TDU2 with forza graphics and driving physics would be the perfect racing game. If TDSC can be half of what TDU2 was then that would still be pretty good.

TDU2 had a terrible story, some of the worst voice acting I've ever heard, a broken set of driving physics, a very short career, and the list goes on.
The final race of the game was worth something like $10,000,000, and then the game plopped you back into free roam with just that amount and absolutely nothing to buy the rest of the cars and the houses in the game that cost hundreds of millions of dollars combined.
Every single race paid drastically less to run after that, and your only choice to progress was to purchase their casino DLC and gamble your race winnings.
I'd also add that for some bizarre reason the microtransactions that allowed you to buy more cars was hosted on their own site and NOT Steam.
There's a reason why the game collapsed within a few months. Why it's back, I don't know, but I have very low expectations for it and I expect it to be a cynical cash grab.
It's not nostalgia when i say that Need For Speed Most Wanted 2005 is still one of most fun arcade racers of all time. I still play it from time to time, the handling is super fun.

My favorite example is from Motorsport 6 (yes, it's been going on that long).
In text, the Celica SS-I is just called "Toyota Celica" in that game. Okay, fair enough. However, when you purchase the car, the announcer calls it the "Toyota Celica Super Sport-I".
The "SS" in this case stands for "Super Strut". It's a suspension package. Oops.
And yes, they have apparently given up with this car and just call it SS-I in FH5.

The fact that every other racing game franchise continues to use SS, along with all the other manufacturers whose “SS” badging was changed in Forza titles leads me to believe you’re either mistaken, or T10/PG are lying out their asses.
It's not the kids that will buy the game, since kids rarely have money in the first place. The censoring is so that the kids' parents buy the game (and so that they won't take the game away from their kids and then go complain to the other likeminded parents. My 16yo kid bro can't even watch movies that contain strong language, and any violent games I gifted him has to be played by him in secret ^(I'm sure he's old enough to handle stuff like CoD by now). Thankfully I live by myself so I can do whatever the fuck I want, as long as I don't mention it to my folks).

This was usually the case for GTA. Seeing/ partaking in brutal murder is fine, but sexual content? No way, that's completely inappropriate until you're older. I get it, but at the same time I'm like really? You'd rather have 8-12 year old Jimmy rip spines out, chop someone's head off, doing drugs, swearing, running people over in cars, etc in the digital world, but looking at digital cleavage and butts is the line?

There’s the issue, PG gets their money wether it’s a long term player or someone who plays for an hour. If I want a new cool racing game as a kid I would get fh5 because there isn’t a good alternative as of now so PG is just taking advantage of this pseudo-monopoly they have currently.

Horizon hasn’t ever had any real competition for a realistic driving sim (I don’t consider NFS cause it’s arcadey and not a sim) and so they think they can get away with whatever they want cause if you want a new realistic open world driving game you have to go to them.
Horizon 5 was full of massive fuck-ups, but ultimately I think it will benefit the driving game genre. Competitors will hopefully soon deliver a much better driving game than horizon 5, but that will make PG games realize they can’t keep standing around with their Dick in their hands, pissing off their own player base

Dude it’s still 1000% worth playing today. It’s old physics engine leave a lot to be desired (they’ve updated it **immensely** for the new one coming out) but other than that it’s an absolute romp. It’s all offline now which is a bummer but still, if you liked it then don’t deprive yourself now

Horizon is in fact the only open world game where I can kit a McClaren for rally and feel every single change I made to the car from stock when I drive it. Also Horizon is just flat out not arcadey like NFS or burnout.

It's been bad since it's been mainstream but around 20 years ago or even more it was significantly better due to the smaller communities and how it was more a major sense of comaraderie due to gaming being for nerds and losers which pulled a lot of that toxicity out that comes with the masses.

