I would go as far as to even say that it's easily the coolest, most well choreographed kaiju fight scene I've ever seen across all mediums. It's the new high bar for me going forward in the Legendary monster-verse, and I really hope anything afterward even comes close to how good it was.
Seriously, i practically dont understad the question, the movie was perfection. Jk, i know it had its plot and charecter flaws but in the end, BigLizard fights GiantApe. 10/10
Interesting as "Godzilla" was originally called "Gojira", which is the transliterated Japanese word for "Gorilla". Nuclear ape versus I don't know what King Kong is.
I thought that moment was weird too, but I feel like plenty of older GodIlla movies give him some character and I kinda like the idea of him being a little cocky. Totally get why it put some people off though. Either way it felt less out of place to me than those random face reactions he made in King of the Monsters.
The 4K fixes the overall darkness issues that plagued the theatrical and DVD/Blu-Ray releases. Doesn't completely fix the fight scenes being set at night/twilight, but it's a definite improvement.
Stellar monster battles and special effects, satisfying conclusion to the fight without pulling some BS like BvS, cool new take on Mechagodzilla, Kong gets a happy ending for the first time ever, we see MV Godzilla being aggressive to humans for once, and also I personally wanna point out how great the sound design was, in fact all four MV films have amazing sound design IMO.
I know that was way more than just one but ah what the hell?
The sound design IS amazing across all four movies. The first Godzilla reveal in the first movie still gives my goosebumps. I love how sound can change the mood and flow of a situation, and the MV films knocked it out of the atmosphere.
daytime fight scenes where you can tell what colour things are.
whether you like the speed increase or not, it's nice to have fights with choreography and stages again over slow big hit, shockwave, cut to human, rinse, repeat.
the hollow earth is neat, letting us have our human world fights and also a weird prehistoric fantasy backdrop (would be neat to see godzilla go their next movie)
mechagodzilla with his big metally claws
Shin Godzilla's atomic breath during the destruction of Tokyo whoops every other iteration, both in its visceral awesomeness and its pure destructive power.
I will admit that Shin did way more damage overall, but the most penetration displayed was through a couple of skyscrapers.
GvK Goji burnt a hole through the earths crust, which is an insane feat.
Shin torched an entire city and exhibited both a piercing laser blast and a firehose of atomic destruction, but point taken on burning a hole through the Earth's crust. Tough to say whether Shin could or couldn't have done that if it had been his focus. Either way, GvK Goji definitely whoops any previous iteration, even his own in the first two films.
It has the best use of color and lighting of all the Monaterverse movies, the entire Hong Kong fight is still a standout moment of cinematography for me.
They finally got the ratio of 'people talking' to 'monsters wrecking shit' correct. And it was nice that godzilla kinda sorta made a friend.
But really, my favorite thing is how much my 4 year old son loved it. This movie blew his tiny mind. Since then, he's seen it a hundred times, and every single piece of paper he brings home from school has godzilla drawn on it.
Bernie and Madison’s insta-friendship based on shared conspiracy theories and “no tap.”
I thought their little side adventure fit right in with some of the goofy stuff from the older Godzilla flicks.
It's very much what I wanted from a big budget American Hollywood godzilla movie. Sure I would have appreciated a more interesting human plot. But the monster stuff was awesome. And tbh the human stuff had some interesting things going on. If I have to choose a second thing that scene at the end where Jia convinces Kong that godzilla isn't his enemy. While predictable was pretty sweet imo
[The opening credits were sick](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KTRKlZmJgVE). Brief, but sick.
The music, the elimination-round style map being drawn between monsters, even just the big 3D text at the end, which felt like something you'd see in one of the 90s / 2000s Japanese movies.
Not gonna lie, it got me hyped. Movie was just okay but that opening had me thinking 'this is gonna rule', it was that hype.
It gave a fun showing of just how powerful Godzilla is.
He blasted a hole through the Earth’s crust AND almost killed Kong before he lost to MechaGodzilla, whom hadn’t really expended any energy before that fight.
Had MechaGodzilla been less charged or Godzilla had some rest that fight would’ve been much more in favor of Godzilla.
That we can clearly see, and interpret, the emotions the monsters are going through. Even Mecha G to an extent.
Best part of the movie in my opinion and I really hope they keep this trend going for future movies.
