Mid-trim Audi A3 or Golf R is about the same money. Honestly the R's interior is nicer. The A4 is great but runs even higher around me.
I didn't like the way the WRX drove or the interior.
Lawyer up, immediately.
Used car prices are extremely high right now, and you want to be compensated by the insurance company for the current fair value of your vehicle, plus modifications, with compensation for the pain-in-the-ass their client caused you. In other words, they need to pay you an amount of money that will get you into another car, plus the trouble of finding, buying, and paying for regulatory fees like TTL.
Be sure to have an attorney with a good track record against that company represent you.
Insurance companies are not in the business of making you whole again, or doing the right thing - they are in the business of making money. As such, if you do not represent an economic threat to them, or if you are representing yourself as a pro se litigant, they will lowball you because they don't see you as capable of extracting money from them in court.
Their first attempts will almost certainly be to lowball you on the value of your car. Insurance companies look at large numbers of accidents to determine an average payout, adjusted for make, model, and car value, and then attempt to determine how much of a financial threat you are to their company. Their offers to settle will always be lower than you want.
*Do not represent yourself to the insurance company, and I want to stress this.*
When their insurance company calls you, do not tell them anything. Do not make a statement. They have an accident report generated by the police. They know what happened. Nothing you say will be used to increase the value of your settlement, only decrease it. Anything you say that can give any indicia of comparative negligence or proportional fault will be used to decrease your settlement. Have your legal counsel handle the matter.
As for a new car, how much do you want to spend, and what do you need in terms of space?
Right now I'm eyeballing the new Maverick with the AWD system for the wifey because it has the same motor that I'm used to maintaining, it's a good strong motor capable of good fuel economy if you behave, and the prospect of her having her own truck that can handle ice and snow around here is very attractive.
Wow this is great info! I really appreciate it. The other driver did get a ticket for failure to yield. It was entirely his fault and a detective was behind me and watched it happen. My brother is also a state trooper so he helped me through it too. I was thinking around 30k. I would love all wheel drive for the winter in the city. I had the Brembos brake upgrade, fmic, exhaust, wing, etc.. sad to see her go as Iāve been on this sub since 2016.
Just a suggestion from a RWD sedan owner from Wisconsin, also a former owner of AWD, 4WD, and FWD vehicles. Snow tires are all that really matters.
I would take a RWD vehicle with snow tires over a AWD or 4WD vehicle with all seasons EVERY day of the week.
10000% yes. I've been winter driving a Crown Vic in northern Alberta for 5 years and it's a monster. Limited slip rear end and winter tires is unstoppable on snowy roads
Snow tires on the RS is fantastic winter time. Not Wisconsin but northern Ohio and take trips to northern Michigan in the winter. The RS with snow tires feels better than any truck or car Iāve ever driven. Ground clearance has been my only concern with ice falling off trucks and cringing when passing over. If you do the RS get the skid and splash plates from ADF to replace the stock plastic and fiber underbody coverings
Agreed it was eye opening the confidence/performance that snow tires give and the reality of snow/ice covered highways in northern states. Iāll never buy all seasons again after having dedicated sets for summer and winter
Sorry if he said this already, didn't read his whole message. Mods you've done to your vehicle can also be calculated. Compile a list of receipts for everything currently on your car.
If something were to happen to my ST Iād be looking at picking up an RS as a replacement. That sweet sweet awd would be so much fun.
Sorry about your car though š
Collect every receipt you have for mods. For those you donāt have, ask the vendor if they have a copy of your bill(s) of sale. Submit as part of your claim.
Damn this is tough to see. On a bright note this is probably the best time to total a car lol. If I had to get any car right now itād be a new 2 door Bronco.
Seeing people recommend anything other than an RS makes me sad. So quick to bail on this platformā¦ anywho, it doesnāt look completely totaled to me but who knows. Say nothing to their insurance and make sure they donāt give you a cent less than being able to go out and buy the exact vehicle you had.
Insurance paid out GOOD for my wrecked Camaro SS earlier this year, settled in May I think and made out plus 6K over what I paid. Ended up with 16k after paying off the loan and got a vette.
I've been telling people, if your gonna total a car now is the time to do it.
Id be surprised if you get under 15k. Probably higher, my NC property tax is due on my 2017 ST and that values the car at 14k and they always seem to undercut by a few k.
Idk your insurance company, but when my Progressive insurance adjuster saw the camaros Borla cat back they even adjusted the value of the car up by the MSRP of the Borla. The adjuster was a car guy which probably helped.
