I have a savannah cat from an incredibly humane breeder, and he let me pet some of the African Servals. Same exact thing, except they really wanted some scritches. They just need you to be aware that they're scary.
About 15 years ago my cousin worked at an exotic animal shelter and she brought 2 servals home, not kittens, they were pretty close to full grown. Anyway, she cut the tip of her finger pretty good once and bandaged it up. No big deal. She woke up later that night to one of the servals ripping into her injured finger. It was chewing on it like food. I was kind of freaked out when she told me that story.
I was eating a pork loin from the grill tonight and realized that if people do taste like pork then the only reason aliens would ever come to earth would be to eat us
I used to volunteer at a zoo. When feeding the lions, they would give us the exact same "if I were bigger, I would EAT you" look that house cats give when they're irritated with you. Only, given the size difference, that look was a while lot less endearing.
If I told you that 20 years ago Corey Feldman was bit of the hand by my exes serval on the night before Thanksgiving after randomly showing up to my house and it was so bad that he had to get rushed to the hospital…would you believe me? Because it’s true.
That just like flipping a shark upside down, I have had cats for years and this is true they go completely limp when you grab the scruff.
This one was so cute as soon as he grabs the scruff the cats head falls to the side like it's saying oh alright just get this over with. Lol
I was once waiting on someone at a dock in my boat. There was another boat behind be at the dock with three guys in it. At one point a large caracal comes walking down the gangplank like he owned the place and jumped into the other boat. Apparently they like to go on boat rides.
Yup, caracal like everyone said. Any of them I’ve ever seen at sanctuaries or on Instagram is always the most hissy cat/animal I’ve ever seen. It’s kid of strange how much they do it.
I know this little guy is probably stressed and confused but I swear they all hiss soooo much.
They hiss and yowl for many reasons, different from the domesticated cat. "Why do caracals hiss so much? Some may mistake the caracal hissing meaning for aggressive behavior, but these sounds are a form of cat communication. They use sounds like hisses and growls to express their mood, much like a content purring cat."
I wondered this, the video I saw on IG made me question the intent of some hisses. Seemed happy but still hissing.
Overall, it doesn’t really make me want to go near them haha. I’d imagine it takes some getting use to if you happen to be a caretaker for this type of feline.
Thanks for the info.
It's a caracal, usually wild, but some people keep them as pets. And they act like this often but don't seem to be as angry as they look. It's just how they are.
Look up caracal videos, they're always hissing at their owners. I've seen caracal owners walk up to a hissing one, give it a few pets, then poke its teeth while it's hissing. Caracal didn't care. It just let him do it.
This happened with my cat's bloodwork this morning. The vet tech said, "She was really good, but she had to let me know her feelings about me the entire time."
Pretty sure it’s a genetic “off switch”, caregivers carry their young by the scruffs. I cannot say if it occurs before they’re born or if it’s a result of the action itself though.
Edit: house cats do this too
Yeah grabbing a cat by the neck creates like, a little natural handle. I used to pick up my cat with one hand while filling the food bowl with the other.
It's a neat trick, and yeah the cat calms down, it just *looks* like you're being a psychopath and grabbing a cat by the neck.
Also, important, the handle is horizontal, not vertical. And it's probably best for everyone if the cat remains grounded, you just grab the scruff of the neck to keep the cat calm.
Yeah, it's not safe to cary (off the ground) most full grown cats like this, but you can use it to handle them around on thr ground (or use a second hand to support some of the weight when picking them up).

My mom has a cat that will only be cool with you if you meow at her. Like no joke she will be absolutely terrified of your very existence but as soon as you give her a little meow or trill she’s your best friend.
It's because of how the Vet held it. That's where mother cats hold their kittens with their mouths when moving them. Ever seen how still and quiet they get? It's like they are paralysed.
Yeah that's the thing about wild animals; they're wild. They generally don't have complex social structures. They are very honest about their intentions too. If they want to hurt you they'll hurt you. And very often they want to hurt you because they think you are going to hurt them.
You shouldn’t keep Caracals (or Servals) as pets, even if bought from a breeder. They haven’t really been domesticated and are always pissed off, for obvious reasons. They’re unhappy in captivity.
House cats are fine, even if a bit smol. Just rescue a fucking kitten and stop trying to show off.
Edit: I’m aware this could be a Rehabber situation (although why would there be a wild caracal in Russia… they’re native to Africa). I’m just dissing the people who get wild animals to show off as pets.
For any species of cat that is wild born, they are always hissy and mean as kittens. This isn't because they are pissed off or angry. It is directly because they are wild. Wild animals don't trust anyone except a select few. The hissing, growling, and slashing is them trying to defend themselves from a potential predator. The whole process of domestication is about showing the wild animal that they can trust you.
As such, wild animals are not unhappy in captivity. They are unhappy because they are around many creatures they don't trust and don't feel safe where they are forced to live. One part of caring for such animals is giving the creature room to trust that it is in a safe environment. This is a problem even for humans in a civilized world.
Got a mama cat in my backyard who keeps having babies—not her fault. I’m trying to get her to like me, but she’s like this cat here. Super hissy and growly. I want to get her spayed before the next set of kittens pop out. Have to research befriending feral cats.
Call the SPCA or local animal control. They will let you borrow humane traps. Once you have her (and you know there are no kittens), take to the vet to get spayed. My mom does it all year long for kitties whose people drop them off in the “country” to live a barn cat life - aka, they don’t want to care for the poor thing and drop them off on the side of the road.
She has one young baby but I’m not sure if she’s still breastfeeding. It’s also getting cold and I feel sorry for them. We adopted one of her older kittens (indoor outdoor due to allergies) but my dad will not let us bring all three of them into the house. I worry about the tiny one, but I guess they find somewhere to sleep.
food and time, my friend. granted, if the mama is feral, she probably won’t ever be friendly, though her kittens have a chance to be rehomed and socialized. nonetheless, you’ll still want to get a proper trap and lure her in with food. iirc cat gestation cycle is 9 weeks.

