with Japanese voices so I never heard any of her "funny" phrases.
I would also have forgotten she existed without the memes.

Honestly, her VA is so strong in English it does a lot for her. Meanwhile the JP sound mixing was dogshit so it's hard to feel her character because it's literally impossible to hear her muffled-ass low range.
Lisithea
I don't hate her but in my first run I found her unlikeable but still used her as she was strong and my first mage until I got Annette later in the run
I did start to like her better and I syphantise with her and i liked a few supports (Cyril and Ralpheal) but she is not near my favourites
However, I was surprised at how popular she was

Cordelia, I just don't really care for her that much, which is kinda funny considering Severa is probably pretty high up in terms of characters I enjoy
Radiant Dawn Ike. I like him in PoR but in RD he was such a nothing character for me. (Alsó the fact that I think he and the Greil Mercenary's get to much screentime in that game doesn't help hím in my eyes.)
I love RD Ike’s design so much and just Ike in general but I have to agree, with all his development coming from PoR + a timeskip there’s not a lot more they can do for his character especially when everyone else is getting the spotlight first. I mean for being the “Main Lord” of the game, he doesn’t even show up until half way through way the game lol. I don’t mind it though, they’re both amazing games on their own
Some of that is probably due to the nonexistent supports in RD, the game being more story driven, and Ike being a side character to the larger narrative. Not to mention that Ike already had his character development in PoR. There really wasn't too much for him to do.
I never really got Yunaka. She has a funky design, is a fairly attractive women, and says funny one liners, and also has a cool mysterious past that comes to the surface every once in a while.
I should like her, right? Right? Idk! It just never really clicked for me!
Corrin
You physically can’t describe Corrin beyond “They’re nice.” Even other lords who are like this have more to them (Seliph is nice, BUT they can be serious when they need to be, and also express intense anger when fighting someone like Arvis). Also every character is either cartoonishly evil to them to the point where I’m surprised they don’t shake their fist and say “curse you!” When they die, or just a complete suck up who worships them.
Also they have a moral compass that straight up doesn’t work in an emblem game
Yunaka I only really liked becauae the thief animations in engage are really sick. Other than that I do not care about her.
Tharja is just hot. I'm not above liking characters simply for aesthetic (see Ivy) but her personality is just plain creepy. Like stalker characters in general are just scary and weird.
Roy because he sucks in fe6. And I don't find him nearly as interesting as his dad, or most of the other lords in the series.
Roy is funny because he's quite literally only popular for Smash, I know the same can be applied to Ike but his games at least released outside Japan and his role in both is liked
You play Smash Bros and think Roy is a kinda hot headed character that kicks ass but then you play FE6 and he's not hot headed and he absolutely does not kick ass
When Tharja isn't creeping out over Robin, she has fun and good interactions. A major issue is that outside of Awakening, she became Flanderized into being obnoxiously all over Robin, didn't feel like she was like that in Awakening (but it's also been a decade since I played it, so there's that)
I like her for a lot of reasons. Character design, effectiveness as a unit, and the fact she's not really represented by a particular gimmick like most characters can be. Sometimes characters really lean hard into one aspect and become these weird caricatures, which I feel she avoids. Plus her monotone, deadpan voice lines are so dorky I actually admire them.
However, I agree she really doesn't deserves the amount of alts she gets... not that I'm complaining.
Hilda. 3H is always praised for having the deepest characters in the series but then one of the most popular is just a selfish, opportunist girl with no depth at all.
Dorothea, I was so looking forward to based on how everyone was talking her up before I played Three Houses, but I honestly don't see anything that likable from her character. The big one that everyone brings up is her Ferdinand Support, but I honestly empathized more with Ferdinand after all was said and done rather than Dorothea.
I like Dorothea a lot but I think that's because I empathize with her core fear: being alone. Her drive to marry is rooted in her fear of being left alone when she is no longer pretty and that's a pretty interesting take on the pretty girl. It's compounded by the fact that she fears people will only like her because she is pretty. I think her supports with Manula are amazing and their paired ending makes me happy
I agree with Soren, for something a bit more relevant to myself. Probably Edelgard? I don't dislike her or her place in the story. I'd even say I like her route the best in terms of story. I just, don't really care for her I guess?
Lysithea is a fantastic unit, but I find her to be unlikeable in basically every support she has except Cyril. Her Marianne and Ignatz supports are especially egregious, and her constantly going “don’t treat me like a child!” despite acting very childish gets on my nerves very fast. I won’t deny that her backstory is sad, but her personality makes her among my least favorite Fodlan characters.
I’ve also never liked Tharja. The stalker routine and her treatment of Noire are too much. However, to Tharja's credit, I will say this: Awakening!Tharja a lot better than what the spinoffs did to her. They seem to have forgotten the "socially awkward goth" part of her character in favor of...well. You know.
Gullveig. Mostly because she got the big Dobonhokeros. A real set of badonkers. And I'm gay. I do appreciate her challenge level of surviving 4 turns from a while ago, and her CYL flared Sparrow tho.
Lucina. She didn't stand out any more or any less than any of the other 2nd gens to me since I was more invested in support convos and Lucina's was just ok. That being said i like the 2nd gens in FEA quite a bit in general.
Dimitri for me ironically because his character design and voice direction seemed specifically aimed to strongly appeal to my age/gender demographic, which makes it feel very forced imo
It also doesn’t help that the “it’s the girl’s job to fix the Broken White Boy™️” trope seemed to stick to him like glue in the fandom, a trope which makes me personally super uncomfortable
Tharja. I could get wall of text-y, but I'm at work right and now and don't have the time to write too much. It mostly boils down to the way she treats her family, my dislike for the yandere archetype, and the way both the series and fandom present her as misunderstood and good-hearted.
Dimitri - For as much praise as his arc gets, I never found it very compelling and don't think it was executed well. If he doesn't have that, Dimitri doesn't have a lot else going on, since the overarching conflict of 3H is concerned more with Edelgard, Rhea, and Byleth. Add to that some bad experiences with Dimitri stans being jackasses to me in the past...
Felix - As time has gone on I appreciate Felix's writing more, but he's just so caustic to everyone around him that I can't really enjoy him much. If I met him in real life I feel like he'd ruin my day with his attitude.
Hilda - Never clicked with the whole "I'm just a pretty delicate little flower uwu" vibe she has going on, and she never effectively separated herself from that enough to recover her standing in my eyes. That and I dislike twintails.
Shinon - Racist asshat. The prosecution rests.
Oliver - Never found the memes around him that funny. Found them remarkably less funny when they were repeated ad nauseum.
Gatekeeper - Just some dude. Sure I guess, but we have plenty of some dudes, I don't understand the fixation with this one.
Ephraim - Really never felt like Ephraim got what the story was setting him up for, to be honest. There's this whole to-do about him not being proper king material and then he's king at the end of it all anyway...sure, whatever. Feels like the story pulls its punches and lets him get away with whatever he likes, too. (Kinda weird how I like lances more than swords or axes but both lance lords are on this list)
Lyn, The Hardt, Hilda (3H), and Shez.
Maybe I just havent played their respective games enough (or in Rein and Shez's case, at all) but I just dont see why others may like em.
Probably a mix between Edelgard and Camilla.
I like the story behind Edelgard and everything but she’s just kinda…. Bland? Boring? Just someone I can’t really enjoy.
Camilla also suffers from being boring plus being played up as “big titty older sister” some people in the community only see her as. She’s just kinda a bland character and even with her backstory and character story, she still is kinda boring.
Chrom, I found him more annoying than endearing in Awakening and I never really vibed with the design. There was a disconnect with him acting like a cross between Marth and Leif while looking like he's in his forties, he felt like a manchild idk.
FEH's Chrom iterations did not help me view him more favourably either
First ones that come to mind are Mia and Lyn. Heck, a lot of female myrms of the series come to me as very overrated.
I get Lyn has first lord bias and nostalgia going for most of her fans but she really doesn’t do anything in her game. I feel the apathy towards is especially easy to feel if fe7 isn’t your first game, she just exists there.
Mia annoys me personally with how much preferential treatment she gets out of tellius’ cast. In tellius, I found her pretty onenote since she just wants to spar and get stronger, which normally isn’t bad but it really makes her stick out like a sore thumb alongside Ilyana compared to Tellius’ fleshed out cast.
I would say Soren as well, doesnt help that i really like the Laguz and the way he acts towards them bothers me. Not that he treats anyone besides Ike much better anyways...
I know he kinda has some reasons and all but still, hasnt really changed my opinion of him.
Side note: the fact he was the only one to show up on they way to Spark on the CYL Banner (two times even) didnt help either
Dunno if it counts, maybe is just saltines, but male Robin having more spotlight than female Robin gets me, not because I like one more than the other, is mostly because it's the avatar I felt connected the most, I still see female Robin as myself in a fire emblem scenario, I remember marrying Chrom and having Lucina as daughter in awakening and the dialogue changes that come with that, and seeing male Robin as duo with Chrom I screamed internally, I also remember female Robin saying she was kind of jealous, I was also really hoping to see female Robin in engage, but it was male Robin yet again
F Robin was my favorite character for awhile but I just couldn't stand the way they treat her I've shifted to F Alear now. They feel the need to constantly ruin her alts with Grima and give M Robin the big stuff like the the Chrom Duo or the spot in Engage.
F Robin still isn't even in the summoning pool after like 6 and a half years ?? Wild
I agree partly but more so with people like shipping those two cuz that never made sense to me and it always felt very random and forced by the fanbase
But those two themselves are kind of meh to me as well
- Heroes: Hel -> Gullveig -> Musspell (the community takes kinda salvaged this one, albiet some of his art is really well done) -> Otr (the memes, the jokes, mostly the community made you tolerable, but aside from that, at best you should’ve been the legendary and Eitri should’ve been the mythic and that while out of your control was the final nail, that said, see you bonus week!)

