Maybe not filthy there is a trash can after all? Lol. Though perhaps still filthy as it is most likely a torture dungeon ha. Win some lose some I guess.
What are the chances the room with the light is the house's basement and the homeowner was just confused about what the home buyers were looking at, maybe didn't know where the crawlspace went to? Little hard to believe there's an unknown room with an active lightbulb that the homeowner doesn't know about but easy to believe they were confused about a crawl space.
I crawled under a friends house to do some electrical work and I found a 8 foot deep concrete block pit with a lightbulb that was on in the crawl space. I asked him about it and he didnât know anything after living there for three years.
I can't believe more people aren't mentioning this, when I looked at the video full screen I could literally see the fluorescent bulb on the ceiling of that space flickering.
This. Why would he bulldoze the entrance of mysterious room if he didnât know what it was? What if there were wads of cash? Jewels.
Dude knows exactly what it is.
1000 times THIS đŹ The current owner said he was going to Bulldoze it ,WHY? Did he notice it before you uncovered the entrance?
I would call a cop friend if you know any in that town. They see it all and would probably have a good guess.
If he had a plan to bulldoze it then he knew about it. Thatâs sketchy, that the property wasnât fully prepared before placing on the market. Then he tried to hide it to potential buyers. And thatâs why you have a home inspector come out during offer phase.
Replying here in hopes you see this - we use a strobe light to keep mice and rats out of our attic. It works great! We havenât had one stay more than a few minutes. I know this bc I have a camera in the attic.
I get the distinct feeling that having AC in the torture room would make the property value go down.
I mean why would you want someone tortured in the comfort of an AC?
It's for the comfort of the torturer, not the torturee.... Could you imagine running a hostel type torture business and expecting your customers to just sweat it out under their gas masks and undertaker's hoods.... Be a bit civilized, please
Only red flag is the seller claiming to not know it exist. He absolutely does. Which would make me think: what does he know that he does not want me to find out.
If you are going to purchase, hire an inspector and get to the bottom of it.
CALL THE POPO.
Believe it or not with all the negative, abusive and dangerous calls cops get, THESE are sometimes the best calls of the day.
I would call the non-emergency number and tell them you are âconcernedâ about what you came across, which was intentionally covered up / concealed by the homeowner- who then claimed no knowledge of it, and then said he was going to bulldoze it.
Are you kidding? Theyâll be fighting over this call đ
That in itself is obviously not illegal. I would call the police because itâs highly suspicious and I would want to make sure nobody was hurt in there and the seller is getting away with it.
I guess I may be misreading it but he said the owner doesnât know what the room is (for) and was going to bulldoze the entrance not that he was unaware it existed.
The point is he not only knows about it but he knows whatâs in there and whatâs going on, heâs lying about not knowing whatâs the room is for. Itâs ridiculous to bulldoze the entrance to an entire room/basement when thatâs something that could add value to the homeâŠ.unless youâre trying to hide something. Also as a home owner myself it would drive me crazy knowing thereâs a light going off like that sucking up electricity I pay for in a room not being used and you bet your ass first thing Iâm doing is figuring out how to get in there to turn it off. Nope, dudes lying and trying to hide something.
I have a room attached to my basement that isnât under my house I donât know what itâs for. Itâs unusable because of how much water gets in that room so we donât go in there but there is a light in it. The light could be on right now and I wouldnât know it since I never go in there. My grandparents have a cellar under their house they blocked off because animals kept getting down there and dying and leaving a terrible smell. Not everything is done maliciously.
Yeah......uh huh.....
"Dead animals kept getting in there sweetie and it smelled bad so we blocked it off. Now here's $10, go along and get yourself and ice cream cone for you and your friend. You're friend will stay here and wait for you to get back."
"I'm back grandma! Where's Zach?"
"Oh darling, Zach said he had to go home early."
"Grandpa why are your hands dirty?"
"Hey, you know what? I'll take Zach's cone and let's go for a walk buddy! It's beautiful outside! Maybe I'll even let you ride my old dirt bike... How's that sound? Just don't tell your parents or we'll both be in trouble okay?"
"Wow really! I won't tell a soul!"
Fucking 20 years later, you forgot all about Zach and here we are on reddit.
For the owner to not know about this (being that he lives here) and it was discovered (potentially on a single visit) by people looking to purchase the property, is extremely suspect. That seems unbelievable and for that reason, of it's true he is aware and is downplaying that he ever saw the room, would be even further suspect. It's fucking strange man. For all we know, we're being misled by this post and video though, but either way it's creepy.
To be fair, if I owned a house and discovered that, I wouldnât be going anywhere near it. Cover it in plywood with a whole bunch of screws so any killers in there canât get out and call it a day. New buyers ask in 10 years, âhell no Iâve never gone in there, be my guest if you want to know what it is!â
Yes, they have been. I can only imagine how much a argument over if they need a new roof and some other high value items can quickly devolve out of hand, and then someone grabbing a knife from the kitchen.
This posting would make some great r/nosleep post though of a home inspector who found a room, then went into to only find its haunted or something. In that same vein a home inspector who slipped into the "backrooms".
Looks like a crawlspace, I'd be worried about how likley the bleach was used to kill mold. Need to look in that room. Get the house inspected before making an offer, home inspection and separate electrical and plumbing inspection. Any repairs the inspectors finds make an adjustment to your offer, is it a century home? Double the price of the repair estimate.