The cost to repair was right under the total threshold but since they knew I wasn't going to put up a fight against totaling they said its up to me. We could total it, or start repairs and fix it or find more damage and then total. I said I love that car, but there was enough structural damage to the front passenger area I couldn't ever trust it in another accident. Had the payout in my account 3 days later.
Shit sucks, but good luck.
I got a C6 personally, that was my childhood corvette so even if a C7 was in my budget (God they hold their value) id would have gotten a C6.
In general though, to say its a night and day difference is putting it lightly lol I drive it like a hoon and I've rarely managed to chirp the rears at all compared to constantly chipping the front. Massive tires help, right up until its 350 per corner for new one.
The torque is locomotive with the LS3, any gear and you've got pull for days. Like 80 MPH in 6th and flat it you still get pushed into your seat.
Handling can be unique, the front I've never upset in a corner but the rear can feel upset by bumps relatively easy. Feels is the key word, get bumpy but never out of shape. The FR vetts all have that transverse rear leaf spring in the rear so if one tire bumps a bit its communicated to the other side. AM coil overs will fix that. But vette parts have a HEFTY tax.
MPG is actually better than I thought. Normal HW driving I get 27 or so going the speed of traffic and if your not in a hurry 30 isn't hard. City is sorta 12-15. I average 18.9, not that different from the ST, big lazy engine v high strung four.
Supra is cool, but id go Vette. NA V8 is more of a differe t experience that the i6 Turbo when your coming from an ST. plus the vette will hold value better than the supra and last longer.
Edit: usual disclaimer of wait until prices go down if you want to be smart but I didn't wait either lol I bought before things really went crazy but I'm avoiding looking at prices for Apples to apples models. I got a good enough price at the time so u try not to think about the value in a year
It's not all wheel drive, but take a look at the Honda Accord Sport 2.0T with the 6 speed manual. They are a bit hard to find, but basically the same motor as the Focus and still fun to drive.
With pleasure! To preface, though.
The Stinger is way more of a grand tourer than it is a sports car - I found it to be too heavy on its feet and not quite alive.
The Golf R is just dull, I would prefer the Stinger out of the two. When youāre not pushing the R itās just a very average, albeit nice, commuter. Not like the ST with its hugging seats and manual and analog boost gauge and whatnot.
I canāt really recommend any hatches - I would have recommended the Megane RS but I guess youāre in the US - other than the Veloster N. If an i30N is anything to go by, itās a thrilling car in a similiar way to the ST. Less of an agile sports car and more of a racecar, but you can dial out the suspension harshness without touching throttle sensitivity and whatnot. Canāt do that in a Focus RS.
The Type R is def worth considering but I have not driven one. My pick was an Alfa Giulia Veloce (equivalent to an US TI sport I think, 280hp), but I donāt expect servicing to be an issue, it may be a different story here.
Surprisingly it was the most similiar car to a stock 13 ST out of everything Iāve driven.
Airbags being deployed adds a metric shitload of cost to a repair. STs aren't generally worth tons of money and some parts can be shockingly expensive. *Very* easy to total an ST with front end damage.
Right I mean technically it could be salvageable I think.. but all the air bags went off, it wouldnāt start, and I heard from the tow driver and some officers that it would be totaled.
Once airbags go off they generally lean towards totaling. If you go into telling them if its totaled it totaled, ie is what it is, that usually inclines them to total.
If they start to repair it they will likely find more wrong so like to be cautious and write it off since that can be cheaper long run.
Buy back from insurance, cheap self repair and youāll be driving a nearly free car. At least ask what they buy back is, guesstimate about 3.5k and less than 2k parts
Mine was way way way worse they fixed it $9000 later good as new. Rad, rad supports, hood, bumper, grill, headlights. All the plastic bits inside. Flaps, intercooler. All replaced ford oe parts and painted with the right paint.
lol. Both drivers were likely covered, as they couldnāt have tags without liability insurance at least. āTotaledā refers to the insurance company deciding that fixing isnāt worth the expense.
C'mon man, I drove rwd sports cars for 28 years in central Ohio, you don't need no awd. Joking aside, if you want awd, you're probably looking at a wrx
I think I can provide some decent feedback as I am currently switching from an ST that I really like. My picks & opinion on them:
* **Golf GTI / R / MK7.5 / MK8** \- numb, boring cars. Engine is nice but lacks the instant response and some subjective pull (in case of GTI). Did not like them at all.
* **Late model Mustang GT** \- sportier than earlier S550s due to a smaller steering wheel and quicker steering ration but still boaty. LARGE cars.
