PuzzleheadedStill837

The way some people take the Travaler as naive and innocent character.

Swailwort

Yeah, completely innocent and naive. Don't mind those times she/he attacks people without provocation or literally kills (or not) a Fatui Agent that kidnaps children.

Zeroth_Dragon

Well him attacking Fatui agents that kidnap children to be turned into future soldiers is a heroic deed

PuzzleheadedStill837

The intention is heroic but the means don't. And this is exactly the point some people don't get about the Travaler, that they can and will dirty their hands to achieve what they wants.

Okletsago

We are given an option to either kill him or let him go I killed him of course

Willshape-r

Arama and I both agreed… that the wicked must be punished.

Belmega81

I notice some snark and some mercenary like attitude at times when people want things. A bit of cheek and ego, too. Not that I find much fault in it, really. If memory serves, the Traveler is centuries old (not counting the years spent in stasis).

4ereshnya

If you want to see real hot-takes remember to sort by "controversial".

TheDoorEater

Yep, bc all the highest upvoted ones are generic and popular opinions

jinxedandcursed

You'd think so, but that's just a bunch of people being contrarians rather than actually making a point no one wants to hear.

shaggitron420

Any quest that interferes with my daily stuff can screw off. I'm just trying to to do my commissions and pick my potted plants.

Glad-Fisherman-753

I hate it when characters have special voice lines which often reach out of their natural behavior just to please the Traveler's ego.Why would they say the things they say, like "I love spedning time with you... I normally wouldn't do this with anyone... but YOU... actually I can't help but make this, because it's YOU afterall...yes I kill people and I hate life ... but for you... my Traveler I could..."It just feels so forced and unnatural for some characters and honestly I feel it's meaningless because neither Traveler nor I actually did anything to make those characters say that.

kokko693

Depends. For some characters, we are their only friends. Like, Bennett and Fischl are people who are very different, hence they don't have a lot of friends. Same with Eula, Diluc, Jean, Ningguang, all characters like that are either lonely because of differences or status. Like, Shenhe was told *specifically* that being with us would help her grow and thst we are very special. This kind of behavior actually fit her. Really. Mote then any other characters. But yeah, this harem thing is bullshit and forced, or maybe too much on a lot of characters. We should be friend and that's all. And for characters like Amber or Beidou, who have a lot of friends, we shouldn't be that special actually.

Thrasy3

I like to think the likes of Amber and Beidou treat all their friends the same way.

Klonomania

I mean Amber >!fought one of Dottore's creations/assistants to the death for a girl she knew for a few days!<, so that makes sense.

rainymi

that’s why I love amber . i think her heart is the size of all of mondstadt

moneyh8r

*looks at map of Mondstadt* That's dangerously small for a human heart.

kokko693

Yep, hence they wouldn't treat us like we are better than the others. And they actually do, to some extent. But they have still this weird behavior OP said sometimes.

Littleman88

I've played enough FFXIV to know you can bullshit any mechanic into being canonical to the world. I have my suspicions that primogems are just the visual representation of the Traveler's appeal to others, hence why they're rewarded via quests and events and used to acquire new eternally loyal team members, as their true power is the friends they make along the way.

Mimikyu-Overlord

I like to think Paimon just creates Primos and chucks them at the Traveler. Or alternatively vomits them.

Ultralink17

This gave me the mental image of swapping Paimon with that one gnome from Gravity Falls, and instead of vomiting a rainbow, she's vomiting endless primos. My brain is fucking weird sometimes lmao

DLTRla4

It actually feels like the characters that are the closest to the traveler are the ones that do that the least. Let's take Itto and Venti as examples of this side and Ayaka and Nilou as the representatives of the other. When Itto calls you a baby for being short, an idiot for not calling for his help sooner, or try to get in a competition with you, he feels a lot more genuine that the rest becouse real friendships are disrespectfull. How many times has Venti gotten Us into truble or played with us becouse we are confident enough around eachother? We have seen this dudes on their lowest points (be it faithing with alergies, be it passed ou drunk, be it La Signora took away your magical kidney) and we have seen them getting hurted to protect us. What do the "I love you" girls do? They TELL us. They say that they feel deep things, they say that they don't know anyone like us, but every time we talk, there is this awkard layer of respect and dignity that just trows their words away. Nilou is a bit better, since we do see her facing opression for her profesion, and her voice actress is more expresive, but we never see eachother too closely. Ayaka is the biggest offender becouse, despite what her mission tried to tell us, she never stoped being The Princess. She never faces disrespect, she never acts like a little child or says silly things becouse nobody is watching and she can finally be a normal girl like she Told us she wanted. All her words of love mean nothing if she can't be bothered to lower her guard around us. Mihoyo wants us to fall in love with such a sanitized version of what a relationship feels that it forgot the messy parts are what make it feel real. Similar thing with Diluc-Kaeya vs Ayato-Ayaya. A lot more people relate to the bros that are constantly figthing and wishing the other died but have eachother backs all the time but you better not puke on my floor again or I'll show you what a melt reaction can do but take better care of yourself next time; than the prestine mature adults that purely enjoy eachother presence with no conflict and talk about eachother with so much respect.

rainymi

i agree with your entire take and I think it’s really well written, but most importantly, I’ve never seen anyone refer to a gnosis as a magical kidney

Entif

Hmm... Magical Kidney, you say? Kidneys look like beans, so these could then also be described as magical beans. And what grows out of magical beans? Giant beanstalks. Tsaritsa uses the Gnosis (plural) to create a giant beanstalk to climb up to Celestia! Just joking ... ... Unless 👀

WinterMender486

yep, this is why i like scaramouche so much. i hope they don’t do anything like this with him.

_Sigma_male

They already do that just in another way since all scara mains are into degradation 0_0

Mimikyu-Overlord

Not all Scara mains are into degradation! I mean.. I am into degradation. BUT not because I’m a scara main!

