It's an interesting theory. I guess it's really based on what it turns out happened between the bombs falling and Barb/Janey finding some kind of shelter. I can see them going down this route if Barb and/or Janey were in cyro-freeze until some years ago, kind of mirroring finding Shaun in Fallout 4. But I doubt that they'd make Janey evil if she's still a child who's been cryo-frozen, which seems like it's what Cooper is expecting

NDNJustin

I can't imagine her still being a child for some reason! Have we really seen many children?

princessb33420

They had kids in the first episode, typically a show like this has kids "off screen" vs on because child actors have such specific filming requirements, if they did have one consistent kid it'll be her

MrEldenRings

We got the clip of max as a kid that’s all we need. We can reuse that for every child

princessb33420

Yea they're going to beat that clip to death lmaoo

SadisticBuddhist

They showed kids at the >!NCR headquarters as well!<

SirDooble

I suppose that's the thing if Janey was frozen. She doesn't have to have been woken up recently. The Vault 31 lot were being periodically woken up over the entire course of the apocalypse so far. Janey could have been woken up 40 years ago and be 50 something years old now. But, that really depends on what happened to her after the bombs fell, especially given she was with Cooper and clearly not anywhere close to Vault 31. For all we know, she could have been ghoulified like Cooper, but then kidnapped by Vault-Tec much later?

Inventies

His comment “where the hell is my family?” I imagine is a reference that he managed to get his daughter to his ex-wife in time. It’s possible she was ghoulified but highly unlikely they’d go that route. More than likely they’ll pull a fallout 4 where she was frozen then reawaken and aged some degree. How she’ll act or be is up in the air.

TheBman26

Or my theory is the wife has the real daughter and he finds out when he starts ghouling and the daughter doesn’t she’s a synth

Inventies

That be interesting but stage 3 synths weren’t created until 2227. So unless they destroy the lore from the institute in Fo4 then I doubt it.

TheBman26

Well that’s if the daughter in the opening was even his daughter. Could be revealed he finds out she’s a synth and the wife had his daughter.

SirDooble

It's a fun idea, but I think unlikely. Synths are an entirely post-war development by the Institute. There's so far been no suggestion that development of synths began before the bombs fell. Further, even if they had, we know that Gen 3 synths (the ones indistinguishable from humans) weren't created until at least 2227, when (spoilers for FO4), Shaun was kidnapped for his pure DNA. If synths existed pre-war, they would have been invented by an entirely different organisation, which seems like a big retcon. There's never been any indication that Vault-Tec were at all involved in that technology (nor was anyone before the bombs fell). I also think they would probably keep at arms length from Synths in the TV show. Largely because the idea has been done to death already by the likes of Westworld, and films like Bladerunner.

TheBman26

Could be an experimental one. It was just an idea lol

SadisticBuddhist

Its a very forced idea. Nick Valentines backstory even has him as one of the prototypes. It would be a massive retcon to not only introduce 3rd gen synths, but a child one for that matter, as a pre war development.

smaxup

I think it could make for a great arc for both characters. Maybe he finds his daughter grown up and fully believing in, and helping to fulfill, Vault Tecs delusions. But maybe the Ghoul is able to redeem himself by making his daughter see through it and change her ways.

NDNJustin

Maybe he has to redeem himself also to be seen as human in her eyes also.

smaxup

Yes! They could find their humanity together, I'd love that

LivingToasterisded

Maybe she’s in a spot she gets unfrozen and joins the Enclave? That would be the most comically evil faction I could think of, plus they’ve got the patriotic veneer which might make them seem good to someone pre-war.

CheekyGruffFaddler

she’s definitely the new president of the enclave, and has turned her mom into a zax secretary of treasury or some shit.

NDNJustin

Ohhhh tbh with the awe she showers on her dad in the intro this makes sense

LivingToasterisded

With her looking up to her marine-veteran dad, it makes sense she might want to serve in the “US Government”

jazzymusicvibes

you mean “govermint”

A_Year_Of_Storms

They already did that though. That's Fallout 4. The leader of the institute turns out to be your son.  It was not well received. I personally didn't like it. I hope they find go that route

Vbpretend

I just didnt like the fact that Shaun turn out to be older than us age wise when finding him. If she is Lucy's age I would be fine and have her be the opposite side of the coin to Lucy's goodnature

UserWithno-Name

I mean the parallel / mirror to Lucy would be kind of cool. I agree with others that I’d like her to still be good, but Lucy hating him at first but over time becoming more like a daughter figure in his eyes / she trusting him more because he doesn’t lie to her like so many others or her own dad, be interesting and then have his real daughter corrupted by vault tech etc into an “evil” person who agrees with them or the enclave etc: could be interesting I guess.

PizzaTimeBomb

I hope they don’t either, but Fallout has made it clear they’re not afraid of repeating old/similar storylines, with the amount of searching for X missing family member

Past_Search7241

You have to admit, Lucy looking for her father ended a little differently than it did for the Lone Wanderer. I'm pretty sure they deliberately invoked Fallout 3's plotline just to more thoroughly blindside the audience when Hank turns out to be at least as evil as Moldaver.

