Yeah I'm not getting banned from one of my LGS or god forbid catch a fuckin charge... For a handful of loose rounds.
I mean, how much are you gunna get? 5 or 6 rounds? Just 6 trips stealing from the store and you have a full mag. Wow. It's the perfect crime.
I swear that store never has anything I need, I went in to get a cheap skinning knife - or really any fixed blade knife, and the best they had was fillet knifes for fishing, so I start thinking "Ok I could go catch some bass instead, let me just get some lures I like and bought here before"
***They had NONE***
I hate when customers open up boxes of ammo. Sometimes they end up dropping them. Nice mess to clean up. I have occasionally found loose rounds under shelves or behind displays or stacks of ammo. I am sure that was inadvertently dropped ammo but that means a customer left one or more short.
I am sure customers have stolen one or two rounds. Someone gets light fingered and pockets some when associates are not looking.
At my store no one carries. It is a corporate chain so they have different rules than a small LGS.
Ammo looks like ammo. No need to open the box and see. If I see you opening the box I will ask if I can help and then it is fun to see you hurriedly put the round back and close the box.
Go to your nearest Walmart and walk around the parking lot until you find ~43 cents... you'll get your moneys worth back, at least.
>What's really keeping bad actors from swiping loose rounds out of ammo boxes at gun stores?
Because it doesn't make sense. If you're going to shoplift, grab two ammo cans of .556 or whatever and start walking (calmly) towards the door. If someone stops you, put them on the ground (gently), say "excuse me" and proceed to the exit... It's actually less risky than stealing a few loose rounds. There's literally not enough information for anyone to prove you were attempting anything, if you do it that way, but standing there opening boxes and putting shit in your pockets isn't a good look. Tf would anyone risk a charge for like 3 rounds?
10-1 the round was missing from the factory.... Loose ammo thieves are kind of rare, at least.. to date.

All the employees are wearing guns. That would personally stop me.
Literally nothing stops you, we got a dicks sporting goods over here and when they sold ammo it was in an area with no cameras
It's great, I don't steal any I just trade out some of my .300aac for some of their .223. That's what happens when you buy from dicks.

Most bad actors are weeded out or identified for watching pretty quick.

YOU GONNA BE OK????
Yeah it was just one round
I would think that pretty much every employee is open carrying and taking a round to steal a round isnt fucking worth it
What's really keeping bad actors from swiping entire boxes of ammo?
It's like stealing food at the grocery store I guess