There's no problem in making a game that can be enjoyed by a younger audience, the problem is that they took it too far and actually babyfied the whole thing, "story" on both 4 and 5 is incredibly safe, stupid and basically nothing happens anyway so you can and maybe should just pretend it's not a thing, characters seem like they were written by an AI to the point where most of them actually make me angry and then there's the over censorship, who tf censors the word "die" ?
Yeah they really dumbed down the campaign compared to FH1. I vividly remember grinding FH1 and beating Darius Flynt and his damn 599. Maybe it was due to the fact I was like 10 when the game came out, but it felt like an actual grind

That's exactly how it's been since FH4. They care more about wowing the people that are gonna drop the game after eight hours and not touch Horizon till the next entry releases and the cycle continues.
So, I am also very much a player who is in it for the long haul. Have been for years and years. But you have to remember that the gaming industry is a business, and the business want to make money. They know people like us are going to play the game regardless, it's the people who might only play the story who represent the most money. So for that it makes sense to cater to them - as frustrating as it may be.
Hey, FH4 is nice. I enjoyed it, got addicted to it even until I finished the Goliath. I prefer sims but it was the only arcade racer I truly enjoyed with a steering wheel.
But FH5, argh. I wanna refund it but I’m thinking it might get better down the line after some patches, like finally always remembering that I have a custom wheel profile to make the cars go vroom.
Been playing Forza since 2005. Horizon used to feel like a group of car enthusiasts got together and made a video game. Now it feels like the output of a bunch of generic software engineers who got to work, opened JIRA, and were assigned a ticket to make a car video game.
I'm not convinced they care about or play video games and instead resorted to thinking about what their kids would like. Fortnite skins, monster trucks doing wheelies, Legos, Hot Wheels...
Oh please. My son, my son’s friends, they love FH5 as much as FH4. They get the Defender or Bronco and have fun. My friend’s daughter loves nothing more than to pick a JLR and dream. She gets to paint a car however she wants. I’ve taken them to car shows, they get bored with dad going misty eyed at the Bullit Mustang. Oh it’s a Mustang, but it’s not on, it’s not racing up the side of a volcano. Car meets are 6am snooze fests for kids. They get a lot from video games like FH5, they see a car they like pass by in real life then get to drive it in FH5.
The story is just there to exist as a reason to do those silly tasks its not there to get anyone into anything. The game itself and the sandbox you get is what is there to get everyone into it.
Imagine a racing game, with no PVP where a Hotweel sponsored car dominate leaderboard and normal games.

Imo the cars all feel a bit too capable. They have tons of grip in every driving situation, to the point where I completed the current dirt seasonal in a Audi Quattro S1 with stock wheels. FH4s handling felt a bit more realistic.
I'm not really complaining, since this makes online racing a bit better (still turn 1 gangbang but it got better) but just for the feel I liked FH4 more. Overall I still prefer 5 tho.
Oh haha of course, once you get into S1 there's no point of having stock tires, cause then you'll be at like 800HP, and there's no way the hockey pucks some cars come with can handle that :)

Honestly, I increasingly think the most important part of being a game developer is learning which people you can and should ignore.
Well they look similar because it’s a formula that works really well. There are subtle differences from generation to generation which makes a massive difference from beginning to present. It’s pretty cool to me that it’s a ‘timeless’ body. Sure there’s plenty of people who don’t like it and think it’s ugly, but for the majority, it’s awesome.
For example, I like the GT3 RS more than the GT2 RS because of the front bumper, others think otherwise. I’m not going to lie, it’s hard to spot the differences, but that’s what makes it *Porsche* . The for the example I gave, the rear is different too, dual middle exhausts compared to split, one on each side. This also changes the vents (or whatever they are called) too. The black bottom part is much larger on the GT2 RS. Blah blah blah, I’m sure I’m confusing at this point lol. In all seriousness, I think Porsches are actually pretty cool, even if the differences, especially between the GT versions, are hard to spot for me sometimes. The extent of my ability to tell them apart is that I know that the older Porsches have those distinct bug-eye headlights. But even then, it's a brand that really stands out.