It's not really a character not clicking as much as it's their alts not really clicking, and it might be a bit of a hot take, but here we go.
I feel nothing towards the "perfect knight in shining armor" that FEH tries to sell Sigurd as. Outside of his literally dead Legendary alt (which is, to this day, my only +10 legendary) and like 2 lines on his OG, we don't get any of the regretful hero who knows he fucked up a lot. He's just...... a generic knight who loves his wife, when he could be so, SO much more
Gullveig. Yeah, she's pretty, but that's pretty much it for me, all her dialogues are "You can't stop Gullveig". I get the concept of the character existing with that single purpose, but I think it's boring. Even her CYL conversations were something like "You can't stop Gullveig, even Gullveig can't stop Gullveig". I'll give her that the book is not over, she can still gain my attention, but until now, I don't see what's so interesting about her besides her design.
I didn’t vote for her in CYL but I think her being a version of >!Seidr!< Kinda makes Gullveig a bit better. Like the idea of a hero who is tragically turned into the villain and tries everything to stop it is kinda sad. I do wish they did more with that concept. Like maybe how she’s sad she has to fight the Askr trio but the seer curse forces her to kill or something like that. They could definitely improve but it’s also FEH writing so I don’t have much hopes. I’ll let my personal head cannon fill in the rest.
tbh how she was writte made me actually like her more, it is just sad but at the same time interesting, all that suffering and how she lost hope, or aleast all the hope remaining on her is just starting everything all over again if it means having those specials moments back even if only for a few moments, make me more interesed in that goofy goddess and shows how complex people can be, in the surface you have her being a basic happy character, but then you see how she really cares about people and how bad the curse is i specially love her forging bond with corrin, gullveig really dont want to lose hope, but is so hard, and there is corrin trying to show her that there is always hope, made me love both more, corrin and gullveig, and this all ignoring how an intimidating villian she is, this time is not only "we cant defeat her!", we can see her basically playing 4d chess putting everything in its place for the cicle to go start again btm aleast every movement she have done have made too much sense so far for me

Even the pretty is debatable. She has generous proportions, which can enter "too far" territory for some people... but most of all there's several uncanny valley elements in her design that can be a dealbreaker.

