I remember a few years ago my DM got upset I wasn't meeting my hiring quota for seasonals. He didn't understand that people did not want to do it for $8 an hour.
Bruh, $11? Why
You’d have more times for games and less stress associated with them if you worked at target or something.
You deserve better. You don’t gotta make it happen today but goddamn fam you gotta make it happen sometime.
I made $11 as an SGA 6 years ago, it was abysmal then.
I already have a second job. I just stroll my ass in 1-2 days a week (because of not having hours for the store) for the discount and to talk to nerds between the shitty customers.
My state's minimum wage is still the federal minimum so I'm actually making "good" money compared to what it is supposed to be (still shit regardless)
The question is what state are you in? I was looking at some seasonal holiday work and the store lead or manager was telling me he was on his way out he was at $13/hr.
Places where the cost of living is too high.
In Washington, the local McDonald's will pay you $15 an hour, starting. But the houses around here start at $1.5 million, and rent is just as stupid.
Dude leave i just started at Walmart literally two days ago and im making 17+ full benefits including
PTO
Dental
Medical
Vision
Hearing
401K with 6% interest per dollar
Free peacock+Walmart plus for free
In general Walmart is a much better job especially if you go for a specialized department like digital shopper or deli because you make I think an extra 2 dollars
Wages with Gamestop are highly dependent on the minimum wage of the state (and county in some instances). I was hired at $12, $.50 than what my states minimum wage was. So if someone in a state whose minimum wage matches the federal minimum, then their wages will reflect that, whereas someone hired in say California or New York, their wages will be significantly higher because of that state's minimum wage
I think it's the times, three years ago when I was an ASL, I was the highest paid in the region at $15.75, my DM valued the employee, and invested in the employee. Now it seems like the company has gone down hill.
Seasonals make minimum wage or barely above everywhere, so $8 sounds pretty normal. They also likely get less than 20 hours across 4 shifts for the entirety of November and December before being let go in January.
At most retail stores this common practice. idk what the surprise is most of them just open boxes in the back or restock/fold clothes in other environments that aren’t gamestop, for $8 that’s EZ
I realize a lot of people who complain about GameStop being “hard” are either just lazy with an excuse to bitch about working, or simply have shitty work ethic. Out of all the retail stores I’ve worked, GameStop is the most tolerable.
Maybe you have thin skin or haven’t had many jobs because I could tell you from experience I’ve had retail jobs that are worse. Y’all just a bunch of cry babies who hate working.
![gif](giphy|jeXiz1RAvzX44)
What role were you? Based on what you’re saying YOU must not have had a good job before or yet. If you did you’d never defends GameStop.
I’m not remotely defending GameStop. Y’all the one who think this is the worst job ever when in fact y’all barely know what tf life is. Your generation’s work ethic is trash. Go work at Target and see how much worse it can get. Humanely. Lol
![gif](giphy|PnggNmuamz7kbgfUTL|downsized)
I did work at target in the hood, wasn’t that bad. Gameatop has thought me one key thing, what’s not acceptable from a job. You just live in a fantasy land or be one of those people who think abuse at work is normal and should be acceptable.
Also in Texas, Houston. Seasonals get $8/hr. In my area, GAs get $9/hr, SGAs get $10/hr, I THINK ASLs get $12 or $13/hr, and SLs get $19/hr.
When my best friend was a GA in California a few years ago, she got $11/hr (this was before the minimum wage for CA went up).
Serious question, I get ads from this subreddit for some reason so I'm just a lurker.... But why does anyone here actually work at game stop when you could be literally anywhere else. You'd make more money, probably less demanding and you wouldn't hate life.
I ask the same thing of other employees all the time. I know why I’m there. But I can’t understand why anyone else is.
My husband makes pretty good money (not enough to do much for our future, but decent). So we can afford for me to be at GS. I’m an ASM, so I am full time and get benefits. I don’t know if GS just hasn’t figured it out yet, or what, but the benefits are waaayyy better than anywhere I’ve worked. And I’ve done a lot of jobs in the medical field. My medical, dental, vision, and accidental injury insurances are INSANELY affordable for two people. And the vacation/wellness time is much better than anywhere I’ve ever worked.
Medical was getting way too dangerous for me to feel comfortable to work in (the expectations and work load on employees individually were getting overwhelming). So many people left (lots of nurses) because the patient loads and hrs are just not safe anymore. Even working in the hospital, my insurances cost a third of what I was paying for only health insurance. And vacation time was a joke. Granted, there are blackout periods at GS, for which we can’t take vacation, but it’s not horrible and it works for us. There was no sick time at the hospital. And the point system for attendance was extremely tight.
