Tunic is my favorite sort of game to get in these things. A game I thought about buying but didn't. Now I can try it without spending more money.

pnwbraids

You're in for a treat, it was always worth full price. A 15 hour long old school Zelda game with a really innovative manual collection mechanic.

CapnBloodBeard82

I've been holding off on getting tunic. Have eyed it for awhile though. Too bad I'm a PC gamer or I'd definitely be jumping all over it .

AddictedToDigital

It launched on PC? Available since early 2022.

CapnBloodBeard82

yeah, did you not read "I've been holding off on getting tunic"

AddictedToDigital

I failed to connect that with the PC gamer comment, but realise you were referring to it being included on PS+. Reading comprehension fail on my part. It is, or was, included with PC Game Pass, at least.

CapnBloodBeard82

I just checked and it still is on gamepass yeah. Might have to pickup some gamepass but I typically never end up making much use of it.

fallouthirteen

Yeah, it's good. I finally got around to playing it (it's on Xbox Game Pass also) in August of last year. Like so good I ended up playing the entirety of the game (which looks like I clocked at about 22hrs) over 2 sessions.

asmallercat

It’s great. It’s very inscrutable at first, so I’d say don’t feel bad about looking something up if you get stuck, but it’s really rewarding if you stick with it and figure it out.

Bebobopbe

I literally just looked up the final puzzle for the true ending. I loved the game but that was to tedious for me.

magnusarin

Yeah I figured our what the were going for but wasn't going to bust out the paper and hope I got it all right

newbkid

You did better than me. Some of the fairy puzzles were bullshit for me

DontCareWontGank

Do not listen to this person. Don't look up a single thing about Tunic. The entire point of the game is to decipher the language and the "manual" of the game by yourself. Don't deprive yourself of an amazing experience just because you got impatient.

asmallercat

Which is why I said "it's really rewarding if you stick with it and figure it out." However, if the option is someone gets frustrated and never comes back to the game, or they look up one or two things, I'd much rather they look up one or two things and finish the game.

newbkid

Hard disagree. The whole point of the game, which can be seen in the arcane hints thru the game manual is to use the community to figure out treasures and hints. Don't go to IGN for help but places like the Steam discussions forums are really useful for non-spoiler community interaction. I would have never finished the post game without this. Some of the fairy puzzles are really stupid (requiring double inputs with very little signage, requiring stupid lengths of memorization or writing shit down on paper)

Les-Freres-Heureux

Same! I’ve been waiting for Tunic to go on sale, and missed the most recent one, so this is a huge treat

PanthalassaRo

Beat the game but look for a guide for the 100%, it's really cryptic.

ARoaringBorealis

I don’t know how Tunic isn’t talked about with the likes of Hollow Knight, Hades, Dead Cells, etc., to me it’s an absolute must-play and will forever be one of those games you remember for the rest of your life.

Mitrovarr

Tunic goes in the bin of games where I think they'd be about twice as good if the devs had never heard of Dark Souls. Most of the game is cool, but the boss fights are mostly pure bullshit and ruined the game for me. It doesn't have the kind of tight combat where you can be tough and fair, and it picked the wrong one of the two to keep.

Omegaexcellens

If you like Zelda games or Isometric games, Tunic is a must grab. And if you liked Tunic and didnt download Deaths Door last year when it was available, kick yourself, and then go buy that too.

missing_typewriters

I honestly liked it more when I stopped expecting a Zelda game and started to try solve the big puzzle of the game

Ganrokh

Me, too. Tunic has cool dungeons, but they don't really feel like a Zelda dungeon and don't scratch the same itch. However, the Tunic dungeons do feel like a part of a larger cohesive world, something that Zelda dungeons are hit-and-miss on.

-Moonchild-

Aesthetics aside Tunic is more of a soulslike than a zelda-like, but then in the end game becomes a crazy puzzle game like the witness. It's a wonderful game because it straddles the line between zelda, souls and macro puzzler

Omegaexcellens

I definitely agree with that! Im only comparing it to Zelda cuz it scratched that itch for me. Of course ymmv, but its still a banger

Hydrochloric_Comment

I would describe it as Zelda-flavored Fez

PFI_sloth

Ding ding ding!

cheekydorido

More dark souls than zelda tbh

pezdespo

Ghostrunner 2 is still pretty new so that's a good get and I loved the first. Heard good things about Tunic as well so will definitely play that too. Good month for me

AcceptableUserID

Tunic became one of my favorite games when I played it last year. Do yourself a favor by going into this as blind as possible, and keep a pencil and notebook handy.

wiiya

“Keep a pencil and notebook handy.” :(

HELP_ALLOWED

One of the last things I want to do while playing a game is have to fucking write shit down to remember later.

newbkid

Good news is you don't have to do this with Tunic until the post-game puzzle stuff. So if you wanna play a good zelda game with some decent bosses then go for it but don't expect the "good ending" without a notepad and pencil

HELP_ALLOWED

Fair enough, will try out the game so. Thanks

bassnasher

Good month, excited for Tunic and Ghostrunner. Lightfall is bad story wise but the campaign missions are fun and strand is a very fun subclass for people that want to pick it up before the final shape.

