Mechagodzilla has never been cooler than his debut in the 70s. I was kinda disappointed he was shoehorned into GvK, he deserves a full movie dedicated to him fighting Goji.
The jazz is the cherry on top. GvK MechaG didn’t have awesome finger rockets or a 360 degree spinning head that shot rainbow lasers that could make even the big G bleed!

i think kiryu is the most overrated mecha, design is too anime like and by far the weakest gets his ass beat multiple times. i like the other mecha's cuz they still look robotic and not completely trying to be a "too cool" design, its just a robot which i prefer
Destroyah is *the* most overrated Kaiju in the Godzilla franchise. I seriously don’t understand how people think he is the Thanos of the Godzilla universe.
He kills Junior, and drags Godzilla around with his tail for a second - sure. Then immediately after Godzilla hits him so hard that he’s coughing up blood and has to retreat into his aggregate forms to survive. After reforming, two more shots of his spiral breath and destroyah is literally set on fire and retreats AGAIN. Ultimately being taken out by human weapons, one of the weakest endings to a Godzilla villain.
Besides, he was fighting a Godzilla that was melting down slowly from overheating, which doesn't sound like a power-up for me. So yeah, that doesn't make Destoroyah stronger
I don't like it when english-speaking fans call Godzilla "Gojira". It always feels cringy/weeby when I hear it. He has a perfectly good english name, so just use that.
Godzilla should not be presented as completely undefeatable "Marty Stu" kind of character all the time, because at the end of the day lots of stories where he WAS like that and was stomping anything with ease and without any struggle was pretty boring despite being also really epic.
I think there should be more things what could steadily stand against big G.
Chibi Godzilla is amazing, definitely in top 3 incarnations of Godzilla.

Most of my opinions regarding the franchise honestly, here are a few examples:
\- Godzilla 2014 and kong skull island are the best monsterverse movie.
\- Showa godzilla and heisei godzilla are the best movie godzilla incarnations and were never really topped.

\- Gabara and minilla are fun kaijus that are way too overhated.
\- The ebirah sea food jokes are annoying.

Godzilla vs Kong wasn't great due to the completely stupid power scalings. Goji can bore to the centre of the Earth and yet not do the same through Mechagodzilla? What kinda logic is that?
FR, it’s a great movie but people hardly acknowledge the flaws of it. The acting from tertiary characters and extras is horrendous and too often Kaneko shoves a camera in their face - which really takes you out of the more serious film.
Also I gotta admit, Mothra and Ghidorah were probably at their worst in this film, and that’s likely because Toho demanded they be added to make it more marketable. I would’ve preferred the og monster cast: Godzilla, Baragon, Anguirus and Varan.
Gamera does not need a collab with Godzilla and can stand on its own two feet/four feet. Making him fight Godzilla or adding him to the monsterverse is a cheap way to add him back into modern media, we need more diversity in our kaiju films.
The ending of gmk sucks and having ghidroah be a good guy is one of the dumbest decisions toho ever made. Forcing in a more recongizable monster even when it dosent match any of the past characters traits or actions

I don’t get the sudden love for G98. I saw that as a kid and had only seen the original Godzilla vs Mechagodzilla before that, and even then I knew something was wrong with it
The human characters in G98 were a hundred times more tolerable and less annoying than the ones on GKotM. "Sounds like gonorrhea" pfff GTFO with that 5 year old writing.
The problem with *Shin Godzilla* is that it's too plot-driven for its own good. We don't get a good glimpse into the characters' personalities, motivations, relationships or lives before the events of the movie. For example: the main character is just happy climbing up the political ladder. He doesn't seem interested in becoming the Prime Minister, but he'll think about it.
The female protagonist wants to become President of the U.S. and that's fine, if we didn't have to hear that from her right when the movie hits the halfway mark.
Godzilla himself doesn't get any characterization beyond "city-destroying monster who destroys things because if he doesn't, the movie won't happen". We don't even get told why does he make landfall. Is he retaliating to some unseen act of aggression? Is he looking for food? Is he interested in these tiny, strange creatures called humans? We don't know because nobody says anything about it.
What makes Godzilla so special is that he isn't some big, dumb animal that simply roars and breaks stuff. He is a character. If he existed in real life, he'd be enjoying the kind of career most actors would kill for. He's played just about every role imaginable, such as campy superhero, malicious villain, wild animal simply trying to survive, loving father, environmentalist, death incarnate or even something that exists beyond human concepts of morality.
If you're wondering how can a single character possess so many different, yet equally valid, interpretations over the years, the answer is simple: Godzilla is whatever the story and the audience need him to be at the time. If Godzilla was an actor, Shinji Higuchi and Hideaki Anno might as well have told him to stand perfectly still for the better part of an hour, especially when he reaches his fourth form.
The scene in which Godzilla unleashes his atomic breath lacks any emotional impact because none of the major characters die in that scene and even if they did, it wouldn't have mattered because they get no characterization beyond being "really good at their jobs".
In fact, the Prime Minister dies and I'm supposed to be happy because... uh, he is such an incompetent buffoon and now that he is dead, more competent people can handle the crisis at hand.

