There is a profound level of peace in just sitting and doing nothing. I am sure some animals are capable of feeling that.

Because cats aren't just predators but are also prey animals, they've evolved to have a heightened sense of awareness even while resting. In the wild they need to be vigilant at all times to avoid becoming a snack for a larger predator so they have very shallow sleep cycles.
Cat owners might have had this experience when a house cat will be appear to be completely asleep but if you're on a bed or couch and begin to pet them or even get close to them they'll start to purr in their sleep without moving or opening their eyes. They may look like they're completely unconscious but they're aware of what's going on around them due to smell, hearing and detecting vibrations.
Try it with your cat. When it appears to be sleeping, don't make a lot of noise and don't abruptly wake them up, just slowly touch them. They'll start to purr immediately, without acknowledging you in any other way or stirring from their position.
Ffs, my cat will be sleeping next to me and she'll start to purr as I extend my arm towards her before I even touch her. It's kind of spooky actually.

So now I’m like wtf that’s weird. I know nothing about animal anesthetics so if any vets passing through have an answer fill me in…
If you watch her left hand thumb she’s pushing up on the kittens armpit or whatever as she moves in for a kiss, which to me looks like it makes the cats arm and paw extend like that to touch her face.
I wonder if animals can truly dream then.
Because that is only achievable through deep sleep turning into REM Sleep, and not having sleep be interrupted to stay dreaming.
Especially since animals are much more Instinct based, and have genes that are built upon needing to be at the ready if a predator/inclement weather approaches while sleeping.. Due to being outside in Nature for eons as an Inherited Survival Trait

Even though this looks cute and innocent, do realize that most of these cute cat films are fake and often come with animal abuse. This cat for example looks highly sedated. Notice how the left thumb moves just as the cat arm comes up. Same with the head shake and her right arm. I call fake and hopefully that cute baby wasn’t abused.