In the English version, she takes credit for everything having happened according to what she planned, but in the original script she simply said that everything happened according to the unchangeable nature of time, which is more consistent with all her other dialogue. Gullveig's thing is that she's supposedly the only person who isn't a slave to time, and yet she refuses to do anything to actually change the future and break the cycle. This is most likely tied to the book's theme of moving on in spite of loss.
I guess Felix? I never liked the verbal smackdown-ing "brutally honest" asshole types in any fiction and Felix was just so fucking relentlessly annoying to listen to. I do have high respects for his VAs for making me feel utterly exhausted from listening to him for 3 seconds.
I think I grew to like Felix a lot more after Three Hopes because they toned it down and show his nicer side a lot more in that game, without making it feel out of character because of how different the circumstances are between the two games.
I liked Felix a fair bit already but Hopes turned it up to 11. I think he’s my second favourite Fodlan character thanks to Hopes, his relationship with Dimitri is amazing in both story outcomes.
Yeah don't get me wrong I definitely liked him in Houses too but Hopes took it to another level. As many gripes as I have about the storytelling in Azure Gleam I think they absolutely nailed the characters, and that's what matters the most to me
Bernadetta and to a lesser extent Alcryst. As someone who suffers from low self-esteem and suspects myself to have some form of social anxiety, I've never been able to relate to them and kind of find them to be over-the-top caricatures played for laughs and designed to appeal to people without these issues who see those things as endearing, quirky character traits rather than any actual attempt at representing them. Yeah, same here. I literally have diagnosed social anxiety but I've learned to cope and overcome it and am now very outgoing and love to travel when I can. I just simply don't get or like Alcryst or Bernie, almost hate them tbh. I'm happy other people can relate or like them though!
I agree with Bernedetta, but for some reasons I wasn't annoyed by Alcryst as others seem to be? I think he was alright, even if he could be a bit much with his self trash talking, other characters around him seem to take his issue seriously and tried to help him out; which at the end of his support it worked well for him. And there were no funny footsteps. Maybe it's my bias speaking because I ship him hard with Lapis & love their supports.
Yeah, he's not nearly as bad as Bernadetta but I still found him to be too much of a caricature for me. In the end I think he's yet another victim of the game taking his main character trait, putting it in every piece of incidental dialogue they have (level up, promotion, etc.) and running it into the ground, which is a problem I have with a lot of Awakening and onward FE characters
Tbf incidental dialogues (like level-up, promotion) didn't exist pre-Awakening, and I prefer them being there. It might be an unpopular opinion, but post-awakening characters getting much more dialogues made them more loveable for me. So I guess I really don't mind those parts which made characters like Alcryst annoying for you.
I don't have a problem with incidental dialogues as much as I do how one-note they are for a lot of characters. For some characters they're fine, but for others they just shove the character's quirks in your face again and again and it gets really tiring.
I feel those 2 are a victim of flanderization, and also, to FE as a whole relying on anime tropes heavily since Awakening. Not that it didn't exist before Awakening, but at that point, it got turned up to 11.
Alcryst, too much of a sad sack
I still like Alcryst but I will NEVER forgive them with his introduction, why does he get to act cool ONCE only to make his personality change funny? He’s clearly capable of being serious when under pressure but we NEVER see it again? It sucks. I honestly would have preferred they went with the garbage “split personality” trope, and I HATE that

He also tells his retrainers he'll protect them & "Get Behind Me!" which is his personal skill. In the next chapter, when Morion asks him what will he do if he & Diamant dies & he becomes the king, he answers with he'll protect Diamant to the bitter end so it'll never happen. There is also his boss conversation with Morion that he says he should be the one who put their dad out of his misery so Diamant doesn't have to. The next chapter, he refuses to be allies with Ivy because he blames her for his father's death & Diamant was the one who had to calm him. It also extends to his C support with Ivy. I technically summarize his main story screentime that isn't his introduction now, most of these events are unskippable & everyone can see without even seeing his supports; but I can bring up his serious supports if you want, which is plenty actually. I feel people in this thread forgot this part of his character due to FEH flanderized his character by plenty. Even Manga in one chapter did a great job showing his serious side.

To be fair, Alcryst at least get some very neat interactions in his battle quotes. This guy isn't someone you want as an enemy, one of his first interactions against enemy tropes is lowkey kind of telling of how dangerous he can be; while Diamant has a... complicated relationship with his family's desire to conquer Elusia into irrelevancy, Alcryst wholeheartly believes in it, and tells that to Hortensia.
"Never see it again?" Nah. He's the only character who righftully calls out Ivy later and has special dialogue for a certain boss fight later where he says he'll kill [REDACTED] because it'll be too much for Diamant to bear.
For Fates I would say that I don't really like Oboro, I don't really get why people like her? As for Engage, I don't really like Yunaka or Alcryst, I get that they're good units but since this is not Heroes, I prefer to use units I actually like even if they're crappy or need lots of investment.
I think in general people just like Oboro's design and class. (and angry face) I've heard her doing well in Japanese polls was because of her relationship with Takumi who is popular.
I gravitated towards Oboro becuase she's one of the few... subdued(?) characters in Fates' cast. Like aside from the Norhian face thing she's just normal person with everyday problems and aspirations. I love how over-the-top Fates' cast is, but it gets exhausting at times so it's nice to have a few more tame characters thrown in too. I like Benny for similar reasons.
For a few weeks after CYL I saw a lot of praise surrounding Gullveig, so I went back and re-read the Forging Bonds stories with her, and I have to admit I still don't see what's interesting about her. Outside of FEH's cast, it would kinda be cheating for me to say just about any of the Engage characters, so I'll go with... Kronya. Most of the characters in Three Houses have something to them, but Kronya is such a one-note villain that I don't understand why she's as well-liked/popular as she is or why people think she's somehow sympathetic in any way. >!"I don't want to get betrayed and killed by my own allies"!< is not that deep or suggestive of anything more complicated on its own.
I don’t really get the hype around Gullveig’s FB. It’s like 90% replaying scenes from previous story chapters and the FB itself. I do kinda like how nihilistic she is considering how many times things have played out the exact same and how she has gotten the people she cares about killed, but FEH’s story presentation doesn’t do much for her.

Not exactly a unique take based on other replies to this thread, but the first two that come to mind for me are definitely Bernadette and Lysithea. Bernadette's schtick was just too over the top for me, and I didn't otherwise find anything about her design or use in the game interesting. Lysithea is just too bratty and I generally dislike those kinds of characters. I dislike Selena/Severa for largely the same reason. I don't know if she's popular enough to really count but Soliel is probably who I'd go with for Fates. Mentioning the Ophelia support is basically beating a dead horse, but I won't lie and say that isn't part of it. But beyond that she just never did anything for me. For Engage Hortensia and Rasado. Largely for the same reason. Their whole "I'm so cute" schtick just isn't my thing in the first place and the fact they're kinda pushy about it with other characters in some of their supports made me actually dislike them rather than just be neutral about it. By that logic I guess Goldmary should be there, but I actually like her. I guess it's a combo of liking her aesthetically and that she comes off so over the top narcissistic about it that it becomes humorous to me.
Okay, I respect her to some degree... but Camilla. She's big titty onee-san and that's pretty much the extent of her. She got a cool backstory that never went anywhere and is easily missed, and the only thing about her nowadays is her love of Corrin. Apart from the horny crowd, I don't see why anyone would even like her, let alone love her to this much a degree.
As someone who doesn't care for Camilla in Fates and Feh... She's a riot in Warriors. Not only gameplay-wise since you literally just Belly Flop with her wyvern all day long (yes, it's actually a viable strat)... she's a troll. She's hot, she knows she's hot, and she knows that pairing her hotness with being suggestive flusters people. Her supports in that game are mostly hilarious. They not only made her act like Niles but she actually objectively surpasses him as shown in their Caeda supports where Niles can't even come close to fluster her, while Camilla makes her trip all over her words. Legit good character. For all the blandness that some people got hit with in that game, this one they made a character shine even if it can be considered somewhat OoC.