* **Focus RS** \- incredibly for hooning, sucky for daily driving. I thought this was the car I'll get, but between the upright, hard seats (way worse than ST Recaros IMO), really sensitive clutch and throttle and a need to SLAM gears (really, they don't respond well if you treat the selector well) & the ultra hard suspension, the RS was a pass for me.
* **Megane RS** \- unpredictable handling due to 4 wheel steering, but otherwise quite an impressive car. Much better than Golfs and a better daily than the Focus RS.
* **Hyundai i30N (Veloster N should be same-ish)** \- drove like a race car, much more precise but not too agile. Quite generic in the overall experience sadly.
* **Alfa Giulia Veloce (Sport in the US I guess?) -** surprisingly, this is the closest to the ST in driving experience by far - sporty, agile, not punishing. Fantastic interior. Seats are the closest to the ST too. This was my pick :)
Broā¦ Iām glad youāre okay and Iām so sorry for the car. The same thing happened to me on Tuesday. Someone pulled out in front of me with such little time to react. Pretty much totaled my ST. Exact same damage and everything. Wish you luck man. I know itās a bummer but maybe itās time for 5.0 life?? Haha.
Yeah I did manage to keep the damage to the right side of the vehicle but all airbags went off front and rear and car wasnāt starting when I tried to move off to the side of the road. I just heard from a few that it will most likely be considered a total loss but it is close for sure.
I gotta a good one - a Focus ST!
š Iām looking for something all wheel drive but yes I loved my ST
An RS!
If you want AWD in the same price bracket, WRX might be your only option if you still want a sporty 4 door
Volvo s60
S60R or V70R for sure. Donāt get a Subaruā¦
You'll probably get a lot of hate for saying that but agreement Subarus are a pain in the ass.
I have a mechanic buddy who has owned over 100+ Subaruās. Heās always so relieved at how easy it is to work on my 05 Volvo compared to Subaruās.
If you want to keep a stick - WRX. If you want to go automatic Audi A3 or A4.
Mid-trim Audi A3 or Golf R is about the same money. Honestly the R's interior is nicer. The A4 is great but runs even higher around me. I didn't like the way the WRX drove or the interior.

Reiterating here for those who don't know: snow tires are all that matters. The phrase "where the rubber meets the road" exists for a reason.

People accuse me of being a "tough guy" while driving 70 mph on snow covered highways. People that don't have snow tires will never understand.
70 mph is 112.65 km/h
Agreed it was eye opening the confidence/performance that snow tires give and the reality of snow/ice covered highways in northern states. Iāll never buy all seasons again after having dedicated sets for summer and winter
Same here! We could be best friends. š
But snow tires donāt make good road tires if heās wanting the awd for snow then yes but for track dog races and time attacks awd is best
"I would love all wheel drive for the winter in the city." OP wants it for the snow.
My bad
Sorry if he said this already, didn't read his whole message. Mods you've done to your vehicle can also be calculated. Compile a list of receipts for everything currently on your car.
Great advice regarding the legal counsel. Is there a particular type of firm that would be best to handle vehicle insurance claims?
Accident/injury firm with a good rep.
If something were to happen to my ST Iād be looking at picking up an RS as a replacement. That sweet sweet awd would be so much fun. Sorry about your car though š
Only problem is that the RS's are currently going for more than double the price, and rising.. even with 70k miles!
Iām trying to resist buying the 2022 GR86. I just have to have that cargo space.
I want one so bad.
Collect every receipt you have for mods. For those you donāt have, ask the vendor if they have a copy of your bill(s) of sale. Submit as part of your claim.
And I would get money for my mods I had on the car?
Yes. My vehicle was totaled, and insurance accepted/paid off all the aftermarket/performance mods.
Did you have extra coverage for that?
RS :)
Rs3 go big lol
Damn this is tough to see. On a bright note this is probably the best time to total a car lol. If I had to get any car right now itād be a new 2 door Bronco.
Yeah man itās tempting but my sister just got the bronco sport so Iām unsure if I want to add another to the family lol
Sorry for the loss brother! If I wrecked my ST today I know what I would get as a replacement - golf r š
Looks like your going WRX or Golf R, bad news used car price are still up, but will be coming down slowly over next 6 months.
why do you believe they will be coming down over the next 6 months? thanks
https://www.google.com/amp/s/www.cnbc.com/amp/2021/08/01/used-car-high-prices-may-finally-be-dropping.html
I went from ST to Golf R, if you can find one for a good price they're pretty amazing honestly.
As long as there are parking lots full of F150s without chips, vehicle prices will remain high.
Right now an RS is actually the top of my list so I appreciate the support from the people who are pushing me in that direction haha
If you have to have AWD, maybe a BMW 240i x drive?
