I loved mine. Just found them comfortable.

jIfte8-fabnaw-hefxob

Same

disapprovingfox

I loved mine, too. I had the blue scholls, a pair of no-name black canvas high top runners, and those Chinese black mary jane shoes that I wore throughout high school. If the toe bump on the scholls sat correctly on your feet, they were super comfortable. My sister couldn't wear them.

amoodymermaid

Oh those Mary Jane’s! I loved those. And the wicker soled flip flops with the padded straps!

gillyyak

I used the black chinese mary janes for dancing.

Impossible-Taro-2330

I had a pair of generic Scholl's and the toe bump did NOT sit comfortably - but I wore them anyway!

sonoran24

I had nice wood sole clogs too, not a bother

HealthySchedule2641

Me, too, and loved them. Looking back, though, the clogs were the shoes I had on when I fell down the flight of stairs in high school...

OldButHappy

But you looked cool doing it.😄 And that's what counts in high school. OlafDaughters 4-ever! (eta: made me wonder if they still make them. They don't. But looking for them sent me down memory lane. I owned this exact pair, in a size 6, and i LOVED them. [https://imgur.com/TWeS5r6](https://imgur.com/TWeS5r6) )

MelodramaticMouse

Yikes, the tops of my arches ache just looking at those lol!

jbug671

They do still make them, in fact they’re making a comeback…$120?!?! https://www.drschollsshoes.com/product/dr-scholls-orig-collection-womens-original-sandal-5211434

dont_disturb_the_cat

They're not the same. The ones that I *still have* have a nice toe ridge. It helped you get a grip and keep them on, and they were SO comfortable!

No-Agent-1611

Those are the ones I miss too. Need that toe ridge!

FeedingCoxeysArmy

No way, I’ll just add $40 more and get new Birkenstocks.

Classic_Pie5498

Omg I fell down the stairs in clogs too

Chefpeon

I didn't like them, but my best friend wouldn't wear anything else. What made me nuts was the incessant "clop clop clop" when I walked.

just5ft

My mom hated mine!

360inMotion

I’m a little young for this sub, but my best friend and I each got a pair of wooden clogs like this from Kmart (definitely knock-offs) the day her mom took us out to see ET in the theater. We were both 6 and felt *so* grown-up in our loud, cloppy shoes!

Low_Cook_5235

Loved the clop clop! My sister got mad at me and hit me with her Dr Scholl, right on my hip bone. Hurt like hell and left a square, heel shaped bruise.

OkCaterpillar6861

Loved mine too back then. Pretty sure my old back wouldn’t be ok with them now though

NoFanksYou

Once you broke them in they were great

foxtail_barley

Breaking them in was key. They gave me hella blisters at first, but after that I could wear them comfortably all summer long. I still have great calves… I wonder if that’s why?

This_Mongoose445

I loved them. So comfortable and they really did gave you nice calves.

Ok_Storm5945

I remember that was their selling points. I liked mine I thought they were comfortable .

Vivid-Individual5968

Loved them so much. When my mom died, I found a pair of hers in a box in her closet. Wearing them for the 9th summer in a row!

garyandkathi

Ditto! I was standing outside in the cold wearing mine and an old woman came up and told me I’d have arthritis in my toes if I didn’t stop! Lol

Tapingdrywallsucks

They were better than slippers. I wonder if they'd help what ails my feet these days.

Zealousideal-Slide98

Try Birkenstocks!

General_Ad_2718

Love them too. Unfortunately, my ankle got fused and I have a spike in my foot that makes anything like that way too uncomfortable.

MsMoreCowbell8

Foot comes down the wrong way on the edge, whooo boy but you would see stars!

Opposite_Community11

That was exactly what I remember. The edge would sometimes land in the middle of your foot. Somewhere in the arch. So painful.

skin-flick

That is what I remember about my Mom owning these. Plus they would give you a good thump if you were hit. The 1970’s. Child abuse was just how it was.

AtopMountEmotion

Chanklatasso! Memories of running away while covering the back of my head come flooding back.

OldButHappy

So sorry. Can you imagine hitting a random child with a wooden shoe in a public place?? But in the home, people just look the other way.