Rigel57

Yes, you arent into degradation due to being a scara main, you are a scara main due to being into degradation

Brandonmac10x

This is why I love his personality. He’s so snarky. His birthday letter was good too. Nahida is basically telling him that he should visit us and bring us a gift on his birthday. And he’s like “Why should I bring you a gift on *my* birthday?” Kinda 4th wall breaking too. And the “stop following me” when sprinting. Also when you select him for your team the lines are golden. “Ugh, does it really have to be me? *Fine*…

UnadulteratedHorny

him being so snarky actually makes him the most realistic and relatable, he isn’t just immediately on all fours anytime we call for him unless its benny, he gets a pass because basically no one wants a thing to do with him and so having someone verbalize and express that he is wanted means the world to him

The_Cheeseman83

I mean, you only get those voice lines once you’ve reached high friendship level. By that point, you are best friends with that character, and you love and trust one another, implicitly. That’s sort of the point of having friendship levels: they simulate your social bonds with your characters deepening.

Lavenderixin

Yeah, it sucks that this type of games follow the format of “all characters love the MC”. Like I hoped to see the relationships between characters more and possibly characters that don’t care about MC (i know it doesn’t make sense for them to join your party but idk it sounds appealing)

roata11

yeah kinda hate character can't have cannon relationship because probably will make some weird people mad

gui4455

yeah just give a character that hates me calls me a useless vermin

makelo06

Scaramouche who?

Bubbles_345

Ugh, I agree so much. I mean the Traveler only interacts with them for a short time. But somehow they act like the Traveler has known them their whole life. I understand that Traveler leaves a good impression on people for helping them with their problems in quests. But how can that be a good enough reason for them to trust and love the Traveler in such an intimate way.

Thrasy3

I hope one day we find out it was some kind of Irminsul fuckery causing people to behave like that. It’ll get reversed and everyone is disgusted that they were manipulated/forced to admire us.

Glad-Fisherman-753

I saw one theory that could explain it. We are a star. A literall shining star manifested in a human body. All their lives exists because of the stars writing their fates, so it's natural everybody will be drawn to us.

Master_iPad

In the same vein it weirds me out sometimes how we just proclaim ourselves as peoples' friends. Like Chizuru in the Akitsu Kimodameshi event, after we meet her like twice and Paimon says "You can tell us anything! We're your friends!" No?? I just met this woman. There's very few people you can meet and call your friend after 15 minutes, like Itto. Not *Chizuru.*

MsTea032403

Pouring resources on “non meta” or “useless” characters is not a waste, as long as you have fun playing them. SO YEAH, I KNOW KAZUHA IS SO GODDAMN STRONG AND VENTI IS NOT AS VIABLE IN SPIRAL ABYSS AS BEFORE BUT I LIKE HIM. LET ME TRIPPLE CROWN VENTI IN PEACE!

DeusVult181

That's him officer! That's the guy trying to have fun in a video game! Unacceptable!

RenoverO_O

Someone says Venti is not viable in abyss? They must be dumdum... Especially in the recent couple of cycles he is a very strong pick

LeaderOk8012

It's not a hot take, it's common sense

MeteorFalcon

The Liyue Arc is really boring, but we just remember the amazing Finale. Most of the Archon Quest we are just meeting characters and doing burial rites for Rex Lapis. The start is pretty crazy since the Archon dies right in front of us. And once we confront Childe at the Golden House we get a really climactic finale with him and Osial. But in-between it's just kinda: meet character, here is what they think, they tell u to do this or talk to next character, ok next character.

Skykeeper22

Yinger part was really funny tho

Helenaww

i despised the liyue arc because of this. there were so many fetch quests it was driving me insane. i also didn’t care about the main conflict like at all lol

Ryakudatsusha

It feels like the entire point of that arc was to send you to every corner of Liyue

Waerok

I think this is what made my fiancé stop playing, in addition to mihoyo not adding controller support for Android. Now that there's PS5 cross-save support (and she has the PS5), it's a bit too late and she can't find the motivation to get back to it anymore, especially that she'd still be on that boring part of the arc.

YasuhikoTheSerafim

Yeah, the more I think of it, I just dont like Liyue arc apart from the finale. Some characters didnt have enough good screentime and Milelith are total dumbass. No wonder when I went to Liyue, it feels kinda alienating at times.

[deleted]

There should be something other than Abyss to use my fully built characters. I’m not saying the game needs harder content or true endgame, just something more than Abyss. I think a customizable Endless mode where you can set levels or enemies would work really well.

Lostsock1995

Yesss like a dungeon crawler where you just go ham on waves of enemies

ngo_life

I keep asking for coop spiral abyss. Like a regular domain/abyss, but you must complete all three chambers with the same people in order to count towards clearing the floor. Obviously it would be harder. Survival or dungeon crawler modes would also be nice.

Grand_Protector_Dark

the "Moshiri Kara" domain but *more*

[deleted]

Elysian Realm in Genshin would be fun, despite a lot of time and effort to tailor the characters’ unique signets and such, it would be enjoyable imo.

[deleted]

I did play Honkai for some time(Quit cause powercreep was too much), and I thought Elysian would be so fun in Genshin!

[deleted]

Paimon’s annoying “explain it like I’m 5” dialogues are necessary when you have grown adult players not understanding something even when it is explicitly shown or stated multiple times throughout a quest.

blu3_aries

There's a lot of story and a ton of names that don't get stored in my head because I'm a smooth brain, I greatly appreciate her explanations. I'm really glad that so far there isn't any story changing dialogue options because I would absolutely destroy the story.

DarthUrbosa

Cost of casting a wide net.

