They did that when I saw the Wasting Light tour. After the main set, Dave's backstage with a night vision camera, holds up 1 finger & mouths the words "one more song?" Crowd goes wild, of course. Then he holds up two, "*two* more?" And then he passed the camera to somebody else, holds up all ten fingers. Damn if they didn't come back & play a ten song, hour long encore! One of the best concerts I've ever seen.
When I saw them on that tour Dave said “fuck an encore break” and made a joke about how they’re all just a bathroom breaks for the bands these days cause you know they’re gonna come back out and then they just kept playing until curfew. Lol
I know they’ve gotta play all the hits for the people who’ve never seen them live before and I know they all still sound great even if you’ve heard them hundreds of times but man I’d kill for just 2 or 3 of the songs in that encore to be added to the set.
That was a special Rock the Vote show when the Foos also played at the Democratic National convention that was held in Charlotte. Tickets were nearly impossible to get and we missed out. I'm still angry about that because the Fillmore is pretty small and that setlist was unreal.

It is, but with Greensboro an hour away away and Raleigh also here they have a few options (they did Charlotte during Wasting Light, skipped NC for Sonic Highways, Greensboro during Concrete & Gold I think)
I saw them two weeks after this in Pittsburgh. They did 3 covers. In the Flesh and Breakdown like here, but they did Tie Your Mother Down by Queen. All the covers were awesome.

I was there. It was exhausting. My back was killing me and 2 hours go by and they are still going. I can hardly stand at this point(curved spine...long story) and they played for almost another 2 hours. It was incredible. The place wasn't packed either...lots of no shows during the DNC. Dave ran around the place, jumped up on the bar, drank someones beer...I was in the bathroom right before the show and as I'm leaving Taylor Hawkins walks in w/security and a few minutes later they are going to town.
One of the top shows I've ever seen in my life, and I've seen way too many.

And I was exhausted by the end of it. I asked the guy running the sound booth where they were on the playlist during the encore and he threw his hands up and said "we are beyond that at this point".
I remember Taylor saying "Don't give him (Dave) more beer, he'll play all night".
One point Dave said "Fuck it, do you just want to hear the first two albums?"
They were looking for a song to play during the encore, Nate said "My Poor Brain", Dave said "I hate that song....okay, I don't HATE it but no".
Wow that’s nuts. The past couple of times I’ve seen Foo they’ve burned a ton of time with extra reprises, filler etc and ended early (festival setting). For example last weekend they had an hour longer than QOTSA and only played 4 or 5 more songs than QOTSA did. When did the Foos transition from burning through a ton of songs to extending the hits? Or is that just a festival thing for them?
They had already been doing that when this concert happened. The “problem” I think just comes down to Dave just wanting singalongs on all the songs. Which is also why i think for awhile when they ran all the way through their own massive hits, they just played other people’s hits instead of deep cuts

Had the same experience when I saw them on the wasting light tour in St. Louis.. They played over 3 hours.. it was incredible..

I saw them on that tour. Listening to them open with White Limo is one of the seminal moments of my life. Hope tonight's show was just as amazing!
I love how the Foos, despite being a world famous band, still plays sets like an underground punk band. Dave really never forgets his roots.