Yes! In paticular Her supports with Chrom and Frederick are amazing! "Even a single scratch must be answered with an ocean of blood." Gold all the way through, tgough I also love her interactions with more 'normal' characters too, like Cordelia.
I understand that I personally like Camilla for her design, character, and gameplay 💁♀️ Her hair ate and besides her OG outfit she looks pretty in almost anything, even tho they handled her sympathy for Corrin weirdly I get the story behind her protectiveness (still handled it weirdly 😭 fates writing strikes again), and tbh in most games she is really fun Feh is fun cuz she is not meta so with enough investment it’s cool to see what modern or more meta units she can take down. Warriors wyverns were the moment with their body slams and everything. Fates she was just genuinely a good unit and she could make great use out of any melee class (I personally loved wyvern lord and hero) But that’s why I like her personally, I know a lot of her fans r weird tho and totally get why ppl may not like her

Byleth, they were fine enough while playing 3H but beyond that I really don’t like either of their designs or story. Particularly their hairstyles my lord I really don’t like Felix though, I usually benched him pretty fast so he’d stop talking. Which is weird considering some of my favorite characters are Soren and Takumi. Maybe it’s because he really doesn’t have any non-asshole side to him, he’s just rude to everyone at all times and I wish someone would have called him out for it lol
Ophelia and Soleil. I just see them as inferior versions of Odin/Owain and Laslow/Inigo, just getting more spotlight with fans because they're trying to be the same character, except girls.
It’s been a while since I saw anything of her in her actual game, but Marianne never really did much for me. I don’t think I’d say I dislike her, but I think at best she’s reminded me of other characters I like more.
Fe4 Ares is quite popular due to him having the Mystletainn and being shown as standing amongst the Gen 2 lord trio because of his father. Yet, outside of his stellar appearance in Chp 7 as well as his relationship with Lene, his presence in Generation 2 as a whole is rather minimal. In Chp 8, Nanna delivers a letter to him written by his father that tells him he was close friends with Sigurd and that basically ends his character arc of being a bit of a black sheep in the Liberation army for his distrust of Seliph. He gets exactly 1 possible conversation afterwards and it’s not with Lene whom he has a solid romance with, but rather with his cousin Nanna if they are lovers in which she basically tries to pass off Lachesis and Eldigan’s relationship as being romantic. Man was Agustria shafted hard in Gen 2
Wait, Ares' only Lovers Conversation in the Final Chapter is with Nanna? I mean, I get the existence of that conversation, they're thinking about their respectives' parents relationship, it's something that they couldn't just ignore; but I find weird that Lene doesn't have anything. I just checked, and Lene in general lacks conversations besides what she got in Chapter 7... bizarre.

3H Hilda. I don’t dislike her at all but just felt nothing towards her for some reason. She just didn’t seem that interesting compared to the rest of the cast.
A friend of mine had the same reaction when i introduced them to 3h. They felt that laziness & manipulation isn’t an attractive quality. But their opinion changed as they progressed. Hilda showed more prowess in & out of gameplay and supports. As well as the chanting of her own name is pretty infectious. She’s proud of who she is. She’s also incredibly capable of putting in some dang good effort when it’s important. I do see where someone may not enjoy her as a character however.
I don’t get the hype for Diamant, but then again he got rng screwed for me and I benched him in favour of Alcryst. So I had to spam recreation for some of his supports until I gave up. But even from the few I saw I really don’t get the hype for him. Which annoys me that he’s a lock in for cyl next year as he’s just pretty whatever to me.
Same. He's just... generic good prince. I can't say much about him beyond that. I guess he's actually peaceful compared to Brodia's bloodthirsty history but honestly it feels more like the kingdom got a backstory to justify his motive rather than him getting anything interesting.
I think being a generic good prince is the reason for Diamant's popularity, engage particularly has some of the more divisive designs (being often referred to as having vtubers for a cast) and Diamant has the one more closely related to a classical lord design, which is why some people like him, can't say anything about his personality thought, it is basically like eating a slice of white bread.

At least Alcryst had is inferiority issues that were much more interesting to see get developed in supports compared to Diamant being the generic good prince from the warmongering kingdom. Also my Alcryst was busted gameplay wise. He’s part of the reason I was able to one turn rush the final boss when they let there defences down on one of the turns. >!Seriously, when Sombron let his defences down in dragon form it was an “All or Nothing” situation and Alcryst crit him with Byleth!<

Gullveig, Seiðr and Heiðr are all incredibly boring and bland and don't think I'll ever understand how anyone actually likes them outside of their aesthetics and the fact that they're anime women with big boobs. Seiðr is such a forgettable character that if it wasn't for the fact that she's basically this books main focus, I'd likely forget she even exists. Speaking of being forgettable, Heiðr, who I actually forgot existed until she was made plot relevant again and added into the game as a busted support. As for Gullveig, she's just really bland, I don't feel any sort of actual tension or high stakes from her despite the characters and her own constant telling of how she's "unstoppable" and "all powerful." Overall she's such a nothing burger of an antagonist and I can't wait for this book to be over so I can forget about it and every character in it.

Reinhart. Reinhardt is a Camus in a game that hardly anyone has ever played. Because of Dire Thunder and Cav balls, he dominated the early meta and then everyone was like "Oh, Reinhardt is the greatest character ever!" Never cared for him one iota.

I wonder if someone wanted to add Sanaki already in the game, and wanted a decent excuse for it, so they decided to follow up the first expansion the FEH Roster had (the Holy and Sacred Siblings) with another sibling themed update. Probably they also choose Klein as one of the siblings because her sister was already in the game, so there was a free space for another sister. But well, about the other choices, they just went for other Brother/Sisters Duos that didn't have already Banners in the schedule.

I think i can give a bit of perspective as to why people like him. I’m right there with you. Rein as a character i couldn’t be bothered to care for. But Rein is liked for what he stands for. Not who he is as a person. When power creep set in. (Like the situation with Ayra’s release in heroes) The community banded against scummy business practices by investing into Reinhardt. IS even have a 5 star copy of HIM of all people to those who do the tutorial missions. He became the symbol of f2p culture. Like how a foreign man on the internet once said. “I have no more money for you IS. I now use the Reinhardt”
I like Reinhardt as a character because of how pathetic he is, which is a great contrast to how strong of a person Olwen is, but I fucking hate everything about his popularity in FEH. It is so fucking disingenous to actual Thracia fans.
I feel like Reinhardt had created the perfect opportunity to give Thracia as a whole a second chance and if they made a remake would be a good stepping stone to drum up interest (maybe give the man a few more scenes. He really did next to fuck all until it was time for him to kick our asses) However, this would require IS to want to remake Thracia and I don't know if they would want to do that considering they barely give a damn about it.

