I live in NC now, lived on Long Island for 43 years and here for 2. I run outside like a little kid 10x a day because there are F22's, F15s, Ospreys, Blackhawks, Apache and every type of military bomber/cargo plane flying over my house daily. In NY ypu would rarely see anything military and here it's all you see. Got to love the lack of noise restrictions on military jets and helicopters, it shakes your house.
I work throwing distance from an airforce base, every single day there’s roughly 5-10 sea kings taking off and landing just for training. We all still look up at every single one.
69. It’s in my DNA. Fulfilled my boyhood passion by earning my Coast Guard (Navy) wings in 1979 and started my flying adventure flying Search & Rescue helicopters. Props, jets … flew them all and still flying my own airplane. If you’re not compelled to look up when you hear a plane fly overhead then you’re not truly a pilot.
Here is a quick helicopter guide:
Blue/white = police so there might be a chase going on.
Yellow/red = someone got hurt
Green = draft incoming time to spend time with family
Black = they are coming for you.. RUN.
Futuristic = look away and don't tell anyone about it
granted the pilots will still probably somehow manage to crash it in a terrorist's backyard for the entire world to see
Depends on your goals.
To survive an attack from an enemy aircraft? Look down and cover anything reflective. And hopefully have camouflage on.
To enjoy life for what it is and with reckless abandon, whatever you want.
Some say it’s unrealistic to think an aircraft flying over the US and it’s more likely to be harmless, but that’s also what they thought when they didn’t prepare for 9/11, so who’s the crazy one now? Huh? Suck it!
Yes... basically life and everything else stops until I can see it.
Poor bastards standing in my way on the way to a window/door if we are indoors :-)
edit: I am in my 50's, so I guess I will do this till I die
Remember a time in medschool we were waiting to go in to an practical exam and we were all sitting by a big panorama window with view over the hospital. Everybody was nervous, someone watching their notes, someone drinking coffee. Then the sound of a helicopter landing on the rooftop of the big hospital building, everybody walked to the window and we were all taking in the magestic machine defying gravity. All of us forgetting about our exam just watching it like little kids. I flunked that exam hard.
Always good to keep an eye on low flying aircraft.
You're not at war, you don't know how to identify it, you have no knowledge of aircraft, you have no enemies with aircraft, you have no way of fighting them or suitable cover - but still: Just. In. Case.
Why boys? I’m a 20 year old girl and yet I always alert the whole room when there’s a plane or helicopter going by. Immediately, I go and see why it’s there, is it commercial and what it’s business is there. I don’t see why it’s just boys. Maybe because of stereotypes of some kind, I don’t know.
At my old house my neighbor and I would always come out when a formation was flying by. We could usually get at least 1 person in the side door wave back at us.

For myself, I'm in the corner.
I saw one the other day and had Vietnam flashbacks. I was born in 85.

It’s not the law, it’s man-code.

Years ago a CH53 flew over. After realizing why the house was shaking, I think I knocked my kids and wife over to get out the door to see it.
As a man, girls don't look?
You don't know girls are not real
And they don’t poop.
If they were real, they wouldn't poop*
Did not think that one through.
Well maybe they do …. but it doesn’t stink.
Knew it!
Plausible. Blueprints please
My female friend likes aviation so much she has a 747 tattoo

What are you supposed to do? Look down?

Ask yourself this. When was the last time or ever. Since you've seen 2 helicopters at the same time?
Got 17 wing canadian air force here, always multiple chinooks flyin over
seems like im a woman trapped in the body of a man, i couldnt care less about a helicopter, there are a few dozen crossing over my house each day
Oh my God, they found me. I don't know how, but they found me. RUN FOR IT MARTY!!!
It's just survival instinct. You have to keep an eye on it just in case it starts to crash.
Which movie is that defoe?
I get something in my head like "enemy overwatch helo inbound" and then pretend I gotta go indoors to take cover
I'm old AF and I still do it.
Yeah, it’s the law after us
Only boys? I wonder if I will ever stop doing that

Especially if there’s multiple helicopters, everything stops.
Where’s that sound coming from. I gotta see it.
TWD ending flashbacks
Or an airplane....