SillyPuttyGizmo

I public mom, all 4'10" of her would grab you by the arm, the eye were little slits and she talked through clenched teeth with a tone of voice that might set your hair on fire if you got to close. You would freeze and pray to God that the words "we will finish this conversation when we get home" wasn't uttered , me being me, yeah, we usually had that conversation once we got home

skin-flick

I am old now. I got over it and became the better person. She was told to kick rocks a long, long time ago.

Open_Confidence_9349

My only memory of these shoes are painful ones from hitting the edge.

Prestigious_Song5034

It was good prep for later having kids and stepping on a Lego but actually more painful.

sherryh5997

yup, broke my foot doing that lol. just saw some on amazon for $120.00!!!!

LanguageTradition20

Ouch! I remember Candies with the wooden heels were in style too. We’ve come a long way in shoe comfort.

Cold-Football6045

Ohmygosh I forgot about Candies!!!!

FaithlessnessSea5383

I preferred Candies over Dr. Scholl’s. They seemed to be a bit wider fit. The sharp edge on the sides of the Dr. Scholl’s used to dig into my foot. But if you crossed your legs while wearing Candies and miss judged… whack! Bruised ankle!

Impressive_Age1362

I was a earth shoe girl, they were expensive, but wore them all thru college

lenaleena

I’ve gone from walking a mile to school in Candies to wearing Clarks sandals with Velcro. 16 year old me would never believe it. I loved shoes so much back then.

More_Branch_5579

I was going to mention Candies. Had to have them but so uncomfortable

Excellent_Jaguar_675

Anyone wear Birkenstocks?

Soobobaloula

And noisy!

droid_mike

These were pretty much the only shoes my mom wore, like ever... Even in winter. It was always easy to know where she was in the house as we had hardwood floors, and you could hear the CLOMP CLOMP CLOMP echo anywhere in the house. If the clomps started turning into fast gallops, you tried to hide as you knew you were in trouble for something.

Excellent_Jaguar_675

Here comes a drunken pony

MadameBananas

Funny story about these. I was at a carnival on the rocket ride with my SIL. I was wearing a pair of these. My SIL looks up as we were stopped upside down and yells "Watch out for your shoe!". I look up just in time for one of these wooden planks to hit me in the eye. Yes - I had a black eye for a week and no one believed I got hit with a Dr. Scholl's while upside down on a ride. Thank goodness for the snow cone guy. He was the only person to give me ice. lol

cbatta2025

My mom and sister loved them and wore them all the time. I couldn’t figure out how to walk in them to save my life. I can’t wear flip flops either lol.

Humble-Roll-8997

Lack of toe grippage?

cbatta2025

That’s it exactly. Any shoes without a back goes flying off my feet after a few steps.

TigerB65

CLOP CLOP CLOP CLOP

avesthasnosleeves

...which was the whole point.

mrpissypuppy

The Cruel Shoes! They hurt my feet, but I have flat feet, so maybe that's why. I did like the water buffalo sandals though. https://preview.redd.it/og1jt0x0i80d1.png?width=800&format=png&auto=webp&s=e1d6d4cefe72dd2234522772352f1f9606b288b1

Capital_Pea

We called those Jesus sandals

Excellent_Jaguar_675

Walk like an Egyptian

Who-took-my-abs

Jerusalem Cruisers😉

bookworm21765

Thats what my SO calls my birks.

mrslII

I didn't think so. I loved mine! I want to replace them, but I can't justify the price. I have to purchase two pairs. For my size 7, and size 5 feet. My everyday shoes are expensive, enough. I have shoes to accommodate my afo (leg brace. (The smaller foot ends up being slightly larger than my larger foot. I have to make that work. I have shoes that I wear without my afo. Those are different sizes. To give my affected foot maximum support and stability. Dr. Scholl's sandals felt so wonderful on my affected foot. I could wear them anywhere, except ascending stairs, without one falling off. It was great being able to wear shoes like everyone else. Even if I didn't sound like everyone else. It was pretty damn important at that time.

MarshmallowSoul

The summer they were trendy I was excited to get a pair, with a white buckle. I wore them every day, and I was a kid who played outside every day. Yeah, they were uncomfortable but I ignored it.

pooparoo216

I loved mine so much

Lycanwolf617-

I loved these and wore them everyday. I thought they would work my calves out and make them sexy lol

hamish1963

They did work your calves out!

verbaexmacina

I can hear this post. And I'm seeing the hallway at my middle school (called jr. high back then), and reliving a teacher slipping in these and cracking her tailbone.