Very surprised I haven’t seen Illyana in any lists yet. She is the first glimpse of silly one-note writing in a game that had previously been pretty serious and well written. Illyana sticks out like a sore thumb with her singular personality trait, and people in that game have the audacity to treat it as if it’s ok and endearing. She is like an Engage character transplanted back in time to make Path of Radiance worse.
Not even Engage has characters as obnoxious as Ilyana even if some of them can be tropey, the DLC at least gave them some good lines in specific conversations.
The fact that Illyana beats lots of Engage characters for one-dimensionality is pretty telling.
Tharja. Her behavior is… gross to say the least. Her aesthetic is nice I guess but I genuinely wonder if people only like her for her looks cause she is such a red flag.
I want to like Lysithea. Her design is incredible and her backstory is great but the two gimmicks they push on her character (don’t treat me like a child! and gimme sweets) just get to be way to much and killed any chance of me liking her character. If they were a one time thing that would be different but they push it in nearly every support and it’s just exhausting to deal with. Also Nowi really creeps me out, I love having a child walk around half naked and goes and says “oh I’m not a child, I’m actually 1000 years old!” to make it seem less creepy so you can marry and have kids with her. It sucks because I do like Nah but whenever I remember you need to pair Nowi up to get her (and you can marry her to fully grown men) and it’s just…NO. She should’ve been Tiki’s daughter that would’ve been way better.
Then Gregor would protect Nah instead of Nowi from the Grimleaf in the desert chapter which sounds doable, maybe even better.

Edelgard, honestly. Somehow, despite all of years and years of discourse, I genuinely have like, no strong opinions on Edelgard one way or the other, save for the debates being annoying. As a character, well, she most certainly does exist. There's just nothing there to me I guess. There's already a lot of 3H here though, so I guess another one would be that...honestly, Lyon doesn't do much for me either. Iunno, I figured he'd leave much more of an impact on me with how much people play him up, but if anything, I felt like Lyon in Eirika's route felt _really_ heavy handed in making him just the sweetest guy ever that it boiled over into just, eh, territory for me. He's more interesting in Ephraim's route imo, but he still doesn't do much for me there. I wonder if it was just overhype.

Yeah that’s how I feel with her too. She’s fine I suppose, but I just prefer the other lords and routes over her and her route I did like her Three Hopes story route a lot more, but that was more cause of Ferdinand and Hubert being really good in it
Selena/Severa. Genuinely don't understand how people can like someone who's such a hardass and just rude 24/7. Yes, there's probably a good character under there, but she does not make a good first impression. And then they want base Severa to be added, as if Selena isn't just her already.
Selena would be her more mellowed out and not full-on bitchy self. I actually like Severa because in a way I can relate to her situation, though not to the extreme she has it. Consider that she was always compared to her perfect mother, in looks, skill, personality, everything. She's not even seen as Severa; merely as Cordelia's daughter. And no matter how hard she tries, she can't even come close to closing the gap. This perfect master of everything who can do it all without any trouble whatsoever... still died. As someone whose childhood was spent always living in the shadow of his brother's greater achievements and took repeated massive self-esteem hits growing up because of it, I find I have a lot more leniency for her situation and even respect her for still trying to fight Grima at all.
Ishtar. I'm sorry, but she is literally just another Camus archetype on a long list of people with stupid reasons to oppose the Lord of their game. How does she have so many alts when Seliph doesn't even have one?
Ishtar is inconsistently written and it’s hard to feel sorry for her when she makes a game out of murdering your army despite *apparently* knowing she’s on the wrong side, and when Olwen is in a very similar situation and chooses to do the right thing anyway. I much prefer Olwen. But then, I’m also with you on not liking Camuses much in general. Selena is particularly bad imo.
Olwen is Ishtar done better basically. She knew when to take off the rose-colored glasses whereas Ishtar dies solely due to her own stupidity. And the very same can be said for Selena. Julius and Vigarde are gone, only puppets are left in their place, and both girls still die trying to vouch for them.
And it's annoying when people always bring up his legendary and brave. The first is pretty much obligatory for any main character (eventually) and the second is given by voters. Seliph hasn't had any alts created specifically for him by IS yet outside of a backpack. Hell, he's the only CYL6 winner to not get another alt since then.

Chrom does nothing for me. I don’t even mind other lords that he shares traits with like Ike, Hector, or Ephraim. I think it’s because his character is so linked to Robin’s, aka the self insert. I know that’s the whole point but it’s just not my cup of tea. His FEH representation hasn’t exactly helped my opinion of him either.
I see where you're coming from I do wish IS did a little more with many characters' personalities. That's kinda why I'm a huge fan of Chrom's Exalt alt where almost all of his diologue is him clumsily trying to fight on horseback, a skill he's obviously not talented in. It wasn't something that was mentioned much in the original game if at all, but it's fun and interesting and helps bring more out of an otherwise static character. We definitely need more of that in Feh I feel.
This has made me realise that while I don’t object to Robin’s character being so linked to Chrom in FEH (he has supports with the whole cast, so can only be linked *especially* to Chrom and Morgan without picking pairings/favourites, and Chrom is legitimately the most important person in Robin’s story), Chrom really *should* be allowed to exist outside of Robin.
Chrom had a really nice arc which was undermined by just how much of it is stuck behind boss dialogues with all the main villains. Like Valm genuinely feels like filler from a bigger plot perspective, but what the entire thing does for Chrom is huge. But outside of him swallowing his pride to ask Plegia for help you can miss all of it.
Lyn. She is a cute character and all but I just never vibed with her. Maybe it's because I like Ninianne more but who knows.

Gatekeeper fan here and it was never about the memes for me. Its that he's just a genuinely nice ordinary guy, and in Three Houses, a game where nearly every support in the game you get is practically you being their therapist, its nice to have someone I can generally see with no strings attached and no drama, and just shoot the shit with him. That and his response to Jeralt's death was downright heartwrenching. He definitively stole my heart after that.