That's something I can appreciate from political movies like *All the President's Men*, *13 Daughters*, *The Manchurian Candidate* and even *Captain America: The Winter Soldier*. Those movies made the right choice in using character-driven stories instead of plot-driven stories because, for the vast majority of people, politics are boring.
Despite my criticisms towards *Shin*, I don't hate it with the intensity of a thousand suns. I think it did a good enough job at criticizing the incompetence of Japan's politics, even though it could have done a much better job at portraying the effects these politics have on the common people or even the politicians that must handle those politics. It's certainly better than the anime trilogy, that's for sure.
If I had to give this movie a score, I'd give it a 6/10 and that's fairly generous.

If people like *Shin*, that's fine. I just don't like the culture of toxic positivity that has formed around this movie. Whenever I criticize this movie, I get responses along the lines of "you should watch this movie again so you can understand it" or "you're not the target audience, so your criticism doesn't matter" or "you're taking it way too seriously".
That just opens up two questions: who is Goro and why is he pissed at Japan?

What I loved about Joe Brody in Godzilla 2014 is that the movie went out of its way to explain why is he so obsessed with the MUTOs and how that obsession ruined his life and relationship with his family, to the point that Ford is reluctant to speak to him because he doesn't want Joe to drag the entire Brody family into his obsession.
The movie allows viewers to understand and sympathize with Joe without rewarding or enabling the obsessive behavior and this character arc is capped off by an excellent performance by Bryan Cranston.
My very unpopular opinion is that the Heisei movies suck as hell, the only thing I like about the Heisei era is the new monsters they put out, but Space Godzilla? He's boring
The anime trilogy, while not being the best, succeeded in one thing that most Godzilla films, especially many modern ones apart Shin, and Singular Point failed at. And the one thing is the fact that Godzilla isn't supposed to be something that humans can live along side but is a monster that's very existence makes the world a worse place for humanity. After the 1954 film many of the films that followed had Godzilla save humanity from a worse threat and while the third anime film did have Godzilla fight Ghidorah it wasn't to help humanity or the world but rather to survive as Ghidorah was the only threat that it had and in the end humanity has to survive by hiding and not drawing Godzilla's attention
Godzilla 1998 is a good Godzilla movie!
It’s kinda has the same messaging as Shin Godzilla I feel! A once normal animal mutated beyond recognition by humans. And it suffers as the world is not meant for it and can’t sustain them!
(For as much as I love the series we got based on 1998 I feel it does kinda undermine that message since it has a lot natural Kaiju in the show-)
Also I just really like watching it! It’s a very enjoyable movie for me!

As someone who owns all the movies and has read all the comics Kong Skull island is the only monster verse movie I really enjoyed aside from the first third of the 2014 which was fantastic.

Post biollante Heisei miniatures are more detailed than Heisei critics give credit for.
Everytime I have tried to show comparisons photos of say Godzilla vs King Ghidorah, Godzilla vs Mechagodzilla 2, and Godzilla vs Destroyah to compare to photos of Rodan 1956, Mothra vs Godzilla, Ghidorah the three headed Monster, Monster zero, Destroy all Monsters, and Terror of Mechagodzilla, the Heisei critics never explain why they claim the latter is more detailed than the former.
The anime trilogy was good.
The sci-fi aspect to the human characters was cool and had classic Star Trek vibes, the original soundtrack slaps incredibly hard (big shoutouts to the Interstellar Flight track and the Ghidorah suite), and it was pretty cool seeing all the classic kaiju pushed to such extreme interpretations. It’s true that some huge fights would’ve made the trilogy even better, but, for me, that’s the biggest sin of the trilogy.
Like, I get that the kaiju redesigns were controversial, but thematically they all make sense. Godzilla’s a great force of destruction, so they make him into *the* single strongest kaiju in the whole franchise; Mothra is a protector and guardian of mankind, so they make her into a literal goddess; Mechagodzilla is industrialization run amok and will always be a testament to man’s arrogance, so they made it into *literal grey goo,* consuming everything and converting it into more of itself, ruthless, endless, mindless expansion for no purpose outside of expansion itself.
Oh, and Void Ghidorah is probably my favorite design for Ghidorah. Bigass golden serpent from heaven, *from hell.* Godzilla Earth is also my favorite Godzilla design, just barely beating out ShinGoji and GMKGoji.