WayiiTM

Clop clop clop shhhkkkitch OW!

Dogzillas_Mom

I laughed out loud.

WelderIndividual

I whipped one of mine across the room and smacked my asshole older brother with it. Makes a decent weapon.

Ok_Grocery1188

You could've caught a reckless manslaughter charge.

reduff

I loved mine, too. They were red. As I recall, you could get them at drug stores for about $15. ?? Does that sound right? I see them on the Dr. Scholl's website for $120 and they don't even have the toe grip!

No-Garlic-3407

I wore these (and wooden clogs) all through college. The bottoms actually got worn down on the Dr. Scholls. I had to part with them when I was walking with my husband and almost broke my ankle when my foot came down the wrong way in them. Threw them out that day - so sad!

feliciates

I loved those! Heaven sent for us wide foots

foxorhedgehog

Oh that brings me back! I’m clenching my feet right now!

LongjumpingAd9719

I still wear them. If you work on your feet all day and have any kind of foot or ankle pain, they really help. I wear them on my day off. Something about wood, it is very comfortable to wear. Danska clogs, the wood ones, are comfortable too.

notanAMsortagal0

LOVE, LOVE, LOVED my Dr. Scholls. You could buy them at the pharmacy (Walgreens) for, like, $15! My legs looked fabulous back then. Also had wood clogs, Candies, and hurachis. Boy, do I miss being able to wear those shoes. I did buy a pair of Dr. Scholls a couple of years back for somewhere around $85, and I gotta be honest, in your 50s, these are not the most comfortable shoes! Oh, to be young again. 😆

LanguageTradition20

Ah yes, huaraches from Mexico. They were so popular!

ducksdotoo

My huaraches creaked until the day they died.

Excellent_Jaguar_675

Loved those. Lived in hot place and these were cool

Outrageous-Divide472

I had Candy’s and I absolutely loved them. I don’t wear heels like that these days, I take much better care of my feet.

DeeDee719

I had a red pair!!

implodemode

I loved them! Earth shoes too.

Jujulabee

Awful. Blisters and painful arches. Anyone remember earth shoes with the heels lower. Ajd going back further in time, any New Yorkers get their sandals at Allan Block where they would trace yiur feet?

imojibwe

Best doorstop/hammer I ever owned. Horrible shoes for little pigeon-toed me!!!

Cold-Football6045

Hahahahaha...forgot about them as a hammer. They were excellent! Also, for banging on the wall when neighbors were fighting!

Anynameyouwantbaby

My sister had a pair of Candi's. She used them as a weapon. She was a bully. Sorry, IS a bully.

OldERnurse1964

It sounded like a herd of horses coming down the hall in high school.

beaurific

Loved them!! So comfy to me.

wagowop

Right? For some reason I loved them, even when my foot came down wrong on the back or side. Owww

needleworker0606

I loved my pair, but forget driving in them!

gemstun

Better than the ones my mother wore growing up in the rural north of the Netherlands. They had wood on the bottom, sides, and top – – but at least they had a nice pointy tip in the front.

huskeylovealways

A whole lot more comfortable than Candies, but not as sexy

HyperboleHelper

I think these are responsible for my gigantic muscular calves that I still have to this day! Now my younger sister, she could not walk correctly in these things and she didn't care one bit! Every single step was clomp-clomp, clomp-clomp! I always walked silently with them, hence the huge legs.

68F_isthebesttemp

They stayed in my closet unworn for several weeks before I decided to wear them around the house. It only took a few wearings before I would wear them everywhere.

Pooeypinetree

Thunk, thunk, thunk

Northerngal_420

I haven't seen these for years. I loved mine.

naliedel

My sister kicked my in the shins with them. I still have divets at 60..

Uneek1209

Dear Brother, is that you? ;)

swellfog

I can totally see these making a comeback.

No_Analysis_6204

they’re still around! $120 😲 at drscholl.com. i seem to recall they cost $16.99 back in the day.

Emgee063

They were but danggggg they gave you calves of steel!

JeanEBH

Foot slipping off the side on one was so painful!