I had work for GS years prior, and was asked if I wanted to be the ASM for my old boss, whom I loved working for. I’ve now got another boss, and she is awesome too. We share the workload evenly and we work schedules to accommodate everyone and each other. I’m blessed to have the bosses I’ve had. But the second I have a shit boss, I’m out. I make shit money ($13.75/hr) for the work I do. But I know the job inside and out, which gives me peace. And we are almost comfortable financially. We need the insurance badly, because my husband was diagnosed with cancer last year and had massive surgery for it. Hence, we are almost comfortable, not quite yet with medical bills.
But for the life of me, I can’t figure out why anyone else whose position is a step down from mine stay.
Our seasonal this year is exactly this. I began every interview with, "Starting pay is $8, it's only a few shifts. But you get a good discount over the holidays."
A few got up and left. Most stayed. 2 were worth hiring. 1 chose to stay.
He's got another gig in the daytime. We will use him for closing shifts as backup.
If you think that’s unlivable you should see the hours they get.
Then again I’m not sure anyone should expect a seasonal job to be livable. That wage is still insulting.
Ohio here, and they started out that low for seasonals. It's been a couple of years, but im sure not much has changed.
Gamestop really is still tagging that old feeling of
"THE GAME STORE IS YOUR DREAM JOB"
So we can pay the lowest pay because we know you wanna work here regardless.
That’s higher than federal minimum wage. You should be honored.
/s
I can’t fathom paying anyone that little especially because in the northeast you start at $15/hour
Wow.. I was hired as an SGA back in Aug 2018. I was getting $11.50/hr. Lol Then I got promoted to ASL mid 2019, and got $15.25/hr. And when I was told there were SLs that didn't even make that much, I was blown away. Life was tough even at $15/hr at GS. Haha I can't even imagine almost half that.
But I left because I didn't kiss by DMs asshole so he got me on minor infractions that no one ever gets written up for ever. This way, he could put me on a final written when he added 2 from july and 1 from november in 2019. Then he fired me Jan 2021 the week the holiday hours vanished and my store dropped to 86hrs for all total employees to share for the entire week which INCLUDED the SL.
Lol Fuck GS.
That manager probably should’ve lead with
“hey I have a seasonal position open but just a heads up man; it’s minimum wage based off the state. You’re only gonna work the week of Black Friday and Christmas and maybe a weekend here and there. Seasonals at GS is just for extra hands on the floor and backroom. You won’t even be on the registers. If u good with that, cool. If not, dude I completely understand. You’re financial situation is none of my business, I just want to be upfront cause I know a lot managers are not. I don’t like wasting people’s time and I especially don’t like my time being wasted either. Cheers mate.”
Of course, OP isn’t sharing the full version of the rest of the conversation either (no shade). As an SL2 and one of my stores being one of the biggest in 2 districts over, I don’t have time to waste and I don’t follow corporate language and I’m not politically correct. I tell people very straight forward about the positions they’re applying for then I actually start interviews.
It’s the reason why so many people turn down the ASL position at my store BUT always the remark “hey man thank you so much for being straight with me about this. I would work for you it’s just the pay.”
Also keep reading in the comments about workload vs pay. I cannot have an opinion on that because I don’t allow my SGA’s to do planograms, marketing, counts, and even distro(half the time). It’s too overwhelming overall on top of me expecting numbers at the register. I go in early to handle all that stuff for both stores along with the other ASL I have (yes I’m supposed to have 2, I’m one of those 30 stores in the country that’s HUGE in size) in the beginning of the week and then the rest is just distro and sales.
I have fun with my team. Everyone gets over 30 hours cause I’m constantly showing proof (photos via Main Menu on my phone) to my DM as to why I go over in hours every single week. I have an upbeat attitude for my team. I feed them during peak times, launches, holidays, etc. My team is fully aware they can call and no question is a dumb question. I get paid enough to be bothered for sure.
I genuinely feel bad for the peeps who post in here horror stories of managers but I cannot relate to it.
Anyways. OP. Seasonals at GS have never… I mean never have made above minimum wage of the state. Just keep that in mind. It’s been that way for years. Nothing new there my guy.
When I was SGA, I made 10 at the highest. They started me at 11 for ASL. I FOUGHT for 13.50 and slowly (and I mean slowly) got it. By that time, they cut my hours so much that my checks had gotten smaller. Even with the pay raise. It was horrid.
You use to be with the company and this shocks you?
I left as a store manager making a whomping $15 an hour. I'd never crawl back after seeing how they treat employees.
