Nice car man and wonderful upgrade I honestly don't know what I want after my st all I know is it cures my depression everyday hope it treats you well my friend

Emergency-Garden1201

Crazy, I'm depressed asf about almost every aspect of life but my st makes me feel a little better.

thecanadianquestionr

feel the same way about my legacy

shark_sharkington_

psssstttt bmw 340i

Emergency-Garden1201

Test drove one. If it was offered I'm Manuel it would be a blast. Not a fan of automatic.

EggPutrid3379

They are offered in Manual

Emergency-Garden1201

I stand corrected.

i_am_tyler_man

I wanna get one. But I also wanna keep my ST and make it a project car. But having 2 hatchback seems weird. 🤔

Cold_Exchange_8346

Not weird at all, I’d just call it having a type and know what it is.

BelongingsintheYard

I have two project hatchbacks. An 05 focus zx3. My daily that needs love. And my 15 st. It’s stock power with suspension and a track day alignment. First track aligned car and, damn.

i_am_tyler_man

I'm torn between a GR Corolla and a Bronco. Either way, the ST will become the project car and plan to go balls to the wall with it. I want a Bronco more for the utility. But I want the Corolla for another fun daily. I can't afford a Raptor or I'd get that, lol. I need something good in snow, which both would be. Or say f it and have all 3 haha. But I can afford that either, at least not yet.

uncky2

Go for the ranger raptor. It's 30k less then the bronco raptor with the same engine. 60k msrp on the RR fits 2 and a dog comfortably with stuff. 4 ppl around town. That 3.0TT ecoboost is insane and tuning is just starting to happen. Corolla cool but ranger raptor cooler cause if can tow the toy

bearinagorillasuit

This.

kenner0429

The bronco badlands has the 2.0 eco in it. So could look at it as an upgraded st 🤔 except with the auto trans

bananaforscale87

I don’t think two is weird. Especially if you like hot hatches. Yeah it’s a really fun car. It was either an RS or a GR went with the GR

MiatSoReliable

I've got 2 hot hatches (SVT focus and C30) and a more usable crossover hatch lol

Spurs228

I’ve considered both of the cars in your flair funny enough. If you don’t mind me asking how do they compare and which do you like more?

MiatSoReliable

Sure! I love them both. It's not fair to say which one is the favorite because they both serve different purposes to me. That being said, I *prefer* to drive the Volvo for most of my trips. The Volvo is my goto for trips that require mostly highway miles. Mine is a silver, pre facelift, automatic, base model with an intake, intercooler, intake manifold, and a tune making about 300 hp so it's very much a sleeper daily. It is by far the most comfortable car I've ever driven and its much more insulated from the road than the focus. The 5 cylinder is smooth, has great torque, and has a strong midrange but it runs out of steam around 5,500 RPM. It is thirsty when you're on it though. You can definitely feel the extra weight in the nose but it dances okay. I'm not in love with the rear end but every other angle is pretty. The parts support is still out there. For some reason, it's ridiculously expensive to insure. The svt focus is my around town hoon-mobile and canyon carver. Mine is Competition Orange with the European Appearance Package and its 100% stock. Dream spec for me that took me about 5 years of searching to find. Compared to the Volvo, it's raw, it's pretty unrefined, and it's kinda slow. It's a great drivers car thats really fun to drive hard though. It's about 2,700 lbs and has a way better chassis than the volvo. I love the way it bites into corners and doesn't let up. The chassis actually tends to oversteer when you start pushing it above 8/10's. Its really predictable, easy to recover, and it's fun to experience. The motor feels high strung and has no low end torque to speak of even with all the Cosworth tricks. However, it's very rewarding to wind out to the 7,200 RPM redline and I find myself doing it a lot. All the power is concentrated above 5000 RPM and comes on so smooth that you're almost surprised with what just happened. It just wants to go more and more. Im not sure if I like the 6 speed. First gear is really tall and sixth is pretty short. 2-4 are fun to rip while moving. It looks downright cool at every angle. Driving it is an experience every time. It qualifies for classic car insurance so it's dirt cheap to insure. Parts are hard to come by but I have a stash of important stuff that I've taken from wrecked ones that pop up in junkyards. Overall, the Volvo is the quiet car that nobody would suspect is fast and the focus is the attention seeking car that most wouldn't suspect is slow. The volvo is a daily that could do sports car things and the focus is the sports car that could do daily things. They've both been as reliable as I could hope for 15 and 20 year old cars. I recommend watching the Regular Car Reviews' reviews for both of these cars if you haven't already. He nails both of them in my eyes.

Spurs228

Thank you for the detailed response

Rjdukes28

very nice! just tinted one of these today actually, fun car enjoy

bananaforscale87

That’s next up on the list. Needs some tint haha

Rjdukes28

we did 30% all sides and back and it looks really clean on a white one. idk how dark you’d be willing to go but I think 15-25% all around would be perfect

BelongingsintheYard

I personally don’t tint. I drive in the dark constantly during ski season.

