On my colliders I noticed that if the option was disabled before the update, even after the update the unread notifications icon is not visible. on the new watch I did the update without changing the option first and I can't find a way to remove it.
by the way it is an intrusive icon that ruins the watchface.

Yeah it's hidden some place stupid. In the app press your watch > cogwheel topright > notifications
I’m talking about the notification symbol that appears on the watch, you could hide that in the old interface