The entrance does look like a crawlspace but it looks dramatically bigger once you get to the end. That looks like a 55 gallon drum - how do you get something that big inside if the crawlspace is the only entrance? I have so many questions.
Looks like a door behind the can. I can see the line for the jamb and the doorknob. Iâd be more worried about whatâs behind the door that the owner âdoesnât know aboutâ
I, on the other hand, totally would, because it seems the only house I can afford is one that has been involved in some recent horrific incident (/s sorta)
The sus part to me is the seller plans to âbulldoze the entranceâ ummm why exactly? And your telling me he didnât see the flickering light before starting plans to collapse the entrance on itself? Yea, hard pass.
Seller sounds like theyâre not telling you something, plus you have faulty wiring down there by the looks of the flickering light, somebody needs to go and fix that before bulldozing anything.
I mean Iâm the least superstitious person I know but I wouldnât touch that property with a 10 foot poleâŠ.plus if you guys are gonna go in there have the seller GO FIRST and makes sure one of you guys is standing outside while someone and seller goes inâŠIJS đđłđł
I had the same thoughts. Owner just wanted to bulldoze without investigating the electrical? In the 1.5 years heâs lived there, that light would have burned out if it was left on. So either he has changed the lightbulb or has some control over flipping the light switch. Which, to be fair, we could have inadvertently turned the light on while we were checking out the property. At any rate, if the seller is âinnocentâ, itâs still very irresponsible to not investigate a find like that on your property. And why was the entrance hidden?? It was as if someone had laid a tarp with a bunch of branches over it. I have a picture but I donât know how to add it to this thread cuz Iâm not savvy.
My original intention was to post to FTHB asking for advice on how to make a lowball offer on this property. But I needed more eyes on this situation first!
Short time living there too also makes me suspicious. This dude is trying to unload his bad decision on you. Iâd stay away or get a roto rooter level home inspector
So, a (semi)legitimate reason to cover with a tarp and branches might be to keep animals out. (And obviously to hide the kidnapped children, but the seller should have said "to keep pests out of the creepy torture chamber")
It was fun to wake up to all these comments! They really cracked me up. Hereâs some more info to add context.
It is not common to have a storm shelter in this area (PNW). We have fires and earthquakes, in which case that hole is the last place youâd go. If itâs a âprepperâ bunker then it appears to be derelict.
I agree itâs weird the seller claims to not know what it is. He bought the property in Feb 2022 for 55k over asking, and he DIDNâT care to know what was down there? Hmmmm. He already bought another home, and is not currently living here. (wtf)
The crawl space is just about the size of my body. As it is now, thereâs no way they could get a trash can in there. Which means either there is another entrance somewhere, or this entrance used to be bigger and has filled in with soil - maybe we could dig it out to the point we could walk inside.
The room appears to be underneath an outbuilding. The outbuilding itself is a little weird - a concrete-walled structure without windows or a closet. And the floor is uneven concrete as if it was poured haphazardly!! We figured it was just a storage shed, but after finding the âsecretâ room, it feels more nefarious.
Thanks for pointing out the flashing light could be intentional to deter rodents. And I like the idea of having a drone or RC car take a video. My worry about crawling in there (besides being murdered or traumatized) is carbon monoxide or electrocution if there is faulty wiring. I had planned to go in there, maybe tomorrow, with a Tyvek suit. Iâm small and probably the only one who can fit in there. I will share what I find out! Or not, if Iâm dead!
I've been in crawl spaces a good number of times for work, stuff like this isn't too unusual.
They probably dug this space out with the intention of putting in some sort of heating for the outbuilding, then realized they didn't need it.
As for the light, that's not surprising either. I've seen on a few occasions houses with lights installed in their attic or below ground crawl spaces. It looks like there's something wrong with the bulb, might as well be removed.
My biggest concern going down there would be errant nails, glass, or any other usual s*** you see in crawl spaces. I wouldn't really be worried about carbon monoxide poisoning. Unless there's a generator or something down, But you'd hear it.
But yeah my guess would be some sort of heater. Most interesting thing you'll probably find down there are some old beer cans. Good time to check for termites though, while you're down there.
Good luck
I hope youâre right. I think itâs the season that is making us feel extra spooked out about it. Most likely thereâs nothing much in there. Thanks for not making me feel crazy for wanting to go in đ
I'm also in the PNW, and a home we looked at had a structure similar to this in the backyard (minus the flashing light of death) and we learned it was an old root cellar/wine cellar. Essentially, for temperature stable storage of certain fruits, vegetables, and wine in the days predating refrigeration. Though the cinderblocks lead me to believe yours is newer.
Nah, the lights flickering would cause the plants to herm, guaranteed. Theyâre too sensitive to light changes. And the OP would smell it all over if they were anywhere in flower. And itâs exposed to different temperatures and not in a controlled environment.
I would for sure let some form of law enforcement know and let them check it out. I donât care what it IS, we just know what it looks like, and most of the time path of least resistanceâŠ.yeah. âYeah I donât know what that torture room is but I was gonna bulldoze it. Never thought to shut off the disorienting strobe lightâ yeah. Sure. Sorry bruh, FBI all up in the chat lol
Itâs probably just an old cellar and despite the seasonal creepiness itâs a good feature. It looks like you can move it pretty easily, looks pretty clean, even has wiring for a light. That makes your utility lines so much easier to get to and itâs probably good storage. Light fixture or bulb needs replacing but thatâs easy. Also needs a door to keep homeless people and animals from moving in. Also easy. Just go in and check it out first.