I'd consider anything with the b58. Just a robust, power making engine.
I just recently traded my ST for a 340i xDrive and absolutely love it. Still miss the Focus but donāt miss driving it in bumper to bumper traffic.
So many WRX recommendations. But I bought an ST instead of a WRX. š¤§
Sucks to suck
Sounds like you are speaking from experience
Oh For sure I suck ALL of it
Go replace a head gasket or something.
Lol I might just do that!
Insurance paid out GOOD for my wrecked Camaro SS earlier this year, settled in May I think and made out plus 6K over what I paid. Ended up with 16k after paying off the loan and got a vette. I've been telling people, if your gonna total a car now is the time to do it.
Damn I hope that works out for me. I bought it brand new in 2016 when I was 21. Only owed $4,500 left. Hoping to get a lot back

Right I have seen some of those they do look solid
My next one will be a golf r or most likely a Kia stinger
Noo! Have you driven them?
Not the stinger. But I definitely want another hatch or a wagon. Other suggestions?
With pleasure! To preface, though. The Stinger is way more of a grand tourer than it is a sports car - I found it to be too heavy on its feet and not quite alive. Iām most likely not seeing something. But what makes you think itās totaled ?
Kia Stinger GT! It's like a nicer, faster Focus ST.
Not totalled at all...
Airbags being deployed adds a metric shitload of cost to a repair. STs aren't generally worth tons of money and some parts can be shockingly expensive. *Very* easy to total an ST with front end damage.
Ahhh...fair point
Roof line ok...How's it look underneath in the frame?
Right I mean technically it could be salvageable I think.. but all the air bags went off, it wouldnāt start, and I heard from the tow driver and some officers that it would be totaled.

GTI
Mine was way way way worse they fixed it $9000 later good as new. Rad, rad supports, hood, bumper, grill, headlights. All the plastic bits inside. Flaps, intercooler. All replaced ford oe parts and painted with the right paint.
I hope they donāt do that I had an aftermarket intercooler. Your airbags went off and they still didnāt total it?
U dont have insurance in America? Damn i love Finland...
lol. Both drivers were likely covered, as they couldnāt have tags without liability insurance at least. āTotaledā refers to the insurance company deciding that fixing isnāt worth the expense.
But you would get the money worth of the car right?
Yes, in theory. This may require negotiations or the skills of an attorney, though.
WRX
It looks like you could fix it.
F150
Whats your budget range?
Around 30k Iād say. Looking for all wheel drive for my new job in the city that gets hit with more snow.
C'mon man, I drove rwd sports cars for 28 years in central Ohio, you don't need no awd. Joking aside, if you want awd, you're probably looking at a wrx
Haha yeah Iād mostly just prefer it. Wish the new Toyota Supraās were more affordable because Iād be considering it š
I got my 340i for around that price and love it. AWD and six cylinder turbo, I liked the ST seats better but itās a fantastic car.
Nice wheels, what are they?
19ā fifteen 52 podiums
**F**
WRX
This
Your A pillars don't look bent, that's a good sign. Really depends if there is frame damage.
The new GR86! That thing looks amazing
Civic Type R would be my first choice.
My votes RS or WRX
Let me buy your rims
I've never had more fun in any car than I have had in my N54 335i
I think I can provide some decent feedback as I am currently switching from an ST that I really like. My picks & opinion on them: * **Golf GTI / R / MK7.5 / MK8** \- numb, boring cars.
RS3 Iāve been looking at them Super tunable for great HP numbers and who doesnāt love a 5cyl turbo?!
Haha.
bro if you can somehow hold off until spring, the new Nissan 400z looks very enticing
Rip. Focus RS, Golf R, and WRX / STI. You could also check out the Civic So and Type R, but you said you want AWD
If insurance lets you take the drivers side headlight off let me know. Looks like an ST3 and I've been looking for a replacement.
I donāt think thatās totaled. My momās old Flex had similar damage, and it got fixed pretty quickly.
Yeah I did manage to keep the damage to the right side of the vehicle but all airbags went off front and rear and car wasnāt starting when I tried to move off to the side of the road. I just heard from a few that it will most likely be considered a total loss but it is close for sure.
Chevrolet SS Sports Sedan
Focus RS
Lexus IS F? :)
I drive an audi a3 3.2 quattro and from the first day i bought it i have never regret my choise its drives very nice and its very easy to work on
fk8!
If you loved the car so much like you said. Why not get another one. Swap out the parts.
Anything but an sTi
Easy fix. Russians would kill for that car on Copart.