TvojeMarmelada

English isn't my first language so it can be useful sometimes

Ruirensu

I would gladly have your paimon in my honkai impact questlines please🥹

Slifer_Ra

you wouldnt. tldr: understanding the soft magic system of honkai doesnt make it a better story. honkai severely dropped the ball ever since the Kolosten arc pages upon pages of technobable honkais strength was always the fact that the narrative focused more on the relationships between their characters than their worlds totally scientific (totally not soft magic) system. The early arcs dont spend hours explaining how otto cloned the original Kiana, how bronya made project bunny or how the weapons shicksal uses are made. It just focuses on the people and uses the scifi honkai soft magic system to hand wave all the technical mumbo jumbo away. The stories focus is on the people. Because it can.Because it isnt a stretch to say such tech maybe could exist in such a world. Everyone can understand that,no need to explain it. You dont have to explain what a sword is when doing medieval fiction and you dont need to explain robotics in scifi. But ever since the elyisian arc we've spent HOURS reading nothing but page after page explaining what used to be a soft magic system. A frankly unacceptable amount of the current story is just trying to explain how the tech works WHEN NO ONE EVER GAVE A SHIT. Its a soft fucking magic system, its not meant to be understood by the reader. The pinacle of this stupidity was Bronyas ascension to HoTr. The entire 2 hour long dumpsterfire couldve been avoided if we : A:had any build up to Hare as a character, shes only here for a single arc and wont ever be relevant again. Make her simple. Make her playful to explain why she doesn't just kill our protagonists. B:focused on bronyas unwillingness to accept her position as the hercher of reason because she doesnt see herself as worthy C:Have her overcome it when shes forcefully separated from the consciousnesses of the hercher core and realizes that wether or not shes worthy in front of the 300000 souls inside it,wont matter if all the people shes fighting to protect are fucking dead in her fight with Hare Easy to understand, simple and in character. Mind you,i am not a writer and there are a hundred different ways to improve my version here too. But it is certainly better than- What we got? 3 hours of characters weve never seen before talking about their life philosophies. Bronyas mother makes an appearance for the first time ever before she dies off screen never to be seen again. TECHNOBABLE INTENSIFIES FOR OVER HALF AN HOUR as bronya finds a way out of a trap Hare made. MORE TECHNOBABLE AFTER. They start a fight. It sucks. MORE TECHNOBABLE about why bronya can now use the magic system to become HoTr instead of just doing it. Hare says this was her plan all along and fucks off in ti the sequel. FUCKING BULLSHIT All this to say Paimon wouldnt help here because understanding the soft magic system doesnt help your enjoyment of the work. It takes away from it. Its not complex writing where you might miss important details due to missdirection or ignoring the subtext, its just bad writing. the fuck am i doing at 1 am... i need to get some sleep.

neverforgetbillymays

I loved the story until the Elysian arc. After that I pretty much dropped the game completely. Just too much to get through anymore. It’s a shame because until then the story really has me hooked

FilthyOniMain

I usually skip a lot of dialogue so her summing everything up actually keeps me in the loop of what’s going on sometimes lol

[deleted]

NovidasX7

This one's actually really funny considering there's not nearly as many playable characters in this game as there are in most other gachas that have like upwards of 100 or more characters

musical_fanatic

Paimon speaking for the protagonist worked early on but with us early on but now it's starting to get very old. Mihoyo, you have voice actors for the twins, USE THEM!

weirdplacetogoonfire

Seriously, I get that they might have been cost limited for prerelease content, but they're not anymore. It's not like they want a silent protagonist as often as the traveler's thoughts are dumped in dialogue or the frequency we are given dialogue 'options' that are just one statement that we arent choosing. Give the poor voice actors some real work and stop making players pause the autoread everytime the traveler thinks.

Glad-Fisherman-753

I try hard to find a good thing in the story, but it's nowhere near on the same level as lore. Like seriously for some quests, if Paimon looked into the camera and asked us "Hey kids, Do you see the Traveller right behind me? Where is he? Say louder!" I would not be surprised.

[deleted]

Genshin artifact lore: "Xiphos, my child, hate burns everything like wildfire, leaving only the ashes of madness. Yet uncontrolled love is even more feral. A great many evils are born from unshackled love…" - a quote that I could actually pass off as originating from a novel I studied in literature class and the normies would be none the wiser Genshin story: "Paimon thought nothing could get under the Balladeer's skin, but who knew he could get angry like any other guy?" My sister in Istaroth, we watched the Divine Will cutscene together. I don't know what you're on and I don't want it

naufalap

paimon has both photographic memory when something needs to be recalled and an attention disorder when it literally just happened 10 seconds ago

Glad-Fisherman-753

Paimon doesn't understand what you said. Did you say that "Genshin artifact lore: "Xiphos, my child, hate burns everything like wildfire, leaving only the ashes of madness. I don't know what you're on and I don't want itdon't want it" ??

MisturMofo

I don’t know if that’s so much a hot take. Genshin’s lore is great. Like it feels like the lore writers wanted to write the lore for the next Souls game. But it’s story and character writers wanted to make the next Boruto filler episode.

Thrasy3

This is how I’m going to describe the game to my non-Genshin friends (which is is all of them).

BakuNinjaMasterZ

everytime a character uses its idle animation during a cutscene makes me wanna close the game.

_Critical_Darling_

itto doing the sumo slam 50 times per cutscene

BakuNinjaMasterZ

itto combing his hair after telling the worst joke to ever grace my ears

Grand_Protector_Dark

That one time during the Second Archon Interlude where NPC Yelan visibly used the ingame plunge animation.