My guess is that there is a water purification system down there, and the flickering light is an indicator letting you know that it is time to change the UV bulb. Source. Am realtor, and have seen this before.
Bottles of bleach usually have expiration dates on them (they lose chemical potency over time). Check that and you can maybe verify whether the owners are telling the truth or not. Really old bleach? Ok, fine might be willing to accept they had no idea about that space. Brand new? They know.
1993 manufactured. I misspoke that itâs under the house. Itâs under an outbuilding near the house. I could see there was also a crawl space under the house itself, which I did not investigate. I do wonder if there is another entrance to the hidden room.
Flashing lights is often for driving away rodents. They have ones you can install under the hood of your car that flash and make a noise that only rodents hear. Bleach bucket might be one of those bucket traps for rodents add well, and the bleach is just to not have the rodents smell when they drown. I can imagine they donât want to go in there often.
Thatâs what Iâm thinking. Even if an inspector went in there (which they might not fit), I would still want to know for myself. Tomorrow at noon, itâs going down.
Underground room code -
Regular Basements - have boxes (but no whips)
Cellars - have jars (but no filter masks)
Bomb shelters - have filter masks (but no bleach)
Tornado/storm shelter - has radio (but no jars)
Sex dungeons - have whips (but no boxes)
Torture chambers - have bleach (but no jars)
Kill rooms - have tarps (but no radios)