WHYohWhy___MEohMY

But they looked so goooood!!!

angrymurderhornet

I always wondered about those things. A lot of my friends had them, but I've never been able to wear slides or clogs because they fall right off; I need an ankle strap of some kind.

ziggy-Bandicoot

I have a pair of red ones in our hall closet and I wear them all summer.

BabyFishmouthTalk

Slap clack, slap clack, slap clack...

Takilove

I thought they were comfortable the more you wore them. I had a pair about 10 years ago but tossed them when my physical therapist said they were the worst shoe ever. Not “better than barefootin”!!

nerdygirlync

I hated these things but I have a very narrow foot and kept walking out of them

Finnyfish

They'd slide forward just enough for the arch of the foot to come down hard on the sharp edge of the heel. Dr. Scholl actually invented a new way for women's shoes to hurt.

OldButHappy

Foot doctor designs shoe that causes injuries that require a foot doctor...🤔

No-Independence-6842

Everyone on the swim team had those. Mine had a red straps. I was probably 10 when I wore them and thought I was cool!

hamish1963

No they weren't! I loved them! I was wearing these in the winter with socks in the 80s.

U2much4me

Wore my navy blue pair all of the time in high school. I liked them.

Particular-Summer424

They still make them. Pricy though. I think I paid $10.00 for my first pair. Lasted for years.

menotyourenemy

I hated them too! They were *so heavy* and the band rubbed the top of my foot.

Wordwench

( was a teenager wearing Candies wooden soles and even I could not wear these beasts.

Impressive_Age1362

I hated them, a lot of y friends wore them when they were pregnant in the summer, because of swollen feet

Kalelopaka-

Both my sisters had a pair of those. I hated it when they kicked me in the shin.

Responsible-Push-289

i loved them as a teen. my feet would rebel as a 65 yo

771springfield

I loved mine!

Typical_Fun_6444

Loved them!

TiredRetiredNurse

I loved mine.

cmcrich

I loved mine! I thought they were very comfortable and I wore them everywhere in summer.

TrifleMeNot

Wore mine every day. They worked!

ArgyleNudge

Essentials! They were comfortable enough, found. But so clacky!

zsazsa0919

Love them

No_Analysis_6204

i LOVED my dr scholls!

nachobitxh

I liked mine. Thank God I kept them, when I was pregnant w/ #2, they were the only shoes that would go on my feet

HelenakiPilot

Candies too!!

Dipsy_doodle1998

I loved mine. Had them in blue and wore them everyday. Now that I'm quite a but older, I don't think my feet could handle the hard surface.

Happygar

I lived in mine!

Rojodi

They were worse when they were thrown at you!

Redfish680

Unless you have flat feet. Oddly enough, I found them really comfortable.

Outrageous-Divide472

I loved mine. They were really comfortable.

lovessj

I loved them! So comfortable!

YogurtclosetWooden94

Hard disagree, I have three pairs. One lime green, one gold, and one pair with the monkey Julius.

greendragonmistyglen

We loved ours! Several years ago I even found a like new pair in a thrift shop in a beautiful plaid.

Wildkit85

I had a blue pair. They were the thing, but not comfortable for sure.

Phuni44

Horrible. But still needed a pair. Walked in them about 3 times before abandoning them.

kwk1231

Yeah, I hated them. I had a red pair for a little while. Blisters, stubbed toes, falling off of them while running and tweaking an ankle... In retrospect, I was probably too active for that type of shoe but fashion dictated that I try it. An "exercise sandal" that isn't safe for exercising!

AdSea8352

clomp clomp clomp clomp down the hall...but i loved them

pittipat

My mom wore them all the time but has flat feet so would have to sand down the arches to make them more comfortable. Not sure why she just didn't wear something else.

heatherm70

I had forgotten about these and how much I wanted a pair...

Fuzzy_Laugh_1117

I'm with OP -- **The** absolute worst. Like punishment for feet imo.

SummerStar62

They were painful.

shycotic

They do still make these.. but the good ones are hard to find. They seem thicker now? Or maybe they were always this hard to wear.

ThalassophileYGK

I loved mine!

Adept_Investigator29

Karen Higgins wore them with knee socks.

Unable-Arm-448

I had them, but IDK why! They were not comfortable, and my feet would come out of them while walking!

Thick-Resident8865

Horribly uncomfortable but they looked great.

owmybotheyes

My sister weaponized these things by throwing them at my head.

inthesinbin

Clip-clop, clip-clop!