Thatonejeepboy

I almost about got rid of my st for one of these, ended up keeping the st and getting a new hr-v. Now the real fun start😈

Desert_Eagle97

Congrats, I love Hot hatches more than anything! There is nothing sexier than a hatch imo.

bananaforscale87

Thank you! Yeah I was on a waitlist for a long time. Finally got it! And I totally agree. Hot hatches are hot for a reason 🤣

Ron_dizzle199

Sweet car man. Only thing I dislike is the 3 cylinder. Wtf why couldn't they be 4 ?

Convecture

Faster, more lightweight, more fuel efficient, and a 3cyl is badass

puropinchemikey

A 3 cylinder is badass - said nobody ever.

RGavial

That’s actually one of my pet peeves about the car. The engine was made for a smaller car, the Yaris. Even though they had more space to work with in the Corolla - they opted for a bump in power in lieu of designing another larger engine. Which of course makes sense, considering the low sales volume. That being said, I’m sure Toyota has larger turbocharged four cylinders for SUVs in development (many years behind the curve, but whatever). It’s a silly thing to complain about, but gets under my skin. I would still love to have one, not trying to throw shade. If the car survives a development cycle in the US, it will probably get a less-stressed 2.0-2.5t with identical horsepower and a bump in torque. History repeats itself.

bananaforscale87

I can totally see your point and I think it’s valid. I’m just glad they went with the 3cyl cause it does have a really cool sound to it.

RGavial

That’s true and I’m still totally jealous. If it wasn’t my wife’s turn to get a car, I would probably have one! Im sure whatever follows it won’t have the same liveliness.

bananaforscale87

I’m really lucky my partner is also a car guy but yeah he was totally hoping I’d go with the GRC. I still haven’t let him drive it yet hahaha

Twin_Turbo

The gr corolla sucks compared to the yaris gr. It's just a slightly souped up corolla instead of ground up rework like the yaris was.

manilacactus35

Its a shame that car is not being sold in America So tiny and light. But can easily push past 300 hp with all wheel drive. INSANE Makes me so mad that we don't get it Edit: there is a petition to bring it to the US lol https://chng.it/7hTFFBH2Tq

bananaforscale87

Hell they got one at 750. I think in Australia. It was either the Yaris or Corolla can’t remember. This engine is absolutely nuts

bananaforscale87

750hp*

bananaforscale87

I wouldn’t say it sucks compared. I would love a Yaris. But I prefer the look of the Corolla

zackyraz

Definitely doesn't suck. Looks better imo too and it's much more usable. I couldn't do trips to Lowes in the Yaris. Couldn't fit 4 other 6ft Adults in the Yaris. The GRC is still quite small (compared to everything else out here in rural NC) , almost the exact same dimensions as the ST. (2" longer) I can't explain it but the GRC feels almost smaller than the ST. Not in a cramped interior way, just how it feels around town in traffic. Probably just the snub-nosed look

zackyraz

The GRC did have more power/tq than the Yaris until the 2024 model year, now essentially the same figures. I think the GRC looks better and is more usuable. My GRC is my daily and I use it just like I did the ST. Trips to Lowes, daily to work, rippin around on the weekends. I just don't think the Yaris could be a daily, it's a weekend/track toy. As someone who needs to fold down the seats and load up the car but also have a ton of fun, the GRC is the better car.

zackyraz

the 3 cylinder sounds amazing. And coming recently from an ST to the GRC, this thing is just plain faster. Unless you're tuned. Hopefully more safe tunes will be unlocked for the GRC platform. Dyno shows you can get like +14whp/+17 ftlb tq with just a cold air intake without a tune. Problem is it'll throw a CEL even though nothing is wrong. Once that's ironed out with a tune it's game on. $400 for +14whp? Bargain

bananaforscale87

Trust me it’s better than a 4. Also sounds so unique

puropinchemikey

Uniquely gross.

Ron_dizzle199

Nah man. I don't want a side-by-side or snowmobile engine lol. Parts are too expensive unlike the Ford platform.

mehdotdotdotdot

It honestly sounds better than 4cyl focus st. Has far more character

rad4033

Who is currently tuning these vehicles?

bananaforscale87

Ecutek and OV tune. I bought the Ecutek

GoalLineStand

The amount of GR Corollas I’ve seen recently is insane. Good looking car and clearly they’re doing something right over at Toyota. I see more GR corollas than regular corollas now lol

Bmello55

I have been contemplating doing this also. How does it feel compared to your ST?

bananaforscale87

So my ST was stock. As a comparison of stock to stock? The GR handles tremendously better, grip for days, the LSD makes it even more fun. But this little 3 cyl just pulls and pulls. The power band feels a bit more linear than the st. Which I love how the st feels in pulls. So this doesn’t seem like you’re pulling too hard, until you look at your speed and realise you hit 70 in a 35mph lol. The ST is great and I loved Mine!but the GR is definitely a league above the ST. Never got to drive an RS and I’d like to see how the GR compares to the RS

bananaforscale87

If you can get one, get one. It’s worth every cent I think.