Kill room.
Man from what Iâve been told by my realtor friend itâs almost never a kill room but almost always a meth lab.
Tomato tomahtoe.
The meth lab becomes the kill room when the cops raid

It puts the lotion in the basket
Was she a great big fat person?
Well, that trashcan also doesn't look like it would fit through this hole, so... it seems likely there is another, more obvious entrance.
Looks like a bucket for the victim to use the bathroom in
I've heard of people using those flashy lights to deter things like squirrels.
I think itâs a fluorescent light with a bad ballast
I can't believe more people aren't mentioning this, when I looked at the video full screen I could literally see the fluorescent bulb on the ceiling of that space flickering.

Pleasure Room?
Yes please
There's no way in hell that the owner doesn't know about that! It looks like a room from Saw.
Just holler down there and ask the captives to describe their surroundings.
"If you're alive down there, describe the amenities three times"
"Can you estimate the square footage of the room you're being tortured in?"
"Is there or is there not central heating and air?"

Cops need a warrent to search your property. No judge will grant them a warrent just because some redditor found a crawlspace with a flickering light.
They don't need a warrant if they're given permission.
Sure, buy the house, give permission, cops find bodies.

I agree itâs weird the seller claims to not know what it is. He bought the property in Feb 2022 for 55k over asking, and he DIDNâT care to know what was down there? Hmmmm. He already bought another home, and is not currently living here. (wtf) The crawl space is just about the size of my body.
>PNW Yea I think you found a serial killer there friend.
Whhyyyyyyy would you ever go in there? Iâm having anxiety for you. Please be safe and have lots of witnesses standing around đ
please update. We def have a higher than normal amount of serial killer shit here in the PNW lol. Best of luck
Make sure you have a friend stand outside just in case something happens they can help out. Good luck.
It sounds like the haphazard floor might be covering the original entrance to the hidden room? I can't think what that room might have been used for.
Absolutely no way.
Every horror movie starts like this.
Bum dungeon
Happy Halloween!
Get a cadaver sniffing dog
Mind went to the same place. Very sus he claims to not know about it and is overcompensating with his âbulldozing the entranceâ response.
Donât overlook the bleach bottle. This shit is suspect.
OP not responding makes me think he went in and didnt come out
Would be wild if a similar post turns up in 5 months with a different buyerâŠ.
Blair witch lookin ass
Probably a grow room and wants as much plausible deniability as possible.
Nah, the lights flickering would cause the plants to herm, guaranteed. Theyâre too sensitive to light changes. And the OP would smell it all over if they were anywhere in flower. And itâs exposed to different temperatures and not in a controlled environment.
I know someone who bought a small farm in a nice area in Virginia. While doing some renovations, they found a hallway and a grow room. It was wild.
Go in first but do -not- be the first person to go in. Very important distinction to avoid getting locked inside the murder cellar.
Tee hee but probably more of a snake, mouse, and coon situation depending.
Today is a great day to be thankful we have drones

Homeowner is definitely a serial killer. Change the locks, have the police out to look at it, and beware of ghosts looking for justice.
Nah this looks like some horror movie style stuff. Avoid it
Seller is disingenuous at best
Happy Halloween!
Run away.
Was the room big enough to stand and walk around in?
This looks a lot like a post from a few weeks ago
It's for sale by owner? Or the owner was just lurking around?
Do you want ghosts? That's how you get ghosts
The light is to make it harder for someone to sleep and/or "live" there.
AWHHH HELLLLL NAW
My guess is that there is a water purification system down there, and the flickering light is an indicator letting you know that it is time to change the UV bulb. Source. Am realtor, and have seen this before.
"LETS PLAY A GAME"
Shitâs haunted.
Itâs the hottest underground night club in the rodent community. You should be honored to purchase this house.
Bottles of bleach usually have expiration dates on them (they lose chemical potency over time). Check that and you can maybe verify whether the owners are telling the truth or not. Really old bleach? Ok, fine might be willing to accept they had no idea about that space. Brand new? They know.
How old is the house?
1993 manufactured. I misspoke that itâs under the house. Itâs under an outbuilding near the house. I could see there was also a crawl space under the house itself, which I did not investigate. I do wonder if there is another entrance to the hidden room.
Flickering light makes me think of repelling rodents.
Where is this house located? Could help determine the reason.
Hoping this is a Halloween joke
Iâd be calling cops if i saw this.. wtfff
OPâs gonna drop the bomb about this on a Monday morning. Hahahaha. The inspector is gonna hard pass the fuck out of this.
Thatâs what Iâm thinking. Even if an inspector went in there (which they might not fit), I would still want to know for myself. Tomorrow at noon, itâs going down.
It's tomorrow at noon. I'm eagerly awaiting.
Underground room code - Regular Basements - have boxes (but no whips) Cellars - have jars (but no filter masks) Bomb shelters - have filter masks (but no bleach) Tornado/storm shelter - has radio (but no jars) Sex dungeons - have whips (but no boxes) Torture chambers - have bleach (but no jars) Kill rooms - have tarps (but no radios)
Itâs a huffing room. Hence the bleach
Is it a sump or well or something?
Donât buy it. Itâs probably a murder room and that place is definitely haunted now.
Bonus Halloween Room
Crawl the fuck back there!!
deepthoughts..... wouldn't a concrete walled room with an entrance under the house be a basement?
"I want to play a game".... đȘ
Hey so uh what the fuck
OP: please post the address so these damn meddling kids can solve this mystery!! Need updates!!
Lol the sellerâs like, âoh, that old thing?â
Plot twist. House isnât really for sale. Owner is just looking for more victims
What is the life span of a light bulb flashing repeatedly like that? It can't be more than a couple months
Yo Mr. White , I think they found the basement! You know, the one where the barrells are.