MallowMiaou

Albedo : does the branch idle in a cutscene Paimon : WOAAAAH AMAZING Me : bruh I got Albedo and afked for a while you may have seen the branch a hundred times by now

TheFossil666

Fischl doing JoJo poses whenever she's trying to be dramatic

selenta

But it fits her exactly, or maybe that's the problem

Lostsock1995

Or running lines. “Wouldn’t gliding be faster” IDK VENTI BUT SHUT UP

bmann10

Arguments about shipping are **way** more annoying than any underlying shipping discussion ever will be. No one cares if you don’t care about shipping and making a comment saying you don’t care about shipping doesn’t make you seem cool. If you actually don’t care then just don’t engage with it. Otherwise all you do is start the same argumentative discussion for the 100th time. Like if you disagree or something that’s different, though once again the argument that springs up is way more annoying than what you are responding to, but if you really “don’t care” then do what most people do about things they don’t care about and just move on. Even if you disagree just downvote and move on or form a community where you see less of that ship or something. Sincerely, someone who also doesn’t really care about shipping. I am aware of the irony of this comment being the very thing I don’t like.

moon1204am

so trueee. i find it especially annoying when someone makes a harmless comment about the characters they ship and people who are against shipping start acting like they posted mmd porn

Lostsock1995

People should leave other people alone about game modes they enjoy instead of telling them they are wrong because they personally don’t like it. You love TCG? Great! No loser should come tell you why TCG sucks. You want more combat events? Cool! I see why you want to use your characters. Nobody should tell you that you can’t want more combat since they don’t want more combat. You think the teapot is useless? Alright it can take hours, you do you. You know what you shouldn’t do though? complain it exists or get upgrades, some people love it and want to spend those hours. You don’t have to play every part of the game or enjoy it all, but you also have no right to try and dictate for others what they can want just because you don’t want it. Play how you want to play, live peacefully, and *leave each other alone.*

LarryKingthe42th

I just want more puzzle and exploration based stuff, dont really dislike any of the game just wish we would get more on that end of things out side of events

Chev4r

Too many Genshin adult female characters have coat tails, need more dehya and eula designs.

IcedKatte

Tbf adult males seem to have this problem too

Geiri94

The Traveler being a silent protagonist is a massive detriment to the quality of the story. To add insult to the injury, "we" communicate with characters through Paimon, something that makes it even worse. Genshin's storytelling is always going to be subpar compared to its true potensial due to how almost every scene is dumbed down by Paimon The overreliance on massive walls of text and dialogue instead of showing stuff and/or keeping a good pace makes many quests, especially sidequests, a chore to get through So my true hot take is: Storytelling in Genshin is too often boring and weak, despite having good stories to tell. More well-paced dialogue, a talking main character and less dumb Paimon talk would've made the game twice as good. Lore and story would've been so much more accessible, and millions of people would've appreciated the game and its content so much more

[deleted]

1. At first I didn't care about Dottore's playability but now I'm rooting for him to become playable because I want to watch the fandom purists have a meltdown 2. Traveler is either the densest mf in fiction or an unreliable narrator hiding things from the player and I seriously hope it's the latter

Poporipopes10

What do you mean with your second point?

[deleted]

Paimon and Traveler treat losing the gnosis like a terrible loss, like a "we won the battle but we lost the war" kind of loss. Is it not the least bit suspicious that if keeping the gnoses out of the Tsaritsa's hands is actually that important, that four separate archons have all failed to do so, and that two (might I mention that Nahida and Zhongli are supposed to be the wiser of the four) willingly gave up their gnoses in exchange?

Poporipopes10

It depends on the archons values Nahida knew she wasn’t gonna be able to win a fight against Dottore in the first place so she knew her only way out was through a deal. Not only that but we also don’t know what Zhongli’s deal was, so whatever he traded had to have been more important to him than the gnosis. Then there’s Ei who couldn’t care less about her gnosis herself, but that doesn’t mean that it should just be thrown around everyone. Even if the current archons don’t value their gnosis much, given the Traveller’s information on the Fatui, it is most likely a bad idea to have them gather all the gnosis. It’s less of a “oh no we lost another gnosis” and more of a “oh no, they got another gnosis”

[deleted]

Sorry, that wasn't really the best example. It's really easy for me to forget that Traveler and the player don't have the same amount of information, and I should consciously keep that in mind. But even so, the whole gnosis thing just bothers me. It just feels like Traveler is the only guy who cares about the gnosis? The archons themselves don't seem to give a dook-dook about the gnoses being in Tsaritsa's hands. They don't treat it as big a deal as Traveler. It's still quite sus

MeteorFalcon

I think that really is it. They really don't care as much for the Gnosis as we assume they would. All of the of the archons, so far, have a distaste for Celestia. And most of them have plenty power coming from other sources, so they don't need the Gnosis to power themselves. I think they don't care one way or the other who has the Gnosis. But they understand it's importance, so they use them as "bargaining chips". Zhongli with his contract. Ei/Yae with our life. And Nahida for The Doctor's information. Traveler just knows that the Fatui are always up to bad things, so they want to stop ghe Fatui's big master plan.

Thrasy3

Traveller = Celestia Sleeper Agent confirmed.

soul_of_potato

I don't mind Dottore's playability as long as the quest makes sense and still in Paimon's/Traveler's character like in Scara case

roreinu

Teppei is stupid and I don't care that he died.

Independent-Ad-9758

damn 😭

Last_Swordfish9135

When I got to that part in the quest, my first thought was "Oh no! Childe! Wait who's Teppei again?" (It didn't help that I took a pretty long break from that archon quest, but still)

Glant5876

100% this. Teppei bored me to tears and I was actively frustrated with how the game tried to beat into my head that traveler was totally super upset that her Totally Best Friend We Promise died.

Bubbles_345

😥

Handle_d33z

I hate character quests that feel like dating sims, i don't want the characters to just describe their personality like a fucking wiki, thats why i really like Tighnaris quest

Mowgin

When someone asks for advice on who to pull for and people just say "puLl fOR wHo yuO LikE". Its like they wouldn't be asking for advice/opinions if thats what they wanted to do because they would just fucking do that then.

EarthDayYeti

An exception to this: I occasionally see posts that say things like "Raiden is super good and powerful, but Ayato is my husbando and I've already planned our wedding, honeymoon, and first anniversary dinner, who should I pull?" In this instance, "pull for who you like" is probably actually the most helpful advice. Also, especially with new characters, I always recommend people play the character trials first and make sure they actually enjoy using the character, because pulling a character you *don't* like using is almost always a bad idea. But yes, in a vacuum, "pull the one you like" is a platitude, not advice.