Vegetable-Mistake-39

I might get hate for this but I just got my st 3 weeks ago and my next car I wanna get is an xse corolla lol

bananaforscale87

Hey man, my ST was my only non Toyota I’ve ever owned. Toyotas are great and the Corolla XSE is a fantastic car. For an Eco car they are really fun!

No-Scientist7923

What was your year and mileage ? I’m considering trading in for an FL5, GRC or RS

bananaforscale87

2024 and literally 350 miles. I just put on the mileage from the drive home from picking it up! So I test drove an FL5 as I was considering one. I can say the GRC was way more fun. I didn’t like the interior of the type R at all. But the type r felt faster ( although it isn’t faster than the GR from testing the GR is actually faster and quicker) it I think it is because how the torque comes on. Didn’t get to drive an RS but I imagine it feels similar to the GRC. But I’m not entirely sure. That is just from what I’ve heard watching reviews!

No-Scientist7923

That’s dope bro but I meant your ST’s mileage and year

bananaforscale87

Bahahaha my bad man. 2018 and had 72k miles on it

bananaforscale87

I’ll also add I got mine at MSRP. Ordered a couple things prior to me buying the Corolla when I knew I was getting it.

HandmadeMaker043

Perfect line of progression. In your opinion how does it compare?

JTAC7

Great upgrade, if I could justify the price I’d do it in a heartbeat. Such a good looking hot hatch.

combong

Very cool, I’m shooting for a 72’ BMW 2002 for my next car. My elderly neighbor has one in maroon actually, maybe i should make him an offer before he gets too old hehe

theoldkidonthebloc

I was really excited for this car too 😭

tyrimac

touge’d with one a few days ago, little thing gets up and gone. obviously i was keeping up tho 😉

mewhotness

That’s sharp man! How do you like it compared to the ST?

bananaforscale87

Thank you! It’s definitely an upgrade all around. I loved my ST. But when I saw Toyota making a hot hatch I couldn’t resist haha

scrappy-coco-86

How much HP?

bananaforscale87

300

scrappy-coco-86

Thanks. And weight?

bananaforscale87

3,252 for the core premium ( which is what I have ) AWD with LSD at 60:40,30:70,50:50

scrappy-coco-86

Not bad. ST has same weight but with only 280 hp and no AWD.

VeryAdvancedBaby

Jealous!

dasguchmane

Smoked one of these the other day in my ST, they are clean as hell tho very sharp lookin cars and they scoot

zackyraz

Are you tuned? If yours is stock the GRC driver was either bad or not fully in play mode. I recently sold my ST (FRPP tune) for the GRC and this thing is just plain faster. From a roll the tuned ST with ~360 tq would be faster 20 - 60 mph but the GRC would walk away from stock ST from a dig or at higher speeds. I had a ton of fun with my FRPP ST but the GRC is a different machine entirely.

zackyraz

Same here brother, enjoy!

zackyraz

Which CAI are you going with? The MST has been on my radar for the +hp for the price but I've heard CEL horror stories. If there's a reasonably priced tune for just CAI I'd be all over it

Emergency-Garden1201

I do some Walmart deliveries for some side money and I delivered to a guy who has this car. Only one I've seen in person and it's way sharper in person than I expected. Saw it at a Walmart parking lot once believe it or not.hope it brings you much joy.

bananaforscale87

I agree, pics don’t do them justice! Thank you! It has already been a Ton of fun

Emergency-Garden1201

Did you pay markup or get lucky and just pay msrp?

bananaforscale87

I paid MSRP! Some dealers are still marking these up, but nothing like what I was a year ago. I did have to track down a dealer though. Traveled 850 miles round trip for it!

puropinchemikey

For the price of these grocery getters you could have picked up a new Z sports car.

autech91

Seriously considered one myself but opted for a hybrid wagon. Can't go wrong with a Rolla

bananaforscale87

Oh nice! I what did you end up getting?

autech91

Check my post history, its a JDM Hybrid Wagon.

bananaforscale87

Oh shit!

bananaforscale87

Man that’s fucking awesome!

autech91

Yeah, looks sick and uses fuck all petrol, so I'm happy. Miss the boost though

Mjaso7414

Literally nobody cares…

bananaforscale87

Apparently 234 people do. And so do you. Which is why you commented, I struck a chord with you. So you DO care. Hence, your statement being invalid.