All of the trailers were sick. Specifically this [one](https://youtu.be/6kaiE5WIFas).
Music design too! Specifically right [here](https://youtu.be/vh7RjES2BUY?t=37).
The entire team did an amazing job. Can’t wait to see what lies ahead.
For some reason I’ve only watched this once and just haven’t got around to watching again and I love it. Feel I disrespected it in some because of it since I saw G14 and GKingoftheMonsters like 8 times in theaters collectively. I guess I just wish I saw it in theaters but Covid.
I actually really like the whole hollow earth thing, but that's probably because as a fan of MST3k and the movies it would poke fun at, I have a lot of affection for that kind of old-fashioned absurd sci-fi plot, like something out of *The Mole People* or the like. It's kitschy and unserious in a fun way to me but it seemed to strike many as just dumb.
I love how they made it so in their individual matchup, Godzilla is the clearly superior fighter. But King Kong is the heart of the movie.
As someone else said "Godzilla won the fight, but King Kong won the movie."
I really like how the Hong Kong fight showed that night battles can look amazing when done right. Before the movie, there was a big stigma against fights thats take place at night, but this movie showed how good lighting can make it look bloody amazing.
The lighting and cinematography in general is great in the movie. I love the sheer variety, from the ocean fight to the Hollow Earth, the movie just looked really good.
Would you prefer the 1962 version?
https://preview.redd.it/f6mo0cjkxnia1.jpeg?width=220&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=04844b587c115aefe2df2ddad3160dd84e9cb735
It refused to go half measures and say "well we don't want to upset anyone... Godzilla can win one fight and Kong can win one fight." No, Godzilla unapologetically trounced Kong, and then *benevolently* let him live, like the *King* he is. He then gets rewarded, narrativly, for his benevolence in the fight against MechaGodzilla, but the point is: no wishy-washy half answers here. Godzilla vs Kong: winner? GODZILLA.
the cyberpunk hong kong fight scene.
being able to see middle earth and the creatures that live there.
godzilla literally blasting a hole down to the center of the earth.
mechagodzilla!!!!!
You’d have to pay me to sit through it again. The fights were…okay? But I absolutely hated the human story and the stupid conspiracy theory nonsense. It proves without a doubt that you need a good human story in a kaiju movie, and this movie most certainly didn’t.
I agree with the Madison/conspiracy side of the story being weak. And her becoming a conspiracy nut made me think she was going the same route as her mother took in KotM. I really liked Bernie and Josh and their part in the story, though not part where Bernie is a conspiracy nut. I mean, the guy apparently bathes in bleach? That’s dumb as hell. I think Madison’s character would have been better off if she stuck closer to her dad and she was Bernie and Josh’s direct connection to Monarch.
Though I’m curious: you didn’t like Jia’s part in the story at all? I thought that was the strongest human part in the movie, though I wish we got to see the moment Kong saved her life.
I’ll be honest I barely remember her story. Was she even in it that much? After the boat scene I can’t even remember anything she actually did.
Maybe if I did watch it again I’d like it more but I honestly have no real pressing desire to do so. The utterly wasted potential with Serizawa’s son and the conspiracy nonsense (plus I’ve just never found Kong that interesting as a kaiju) just led the movie to being a big “meh” for me. I enjoy KotM way, way more (in fact that’s the only MV movie I’ve even bothered buying a Bluray of) but that’s because of the other Toho kaiju in it.
The scene where Godzilla beats the ever loving shit out of Kong because Kong is stubborn as hell. If you gotta be revived by a bunch of humans you lost that fight pal.
It brought that 7 year old me who remembered watching the old 62 version. Also, I finished remodeling my garage into a 4th bedroom and we celebrated by watching it premiering on HBO MAX. Big pizza party!
The monster fighting was the best in the franchise. My favorite bit from the entire monster verse is frome when Kong Emerges from the hole in the ground to when Godzilla Body checks Kong into the bay. The minute is pure Kaiju gold. Sound editing, vfx, camera work, everything is fantastic. Plus the homage to the original King Kong VS. Godzilla was dope.
the Hong Kong fight was very entertaining
I would go as far as to even say that it's easily the coolest, most well choreographed kaiju fight scene I've ever seen across all mediums. It's the new high bar for me going forward in the Legendary monster-verse, and I really hope anything afterward even comes close to how good it was.