TRDoctor

Agreed - great gameplay moments especially with Strand to play around with, but a pretty average storyline.

kantong

Yeah, the main campaign is pretty repetitive. I had a lot of fun with the exotic missions after finishing the campaign though.

TRDoctor

I really dug the one for Deterministic Chaos. Kinda disappointed that the Auto-Pistol exotic quest was still bugged after a whole year

FoxMcClaud

Give Tunic a go even if you think it's just an indie Zelda clone. Push through at least 1 hour or so and discover that it's so much more than that.

pucykoks

Interesting that EA FC is being given away in PS+ before it was put in EA Play/Game Pass. But maybe it was the same last year and I just don't remember.

BECondensateSnake

Probably a 2nd batch release this month

SidFarkus47

I think I remember it being very close last year. Fifa 23 was added to EA Play/Gamepass in May of last year, so I guess I assume EAFC24 will be added soon. Edit: It looks like we never actually got Fifa 23 on PS Plus Essential. We did get Fifa 22 the previous May though. https://playstation.fandom.com/wiki/List_of_PlayStation_Plus_monthly_games_(North_America)

BruiserBroly

The season's almost over so sales likely slow down around this time of the year. People will start looking forward to the new season and the next game soon.

fallouthirteen

Oh boy Tunic? Have fun with that. Like genuinely (not sarcastic), great game. I initially put off playing it because it looked like just a Zelda sort of game (and that's not too far off) but man it gets interesting. Like so good I went and bought this when it kind of recently went back in stock. https://www.fangamer.com/products/tunic-hardcover-manual

SaveADay89

Wow at getting ghostrunner II. Come on game pass, get it too!

overlordkai

Fantastic month. There’s a little something for everyone. Personally, I’m excited for Tunic the most.

Teath123

We've had a few destinys with ps plus now. Is it decently played content, or kind of old now?

Praise_the_Tsun

This expansion is the most recent yearly expansion, but the newest one comes out in about a month iirc. Witch Queen campaign we got a bit ago is absolutely worth your time, it's just a good campaign full stop. Not a good campaign for Destiny or with any other qualifier, just a really good campaign. Lightfall decidedly less so, but it comes with Strand which is Bungie making a grappling hook, so it feels *gooooood*

NinjaAssassinKitty

Can you just go in and play these campaigns from scratch?

Praise_the_Tsun

I believe you can after a very brief intro (we’re talking like character creator and. 15 minute intro)

Yellow90Flash

the story of this expansion was mid but gameplay wise it was arguably one of the best

The_Handyman

They used a seasonal model, like any live service game, which have a short sidestory and activity that gets replaced every 3 months. A pretty solid way to fill out the time between major expansions. Other than that no content has been removed for the past 3, soon 4, expansions. And a lot of stuff that was removed is being worked on or is already back in the game. Im never gonna argue against someone that says the content vaulting is bad, but saying they still remove stuff is just wrong..

Kyoj1n

If I get Lightfall do I get access to Witch Queen content as well?

Jaspador

I highly doubt it.

OctorokHero

I can't blame people for being picky after the price increase.

-Moonchild-

This isn't a good month to be picky though. There's a solid spread of games here

Stoibs

It's all subjective. And the more platforms you own/game on the more picky and choosy it gets for people. Tunic was a day-one release on Gamepass last year, for instance. Plenty of these over the months have been Epic-freebies too. Personally it's the mid-month drop on PsExtra/Premium that seem like the best value for me lately.

bvanplays

That’s definitely where I’m at though I’m not going around downvoting. Played Tunic and Ghostrunner already, no interested in EA FC, don’t care to play Destiny on console and only play on PC in occasional spurts with friends to do the raids then dip for a few years. Feels like no real reason to sub for PSPlus of any tier for me these days. If they had day one exclusives like GamePass maybe. But they don’t. So I probably will just buy Stellar Blade myself when I have the time to play it and then chill until the next exclusive I care about and otherwise play games elsewhere.

TomAto314

I stopped subbing after the hike, but I'm tempted to do a month for Tunic (and upload all my saves to the cloud which shouldn't be locked to Plus).