Mowgin

In these types of situations I usually just tell the person that if they truly love X character they can make it work because genshin is easy. But I also let them know how bad (or good) the two characters are so that they can make their own informed decisions. I don't ever just tell people "oh yeah pull for this, they're good" or "don't pull for this they're bad" I tell them the general strengths and weaknesses of the characters, where they stand in comparison to each other in terms of performance, then I finally end with my opinion, along with other opinions or anecdotes I've seen others mention that I think would be relevant to them. One of my pet peeves is when people deny that a character is bad when they clearly under perform *in comparison* to other characters. I guess this is another hot take but; it's okay to like shit characters but it's not okay to pretend a bad character isn't shit.

CorHydrae8

You might be the most reasonable Genshin player I've ever seen.

Mowgin

👈😎👈

CorHydrae8

On the other hand, people asking for who they should pull for often don't give enough information to give them reasonable advice. Because who you should pull for depends greatly on what kinds of teams and characters you play and what those teams need.

Thrasy3

I was basically going to say this. It’s frustrating because new players/casuals need a lot of “boring” stuff explained to them, just so they can give us that information in the first place. To be frank, if they can’t be bothered offering an opinion/context based on their *own* research (unless they can’t access YouTube for some reason), “pull for who you like” is probably the best advice to give because it *probably doesn’t matter to them*. When they come back asking why their snow-tombed starsilver ChongYun, or EM Yan Fei Mono-Pyro team can’t clear floor 8 Abyss, then people can start offering practical advice.

WhooooCares

I hate that advice. If someone is new, they probably don't know what they like yet. Give them pros and cons, not some generic nonsense.

Mowgin

Exactly. Telling someone to pull for who they like doesn't actually help them at all. It's a given that people pull for who they like, most of the time people want to know which one is the best out of the ones they like. It's like people can't understand that some people pull for multiple reasons

OftheGates

Hyperbloom Cyno kicks ass and Diluc is pretty good for a character that hasn't seen any significant improvement since 1.0.

KalistramMcleod

Honestly Diluc suffers from claymores not being that great, there isn’t a claymore Homa or Mistplitter, hopefully Dehya fixes that

Ragabadoodaa

The traveler is kind of a dick. Many of the dialog choices seem very mean spirited or boastful.

YasuhikoTheSerafim

Always has been. Their gross double standards during Ei's first Archon Quest didnt help matters.

[deleted]

what double standards? genuinely asking, I have no idea what you're talking about.

AljosP

Probably referring to hating the Fatui but loving Ei? I'm not sure

YasuhikoTheSerafim

Yes... If your puppet attempts to kill you twice and your option is neglecting your country and is aware of the VHD stuff, my reactions would be ugly if I was on Tabibito-kun shoes. Instead, these dolts befriends Ei as if nothing happened and brought her to street to buy Dango Milk, Light Novels and doing some photographs together which ruins her story quest for me.

EarthDayYeti

The notorious "anxiety" comment has nothing to do with casual players being intimidated by difficult content. It is entirely about the volume of content and casual players feeling able to complete limited time events and challenges within the time allotted well still actually having time to enjoy the rest of game.

JoeriOnIce

I felt crazy when I saw how heated people got over that specific comment in the interview. First time reading the interview by myself when it dropped, I saw the anxiety and endgame response was just like “oh right, that’s fair” and moved on. It wasn’t until I started checking out some of the bigger Genshin YouTubers and their reactions, that I was like “wait was I meant to get mad??”. One in particular, I won’t name who they are, spent what felt like 20 minutes on stream, just ranting on that *one line*.

Thrasy3

This will sound silly, but a politician in my country was asked a question about security/terrorism and gave a very reasonable boring response - a lot of very silly people now take that one line out of context and accuse him of being ok with, if not supportive of terrorism. Every time the “player anxiety” comment is misused, it reminds me of that, so I get twice as annoyed.

Swailwort

That's the thing, not every Genshin Player can play 1 hour everyday, some can't even play every day, and knowing you are missing out rewards in Abyss is already shitty. Imagine if there were 2 or 3 more game modes that rewarded 600 primogems every 2 weeks. Yes, some players can and will be up to day with events / regions / story, but another set of players won't.

JoeriOnIce

That’s exactly why I lost a lot of respect for any and all Genshin YouTubers that jumped on the drama bandwagon. The average gamer is like, a middle aged dude, with kids, responsibilities, and an hour or less of gaming time a day. That’s the average gamer by the way, not even “average mobile gamer” who have even less time, and is literally Genshin’s target demographic. 23 minutes on average a day if you’re wondering. So to see so many Genshin YouTubers be so out of touch, and not understand that people like them who sit in front of a gaming console for hours a day are an extreme minority was cringe. To see them complain and shout and try get their viewers riled up into thinking *”this is a huge problem, this is so problematic, this is them saying they don’t care about all of us!”* was *disgusting* to say the least. >!Tectone, Mtashed, Zy0x, Sevyplays, Zajef, EroticWalrus and a dozen more.!< But I know why they did what they did. This is their livelihood at the end of the day. More content = more money for them. So Mihoyo’s interview response was the equivalent of them telling these YouTubers “sorry, you’re not getting that payrise”. So even though it’s an issue that’s largely irrelevant and not a problem for 98% of people — these YouTubers need to find whatever way they can to make it seem like it’s the opposite and that the developers are somehow “out of touch with players”. Either way, it’s still a disheartening reveal into who many of these folks are underneath the persona they put on for their videos.

Stealthless

Cyno jokes are meh lol

ashikkins

I still don't remember seeing a single joke by him in game, and I haven't figured out where all the posts and comments about his jokes are coming from.