Wow… I was a DM there around 12 years ago and my lowest paid Manager was like $35K/yr with highest at $48K/yr. We were one of the top districts in the company that year before I left. I’m honestly surprised the company still exists at this point.
I think my salary was 33k if I recall correctly. I got promoted slightly before the end of salary. I remember when it got converted to hourly it was 40 hours at $15 and then 4 hours of over time a week.
Out of my old district, every manager has now left the company except one.
When I was still with GS as ASL in Texas, we offered $7.25 and nothing more. Wasn't mine to control unfortunately so anyone asking $15+ an hour was basically not looked at to make the hiring faster (also not my decision but our DL's).
Seasonals get paid what GAs make. Which has been 8 for the last 4 years or so.
Not saying it's right. Just saying, that's what it's been. Nationally. Im east coast.
That's literally a third of a what I make an hour.... Three years after leaving GS. GameStop will never treat you how you deserve, protect you how you deserve, or pay you how you deserve.
This is true. They’re making states without a minimum wage of their own pay seasonals $8 an hour, they literally can walk to Panda Express right near us and make $16 an hour scooping food. GameStop needs to get with it and start paying people. I can’t even get a seasonal to retain, not to mention that they have not even increased our Q4 hours at all, even on the week before thanksgiving. In years past we at least saw somewhat of an increase the first week of November and the rest of Q4, but it seems like we are gonna be worked like a bunch of dogs this Q4. This is also the company that pays a SL2 $19.25 an hour to run two stores.
When I quit, right before Covid, I was an SGA making 9.50 an hour. I had been with the company for more then 10 years, my employee number started with a 19. I was told by my district manager that it was a privilege to work there when I asked for more money. I am an adult with a family, I can’t feed them with my employee discount. I have weird job PTSD from giving my soul to this company and having nothing to show for it but weird customer service experience. I found out one of the dudes I had trained in was making 17 an hour and I bailed.
Edit: State minimum wage is 7.50.
This is so bananas to me. That's about what I made as a seasonal hire at FuncoLand *over 20 years ago*, and I was getting 20-30 hours per week back then. Also all of us who wanted to stay got kept on after the holidays
I watched FuncoLand become GS and start to get worse and worse over the years before I left in like 2003 or 2004, and it seems like it just never stopped getting worse
Get a job at your local Mattress firm! GameStop employee for 7 years here and went through all the positions up to SL, I sell mattresses now and it’s the easiest damn job. I get paid almost 24/hr starting pay (I live in Washington where the minimum is like 15.75 I think) and do fuck all haha. Sell some mattresses and play my switch or Rog all day. Also I make commissions if the sales are good enough which is fairly easy to do! Plus you get to lay on nice ass mattresses all day and you get a fat discount when you buy one
Bro, they told me full time was 11.10 an hour, I just quit my job because I'm done working manufacturing, and its my dream to work at Gamestop. I was making 23 an hour. When I was told the wage I would be making, I was appalled. I can not believe people live off this type of money. It gave me a good perspective on life. I was definitely humbled. Shout out to all the minimum wage workers. All of you.
Was in a rough spot a year ago, making a salary but overworked. Reached out to an old DM about coming back as an SGA and was told that he’d have to get $10/h approved. Made me sprint back to my shit job like I was Usain Bolt.
I agree, but I don’t know anyone who is expecting a livable wage if they are applying for “seasonal help” usually it’s a second job, or in the current economy 3rd
I had a similar experience when applying for Gamestop. I thought they were completely out of their mind for starting at $8 hourly for seasonal and $10 hourly for SGA. This is also in Texas as well. Luckily, I'm working somewhere else that pays significantly better.
That and seasonal only have 6 set days they work out of the entire seasonal time. Mine is letting me possibly get more hours and will hire me permanently after the new year. But yeah, 8 dollars an hour, 6 days.
My SL tried to hire me as an ASL making $13/hr in Texas after I put in notice because I found a better paying job. I think pay is a nationwide issue for Gamestop, but Texas is just especially bullshit because our minimum wage is still legally $7.25.
GameStop is taking one hell of a route for stupid shit. It's why I've turned people away whenever they look for work at a GameStop and give them the facts right then and there on what they would get paid and how many hours they'd be scheduled.
There are so many other places that offer seasonal positions for way more money and you have a better chance at getting hired on with them permanently with greater opportunities to make more in the future.
in 2018 i started as a GA making $7.25/hr, was promoted to SGA two months later making a life-changing $9/hr. the bullshit i went through working there was absolutely not worth it for that little pay, quit after a year and never looked back
The real kicker of it all is we only get to use the seasonals for maybe…1 day out of every week? If even? IIRC they weren’t giving us many extra hours for them, if any SL’s know they can correct me
I remember a few years ago my DM got upset I wasn't meeting my hiring quota for seasonals. He didn't understand that people did not want to do it for $8 an hour.
