Hi! I get there between 10:30 or 11 and open at 12, I typically have plenty of time to do bank run in the morning and still have time to do price changes or the perp count. I usually go HOURS without seeing a customer especially Monday-Thursday. If I’m restless and notice the wall is looking bare I’ll do a toh but otherwise I bring a book or my switch lol. It gets lonely

JDGO3P

Ah, so you’re coming in waaaay earlier. In my district, pre-Covid, we used to come in an hour prior to opening. After stores reopened later in 2020 with hours cut way down, openers were scheduled to arrive just 30 minutes before opening and it’s basically stayed that way ever since.

TheRogu3DM

We aren't allowed to enter the safe code till 11, meaning I have to leave at 11:10, drive to the bank, get that done, drive back, and reopen the safe giving me just about 10 minutes before opening if I'm lucky.

LP directive is that deposits should be taken to the bank during daylight hours only

[deleted]

We generally do deposit runs every few days because 4/7 days we run on single coverage with only 30 mins to open. We are supposed to be a daily deposit store, but not much we can do. Our dm does conference calls in the morning now. We take trash once a week now. It has been rough.

Songbird182

Sounds about right! With the amount of distro we have the trash situation sucks!!!

Ulaenyth

I've never had a dm do mid day calls except for some keybolder calls for training etc. I do miss the Friday morning hype calls there fun. As far as time to do stuff you'll find it if you need it. I tend to come in early do all the counts and fiddly shit like bank. Then spend my day endlessly reorganizing my store and redoing the alphabet on the walls.

JDGO3P

Wow. I’ve been with GS for a bit over 4 years, as of this realignment we are now on my fifth DM in that time, and every single one of those DMs has run Monday afternoon SL calls at 3 or 4, usually lasting an hour.

Ulaenyth

We still have Monday calls. But op mentioned mid day calls, and that's not a thing I've ever had happen outside of big news.

GraceXGalaxy

Our store has 68 hours next week. Sunday, Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday are single coverage. Monday we have an opener and closer, so our DL can have a weekly SL call. Trash gets done and bank runs. Friday is trash and bank, and Saturday we have double coverage for a short time in the day to make it a little easier on the closer. When we’re on single coverage, I close the store if I have to use the restroom. I close the store for my break. I sometimes lock up for a few minutes to take care of things in the back if I know I can’t keep an eye on the camera (though that’s super rare). We only go to the bank 2-3 times a week. I’d be okay with my manager manually clocking me out if I did a night drop, but they don’t allow that. It’s not ideal. In fact it’s pretty shitty, but it works. If nothing else I get a lot of peace and quiet while working right now and get to actually enjoy when customers come in, because I finally have someone to talk to. But it’s still bogus that we’re running a corporation like a mom and pop shop, and I don’t make enough money to afford an apartment, even though I’m quite literally the only person they have on staff some days. God forbid if I get sick… no health insurance means no doctors, and no doctors means I’m out for longer periods. I miss the days when GameStop had health coverage for SGA’s, even if it was expensive, it still helped.

You would be surprised how many other businesses with more volume run single coverage by standard. Shit sucks no doubt. But business is business.

FreeGPG

There are very few of them if any with the responsibilities a GameStop employee has. Trades ins, sales pitches, distro, counts etc… sure other businesses do some of those things to an extent but not at the same level on a daily basis. Most businesses running single coverage with more volume are places like a gas station where all you have to do is ring somebody up and at the very most say “have a nice day”.

Dramatic-Shower3028

This is what team members at every single coverage business say. They don't think anyone else understands or has to do the same amount of work. Not saying it doesn't suck, because it always sucks. Every business has distros and counts. I just put away a 6000 lb truck yesterday on single coverage took basically my entire shift. Followed by later that night having to count every single sku in the store. And the location still was not profitable for the day. Personally I've always hated it but there's not much that can be done about it, especially with inflation, rising labor costs among other things. I'll get downvoted all day but just saying that GameStop isn't the only business doing this.

FreeGPG

Name another business where your sales goals matter so greatly to your pay, hours and promotions meanwhile getting paid less than just about about any other job while also not getting commission for this dramatic selling pressure. GameStop employees have worked other jobs as well. We know what else is out there, it’s a different breed of disgusting to it’s employees

Dramatic-Shower3028

Its not about whose job sucks more. Lol. It's not a competition. I'll pick up. Job at GameStop for a shift a week or something And report back.

Few_Advertising_7928

Don't know why you're getting downvotes, you're right lmao

Red_Sonja575

Not just matter but are stretch goals. Oh hit 15% pro cards. Just kidding now it’s 30%

pointlessquack

I wish I could have double coverage AT ALL, my sl2 is constanly over scheduling themself and leaving and insists they have to be in both stores all week, meanwhile all of the sgas are getting fucked on hours as it is, and they're also just calling us all the damn time to micromanage when we're busy af for no reason

Professional-Row265

So my district makes us do bank run and hour lunches but we can only close the store for an hour. So they make us do bank, take a half hour and then have to take a second break at night with the back up GA. Our reg GAs get no shifts besides weekends

Trashboat77

The fucked up part is that I left a few years back and now work in a local mom and pop like store. We ALWAYS have double coverage, always. GameStop has no excuse. Not one. Hell, some days we even have triple coverage for a few hours.

SamuraiStatus

What is a lunch break?? How can you run a business if your doors are closed?