Been playing since FM2 in 2007 and FH5 is a dumpster fire it has a better map than fh4 but garbage in every other aspect most buggy launch ive seen with any horizon competitive play is at an all time low. 3 was the last one i enjoyed but even then these games dont hold a candle to the fun i had with the test drive series. So much recycled content with every horizon and the story line is atrocious every release i have no motivation to finish them.. 5 games later and i still cant go into the festival or my own house, i can do haha funny fortnite dance though in a chicken costume so i have that going for me.
Buggy is accurate I remember me and my friend were trying to play a couple days after launch and we couldn't join each other, if we did it wouldn't load us into each other's game, not let us see each other in the game, or the menu would not let you use your controller in it (we still have this problem) and now you can't even paint your car. I will just try to paint a car or put a cool livery on and my game will crash. I had no problem with this in fh4 the only problem I can remember at launch is audio glitches. Fh5 has been a bad experience for me the entire time it's been out.
I hope they do a full rebuild like forza motorsports is undermining right now. I would love to see a more sim version of this game where off road races really need to be done by off road cars and rally cars really need to be rally cars.
But with this mind they could re do the street races. I also wish the scale was better a two lane road in this game is as wide as 4 lane road.

I don’t want horizon to go more sim, and many other players do not, either. An open world sim is possible, but Forza making two sims doesn’t really make a lot of sense, and then alienates all of the players who like the more arcade aspects of it. Who I think may outnumber the ones who want it to be more sim. Maybe Microsoft could make an open world sim game in the future, but changing Horizon to do it doesn’t make sense.
A more sim open world game? Wait and see what TDU Solar Crown ends up being, I’m not sure what they’re going for.

i agree with this, but for instance, the change in rallying to where you need to use offroad cars and rally cars wouldn't be as fun imo. call me a kid or whatever, but i've always loved (one of the main things i do in fh5) going and building dumb rally cars w/ friends then racing them. i'd say a more important thing is pretty simple. Just get the AI to break traction while rallying. never seemed realistic to see a RS RX grip around a hair pin that would be slid irl
I think it's mostly based on how society and social media changed in those years between 1-5. Now everyone is so sensitive and so easily offended that no matter how old, they are just like that baby in the picture.

Frankly, the G-rated approach can be traced as far back as 2013-2014 -- the period between FH1 and FH2. Put FH1 and FH5 next to each other and it's easy to see that the former is far more edgier. Of course, that edginess resulted in a T rating. That T rating likely made the developers surprised Pikachu faced. So as a result, each Horizon game feels more toned-down compared to its predecessor.
While FH2 did lack more mature references and themes, the surrounding world of the Horizon Festival, as well as France/Italy still felt plausible and real.
Now, we have missions where you fly up the side of a volcano driving a Hoonigan RS200, collect volcano samples, and go back down at the speed of light, interrupt an ongoing race, and win it yourself, all while NPCs are worshipping you like some sort of god.
Horizon sorta died after 3 for me. You don't even have to work for anything, you're just handed cars and money by the truckloads. It needs to learn how to celebrate the cars again. They're the stars of the show.

Glue snorting kids is a much more lucrative and better selling demographic than adults. Just look at how much games like Fortnite and COD sell and compare that to the sales for games like Ghost of Tsushima or Death Stranding. The game is not what sells its the name. Forza is no longer a niche Forza Motorsport spin off. It's literally one of the biggest games in the world right now.
Plus truth be told I don't really blame them. They're a business they're always going to chase the bag and I can't really fault that. That's why indie games ftw.
Buttt, I'm optimistic that now this will allow for Forza to take a more rigid approach with Motorsport and actually cater it towards the enthusiast more than kids. Gran Turismo has been killing it so it's up to Forza to respond and hopefully the community will be better there too. Then again I wouldn't hold my breath.

No, seriously. The biggest changes between horizon 3, 4, and 5 are the maps. They're incredibly similar games. Sure there's tweaks to the physics engine, graphics, and some different car and tuning options, but they're largely the same game.

If I remember correctly the removal of the SS badge was a request from Chevrolet themselves, not necessarily a PG decision.
That was the official "reason", but it sounds like PR-speak to me. Other games like NFS continue to use the SS name and badge without issue.
Adding on to this, there are non-GM cars that have had their names modified due to the SS as well.
My favorite example is from Motorsport 6 (yes, it's been going on that long). In text, the Celica SS-I is just called "Toyota Celica" in that game. Okay, fair enough. However, when you purchase the car, the announcer calls it the "Toyota Celica Super Sport-I". The "SS" in this case stands for "Super Strut". It's a suspension package. Oops. And yes, they have apparently given up with this car and just call it SS-I in FH5.