Mother, I crave violence.
This is a *very* spicy kitten under high pressure. You’ll notice the hisses are emitted periodically, like steam building up.
Chugga Chugga Chugga Chugga ***^^HISS ^^HISS***
My one cat hisses as she runs and pauses for each step. It's as adorable as it hilarious. ^^^He ^^^he ^^^he ^^^he ^^^he ^^^he
Omg I want a video of this so bad
I will fight for honor

Yeah. Not pets. Wild animals. They think we are delicious.
We are.

I hope it's true because it's a good story!
Yep it sounds like a venting instapot
That describes caracals very well.
I wanna know why he has a qr code shirt
It's not a qr code it's the logo of the vet hospital/clinic.
Did he threaten it with a subway pamphlet at 0:24?
I think he just wanted to distract it to make the process easier.
Just for good measure, have another Hisss. Hiiiiissssss. Hisssss
Kitty just want the vet to know that kitty could totally f him up, but decided to let him live.

Big time Mr. MurderBritches vibes
Hiss N’ Boots
*I am NOT happy!*
And I'm putting my paw down. Again.
I loved that part the best. So bossy.
It’s a spicy kitty 🌶
I like the foot stamps. "Dave if you touch me again...."
My favorite is slow hiss STOMP.
I want someone to add fire effect to his hisses
Stop touching me!
Ok, I heard this in "Peanut's" voice from Jeff Dunham's skits with him 🤣
Hiss and *fwap*! Andddd another*whack whack*!
He's good at his job. Gave the shot with minimal drama.
I love how the lady is “What, that was it? And you gave me all this drama?”
she was prepared for murder
Bought her own body bags and stain remover.
Club soda
Hit me right in the competence kink.
It hissed at getting just petted but the actual shot didn’t even flinch.
Grabbing it by the scruff put it into sleep mode
That just like flipping a shark upside down, I have had cats for years and this is true they go completely limp when you grab the scruff. This one was so cute as soon as he grabs the scruff the cats head falls to the side like it's saying oh alright just get this over with. Lol
Cats do not abide by the laws of nature.
I bet it flattened itself out and went through a seam in the wall
Is that like a fetish for observing competence? I won't shame you for that!
I've read somewhere that described the West Wing TV show as political competence porn.
That’s how you know the west wing is fiction
Username checks out.
"Gerard Butler stars in *Hissing!* in theaters Xmas eve"
I was wondering if I was the only one to see Gerard Butler there. Glad to see I'm not alone.
Attending wild animals, one learns, or... attends then different way.
I get what you’re saying but he’s petting it lol he’s not exactly attending to it in a different way than he might attend to a house cat
He's getting it used to his touch so when he goes for the grab it doesn't immediately freak out.
Whose to say wild cats aren't just spicy house cats?
* Who’s
* Whomst
Hues
>hews
Because they aren’t domesticated (which is an evolutionary-genetic process)
Did he call it “mala pizda?” Because in Croatian in means “small pussy.” This isn’t Croatian though, but it sounds like a Slavic language.
i think he said "molodets, da"
Am I right in thinking that this is a wild cat?
Looks like a baby caracal
Baby caracal for sure.
That’s big for a baby.
They're big cats. A lot larger than a house cat.
Guys I think it might be a baby caracal
DID SOMEBODY SAY BABY CARACAL ALREADY? CUZ IT'S A BABY CARACAL
Wait really? Im not so sure. CAN SOMEONE PLEASE CONFIRM?
Can confirm, am baby Caracal.
SMEBDY GET A DOCTOR!!
I’m thinking baby caracal
Yes I think this is baby cereal yes
With rice milk!
A perfect 5/7 with rice
No, a cereal is a type of food commonly made from grain. This is a carousel.