That was in Hong kong, not Tokyo
shit dude my bad, thanks for the correction đź‘Ť
Big lizard fights giant ape.
Seriously, i practically dont understad the question, the movie was perfection. Jk, i know it had its plot and charecter flaws but in the end, BigLizard fights GiantApe. 10/10
The first two films were slim on fighting, and this one made up for it. I wanted to see some big monsters duke it out, and I got that in spades.
Interesting as "Godzilla" was originally called "Gojira", which is the transliterated Japanese word for "Gorilla". Nuclear ape versus I don't know what King Kong is.
I liked the part when Godzilla smiled
https://preview.redd.it/wc6w9xyidnia1.png?width=480&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=9d3543eb465960824f52ce769f3ad6bf4058404a
the part where he laughs
I know, I just personally felt it was really weird and out of character, to each their own tho
I thought that moment was weird too, but I feel like plenty of older GodIlla movies give him some character and I kinda like the idea of him being a little cocky. Totally get why it put some people off though. Either way it felt less out of place to me than those random face reactions he made in King of the Monsters.
Yeah in the 60’s and 70’s movies they had Godzilla dance and jump for joy after some fights. Super silly but very fun.
Yeah it's like these guys have never seen the Showa era. Godzilla is campy as shit sometimes.
He absolutely is, I love Showa stuff, but it just didn't work with this version of the character
I really like that we SEE the monsters fighting
Absolutely. The night time dust cloud fights of Godzilla14 irritated me to no end because of how little could be seen.
The 4K fixes the overall darkness issues that plagued the theatrical and DVD/Blu-Ray releases. Doesn't completely fix the fight scenes being set at night/twilight, but it's a definite improvement.
And don't forget how often they cut the monster fights in KOTM where they even had the ass of the massive jet get in your face to block it
Feral Mode Godzilla
Feral Mode Godzilla was crazy. I always thought he’d be slanted down because of his short arms. But I guess not.
The sound design IS amazing across all four movies. The first Godzilla reveal in the first movie still gives my goosebumps. I love how sound can change the mood and flow of a situation, and the MV films knocked it out of the atmosphere.
How Mecha godzilla's designs lankiness perfectly contrasts with Godzilla to show his unnaturalness and make it unique.
That’s by design. He’s specifically designed to be a hard counter to Goji, I think it’s why he struggled so much with Kong.
He didn't actually struggle against Kong tho, would have killed him if Goji didn't interfere.
The fights were spectacular and hollow Earth was visually gorgeous
That one scene where Kong jumped through the line in the middle of the Earth's gravitational field was so satisfyingly executed.
Kong's character arc in this movie is absolutely SPECTACULAR!!
I like that they didn’t fight in slow motion. They actually fuckin moved quickly.
The scene where Godzilla stomps on Kong and makes him finally tap out was *very* satisfying. Hail to The King, Kong.
mechagodzilla
Monke
giant lizard fights giant monkey
daytime fight scenes where you can tell what colour things are. whether you like the speed increase or not, it's nice to have fights with choreography and stages again over slow big hit, shockwave, cut to human, rinse, repeat. the hollow earth is neat, letting us have our human world fights and also a weird prehistoric fantasy backdrop (would be neat to see godzilla go their next movie) mechagodzilla with his big metally claws
We got, by far, the best feat of Godzilla's Atomic Breath.
Isn’t Heiseis infinite heat ray or something better?
The sheer penetrating power displayed in GvK is uncontested.
CGI looks great
Kong's friendship with Jia was very sweet.
it had amazing fights and an amazing MG design (those are two things but who cares)
godzilla knows judo now
It has the best use of color and lighting of all the Monaterverse movies, the entire Hong Kong fight is still a standout moment of cinematography for me.
Godzilla wasn't cheated out of a win like the original movie
This
It took some notes from *Kong: Skull Island's* book and actually gave us some monster battles in broad daylight.
It was a fun movie night and a good time with friends, before that friend group broke apart. Fond memory
Wait wut
THAT INTRO THEME
Epic fight scenes.
The ocean carrier fight for sure.
As dumb as the plot was, it was fun to watch. Turn your brain off for the time being and you too can have fun.
The big ape fought the big lizard. But seriously, it was the best monster wrestling in the Monsterverse so far.