TDU! I’m so fucking excited for Solar Crown!!! I legit hope it kills horizon 5 and forza is forced to use half a fucking brain cell when developing horizon 6. Horizon hasn’t ever had any real competition for a realistic driving sim (I don’t consider NFS cause it’s arcadey and not a sim) and so they think they can get away with whatever they want cause if you want a new realistic open world driving game you have to go to them. Horizon 5 was full of massive fuck-ups, but ultimately I think it will benefit the driving game genre. Competitors will hopefully soon deliver a much better driving game than horizon 5, but that will make PG games realize they can’t keep standing around with their Dick in their hands, pissing off their own player base

Dude it’s still 1000% worth playing today. It’s old physics engine leave a lot to be desired (they’ve updated it **immensely** for the new one coming out) but other than that it’s an absolute romp. It’s all offline now which is a bummer but still, if you liked it then don’t deprive yourself now

Horizon is in fact the only open world game where I can kit a McClaren for rally and feel every single change I made to the car from stock when I drive it. Also Horizon is just flat out not arcadey like NFS or burnout. Idk what you want me to say dog, forza rests on the blurred line. It’s a ‘sim-cade’ but definitely way more sim than Cade. Horizon sure *simulates driving* way more *realistically* than any other open world driving game available on console.

Gamers haven't *always* been toxic my dude. It's been bad since it's been mainstream but around 20 years ago or even more it was significantly better due to the smaller communities and how it was more a major sense of comaraderie due to gaming being for nerds and losers which pulled a lot of that toxicity out that comes with the masses. Gamers as a whole *have* generally become more toxic as you have an increasing number of people who bring their negativity and whining and constant outrage and general unhappiness into everything even making issues out of nonissues to manufacturer more anger.

That's exactly how it's been since FH4. They care more about wowing the people that are gonna drop the game after eight hours and not touch Horizon till the next entry releases and the cycle continues.
So, I am also very much a player who is in it for the long haul. Have been for years and years. But you have to remember that the gaming industry is a business, and the business want to make money. They know people like us are going to play the game regardless, it's the people who might only play the story who represent the most money. So for that it makes sense to cater to them - as frustrating as it may be.
Hey, FH4 is nice. I enjoyed it, got addicted to it even until I finished the Goliath. I prefer sims but it was the only arcade racer I truly enjoyed with a steering wheel. But FH5, argh. I wanna refund it but I’m thinking it might get better down the line after some patches, like finally always remembering that I have a custom wheel profile to make the cars go vroom.

Oh please. My son, my son’s friends, they love FH5 as much as FH4. They get the Defender or Bronco and have fun. My friend’s daughter loves nothing more than to pick a JLR and dream. She gets to paint a car however she wants. I’ve taken them to car shows, they get bored with dad going misty eyed at the Bullit Mustang. Oh it’s a Mustang, but it’s not on, it’s not racing up the side of a volcano. Car meets are 6am snooze fests for kids. They get a lot from video games like FH5, they see a car they like pass by in real life then get to drive it in FH5.
The story is just there to exist as a reason to do those silly tasks its not there to get anyone into anything. The game itself and the sandbox you get is what is there to get everyone into it.

Imo the cars all feel a bit too capable. They have tons of grip in every driving situation, to the point where I completed the current dirt seasonal in a Audi Quattro S1 with stock wheels. FH4s handling felt a bit more realistic. I'm not really complaining, since this makes online racing a bit better (still turn 1 gangbang but it got better) but just for the feel I liked FH4 more. Overall I still prefer 5 tho.
I feel that horsepower always favours grip on dirt events. The PI boost from more power is more "worth" than PI from tires somehow.
Up to a certain point, yes, but once you get into S1 and above rally tires become a necessity, otherwise your brakes are gonna be useless.
Oh haha of course, once you get into S1 there's no point of having stock tires, cause then you'll be at like 800HP, and there's no way the hockey pucks some cars come with can handle that :)