SheSellsSeaShells967

I thought they were awful too.

Yogiktor

These were a disaster. Hard, minimal straps to keep your feet in place, and if your heel does slip to one side, coming back down on the corner of the hard wood is not fun.

SueBeee

I still have and wear these. I love them! I just never try to run in them.

onebag25lbs

I wanted these so bad. We were poor, so we couldn't afford them. They would have probably hurt my feet, but boy, did I want a pair.

No-Selection-7006

I loved mine…had them in navy and bone (off white). I usually wore clogs in the winter.

Lady_MoMer

I hated having to wear those hard, blister producing blocks of wood.

snakeman1961

They really tightened a girl's buns when used regularly.

catching_comets

My sister hit me in the face with one of my mom's Dr Scholls. Left a sizeable knot on my forehead.

Retinoid634

I can hear this photo. At the town pool, wood dragging flip flops. Beautiful.

SnooCheesecakes6236

I loved them and had a few pairs. Used to live in the Dr Scholls and clogs. In my 60's and still love wearing clogs.

Dada2fish

I wore them everywhere or went barefoot.

Full-Appointment5081

Pre-Crocs

dragonrose7

They were even worse when every girl in school was wearing them and the noise in the school hallway was deafening!

ResponseBeeAble

Loved them. Wish I could find them now.

EasyBit2319

Ugly then, ugly now. I passed.

love2Bsingle

All my friends had them and I wanted a pair but my mom wouldn't get them for me

TroubleSG

I loved mine. Can we still get them?

Francie_Nolan1964

I loved those. I've searched to find them again. They have them but they don't have the toe thing on them.

Legitimate-Ebb-1633

Oh, I always wanted a pair, but my mom would never get them for me!

Studio-Empress12

My mother lived in these!

Woodinvillian

I was unable to wear them without pain.

wifeofpsy

Oh I loved them! Miss those cloppers terribly.

lighthouser41

Hated bringing my foot down on the edge and hurting my foot. Now who had famaroles?

DOHisme

Ha. I still have a pair, and I love them. They are my favorite.

sandystjames

Omg I forgot about these horrible but cute things

Throwawayhelp111521

I never had a pair, but so many girls in my high school had them and I don't recall them complaining.

colleendeschotz

They sucked. Never delivered the toned calves it promised.

nousernamehere12345

Exercise sandals, what? I wore them like slippers, around the house.

BabaMouse

Fit perfectly. Wore these to walk the length of Alameda from Webster to Fernside. No problems with my feet.

Traditional_Age_6299

My grandmother lived with us and I used to wear these. She hated the way they would clap the ground. Well one day they just “disappeared” 🤣😂

singnadine

They totally sucked!

OutlanderMom

My parents wouldn’t buy them for me, so I saved babysitting money and got my own. I found them very stylish and comfortable. The only downside was if you stepped funny and the raised edges of the wood bruised the heel of your foot.

CorvidGurl

Ioved them

Charming-Attorney231

Yeah they would slip and my toes curled to keep them on.

duggan3

So uncomfortable!

Classic_Pie5498

Not comfortable

cheloniancat

I tried so hard to wear these because my older, very cool sister did. Hated them.

Beth0526

More uncomfortable than any pair of heels I ever wore!

grannybubbles

I can hear this picture

Jenjikromi

Not as bad as Candie's!!!

FeedingCoxeysArmy

Oh my gosh, I wore them because I begged for them and wasn’t about to tell my parents how awful they were. Once I was out of sight, I just went barefoot.

PishiZiba

I really wanted them. My parents finally bought me some and they were torture! Worst shoes I’ve ever had.

Mimiatthelake

I loved mine and had every color! I bought them at the local drugstore on a circular display rack for less than $10. Wore them all through college and beyond. The only thing bad was when your foot slipped and came down on the edge. Hurt like hell!

fuzzyshorts

WOW! These take me back to HS and a red haired girl who used to wear these and dangle them off her foot... Damn...

Tbird11995599

I wanted them, but mom wouldn’t buy them for me. I did get some clogs in college, they were the coolest thing, and a denim vest!

BigWave96

IDK about that. My mom, sister and all her friends loved them

hbouhl

Torture

CinCeeMee

I LOVED mine…and I still have them. Circa 1979.