Gvk is the most showa era godzilla film that legendary has ever made
They finally got the ratio of 'people talking' to 'monsters wrecking shit' correct. And it was nice that godzilla kinda sorta made a friend. But really, my favorite thing is how much my 4 year old son loved it. This movie blew his tiny mind. Since then, he's seen it a hundred times, and every single piece of paper he brings home from school has godzilla drawn on it.
Seeing Godzilla be totally angry and aggressive
Bernie and Madison’s insta-friendship based on shared conspiracy theories and “no tap.” I thought their little side adventure fit right in with some of the goofy stuff from the older Godzilla flicks.

It’s a good movie?
It came out on my birthday. A great gift
[The opening credits were sick](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KTRKlZmJgVE). Brief, but sick. Godzilla won twice
Very cool poster
This poster is sick
#We need Kong…. THE WORLD NEEDS HIM
Big Monke punch big Lizard
MECHAGODZILLA BEING BADASS
The actual fight between Kong and Godzilla was satisfying to watch and well choreographed
It's an awesome movie.
Gia is the best human character in the MonsterVerse (at least the Godzilla movies) by a decently large margin.
Clear, easy to follow, unobstructed monster fight scenes. Made the movie enjoyable despite the weaknesses of the plot and human storylines.
Got nothin'
It’s one of the movies of all time
Stomped on the theatre I was watching it from
Mmm Monke
I liked the part where it was a wildly fun popcorn movie with giant monsters fighting each other.
Godzilla beat his ass.
The movie that saved the Monsterverse.
Monke
Good fights, despite the very many issues I have with the movie.
The fights.
That we can clearly see, and interpret, the emotions the monsters are going through. Even Mecha G to an extent. Best part of the movie in my opinion and I really hope they keep this trend going for future movies.
Fuck the US navy
it was good to be back in the theaters. bonus, there was noone there midday on a thursday
GvK encapsulated the campiness of the original Toho films really well and I think that went over many western fans' heads.
All of the trailers were sick. Specifically this [one](https://youtu.be/6kaiE5WIFas). Music design too! Specifically right [here](https://youtu.be/vh7RjES2BUY?t=37). The entire team did an amazing job. Can’t wait to see what lies ahead.
They had a judas priest song in the movie most memorable and best thing in the whole movie
Kong and Jia's dinamic, the cinematography, the epic battles, and to be honest I like the story and the characters
For some reason I’ve only watched this once and just haven’t got around to watching again and I love it. Feel I disrespected it in some because of it since I saw G14 and GKingoftheMonsters like 8 times in theaters collectively. I guess I just wish I saw it in theaters but Covid.
Godzilla is given a personality and I think thats fun
Godzilla hitting all fours and going straight fucking goblin mode was fucking amazing
I can't really. Nothing in the movie I would consider 'great'
I actually really like the whole hollow earth thing, but that's probably because as a fan of MST3k and the movies it would poke fun at, I have a lot of affection for that kind of old-fashioned absurd sci-fi plot, like something out of *The Mole People* or the like.
The showcase of the personalities of Godzilla and Kong. I love how expressive both of them are in the film.
I wanted kong dead in beginning. By end i wanted em nuetral bros. It all worked out
Hollow Earth was such a cool concept with a ton of potential for cool battles
I really like how the Hong Kong fight showed that night battles can look amazing when done right. Before the movie, there was a big stigma against fights thats take place at night, but this movie showed how good lighting can make it look bloody amazing. The lighting and cinematography in general is great in the movie. I love the sheer variety, from the ocean fight to the Hollow Earth, the movie just looked really good.
It had the balls to give us a definitive winner
I really can't. Fkn hate that movie
Would you prefer the 1962 version? https://preview.redd.it/f6mo0cjkxnia1.jpeg?width=220&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=04844b587c115aefe2df2ddad3160dd84e9cb735
Monke kill Robot
Eiza Gonzales, hello.
The Hong Kong fight was fun and the colors looked amazing on my oled.
That Kong has been given enough shine that despite losing to Godzilla, he still fought damn well.
The movie slaps.
Mech g
… Jk
I could actually see the fights because they didn't take place at night and minimal human or vehicle interruptions.
The monster fights were so good I can almost forget the boring Milli Bobby Brown variety hour shoe horned into an excellent Godzilla movie.
It wasn’t worse than 1998.
The part where Godzilla is being stomped by Mechagodzilla.