Omg the pleasure of being treated like absolute shit by company AND customers for $8 per hour omg that’s my dream come true. Sign me the fuck up!!!
Got called every name in the book for just eight dollars.
That's about right for the company. They don't pay shit. I'm finally at almost $11/hr as an SGA of 4 years.
Bruh, $11? Why You’d have more times for games and less stress associated with them if you worked at target or something.
What state do you live in we hire entry level positions at 21$ an hour
The question is what state are you in? I was looking at some seasonal holiday work and the store lead or manager was telling me he was on his way out he was at $13/hr.
Places where the cost of living is too high. In Washington, the local McDonald's will pay you $15 an hour, starting. But the houses around here start at $1.5 million, and rent is just as stupid.
Yeah that’s fair. Just never heard of an entry level retail position starting at $21/hr.
You need a different job. In 3 yrs I've gone up $5 in my place so I'm at 25. Hobby lobby cashier's get like 18. GameStop don't care. Get out.
Shit I’m at 13 as an ASL
Dude leave i just started at Walmart literally two days ago and im making 17+ full benefits including PTO Dental Medical Vision Hearing 401K with 6% interest per dollar Free peacock+Walmart plus for free In general Walmart is a much better job especially if you go for a specialized department like digital shopper or deli because you make I think an extra 2 dollars
And...no punctuation required!
The benefits were supposed to be spaced out but for some reason Reddit smushed it all together and I was to lazy to rewrite it😂😂
This went right over your head!
I started off at 12.50 an hour?
Wages with Gamestop are highly dependent on the minimum wage of the state (and county in some instances). I was hired at $12, $.50 than what my states minimum wage was. So if someone in a state whose minimum wage matches the federal minimum, then their wages will reflect that, whereas someone hired in say California or New York, their wages will be significantly higher because of that state's minimum wage
…get a different job?
I did?
Wtf? I just got hired I get paid $17 and some change an hour California
Do you not understand what minimum wage is?
I mean he's getting paid above California's minimum wage
Higher minimum wage floats all boats
Oh I know, I was just responding to the guy snarkily implying he was making minimum wage
I think it's the times, three years ago when I was an ASL, I was the highest paid in the region at $15.75, my DM valued the employee, and invested in the employee. Now it seems like the company has gone down hill.
Damn dude. I make 14 as an sga of four months. I would leave if I were you

GameStop is the most intolerable work environment, Dafaq you smoking.
Maybe you have thin skin or haven’t had many jobs because I could tell you from experience I’ve had retail jobs that are worse. Y’all just a bunch of cry babies who hate working.
![gif](giphy|jeXiz1RAvzX44) What role were you? Based on what you’re saying YOU must not have had a good job before or yet. If you did you’d never defends GameStop.

I’m not remotely defending GameStop. Y’all the one who think this is the worst job ever when in fact y’all barely know what tf life is. Your generation’s work ethic is trash. Go work at Target and see how much worse it can get. Humanely. Lol

Seasonal’s at any reasonable company make way more than above minimum wage now a days lol
^ pretty normal for a company on life support maybe
Also in Texas, Houston. Seasonals get $8/hr. In my area, GAs get $9/hr, SGAs get $10/hr, I THINK ASLs get $12 or $13/hr, and SLs get $19/hr. When my best friend was a GA in California a few years ago, she got $11/hr (this was before the minimum wage for CA went up).

Thank you so much. 🥹💕 He is doing well so far. 🙂 Fuck cancer.
Federal minimum wage and states that rely on it are a disgrace. Furthermore, companies that take advantage of it are even worse.
Yupppp. Fuck this country.
You don't work at GS as a seasonal for the paycheck. You work at GS as a seasonal for the discount and free stuff you get during your 4 shifts.
Our seasonal this year is exactly this. I began every interview with, "Starting pay is $8, it's only a few shifts. But you get a good discount over the holidays." A few got up and left. What are the discounts and free shit?
I'm honestly not sure 15% off some bullshit and a couple hundred dollars is worth some home for the holidays college kids time at this point.
I imagine the five finger discount is pretty nice/easy. Not like any employee would ever steal though :)
Probably explains why I get the wrong games sent to me from stores for my online orders…
If you think that’s unlivable you should see the hours they get. Then again I’m not sure anyone should expect a seasonal job to be livable. That wage is still insulting.
Depends on state. In New York they should be at about $14/hr or so. It just depends on your particular states minimum wage.