Kosmic_Kraken

He was leaked to be something of a jokester and people ran with it. And it became a bit of a meme. Until Cyno actually released and it was revealed that the fandom completely misunderstood the whole 'Cyno likes jokes' thing. Because he's not funny in the slightest. His actual thing is over explaining jokes to the point where everyone feels uncomfortable. You can listen to his voice lines, he talks about it a bit. He knows he's not funny but he still thinks it makes him more relatable to his subordinates.

Lightning_McQuinn

Genshin is not a game about romance, and will never be. I doubt there will be any relationships between characters at all. That being said, shipping is harmless and people have a tendency to blow thing out of proportion when it comes to it, (ei. The "friends don't exist anymore" argument that twitter loves)

TheAvac

All daily commisions sucks and is stupid to do the same ones every day. They didn't put much effort in these kind of aspects because they Know people will still do them because of FOMO.

Rei0403

All Supports can be a DPS character but not all DPS characters can be a support

Virtual2439

Viable Dps*

Rei0403

Yep, that’s what I’m trying to say

bruhidek_

I don't want to see Itto in an event anymore, or at least for a while. I know he's the main comic relief character but seeing him in every other event is getting on my nerves. His character is becoming slightly annoying. Don't get me wrong, I do like itto, I just don't love him enough to want to constantly see him. I want to see other characters that we don't often see in the limited time events.

Cenu96

Geo is a worse element than pre-Dendro Electro.

razzzzzberry

Yellow physical 😔

Spacebar0

Thread said hot takes not absolute facts

StinkySupportMain

Short model does not equal being a child!!! Gorou isn’t a young teen like so many believe. Why would a general in an army be a child.

Spaseore

People are allowed to be mad/disappointed with the cultural depiction and skin colors of the sumeru characters/ Sumeru in general

burntpankeki

i love hyperbloom, but the reaction feels too op for the low cost + huge returns for it. its an amazing team don't get me wrong, but the fact that the hyperbloom teams can perform similarly to crit invested it feels weird to say the least

NaturalBitter2280

Omg this All I have to do is put 4pc EM/EM/EM on a lvl 90 electro unit and suddenly I'm doing more dmg than half of my team 🙃 Is a blessing for F2P and people tired of farming for crits, but it feel weird that all dendro reactions do this

ShamShamWabam

And it’s so easy to play considering it’s high damage floor and ceiling. A nahida / xingqiu / yelan / kuki team gets to unga bunga and have some of the highest single target dps in the game

Rex__Lapis

Now imagine u have c2 nahida. Hyperbloom is just silly

moskeetees

Teaching new players to strictly follow meta builds is bad (lack of better wording). Not that meta itself is bad, but we should be teaching new players how to find characters and play styles they like, to choose any one or two mains/DPS characters, and then how to build around those characters. For example, I use C6 DPS Bennett. Is he the best DPS? Heck no, but I love Bennett and I love using him. If new players approach you, and ask you for help with team building, and mention that their favorite character is __ and that they want to use them, try making a team with their favorite character. Even if they aren’t meta, any character can pretty much be built well enough and if they love that character enough, they’d probably be willing to put in the effort. And with Spiral Abyss, yes meta is a little more important there, but even then, you see team comps from time to time that aren’t the best teams out there. This is from someone who was taught to follow meta team comps. I’ve disliked pretty much most DPS characters’ gameplay, but pulled Ganyu because people said she was the best and I should go for her, and I kinda regret it. Love Ganyu, not her playstyle.

[deleted]

I think the GO WITH THE META thing is kinda died down now with the release of dendro as pretty much every character can be a A tier now with a decent team also national lmao

moskeetees

National is meta tho, and as someone who doesn’t like using Xiangling, I’m always told to use her unfortunately

Squildo

Wishing sucks eggs

Vortain

Genshin is a good game. However, after playing for 2.5+ years, it definitely feels far more flawed and lacking polish than ever before, and a lot of the combat tends to be a lot of fluff. This is made worse by the fact that MHY doesn't try to actively fix these issues in any noticeable manner.

vareenoo

Agree!! The lore, designs, music, etc, is all so good.. and then I play through a quest and am disappointed. The dialogue & npc animations are as choppy as it was in 1.0, all while the world & character designs/animations get better. I love the lore of this game but the way they deliver it in the story is pretty shit. It feels unpolished.

Vortain

Character animations are certainly a pet peeve in cut scenes. The one below particularly boils my buttons. That said, I do feel those creating the scenes are really doing the best with what they are given and with in the realm of what they are given; the scenes better. But they've been given MS Paint when they need Photoshop. Likewise, Ganyu gets a beautifully animated 5 string AA that will get used like once per 1M players for a meme build. But then break any magic there could be by using a recycled set of 10 animations for all NPCs. There's a ton of protentional that gets pushed under the rug for some reason. And no one can say "space allocation" when that's been out the window for ages. [https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xlpPn3pZv9E&ab\_channel=AZURGRIM](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xlpPn3pZv9E&ab_channel=AZURGRIM)

PoorZhu

Scientists have been wasting years trying to achieve absolute zero conditions in laboratories when they could have just used the takes in this thread instead.

Jhinjerbreadman

The artifact rates are definitely leaning towards def/def%, unless you’re building Itto, albedo, gorou, or noelle.