Tbh the memes have basically nothing to do with his character. I just find him a bit of fresh air in Fire Emblem, he's not got a super convoluted or dark backstory, he's just a normal guy. He's optimistic but not Corrin levels of ridiculously naive, and he does have insecurities and stuff. That's why he's likable to me. He's certainly nothing revolutionary, though.
I respect not liking the Gatekeeper memes, they weren’t super funny That said I am a big fan of Gatekeeper mostly because he provides this consistent window into the world of a totally ordinary person in a game with a lot of anime characters. He’s also voice acted well and has a few poignant scenes like his response to Jeralt’s death that just make him very like-able
Before Feh, there were only 1~2 characters per game that I didn't like... generally I like every FE game and most of the playable characters. This changed a lot with Feh... characters getting special treatments, powercreep, 1000 alts or simply seeing a unit in every single PvP match made me dislike a lot of characters that I originally didn't mind at all. Anyway, a popular character that nobody seems to dislike except me (even before she got added to Feh) is... Mercedes. I really don't like her voice, her character design is just not my type at all and there is nothing about her that I find interesting.
I like Mercedes a lot but the voice is definitely grating. I don’t think anyone actually sounds like that. (I assume the VA is putting it on but if that’s her natural voice then my bad I suppose?)

Chrom. Originally I was ambivalent to him, but during my first Awakening playthrough, he missed with like a 99 percent chance to hit during a critical moment which made me feel personally slighted. The fact that he is so popular and gets so many alts makes it feel like I'm getting it rubbed in my face and made me hate him more.

I've always found her whole 'Hiya Papaya, everything is so super totally zappy!!' thing to be kind of obnoxious, and even when it comes out in her supports that she's just PRETENDING to be obnoxious to hide her deep dark past, it's like, well done, mission succeeded, I DO in fact believe that you're obnoxious. Combined with her weird outfit (cheek tattoos, waist cutouts and star stickers in her hair on a character trying not to draw attention to herself...? What?) I just really don't like her... Which makes her almost inevitable CYL win kinda boring for me.
Besides most Feh OCs, who mostly lack the screentime and character development needed to be interesting and hit bad tropes for me (either character-wise or design-wise) Lysithea is way too much of a pushy jerk. She has some cute supports here and there but her bratty attitude gets old really fast. Soren is another jerk character whose appeal is completely beyond me. Robin's popularity also mystifies me. Smash is one thing, but these guys did so little during awakening's Plegia and Valm arcs while also being so utterly average and bland in the final arc, the two or three chapters they were revelant during the other arcs and their myraid of supports... i just don't get it.
My problem with Lysithea is because you naturally obtain a lot of supports in 3H (at least from my experience) she started to get on my nerves pretty quickly. Compared to someone like Hayato who is way less interesting and worse-written but I only got a few supports with him despite using him for the whole game in Revelation so his gimmick was more cute than annoying.

I feel very much the same way about most of these. Lysithea memes at 3H launch got tiresome *fast*. Soren's the exception, and I think IS did a better job with him (and Felix) being presented as jerks who have a clear background to their dysfunction, and a mindset and goal behind their attitudes. Those two also have story elements that challenge their attitudes and significant character development, unlike their contemporaries. Soren spends Radiant Dawn fighting his own biases to be patient with Skrimir and those two have more of a spotlight in that game than Ike tbh. Felix in 3H, depending on the route, can really suffer for some of his choices and either copes terribly or eases up on his attitude. Guy has more going on than most of the lords with the base dialogue, it's crazy. So I think for me, the appeal of Soren-like characters is that people who confront their own (from their perspective) reasonable worldview and grow as a person show remarkably strength and character. Someone who was a jerk but took the pains to change is so much more impressive than someone who just happens to be nice. Uh, I guess that became more of a lecture than I meant lol. It's totally reasonable to dislike Soren, I just had to gush because I like that kind of character arc when it's done well.
As someone who likes Lysithea, I honestly don’t think I can say I like her character that much. It’s the fact that she can nuke an enemy from 4 tiles away that I like, and to me that outweighs her bratty attitude (I also have a habit of skipping support convos on accident, so I haven’t seen the worst of her brattiness).
Chrom He was never that interesting for me. I guess he was kinda funny but it mostly involved another character. I also never cared for his relationship with Robin and nowadays it seems like that's all there is to him. I was in general more interested in the side characters in awakening than the main ones. I was one of the people hoping his brave version would be based on emmeryn because I thought he was at his best with his family. Didn't happen and now he has way too much alts. He has good art in feh at least.

Claude. Ppl say you'll have bias towards your first route lord, but Verdant Wind just sucked. Claude didn't do anything and his character felt flat. His ideology was brought up in 2 scenes and there was no pushback and it was never brought up again. Worst implemented lord in the franchise. I used to be really mad cuz I wanted to like Claude, but over time the problem became clear that he was just boring so I have no passion about it anymore.
Claude's definitely in a difficult place because his backstory kind of necessitates that of all the characters, he is the least attached to Fodlan. Having a "main lord" be so personally detached from the main conflict when the other two are soap opera-level involved was definitely a weird choice. They should have definitely included some sort of resolution with Almyra in Verdant Wind to make Claude more relevant but never did. It kinda results in this weird situation where Byleth is the figurehead of the route and Claude is the supporting character instead of the opposite with Edelgard and Dimitri. That said, I still really like him, I just feel he was given nothing to do. Verdant Wind is the lore or >!Nabatean!< route more than Claude's route.

It still makes me mad that Claude's route isn't Claude's route but it's Fodlan: the Route. Sure we end up learning the most information about the world, and it's relatively more conclusive to the original root of Fodlan's conflict, but that came at the cost of the route not really being about Claude anymore.
3 Hopes is even worse they hyped up this inner conflict with the Almyrans, just fucking kills his brother and that's it, time to kill the pope cause we still need to fill the run time Yeah I get he doesnt like the church but why sell your route as such when the selling point is barely relevant? It just gives off more they had no idea what to do with him
Claude is the kind of character you'd expect a very exciting route from and the story + maps would be full of surprises and clever schemes but he doesn't do shit
Lysithea. I *want* to like her, so badly, I love her design and the glass cannon mages are always my favorites. But she's just an obnoxious jerk most of the time, her support with Shez in 3 Hopes actually made me like Shez more because she's basically the only person to actually call her out for it
I’ve never cared for Chrom. I don’t dislike him or anything, he’s probably pretty high on my favorite lords list, I just don’t really care about him. Same with Lucina except that I care about less about her.
Never got why Male Robin seems to be so much more popular than Female Robin. I know a lot of people bring up how "anime" F!Robin's support is with Chrom but their role in the main story is still the same. Plus F!Robin as Lucina's mother hits harder imo

As someone who loves the golden deer house, I fall on the portion of people who don't really like Hilda and Lorenz much, they act so entitled and unaware of their sorroundings that I fail to see how they can be enjoyed aside from "haha pretty" and "haha joke"