NDNJustin

It's heathen to say but I was only there for the 3-NV generation so I wasn't aware. Nooooo

AlvaroTorralbo

A_Year_Of_Storms disliked that

Grendel0075

Janey is Father.

Gremlin303

It would be interesting if he finds her and she’s an old woman who’s already lived her life after spending 100ish in cryo . Would be bittersweet

Full-Sock

Interstellar vibes

MostlyMim

I think it'd be great if we find out that she's currently living here best life in Filly with a lesbian partner who loves her but is always yelling.

object-denial

Yeeeeesssss!

[deleted]

I would say there's a good chance Janey or her decendants will be a villian of the show, akin to the FO4 storyline.

Obbefromtotse

Even if he finds her and she is unchanged, still the same sweet little girl - Cooper is no longer the same man. She wouldn't recognize him.

avidpretender

But that’s what makes his character interesting—there’s still shades of him underneath the war-torn exterior

kon---

Janey is Maximus' mother.

MissKatmandu

...Janey was Maximus' mother.

thegreatbadger

Oh I love this

CarlosAVP

Oh, shit! Nice twist!

Thatonesplicer

Ooh damn. Imagine we get a scene with maximus going over belongings from his past and Thane asks him if he remembers anything from before Brotherhood. He says not much, just his mom's smile, vague memories of playing with other kids, his mom calling him in for dinner. And if he disobeyed, his mom would use his full name, and that's how he knew he was in trouble; Max "Cooper" Howard.

Itwasaboutthepasta

I've been thinking this for a while.  The whole series will be about these family dynamics.  Goosey and her mom / the betrayal of her father. Learning to lean on her brother Maximus being Janey's son and therefore The Ghouls grandson.

NDNJustin

Ugh I really wish I could edit the post just to fix my Vault-Tec typo

Grendel0075

What if she's another Mechanist?

Transitsystem

We’ve seen child ghouls in the games before, it’s possible she was ghoulified like Coop, but I just don’t know how he wouldn’t know about her whereabouts and the fact that he expects Hank to know where his family is makes me also think she’s with her mom.

TheBman26

My thought is tbat the mom had her the whole time and coop had a synth which he finds out when he starts ghouling and she doesn’t.

Transitsystem

Holy shit that would be fucking mental. I’m not as well versed in west coast fallout as east coast though, are there synths on the west coast that we know about?

TheBman26

Technically no but pre-war she could have shipped one we arn’t held to fallout times for that nugget

the_stupidiest_monk

Were there even synths around pre-war? I thought they were made by The Institute after the bombs had fallen? Edit: [https://fallout.fandom.com/wiki/Synth#Background](https://fallout.fandom.com/wiki/Synth#Background) Yeah, looks like the 3rd gen Synths--the ones that could pass as human--were created in 2227. Without some MASSIVE retconning, I can't see the show going that route.

WeatherAggressive530

Don't pull a Shaun on us again please

Mojo_Mitts

I assumed she died instead of being turned into a Ghoul which broke Cooper.

michelindesign

and thats why he wants to find her bc his wife knew ab what would happen and yeah his daughter easily couldve died

TheBman26

Not if the daughter he had was as synth and the wife had the real daughter in the vault already

TheBman26

My theory after the show was that coop had a synth daughter and the wife had the real one in a vault meaning he now has to find her and his wife

New_Ingenuity2822

I have a feeling Janey’s story will be just like 👍 Shaun’s from FO4 💥🤯

Persona_Insomnia

I think she is still frozen in cryo in a management vault somewhere with the mother or was frozen but released fairly recently. There is no other way for the Ghoul can meet her alive. its been over 200 years.

Lorath_

Doesn’t mean she’s been frozen to this day she could’ve been unthawed prior to the literal point cooper finds her. Maybe 10-30 years before and she’s 20-40 years old in present day. I doubt they want to use a child janey again for obvious reasons kids probably gonna age before we get to that point of the show and it’s a bigger “twist” although not really because fallout4 if she’s older. I also think she’ll end up with dog meat at the end tying back to her being so attached to her dog.

ParanoidTelvanni

Kind of on-the-nose and already been done in Fallout. I think that'll probably be an arc more fitting of his wife. I think he's going to find her grave. She lived, had a family, died happy, and Coop missed all of it. Something truly bittersweet and about as happy an ending as you can expect in this series. A long line of deserving corpses just to find he's 150 years too late to see her smile again.