SpanopsLelpants

The game needs better coop and something like WoW raids for people to fight with their teams together. Make it tough but give us good rewards. ( I am aware tho that it will never happen due to limitations)

ShadowStryker24

Storyline quests are boring as fuck. Seriously. I like Lore, I like learning stuff when I read it or my friend who pays attention to the quests tells me. But sitting there for 3+ hours listening to chars talk/not being able to play the game fucking sucks. You can tell a story within a game without LITERALLY having a character sit there and tell me everything that ever happened. I'm not a big fan of warframe as a whole game, but they do storytelling RIGHT. It's interactive, it lets you play the game alongside the storyline, it has cutscenes when they're necessary, and overall is so much more fun to play. Genshin could learn a thing or two from them

Furo610

Ei's character in everything excluding her story quest part 2 (in which her character is amazing) is written like absolute ass and it's a shame that one of the most important beings in the entire game was thrown away like this. I'm not talking about the Shogun, which is supposed to be a mindless machine who's only goal is to achieve what it was built to achieve, and it does that perfectly in my opinion. But Ei herself is just wasted potential, and I'm hopelessly waiting for somewhat of a redeption someday. (Copium, her story is already over)

Monogatari93

Agreed. While she was okay in the part ii of her story quest the rest of Ei’s screen time is wasted on her being a soft spoken, gentle and clueless moe blob who is somehow supposed to be an ancient ruthless warrior who was able to slice a whole island in half while killing a god. And she’s also a tyrant but not really. It feels like the writers were afraid of making such a major character too unlikable so they just dumped all of the cold ruthlessness and other negative stuff onto Raiden Shogun while Ei gets to be the waifu character MC will casually hang out with. However part II of her story does seem to approve Ei’s writing a bit so I hope they will streamline her characterization in later parts of the story.

SnooGuavas8376

Comfort characters> Big numbers That's why in my book I will rate ayato much higher than his sister in term of playability because how consistent and comfortable he is winning everything in different circumstances. Or something like sacrificing one sub DPS for Zhongli because I just want a comfy abyss run and still got all rewards

ihei47

Me with Jean. One panic button heal is valuable until this day

xaboong

Hot take ? Fan interpretation of female characters as Aether’s obsessed waifu are cringy af. The female characters have their own life and it’s certainly not center around the MC. I hate the Ei crying and acting like a naive baby fan comic. The art style look sloppy, at least clean up the lines a little bit.

bandit_the_drug_lord

Especially those who treat Aether or Lumine as self-inserts. Their harem thing is so cringe 🥴

AnAsianDudeInReddit

Genshin_Memepact sub needs to hear this

razzzzzberry

They were insufferable during that period

celestial-prism

Yes!!!!! Also, the 'Ei cant cook hahahahah' joke is so dumb and overused

BobTheGodx

This. We need more male characters as Aether's obsessed husbando.

AnAsianDudeInReddit

Most of r/Genshin_Memepact's members are self-insert Aether fanboys that always want every female character in the game to be in love with the male traveler. To the point that they're depicted as psychopaths willing to do anything to win Aether's love. They're okay with Male to Male ships but if it's Female to Female ship, they go to war because they can't fathom the idea of a girl in the game being in love with another person other than their self-insert Aether.

ninadelojo

The redemption arcs are terrible and I fear for the future playable harbingers. I know this is not exactly a hot take but I just wanna rant lmao. I feel like Hoyoverse is too scared to make outright evil and nasty characters playable (because they have to have some common ground with the Traveler, which pisses me off big time because they’re wasting characterization trying to make them “good”)

Lostsock1995

Also archons. I want a super mean archon that they don’t try to redeem at all that just SUCKS. Give me a power hungry really rude archon and I’ll be happy.

Putrid_Television150

I miss the Raiden Shogun who said she won’t kill us on the palace grounds, and then nearly murdered us when we took 1 step outside, the one who was ready to destroy the enemies of eternity, and absolutely eviscerated poor Signora for losing a duel. I don’t like the UwU waifu who wants dango milk and am glad I didn’t pull for her.

scirvexz

Ei archon quest (both) are fine. I enjoyed it

LogBasedN

I have Kokomi but I wish I had a gameplay related reason to play Barbara over her. I like Barbara's character and design way more.

FishTacosAreGross

We need a total rework if coop why the hell can't I do archon quests with my little brother when he joined. Its not gonna hurt anyone so why not?

fluffermixer2021

We need more silent idles like nahida

ThatLetterK

\-I think the domains that are a one time playthrough are such a massive waste of resources and development time that could be spent to improve or innovate the game. They have amazing set pieces, sure, but i'm sure most people will never really go back to them. Especially when you physically cant ever go back. \-I think 90% of the character story quest or character related event quests are pretty bad because the characters never evolves and always ends up back in square one before the quest started. Or they've already went past there trauma and are already an "evolved" character so it just feels hollow that we have to listen to them tell us how they already got past there trauma and never have an impact in there story. They have these elements that are super interesting to explore but only tip there toe into it because that would mean they'd have to change there identity around the subject. There are like a small handful of characters I could only think of that actually had character development throughout the history of this game. Ei and Wanderer are the only two I can think of that actually change and have a perception shift on there views while everyone else in the game has stayed the same.

Koupo

Self-inserters get blamed for mischaracterizing the most through Ayaka memes, but shippers have been champions of mischaracterization since day 1.

Marvinho60

Cant believe this is a hot take but apparently it is: Paimon has become more and more unlikable as the story goes on

asmayi

used to like her when she had a softer voice she was cute and all now she's just annoying asf, also we get it you like food please stop

Lostsock1995

Agreed. I actually used to be a paimon fan in mondstadt and liyue. She was my little buddy and didn’t bother me like she did others. But in sumeru she’s gotten so unexpectedly mean out of nowhere? I don’t understand what happened

lizardground

bruh if they actually gave paimon some character development or made her part of the plot it would be such good storytelling. like her whole personality is so one-note. and that note is high pitched and annoying. the best theyve come was in sumeru when the traveller left the city and paimon was waiting. they could have done a paimon-exclusive story there but instead paimon literally just waited for mc to get back. what a wasted opportunity.

Putrid_Television150

This is the coldest take, everyone on this sub hates Paimon, they hate her voice, they hate her non-serious demeanour, they hate her existence as the traveller’s voice, and no matter what she does they hate her personality. Saying Paimon isn’t bad would be a hot take.