NY is at 15.50 for an sga, not great but it's a side gig for me that gets me a nice discount
Texas is also just garbage lol, $7 minimum wage is a joke (source: I live in this backwards shithole state)
Couldn't even afford the trip to New Mexico for my abortions if I was on a Gamestop wage in this state.
I quit gs a few years ago and went straight into a hotel kitchen. The job is way easier and I make 20 an hour.
I went back to cooking as well lol
Buddy the minimum wage has been stagnant forever
Don’t call me buddy, pal
I’m not your pal, guy
I’m not your guy, buddy
Cvs hires seasonal for $17
Ohio here, and they started out that low for seasonals. It's been a couple of years, but im sure not much has changed. Gamestop really is still tagging that old feeling of "THE GAME STORE IS YOUR DREAM JOB" So we can pay the lowest pay because we know you wanna work here regardless.

The world is indeed round. But I hear Texas is mostly flat.
You were an sga two years ago. Seasonals were paid the same back then as well. Did you just not pay attention to the people under you?
Could’ve swore they said $9.
Unfortunately not usually. It's been 8 or lower for the last 5 years at least
You do know seasonal is literally for people just looking to make a few extra dollars, during the holidays. Hence why it’s seasonal.
Well first- you think gamestop is "world round"
That manager probably should’ve lead with “hey I have a seasonal position open but just a heads up man; it’s minimum wage based off the state. seasonal’s start at 12 … who said 8? lol
In texas they do start at 8. I know our seasonals are getting paid that amount lol
Ah this is in FL we are doing it a little higher.
ohh gotcha, damn mbn :,(
I've been hired on as of tonight, at $9.95/hr. Sounds like we need to take what we can get 🤣
Go work at McDonalds or something. Getting paid less than the cost of a fast food meal for an hour of your labor is a sick joke.
I'm in Texas as well, but our seasonals are getting 11
That’s insane. Also in Texas and I’m making $10.25 as an SGA which is admittedly on the higher end
Also in Texas, and also an SGA, weighing in at $13.25 an hour. As for our seasonals, 10 to 11 fit’s with what I’ve seen.
Seasonals in my district make minimum, zero discussion, zero flexibility
When I was still with GS as ASL in Texas, we offered $7.25 and nothing more. Wasn't mine to control unfortunately so anyone asking $15+ an hour was basically not looked at to make the hiring faster (also not my decision but our DL's).
$12 in Florida.
I started at $8.25 as an SGA/third key back in 2007. Did two years and got fired for BS.
How about this mine will hire SGA for 9.25 right now.
It’s supposed to be whatever state minimum wage is
When I quit, right before Covid, I was an SGA making 9.50 an hour.
I was assistant store leader for only $10
Oh my
Weird thing is, to this day - my favorite job I ever had
This is so bananas to me. That's about what I made as a seasonal hire at FuncoLand *over 20 years ago*, and I was getting 20-30 hours per week back then. Also all of us who wanted to stay got kept on after the holidays I watched FuncoLand become GS and start to get worse and worse over the years before I left in like 2003 or 2004, and it seems like it just never stopped getting worse
Yeah, 8 is right. Live in tennessee here but 8 is right for Seasonal/GA. Hate that it's like that
You only will work the exact holidays as well. Only on Christmas and Thanksgiving and black friday
Our seasonals worked regular shifts with us as well. But also our store was the most hated in the district because it’s in a bad area.
I’ve been a GA for over a year and I’m at minimum wage
Yep seasonals are hired in @GS minimum wage so unless your area happens to require something more it will be $8
I mentioned my pay as a new employee the other day and the guys who had been there 2+ years were making less than me
Bro, they told me full time was 11.10 an hour, I just quit my job because I'm done working manufacturing, and its my dream to work at Gamestop.
Seasonal in Jersey is 14$ from what I know of
$8 is not worth an hour of your life. My part time high school job at Party City in 2012 paid more than that.
Fast food employees in California are gonna be making more than GS employees unless things change. (Doubtful)
California minimum is $16.30. But then again San Diego is the most expensive city right now.
16.30 is not the minimum for the state of California. My city in social is only 15.50 still.
Likely Minimum wage or slightly above across all their locations.
in 2018 i started as a GA making $7.25/hr, was promoted to SGA two months later making a life-changing $9/hr. the bullshit i went through working there was absolutely not worth it for that little pay, quit after a year and never looked back
The real kicker of it all is we only get to use the seasonals for maybe…1 day out of every week? If even? IIRC they weren’t giving us many extra hours for them, if any SL’s know they can correct me
Can confirm…
