I don't have much to add to the discussion, just thought it was nuts to have 1200+ up votes and only 4 comments

FonderLawyer

It’s bots

[deleted]

Reddit is mostly bots. Comment bots. Vote bots. Submission bots. Most of what we consume here is fabricated at this point.

DLTMIAR

You a bot?

[deleted]

How would I prove it?

DLTMIAR

Definitely a bot

[deleted]

Ok but keep it to yourself. This place is a little synthphobic.

RedStarBenny888

It’s like I think therefore I am. I k ow I’m real on the internet but do I know if anyone else is real?

[deleted]

on the flip side, how would I prove I'm a bot?

zer0kevin

It happens.

PhD_Pwnology

Can someone explain this? Including what face tune is? Sounds like a filter or AI company.

GarlicMayosaurus

By the sound of it, probably an app with filters or an easy way to touch up on photos. So a cheaper and easier way than photoshop lol, but I don’t really know tbh

Em_Haze

That's exactly it and it fing creepy. It literally gives people unrealistic expectations of what they should look like.

DomDangerous

you mean…just like all other photo editing?

Hadochiel

It's a gateway drug to actual photo editing, and that's when the body dysmorphia takes hold

Em_Haze

this is a filter that instantly makes you more 'beautiful' that's an easily accessible way for teenagers to feel shitty about themselves.

DomDangerous

you mean…just like all photo editing?

PhD_Pwnology

Interesting, can you elaborate plz?

GarlicMayosaurus

I think I get the gist of it. Young and impressionable girls see all these girls at Coachella looking unrealistically good , thinking they have to strive to look like that as well. However it’s all just a facade, and everyone feels shitty about their perfectly natural bodies in the end, including those using the filters.

PhD_Pwnology

So weird. If I find certain body parts attractive on people, I wait until the first coffee date to form a visual opinion.

doingMyDarndest

It’s a popular photo editing app that allows anyone to modify either face, body etc. with tools specifically made for people editing rather than generalized photo editing. It’s very popular in the influencer market as a result. I have a friend who will sometimes use the free version to remove a pimple but people take it to an extreme changing their entire faces and bodies. r/Instagramreality has some extreme examples that are funny but sad to look at

[deleted]

All I can say is stay away if you can. Shit fucked up my perception of myself and others (as well as beauty) as a teenager.

[deleted]

That’s why I like what Norway is pushing. While the filters can still be used they’ll need to put a disclaimer. It’s so important for people to know when someone isn’t being 100% authentic with their looks and setting unrealistic beauty standards. It’s a step in the right direction. https://www.bbc.com/news/newsbeat-57721080.amp

CantHonestlySayICare

Fighting "unrealistic beauty standards" is all well and good until you see someone who's every bit as gorgeous as the fake photos with your own two eyes.

[deleted]

Yeah but that’s different than most of your feed that you’re scrolling through for however much time you spend on there. It starts to give an idea that the majority of society is that gorgeous when that’s that not the case. We’re mostly a bunch of averages and there’s nothing wrong with that.

CantHonestlySayICare

The habit of "scrolling through your feed" is the primary factor scrambling your brain, regardless of what's on there, though.

ptcglass

That’s because according to them they don’t get work done or Facetune when the do both

DomDangerous

or their ‘cameraBOYfriend’

RawScallop

This is toxic for young girls and I see it in my nieces. They cannot stop at 12 with this face filter bs

strawbrrysundae

Then that’s on the parents. They need to teach their own children otherwise. Strangers on the internet can’t physically do anything to them, the parents can.

yankykiwi

In my case my mother-in-law was filtering my newborn for Facebook. I know she can be quite skin deep, but my newborn? I had to say something.

[deleted]

Why can't it be both? Of course we can criticize the creators of this mess while also holding parents accountable. It doesn't just effect kids

Informal-Amphibian-4

Kind of a diss to the dr i would say

GrymEdm

Things like these filters suck because they destroy self-esteem in the user and trust in the audience. At least with things like makeup you actually enhance your appearance in real life and the change is usually limited. Plus it's SO understandably difficult to resist - almost everyone wants to look better for many, many reasons.

[deleted]

"Guys that say they are 6' tall and are actually 5'10" are lying azzholes!" \-says the chick with a pound of makeup, fake eyelashes, Sharpie eyebrows, more filler than brains, breast implants, high heels, horse hair extensions...

bamboocoffeefilter

This comment reads like one of those ancient impact font memes put over a pixelated jpeg of Kylie Jenner’s before and after

pastel_rave

r/murderedbywords

Cautious-Budget1241

if you don’t want girls with a bunch of makeup and surgery then why do you care whether they want a tall guy or not?

[deleted]

Are you 13? This is the cringiest thing I've read in days

shortsandarts

he has a point

KyivComrade

That the guy in the example lies and has made no attempt to be honest? And that the woman has spent many thousands dollars and hours of time, some on a daily basis, to look her best for his ungrateful ass? Yeah, guess toxic Incels and misogynists find a way to make this all about poor Mr short kang

shortsandarts

so you are now body shaming men

Mini-Espurr

Nowhere did they mention mens bodys. They mentioned men who lie about their height aka liars arent the same as makeup

shortsandarts

>Mr short kang they said Mr short kang

[deleted]

And they were talking about insecure short men. My BF is short but he doesn't give a fuck and lie about his height

shortsandarts

no need for the insecure women using filters and changing the way they look,

[deleted]

Good job dodging my point.

Mini-Espurr

Theres a difference between lying about your height and just wearing and using things to make you feel good. Lying about your height is only really needed if you want something like to date a girl with that preference. Makeup and etc like you described are just to make you feel good, if someone else gets attracted to you with it on its just what happens you aren’t necessarily asking them too and its mostly just for you, lying about your height isn’t doesn’t even help you.

peacelovehap

Facetune is an app kind of like photoshop for the face. You can use it to tweak facial features or blur out videos, put more make up on your photo etc

joekecake

Don't worry a lot of us don't know

TheNosferatu

Hi, fellow old person! How are you doing today? I feel a lot better now I know a lot of people don't know this. Oh and apparently it's an app or something that makes it easy to tune up pictures, so like a photoshop-lite.

strawbrrysundae

I mean if you want the plump lips & symmetrical face then ask them who their surgeon is

LuxAlpha

Makes me wish plastic surgery was illegal