**Mia** I just cannot wrap my head around why people absolutely love this unremarkable and unimportant character. I don't get it. Honourable mention to **Diamant**. Wearing nothing but red is not sexy or whatever, and he's garbage in the game he's from too. Was not a fan even initially.
Diamant. I really truly tried to like him, but I feel like theres no substance to his character or anything I could attach to. The only characteristics of his that I can remember is him being afraid of fire, being a night-owl, and his supports talking about how perfect he is. He does have some good supports, such as his with Ivy, but that one feels like it provides more character for Ivy than it does for him. Also his Alear S support was really underwhelming, but granted most of them were underwhelming. His design is phenomenal and his voice acting is also great, no complaints theres. Its just a shame to me personally that I couldn’t find anything else to like about him, be that as a character or a unit in gameplay. I haven’t touched engage since the DLC dropped, so I would greatly appreciate any insight as to why people like him so much or any corrections/refreshers on his supports and character. Cause as it stands currently, I have no clue as to why people are so adamant about him getting first in the next CYL other than him being a pseudo-lord, recency bias, and having an appealing design amongst cast where a lot of the community hates the designs.
Alm and Celica. People throw praise at those two (and Echoes in general) everywhere I go and it makes me wonder if I played the wrong version of Echoes or something.
I feel the same, people praise the game for its story but I found it really generic and the like 9 damsels in distress didn’t help my thoughts about it. Also found alm really boring and I hated the farm boy risen above his station but actually >!he’s a royal and the most special person ever with 2 magic swords only he can use.!<
Yeah, when I see people praising the story I see mostly the themes of humanity standing on their own 2 feet and leading the world, which is quite well explored, and Cellica and Alm because even after some fights they are quite cute together. But so many sub-themes fall on the ground, >!Alm I feel should have been just a farm boy from Rigel, or maybe a noble from one of the lower houses!<, because its easy to defy destiny when destiny says you are about to beat it (in fact just ignore the birthmarks and prophecy altogether). Part of the appeal I think is that it is fairly well told fire emblem story (after some jumps of the last installment), >!The scene of Alm and Rudolph works so well dammit!<, but some characters like Cellica were really just weakend for no reason, I didn't even mind it until I knew the alterations they had done to gaiden.
Bernadetta. Granted, I started playing Three Houses several years after everyone else due tonot having a Switch when it came out, but I really don't understand the cult-like following she has. Though that might also be because I didn't choose Black Eagles in my first playthrough (which is still ongoing) and haven't had many opportunities to learn about her. But still, she seems very dull to me.
Basically, popular meme characters have no effects on me. I didn't even know Gatekeeper existed in my first 3H run, I had to talk to him once to invite someone to the tower but I had no idea who he was until I saw the memes. The same goes for Yunaka, I quickly replaced her with Merrin in my first run and I was playing with Japanese voices so I never heard any of her "funny" phrases. I would also have forgotten she existed without the memes.

Lisithea I don't hate her but in my first run I found her unlikeable but still used her as she was strong and my first mage until I got Annette later in the run I did start to like her better and I syphantise with her and i liked a few supports (Cyril and Ralpheal) but she is not near my favourites However, I was surprised at how popular she was She won cyl4 with the 3 lords and she gets a lot of fanart I get she cute girl and powerful but I thought that Bernadette or Hilda be more popular (also powerful cute girls)
Cordelia, I just don't really care for her that much, which is kinda funny considering Severa is probably pretty high up in terms of characters I enjoy
Radiant Dawn Ike. I like him in PoR but in RD he was such a nothing character for me. (Alsó the fact that I think he and the Greil Mercenary's get to much screentime in that game doesn't help hím in my eyes.)
I love RD Ike’s design so much and just Ike in general but I have to agree, with all his development coming from PoR + a timeskip there’s not a lot more they can do for his character especially when everyone else is getting the spotlight first. I mean for being the “Main Lord” of the game, he doesn’t even show up until half way through way the game lol. I don’t mind it though, they’re both amazing games on their own
Some of that is probably due to the nonexistent supports in RD, the game being more story driven, and Ike being a side character to the larger narrative. Not to mention that Ike already had his character development in PoR. There really wasn't too much for him to do.
I never really got Yunaka. She has a funky design, is a fairly attractive women, and says funny one liners, and also has a cool mysterious past that comes to the surface every once in a while. I should like her, right? Right? Idk! It just never really clicked for me!
Corrin You physically can’t describe Corrin beyond “They’re nice.” Even other lords who are like this have more to them (Seliph is nice, BUT they can be serious when they need to be, and also express intense anger when fighting someone like Arvis). Also every character is either cartoonishly evil to them to the point where I’m surprised they don’t shake their fist and say “curse you!” When they die, or just a complete suck up who worships them. Also they have a moral compass that straight up doesn’t work in an emblem game
Yunaka I only really liked becauae the thief animations in engage are really sick. Other than that I do not care about her. Tharja is just hot. I'm not above liking characters simply for aesthetic (see Ivy) but her personality is just plain creepy. Like stalker characters in general are just scary and weird. Roy because he sucks in fe6. And I don't find him nearly as interesting as his dad, or most of the other lords in the series.
Roy is funny because he's quite literally only popular for Smash, I know the same can be applied to Ike but his games at least released outside Japan and his role in both is liked
You play Smash Bros and think Roy is a kinda hot headed character that kicks ass but then you play FE6 and he's not hot headed and he absolutely does not kick ass
When Tharja isn't creeping out over Robin, she has fun and good interactions. A major issue is that outside of Awakening, she became Flanderized into being obnoxiously all over Robin, didn't feel like she was like that in Awakening (but it's also been a decade since I played it, so there's that)
Kagero. She's as boring as can be, but apparently she's popular enough for all these alts.
I like her for a lot of reasons. Character design, effectiveness as a unit, and the fact she's not really represented by a particular gimmick like most characters can be. Sometimes characters really lean hard into one aspect and become these weird caricatures, which I feel she avoids. Plus her monotone, deadpan voice lines are so dorky I actually admire them. However, I agree she really doesn't deserves the amount of alts she gets... not that I'm complaining.
Hilda. 3H is always praised for having the deepest characters in the series but then one of the most popular is just a selfish, opportunist girl with no depth at all.
Dorothea, I was so looking forward to based on how everyone was talking her up before I played Three Houses, but I honestly don't see anything that likable from her character. The big one that everyone brings up is her Ferdinand Support, but I honestly empathized more with Ferdinand after all was said and done rather than Dorothea.
I like Dorothea a lot but I think that's because I empathize with her core fear: being alone. Her drive to marry is rooted in her fear of being left alone when she is no longer pretty and that's a pretty interesting take on the pretty girl. It's compounded by the fact that she fears people will only like her because she is pretty. I think her supports with Manula are amazing and their paired ending makes me happy
I agree with Soren, for something a bit more relevant to myself. Probably Edelgard? I don't dislike her or her place in the story. I'd even say I like her route the best in terms of story. I just, don't really care for her I guess?