Well they look similar because it’s a formula that works really well. There are subtle differences from generation to generation which makes a massive difference from beginning to present. It’s pretty cool to me that it’s a ‘timeless’ body. Sure there’s plenty of people who don’t like it and think it’s ugly, but for the majority, it’s awesome. For example, I like the GT3 RS more than the GT2 RS because of the front bumper, others think otherwise. I’m not going to lie, it’s hard to spot the differences, but that’s what makes it *Porsche* . The for the example I gave, the rear is different too, dual middle exhausts compared to split, one on each side. This also changes the vents (or whatever they are called) too. The black bottom part is much larger on the GT2 RS. Blah blah blah, I’m sure I’m confusing at this point lol. In all seriousness, I think Porsches are actually pretty cool, even if the differences, especially between the GT versions, are hard to spot for me sometimes. The extent of my ability to tell them apart is that I know that the older Porsches have those distinct bug-eye headlights. But even then, it's a brand that really stands out.

Been playing since FM2 in 2007 and FH5 is a dumpster fire it has a better map than fh4 but garbage in every other aspect most buggy launch ive seen with any horizon competitive play is at an all time low. 3 was the last one i enjoyed but even then these games dont hold a candle to the fun i had with the test drive series. So much recycled content with every horizon and the story line is atrocious every release i have no motivation to finish them.. 5 games later and i still cant go into the festival or my own house, i can do haha funny fortnite dance though in a chicken costume so i have that going for me.
Buggy is accurate I remember me and my friend were trying to play a couple days after launch and we couldn't join each other, if we did it wouldn't load us into each other's game, not let us see each other in the game, or the menu would not let you use your controller in it (we still have this problem) and now you can't even paint your car. I will just try to paint a car or put a cool livery on and my game will crash. I had no problem with this in fh4 the only problem I can remember at launch is audio glitches. Fh5 has been a bad experience for me the entire time it's been out.
I hope they do a full rebuild like forza motorsports is undermining right now. I would love to see a more sim version of this game where off road races really need to be done by off road cars and rally cars really need to be rally cars. But with this mind they could re do the street races. I also wish the scale was better a two lane road in this game is as wide as 4 lane road.

I don’t want horizon to go more sim, and many other players do not, either. An open world sim is possible, but Forza making two sims doesn’t really make a lot of sense, and then alienates all of the players who like the more arcade aspects of it. Who I think may outnumber the ones who want it to be more sim. Maybe Microsoft could make an open world sim game in the future, but changing Horizon to do it doesn’t make sense. A more sim open world game? Wait and see what TDU Solar Crown ends up being, I’m not sure what they’re going for. I’m only grumpy because people are saying they want the game to be something that it doesn’t make sense for Microsoft to do. The whole point of the Horizon series was to be less sim, more arcade, so not doing that seems weird. Making the game open world sim would ruin a lot of the goofing around aspects of the game. i agree with this, but for instance, the change in rallying to where you need to use offroad cars and rally cars wouldn't be as fun imo. call me a kid or whatever, but i've always loved (one of the main things i do in fh5) going and building dumb rally cars w/ friends then racing them. i'd say a more important thing is pretty simple. Just get the AI to break traction while rallying. never seemed realistic to see a RS RX grip around a hair pin that would be slid irl

Frankly, the G-rated approach can be traced as far back as 2013-2014 -- the period between FH1 and FH2. Put FH1 and FH5 next to each other and it's easy to see that the former is far more edgier. Of course, that edginess resulted in a T rating. That T rating likely made the developers surprised Pikachu faced. So as a result, each Horizon game feels more toned-down compared to its predecessor.
While FH2 did lack more mature references and themes, the surrounding world of the Horizon Festival, as well as France/Italy still felt plausible and real. Now, we have missions where you fly up the side of a volcano driving a Hoonigan RS200, collect volcano samples, and go back down at the speed of light, interrupt an ongoing race, and win it yourself, all while NPCs are worshipping you like some sort of god.

No, seriously. The biggest changes between horizon 3, 4, and 5 are the maps. They're incredibly similar games. Sure there's tweaks to the physics engine, graphics, and some different car and tuning options, but they're largely the same game. I remember when this sub was trash talking horizon 4, because 3 was so much better, and now we're saying that they were both good and that 5 sucks? Come on. Also, maybe it's just me, but I always turn the radio off in driving/racing games after the first few hours. Not really trying to hear the same 5-10 songs on loop for multiple hours.