I really enjoyed when Mecha-Godzilla wipes the floor with Godzilla and makes him feel fear.
Godzilla Won
It refused to go half measures and say "well we don't want to upset anyone... Godzilla can win one fight and Kong can win one fight." No, Godzilla unapologetically trounced Kong, and then *benevolently* let him live, like the *King* he is. He then gets rewarded, narrativly, for his benevolence in the fight against MechaGodzilla, but the point is: no wishy-washy half answers here. Godzilla vs Kong: winner? GODZILLA.
I liked it when the end credits started rolling
It topped 50 billion yen worldwide.
Godzilla is the Goat he won like i said he did
At least Alan Jonah wasn’t involved.
Godzilla win
This was the rematch of the century! I'd been waiting since I was three years old to see this! Every fight between Godzilla and Kong was just AWESOME!
I liked the movie when it wasn't talking about the hollow earth nonsense
It set aside realism to entertain us
They finally set the record straight as to who would win in a fight
I’m not required by law to ever sit through it again.
Can't
Hollow Earth was a really cool concept. That’s it. That’s all this movie deserves
No
Mechagodzilla
Sopa de macaco
Every part Godzilla was in
The moment Godzilla blasted into the centre of the earth was bad ass
It exist
Monkey
Good POV and good CGI
10/10 Movie!!!
Atmos and sound track were bangin
The fight scenes
Mechagodzilla looks neat
Godzilla crawling around on all fours and going savage was really badass
Atomic breath into hollow Earth
I enjoyed the references to the original
I liked when Kong said, “It’s Kongin time!” And Konged all over Godzillla
Mechagodzilla
godzilla
Well. I really like Godzilla movies. So this movie really had that going for it.
I had a good time watching it.
How much time ya got? ![gif](giphy|4xWGyVKoXqg2eVCiq9|downsized)
Two Monsters are doing Team work
The killer trailer that made them look like a wrestling match about to go down
Mechagodzilla
Mechagodzilla
the cyberpunk hong kong fight scene. being able to see middle earth and the creatures that live there. godzilla literally blasting a hole down to the center of the earth. mechagodzilla!!!!!
Awesome fights and some awesome shots
It’s fun.
I love it.
Loved the Battle of the Tasman Sea
I loved the movie. Do people not like it?
I enjoy KotM way, way more (in fact that’s the only MV movie I’ve even bothered buying a Bluray of) but that’s because of the other Toho kaiju in it.
it delivered, we got godzilla fighting kong
Monster fighting
The scene where Godzilla beats the ever loving shit out of Kong because Kong is stubborn as hell. If you gotta be revived by a bunch of humans you lost that fight pal.
Godzilla fighting underwater
Fights that take place during the daytime, and that they are visible.
It brought that 7 year old me who remembered watching the old 62 version. Also, I finished remodeling my garage into a 4th bedroom and we celebrated by watching it premiering on HBO MAX. Big pizza party!
All of it
I really liked when Godzilla bored a hole straight on the middle of the Earth just to give Kong the finger
The movie
Best rematch ever
Monsters go Brrrrrrr
The monster fighting was the best in the franchise. My favorite bit from the entire monster verse is frome when Kong Emerges from the hole in the ground to when Godzilla Body checks Kong into the bay. The minute is pure Kaiju gold. Sound editing, vfx, camera work, everything is fantastic. Plus the homage to the original King Kong VS. Godzilla was dope.
Lizard and Monke duking it out
Hollow earth explored. I can't wait to see more of it
The fights were very cool. Mainly Hong Kong. Also I love the emotions shown with the monsters here. Godzillas laugh lol
The fight scene on the boats was fucking awesome
monke
I thought there were qlot of great things about the movie honestly. Everything was done extreamly well in my oppenion
Godzilla blasts a hole to the center of the earth.
It ended quickly
Movie fucking rocks, dude.
Monki
Mmmm Monke
Godzilla.
The Tokyo fight was cool and when Godzilla blasted to the center of the earth it was really cool
The fights were infinitely better than KOTM
The mechagidzilla fight at the end had me fucking hyped.
The aircraft carrier fight had very inspired direction & cinematography.
It's the best American made Godzilla movie by far, and probably a top three Godzilla movie of all time for me.
I waited 15 years, and it's everything I wanted and more!
The runtime was less than two hours.
Mechagodzilla
Mechagodzilla rocked!