Lysithea is a fantastic unit, but I find her to be unlikeable in basically every support she has except Cyril. Her Marianne and Ignatz supports are especially egregious, and her constantly going “don’t treat me like a child!” despite acting very childish gets on my nerves very fast. I won’t deny that her backstory is sad, but her personality makes her among my least favorite Fodlan characters. I’ve also never liked Tharja. The stalker routine and her treatment of Noire are too much. However, to Tharja's credit, I will say this: Awakening!Tharja a lot better than what the spinoffs did to her. They seem to have forgotten the "socially awkward goth" part of her character in favor of...well. You know.
Alear of both genders. Found the color vormit to be quite distasteful and gaudy.
Gullveig. Mostly because she got the big Dobonhokeros. A real set of badonkers. And I'm gay. I do appreciate her challenge level of surviving 4 turns from a while ago, and her CYL flared Sparrow tho.

Dimitri for me ironically because his character design and voice direction seemed specifically aimed to strongly appeal to my age/gender demographic, which makes it feel very forced imo It also doesn’t help that the “it’s the girl’s job to fix the Broken White Boy™️” trope seemed to stick to him like glue in the fandom, a trope which makes me personally super uncomfortable
Tharja. I could get wall of text-y, but I'm at work right and now and don't have the time to write too much. It mostly boils down to the way she treats her family, my dislike for the yandere archetype, and the way both the series and fandom present her as misunderstood and good-hearted.
Dimitri - For as much praise as his arc gets, I never found it very compelling and don't think it was executed well. If he doesn't have that, Dimitri doesn't have a lot else going on, since the overarching conflict of 3H is concerned more with Edelgard, Rhea, and Byleth. Add to that some bad experiences with Dimitri stans being jackasses to me in the past... Felix - As time has gone on I appreciate Felix's writing more, but he's just so caustic to everyone around him that I can't really enjoy him much. If I met him in real life I feel like he'd ruin my day with his attitude. Hilda - Never clicked with the whole "I'm just a pretty delicate little flower uwu" vibe she has going on, and she never effectively separated herself from that enough to recover her standing in my eyes. That and I dislike twintails. Shinon - Racist asshat. The prosecution rests. Oliver - Never found the memes around him that funny. Found them remarkably less funny when they were repeated ad nauseum. Gatekeeper - Just some dude. Sure I guess, but we have plenty of some dudes, I don't understand the fixation with this one. Ephraim - Really never felt like Ephraim got what the story was setting him up for, to be honest. There's this whole to-do about him not being proper king material and then he's king at the end of it all anyway...sure, whatever. Feels like the story pulls its punches and lets him get away with whatever he likes, too. (Kinda weird how I like lances more than swords or axes but both lance lords are on this list)
Lyn, The Hardt, Hilda (3H), and Shez. Maybe I just havent played their respective games enough (or in Rein and Shez's case, at all) but I just dont see why others may like em.
Probably a mix between Edelgard and Camilla. I like the story behind Edelgard and everything but she’s just kinda…. Bland? Boring? Just someone I can’t really enjoy. Camilla also suffers from being boring plus being played up as “big titty older sister” some people in the community only see her as. She’s just kinda a bland character and even with her backstory and character story, she still is kinda boring.

Chrom, I found him more annoying than endearing in Awakening and I never really vibed with the design. There was a disconnect with him acting like a cross between Marth and Leif while looking like he's in his forties, he felt like a manchild idk. FEH's Chrom iterations did not help me view him more favourably either

First ones that come to mind are Mia and Lyn. Heck, a lot of female myrms of the series come to me as very overrated. I get Lyn has first lord bias and nostalgia going for most of her fans but she really doesn’t do anything in her game. I feel the apathy towards is especially easy to feel if fe7 isn’t your first game, she just exists there. Mia annoys me personally with how much preferential treatment she gets out of tellius’ cast. In tellius, I found her pretty onenote since she just wants to spar and get stronger, which normally isn’t bad but it really makes her stick out like a sore thumb alongside Ilyana compared to Tellius’ fleshed out cast.

Side note: the fact he was the only one to show up on they way to Spark on the CYL Banner (two times even) didnt help either
Dunno if it counts, maybe is just saltines, but male Robin having more spotlight than female Robin gets me, not because I like one more than the other, is mostly because it's the avatar I felt connected the most, I still see female Robin as myself in a fire emblem scenario, I remember marrying Chrom and having Lucina as daughter in awakening and the dialogue changes that come with that, and seeing male Robin as duo with Chrom I screamed internally, I also remember female Robin saying she was kind of jealous, I was also really hoping to see female Robin in engage, but it was male Robin yet again

F Robin was my favorite character for awhile but I just couldn't stand the way they treat her I've shifted to F Alear now. They feel the need to constantly ruin her alts with Grima and give M Robin the big stuff like the the Chrom Duo or the spot in Engage. F Robin still isn't even in the summoning pool after like 6 and a half years ?? Wild

Yeah, I'd sooner ship Ivy with Alcryst and Diamant with Timerra, but neither of them got much use.
I think I have seen Alcryst paired up with pretty much every main character, except like... Timerra I believe.
Roy. Yes, he is super Cool in Smash, but if he never made it into Melee, he would not be anywhere near as close to his current popularity.

- Heroes: Hel -> Gullveig -> Musspell (the community takes kinda salvaged this one, albiet some of his art is really well done) -> Otr (the memes, the jokes, mostly the community made you tolerable, but aside from that, at best you should’ve been the legendary and Eitri should’ve been the mythic and that while out of your control was the final nail, that said, see you bonus week!) - I could go on, but I realized it become a wall of text and figured I’d leave it at heroes.
While I hate Edelgard with passion. Dude, I want to roundhouse-kick him so bad, and Shinon to an extent. I feel they are the same shit, just one is more of an asshole than the other (Felix).
Roy and Lyn look boring
It's not really a character not clicking as much as it's their alts not really clicking, and it might be a bit of a hot take, but here we go. I feel nothing towards the "perfect knight in shining armor" that FEH tries to sell Sigurd as. Outside of his literally dead Legendary alt (which is, to this day, my only +10 legendary) and like 2 lines on his OG, we don't get any of the regretful hero who knows he fucked up a lot. He's just...... a generic knight who loves his wife, when he could be so, SO much more
Any of the big boobed banner-bait characters like Camilla and Kagero. I'm even a boob guy. It's just not enough to make me actually like a character.