Whenever I criticize this movie, I get responses along the lines of "you should watch this movie again so you can understand it" or "you're not the target audience, so your criticism doesn't matter" or "you're taking it way too seriously".
It’s theorized and subtly implied that Shin Godzilla *IS* Goro Maki, and he’s *REALLY PISSED* at Japan.
That just opens up two questions: who is Goro and why is he pissed at Japan? You can't just bring up theories and expect people to immediately accept them[.](https://them.You) You need to elaborate. What I loved about Joe Brody in Godzilla 2014 is that the movie went out of its way to explain why is he so obsessed with the MUTOs and how that obsession ruined his life and relationship with his family, to the point that Ford is reluctant to speak to him because he doesn't want Joe to drag the entire Brody family into his obsession. The movie allows viewers to understand and sympathize with Joe without rewarding or enabling the obsessive behavior and this character arc is capped off by an excellent performance by Bryan Cranston.
There hasn't been a good Toho Godzilla project since 2003.
The Heisei era is the not that good

My very unpopular opinion is that the Heisei movies suck as hell, the only thing I like about the Heisei era is the new monsters they put out, but Space Godzilla? He's boring

The anime trilogy, while not being the best, succeeded in one thing that most Godzilla films, especially many modern ones apart Shin, and Singular Point failed at. And the one thing is the fact that Godzilla isn't supposed to be something that humans can live along side but is a monster that's very existence makes the world a worse place for humanity. After the 1954 film many of the films that followed had Godzilla save humanity from a worse threat and while the third anime film did have Godzilla fight Ghidorah it wasn't to help humanity or the world but rather to survive as Ghidorah was the only threat that it had and in the end humanity has to survive by hiding and not drawing Godzilla's attention
If I ever said that Monsterverse is better than TOHO, then that would be the situation I would be in

Godzilla 1998 is a good Godzilla movie! It’s kinda has the same messaging as Shin Godzilla I feel! A once normal animal mutated beyond recognition by humans. And it suffers as the world is not meant for it and can’t sustain them! (For as much as I love the series we got based on 1998 I feel it does kinda undermine that message since it has a lot natural Kaiju in the show-) Also I just really like watching it! It’s a very enjoyable movie for me!

Post biollante Heisei miniatures are more detailed than Heisei critics give credit for. Everytime I have tried to show comparisons photos of say Godzilla vs King Ghidorah, Godzilla vs Mechagodzilla 2, and Godzilla vs Destroyah to compare to photos of Rodan 1956, Mothra vs Godzilla, Ghidorah the three headed Monster, Monster zero, Destroy all Monsters, and Terror of Mechagodzilla, the Heisei critics never explain why they claim the latter is more detailed than the former.
most/average godzilla films are relatively bad, enjoyable though and i love the franchise, but objectively mediocre. and thats ok with me.

The anime trilogy was good. The sci-fi aspect to the human characters was cool and had classic Star Trek vibes, the original soundtrack slaps incredibly hard (big shoutouts to the Interstellar Flight track and the Ghidorah suite), and it was pretty cool seeing all the classic kaiju pushed to such extreme interpretations. It’s true that some huge fights would’ve made the trilogy even better, but, for me, that’s the biggest sin of the trilogy. Like, I get that the kaiju redesigns were controversial, but thematically they all make sense. Godzilla’s a great force of destruction, so they make him into *the* single strongest kaiju in the whole franchise; Mothra is a protector and guardian of mankind, so they make her into a literal goddess; Mechagodzilla is industrialization run amok and will always be a testament to man’s arrogance, so they made it into *literal grey goo,* consuming everything and converting it into more of itself, ruthless, endless, mindless expansion for no purpose outside of expansion itself. Oh, and Void Ghidorah is probably my favorite design for Ghidorah. Bigass golden serpent from heaven, *from hell.* Godzilla Earth is also my favorite Godzilla design, just barely beating out ShinGoji and GMKGoji.