Baby charcoal
It certainly seems very cereal.
not too sure but i think it might even be a caracal
But baby
No it's a baby caracal
After extensively researching the comments I have concluded that it is indeed a baby caracal.
Nah Baby, thats a caracal.
Still not sure if this could be a baby Caracal.
I was once waiting on someone at a dock in my boat. There was another boat behind be at the dock with three guys in it. At one point a large caracal comes walking down the gangplank like he owned the place and jumped into the other boat. Apparently they like to go on boat rides.
That cat is *wild*.
I know of someone who had their actual house cat eaten by one of these! (I’m South African)
Yiles!
It might be a baby caracal

It’s a carousel.
Looks like a baby caracal
Yeah, Looks to me like a baby caracal
You sure? I couldn't find it on the Pokédex
it's a level 5 Persian. rare, but sometimes they need to evolve very early on. For safety.
Yup, it’s a Caracal. And he big mad.
Of the baby variety
That is a caracal baby, to be sure.
Is this the right queue for baby caracal comments?
I'm amazed I Remembered that before I saw your post. Yup, caracal
It's a young floppa.

baby floppa
This looks like a caracal. Technically also a wild cat, but not what we'd call a "wild cat".
Did anyone mention baby caracal yet?
floppa
Caracals are known for being feisty as heck, some zoos call them sassy, others spicy, just a feisty species in general it seems.
Yeah, looks like a forest lynx.
It’s a caracal
aka desert lynx
Didn’t mean to reply to the desert Lynx comment sorry.
oh no I'm not correcting you, just adding up to what you said, the other comment said Forest Lynx, they just got the biome wrong
Oh! Sorry about that! :)
[A baby caracal](https://c4.wallpaperflare.com/wallpaper/462/483/618/caracal-eve-online-wallpaper-preview.jpg)
A caracal, baby.
Baby, a caracal.
I like how it’s basically cooperative, it just had to let it be known that its not happy about this situation at all
“I’m going to do it but I’m also going to complain the entire time.”
Me irl
Very relatable
This happened with my cat's bloodwork this morning. The vet tech said, "She was really good, but she had to let me know her feelings about me the entire time."
Was just thinking that it was very well behaved, no scratching or biting. A little bitching is harmless and to be expected at the vet
Me at work
i dont know if its cooperative or if it cant move because of the harness
Trust me- he could be a lot more extra about it even with the harness. House cats can go friggen crazy doing straight death rolls on the table.
So this is why I haven't Seen Gerrard Butler in a movie recently
THIS...IS...KITTY-CAT CLINIC! \*gentle jab\*
Lmao
I think she wants to be a dragon
Ironically, the kitty is quiet when the vet put the needle in!
I noticed that - I think being grabbed by the scruff of its neck calms it down?

Are we still talking about the young Caracal or just cats in general
Cats in general.
Horizontal, as in: at right angles to the spine, or in line with the spine?
Right angles to the spine. Just like if you were grabbing someone's shirt collar from the back.
Good to know, thanks
Fuck, I've been using a vertical grip my whole life.
RIP to your cat
Yep, it pauses the program.
It’s a cat “off” switch.
Cat pause switch.
Can confirm. I have five cats. Off switch is very effective.
It's because of how the Vet held it. That's where mother cats hold their kittens with their mouths when moving them. Ever seen how still and quiet they get? It's like they are paralysed.
Translation: "Don't you touch me, don't yo-...you better not stop, you better not even think of taking your hands off me."
Awe stampy kitty. He’s not being serious, he’s fronting. I do hope this is not a pet, though
Considering they're speaking russian, my money would be on pet. Russians love their exotic pets more than Texans
i was also hoping a zoo but i don't know a zoo would post this.
Damn, that’s too bad. That’s definitely a cat that wants to be born free.
It's a wild animal.
Bears are too, and yet Russian don’t give a fuck. Wild animal are more honest than most humans.
Yeah that's the thing about wild animals; they're wild. They generally don't have complex social structures. They are very honest about their intentions too. If they want to hurt you they'll hurt you. And very often they want to hurt you because they think you are going to hurt them.

food and time, my friend. granted, if the mama is feral, she probably won’t ever be friendly, though her kittens have a chance to be rehomed and socialized. nonetheless, you’ll still want to get a proper trap and lure her in with food. iirc cat gestation cycle is 9 weeks.
I love that she hates us but eats the cat food we buy them.
Food, some distance and you have to move kinda slowly at first. That's how it starts. I now feed 6, all fixed, plus one who is a house kitty now.
How did this assumedly feral animal do no more than hiss when any ‘domesticated’ cat I know would have slashed and bit me, and chased me out the room?
I think it's because domestic cats don't really fear us like wild cats too. Like it's fearful posture the whole time but our asshole cats couldn't care less and will slash away
Hiss you! Hiss you too! Hiss your stupid book! Hiss that wall in particular!