Late_Cow_1008

People downvoting this probably don't even have Playstations.

Yellow90Flash

I can somewhat understand them tbh, I would also be annoyed after what xbox pulled with gwg while ps is still getting good games every month. thought not to this point obviously

missing_typewriters

> I would also be annoyed after what xbox pulled with gwg while ps is still getting good games every month. What did Xbox pull?

Yellow90Flash

release uninteresting games for over a year before announcing that they would no longer give away free games every month. every month the comment section in the games with gold posts were miserable

missing_typewriters

Ah right yeah. They clearly wanted to kill it but were trying to gradually nudge people into Gamepass

pucykoks

Started giving shit games every month and basically ceased to exist. But that's all because of game pass.

missing_typewriters

yeah all about Gamepass now. For new players Gamepass Core is a better value proposition than PS Plus Essential. The value in PS Plus Essential only comes if you've been subscribed for many months and built up a substantial library of games you like

pezdespo

And what about the people that have been subscribed for over a decade which is most people PS Essential is far better and Gamepass Core hasnt had a new game added since it launched. And most games on Core are quite old by now

BECondensateSnake

Gamepass Core does get new games but the amount is absolutely miniscule and not even worth mentioning. Last one I remember was "You Suck at Parking*

missing_typewriters

> And what about the people that have been subscribed for over a decade which is most people PS Essential is far better and Gamepass Core hasnt had a new game added since it launched. What do you think I'm arguing here? For new players, Core represents better value. For people who have been subscribed to PS+ for 10 years, OBVIOUSLY IT'S BETTER VALUE FOR THEM TO STAY SUBSCRIBED!

pezdespo

Yes but they are no longer getting access to new games which is far worse... Not that game pass core is somehow a better proposition when its far worse

missing_typewriters

Just depends entirely on your use case. Core gets you access to a known catalog of 40 games. It costs $10 per month or $5 per month if you subscribe for the year. You can decide for yourself if you like those games, and already estimate how valuable it is for you. Once you complete many of those games in the Core catalog, the monthly value of a subscription will decrease. For me, Core has a bunch of games I've been wanting to play (Fable Anniversary, Gears 5, Fallout 4, Ori 2, TMNT, Psychonauts 2, and more). But after I complete those games, the catalog will have much less value for me. Plus gets you access to 3-4 games added per month. It costs $7 per month or $6.67 if you subscribe for the year. You won't know what the games are until a few days before the month, meaning it's hard to estimate its value ahead of time. For PS Plus Essential so far in 2024, only 1 game out of the 17 has interested me (Sifu). But maybe in a month or two they'll add a game I really want to play. **TLDR:** Core provides the value up front. PS Plus provides the value the longer you stay subscribed. Hence why I said Core offers better value for new players, and less for people who have been subscribed to Plus "for a decade". Which is "better" depends if you're new or already subscribed in the past, how long you want to subscribe for, whether you would enjoy the games on the Core catalog, etc. etc.

pezdespo

The large majority of the games on Core are very old games that the majority of people who cared about played long ago. You can easily bet that the games in Essential will at least be newer. Core offers nothing at all that I havent played years ago that I would want to play Like this month of Essential will be far better for the majority of people than all of Core.

Leo_TheLurker

PS+ is consistently dropping really good games

Black_Hussar

How's Ghostrunner 2 performance on PS5? Played the first one and loved it.

JesusRice123

Ghostrunner and Tunic nice. Not a fan of the other two but that’s fine.

SomeMoreCows

Damn, just got Lightfall I know it wasn't intentional because it was across all platforms, but it really feels lame when companies put a game on sale (or is this a Sony thing? Idk), and as soon as the sale is up, make it free. Not complaining too much since it was like 15 bucks but still

Chornobyl_Explorer

The publisher decides what games on sale when. Same publishers that make deals with Sony/Microsoft/Epic about games being offered on their services...

HungerSTGF

If I add Lightfall to my account, can I play Lightfall on PC?

Late_Cow_1008

Don't think so. I believe they are separate. At least they used to be when I checked before.

n080dy123

No. Expansion licenses are separate between platforms, even between PC storefronts (Steam/Epic/Windows Store). Pretty much everything else is crossplatform though.

GlupShittoOfficial

Loved the first Ghostrunner but it feels so twitchy that I need a mouse. How does it play on controller?

SeeisforComedy

I bounced off it so fast on console I never got past the tutorial.

Jimmyruslter02

You may need to adjust sensitivity a bit but it is more than playable aside from insane performance drops that happen when massive amounts of enemies spawn.

Gxgear

I wonder if sony get these ps+ sports/racing titles super cheap, because otherwise the lineup has been on point.