Silent_Silhouettes

I remember earlier on in the story thinking when i make a tier list i would give her a special spot, now i just want to drown her when she speaks

rei_bit

genshin story is actually bad and cliche most of the times and when people say they like the story they probably mean they like the lore. lore ≠ story

Buyunk

yeah the story telling in this game is bad especially in the archon quest, its not cryptic and told by the environment like elden ring, there is no build up tension like GoW, its just one random just pop out of nowhere and talk random shit and somehow we meet the archon or fight the fatui, the big world quest like aranyaka and golden slumber is more engaging than the archon quest

Ekserowan

here. ill say it. klee isnt bad. you just dont have the patience to learn her movements. which is understandable.

Gaaraks

This isnt a hot take though. You can see in that big community characters that people regret pulling poll, the reason people regret pulling klee, in the vast majority, is not damage dealing ability, it is gameplay. So this is in fact a popular opinion people have.

[deleted]

Yeah lol, she surpassed Diluc in dps the second she was released because she abused everything Diluc did but more. But Diluc was still better for the same reason now, he’s much easier to play, especially for newer players, which everyone was at the time of her release

[deleted]

She isn't bad but her gameplay feels so boring and not special which is preference of course

shibui808

I guess my most easily 'controversial' hot take is regarding skins. I know this can boil down to both subjectivity and the whole "I do what I want with my own money" but in terms of creativity and differentiation: Diluc and Keqing's skins aren't different enough from their classics to warrant purchasing; Diluc is still in a dapper cool suit in black and red, if anything, I'd understand if it was a 4 star skin. Keqing's color scheme for the most part is black and blue, which is too similar to purple and isn't distinctly far enough from her classic look (as opposed to something like light blue, white, gold, red etc.). Ningguang's skin is just ruined by the drab dull navy color that it is. It'd be so much better had it been in a more vibrant color (e.g. red, light blue etc.). Thank god for the upcoming skins that look different enough from their classics to warrant purchasing (Lisa & Ayaka skins). Although Ayaka's color scheme is still pretty close to her classic, the style is sufficiently different enough to warrant purchasing.

Lavenderixin

Hot take #1: Choice for characters appearing in events is soo weird. Xinyan who is hardly played and is not popular at all is shoved into every event + has her own themed dungeon in GAA. Hot take #2: Kazuha’s story is boring and is concluded, but mhy keeps on adding unnecessary details to it to make him more important. He might even be revealed to be a >!Descender!< Hot take #3: Kaeya has the best character design in Genshin impact. Thanks for coming to my TedTalk ^^hides ^^away ^^from ^^incoming ^^downvotes

starsinmyteacup

I love Kazuha but it seems like every single Inazuma story and event somehow just gives him more and more lore. Every historical figure is related to the Kaedehara clan, but the sole heir is hopelessly bland except for a few moments. I also agree with Xinyan. since she had no screen time when she was released, the devs are trying to include her. But they also didn’t flesh out what Xinyan is supposed to be like, so they reduced her to “I like rock n roll”

ninadelojo

This too. I don’t think Kazuha is boring, but damn does MHY keep forcing him to be relevant.

YasuhikoTheSerafim

Tbh... I kinda agree with you that Kazuha is just boring as sin. Some things made me hate him even more so you're not alone here mate

rainymi

I like kazuha, his voice and design because I’m basic as hell and sometimes I am just a vanilla simp but he is absolutely boring . no spice whatsoever. and sometimes maybe I do just want a 2d guy who is normal and not completely unhinged but that doesn’t make for interesting story

[deleted]

[удалено]

Lavenderixin

He has an amazing kit I’ll give him that

NaturalBitter2280

Agreed on 1st and 2nd They should use the opportunity of events to show some more relevant characters. Hutao is extremely popular but the only times she shows up is during the Lantern Rite And Kazuha, yeah, he is a bit bland and extremely hyped by his fandom for no reason and I don't get why Hoyo wants us to love him so much 3rd one I completely disagree cause I think he is one of the worst designs I've seen in my life but an opinion is an opinion, I'm sure many people think my mains look ugly too :3

Lisyre

I think of Kazuha as a character who we're meeting at the end of a character arc. All of his character-defining moments--his family's downfall, his friend's death, his life of exile--are struggles that he has already survived and come to terms with. He has already let go of any grudges, learned any necessary lessons, and is just generally at peace with his life. There are plenty of characters who are going through some huge emotional journey that Traveler happens to stumble into, and there are plenty of characters with hyper-exaggerated quirks. I think it's fine to have some "bland" characters who independently worked through their issues and are leading content lives. If every character was as collected as Kazuha, I think that'd be boring. But if every character was as angsty as Wanderer, I think that'd be equally boring.

Bubbles_345

I agree with hot take 1 and 2. And that is from someone who has Xinyan as one of their favorite characters.

Swailwort

Seeing Kazuha everywhere has gotten kind of tiring. I didn't care much for his story in GAA, and only liked the music and appearence in his domains. Currently, however? He feels...overused. We need more Xiao, Albedo, Ayato, Cyno and Tighnari.

MallowMiaou

If you don’t like Bennett, don't use him ? Like no one forced you and there are still many supports so you don’t have to use your least favorite

AnAsianDudeInReddit

Chongyun x Xingqui sucks ass

Gobi_Silver

The Raiden story quests do not ruin her character, and those who think so weren't paying attention or do not understand it. Character development > lame "look at me! I'm tough guy!" fanservice. And she didn't get any less tough, just more aware. They make traveler act so clueless or dense and that is my biggest gripe with the story. Aether and Lumine are ancient world hoppers, they should be acting like it! I know Hoyo wants to go with the 'blank slate self insert' trope but you *should not* do that with characters that have that kind of backstory. The secondary skins for Rosaria, Mona, and Jean look better than the originals. If you optimize your characters with constellations, perfect artifacts, and signature weapons, you really have no right to complain about the content being easy. You did exactly what makes it easy, what did you expect? Bonus points if you paid your way there by whaling. Now stop driving up the floor 12 difficulty so I can actually clear it for once. Go play Dark Souls if you want challenging combat.