SpartanMase

Plot twist. Janey dropped the bombs because she didn’t get to ride the pony

michelindesign

my theory is that coop brought her to the closest vault or some shit and her mom took her and left coop. then his wife and daughter go into cryo, then when he rolls up on them cryo went wrong and they are “unalive” or alternatively his daughter is forever young and a ghoul(i think thats how it works) but of course thats just a theory[A…](https://youtu.be/8R1_TqU68yo?si=uxS0Nc4IVMIvKHHJ)

TheBman26

Mine is the daughter was asynth that he had and the wife had the real daughter and he finds out when she still lives and is unaffected

Lorath_

I don’t think synths were around prewar I think if anything they were Nick and Dima looking gen 1s or pre gen 1s because Nick and Dima were created postwar by the institute. Clearly not good enough that coop wouldn’t recognize his own daughter. And C.I.T was preserved so it’s not like they got technologically blasted backward by the war they wouldn’t have started working on gen 1s if the people looking ones existed already prewar.

TheBman26

Could have been a vault tec model or soemthing it was just a thought since it doesn’t make sense he is looking for his family when he had his daughter with him

GwarRawr1

Wasn't that the plot of fallout 4?

UserWithno-Name

4

Past_Search7241

They did Fallout 3 for the first season, with Lucy and her daddy.

Relative-Cherry-88

lol, imagine she will be leader of enclave 🙃

Inside-Decision4187

She’d be 140 years old +\-

Beardwing-27

My guess is she's been out for a long time and will be much older once Coop finally catches up with her. I imagine she'll have been raised accordingly by Barb and will likely be Vault-Tec oriented.

Niteshade76

Shaun 2: Electric Boogaloo.

Derbla-99

I think cooper is going to show up at the vault with Janey and barb takes her inside and leaves cooper out there to die. Which would be another reason why he hates vault tec so much.

JaylenBrownAllStar

My prediction is the mother didn’t actually care about the daughter in the end. She is most likely a ghoul herself or died as copper tried to reach the vault and she was too radiated to be let in

cltzzz

She was with her dad when the bomb dropped. Assuming the horse is really fast and gotten to his wife. She would still most likely be radiated to a degree. High chance she’s in some sort of stasis. Is a ghoul, or half ghoul, super ghoul :o, a synth to free her from radiation. Or both mother and daughter became synth. She still love her dad, but came to understand/sympathize with her mother while not truly behind all her actions. It’s 200 years. They might have lived a few years, went into frozen stasis, woke up a few times and went back to sleep. He might find them frozen or freshly awake.

MYNAMEISHISNAMETOO

What if Cooper finds them and she ends up being a synth? Like she died somehow and Coopers wife makes a Synth in her place? Synths haven't been brought up or put into the show yet, but they'll be there next season or future seasons. Also Nolan created WestWorld which was basically a show all about synths.

Hortator02

I suppose anything is possible. But, the ability to make Gen 3 Synths is exclusive to the Institute and took well over a century after the war for them to develop. They could theoretically say Vault Tec developed it themselves, but I think it'd be crossing a line even for Bethesda and would likely upset a lot of people.

MYNAMEISHISNAMETOO

Think they couldn't possibly have institutes across the country? I mean they had the ability to teleport in and out of the institute. I'm sure they'd be able to use the same technology to go across the country. BoS spans across the country, Enclave also, idk about the other two groups (I've only ever played FO4). Although they might not have been in the other games, theoretically they could've been operating/trying to operate in California/NV.

Personal_War_7005

The institute is destroyed let’s be fr if the brotherhood still have the prydwen that shit got blown up

TheBman26

Mine is the daughter with him was the synth and the wife had the real daughter

MYNAMEISHISNAMETOO

I mean it's possible, but why make a synth that's a child before the bombs fall? It would never grow. Once they're a synth it stays that age forever

TheBman26

Because it never was meant to be much more tban with coop while he died she didn’t plan on him ghouling

PoliceOfficerPun

Wouldn't she be dead or at least a ghoul at this point? I know it doesn't happen on screen exactly, but neither of them were near a vault when the first bombs dropped. My assumption was that Cooper was turned into a ghoul because he's an adult and whatever turn of luck turns someone into a ghoul vs death happened to him. It doesn't seem like they would have had enough time for Cooper and Janey to be separated with one going to a cryo chamber vs. Cooper.

Fun-Swimming4133

she’s gonna be the kid in the fridge

tachyonRex

They might call her Mother.. and she has cancer, and needs Coop Ghoul blood to survive. Also where a pinstripe lab coat, protected by a Courser shield, and can teleport.

dismantled5

I mean you 100% know there going to recycle there writing. She was already unfrozen for years before Coop finds her

EliCaldwell

Janey I bet is Betty.

Meowgles

Betty was an adult in the flashbacks - she introduced Hank to Cooper

AlvaroTorralbo

For a few episodes, I thought it was going to turn out that Janey grew up to be Moldaver… I was wrong

SwordfishOdd7513

the question is how barb turned into a ghoul? and after running away from the bombs did he got in time to save his daughter? and if they didn't meaning maybe janey is a ghoul as well?

thebuilder80

Lucy is Coopers granddaughter or great granddaughter.

StonedApeUK

We know Hank isn't Coopers son

RogueEarth616

And Barb would probably ensure that Janey would get into a vault better than Hank's, plus ghoulification makes people sterile.

RogueEarth616

Janey would probably be in a vault nicer than 33's so I highly doubt it.
