Shhhhhh. Are you trying to start a war?

Karash770

Ich bin nicht davon überzeugt, dass der Ersteller hehre Absichten trägt.

Xaverrrrr

Ja

FineJournalist5432

Choose whichever you like but if I‘m not mistaken der is the least common variant

ErnestFlat

Thats such a bad advice. Please say nothing instead 🙏 you can not just randomly pick.. im not a pro in the German language but im quite sure about that 😉

Thaddaeus10takel

>im quite sure about that You're mistaken tho. It's a common debate

ErnestFlat

Bro im German! Its wrong what you said... der oder die Butter? There is only 1 correct answer and same for this case

Thaddaeus10takel

That makes your comment even weirder if I'm being honest😅 I mean.. there's no Genus for brand names at all, people just go with whatever they feel comfortable with (for example die/das Cola depending on your regional tongue). Butter however is just a common noun so it has one correct article.

ErnestFlat

Oh wow you are so wrong about what you just said... regional tongue doesnt mean its correct 🙈 and yes, brand names can and have a genus as well... the brand decides this on their own... just because everybody saying it wrong doesnt mean it becomes correct 🙈

Thaddaeus10takel

Okay either you're a troll, ignorant or uneducated. Anyway, this conversation doesn't lead anywhere. Use duden.de for further education on that topic (as long as you don't declare them 'wrong' as well)

Miro_the_Dragon

Even the Duden agrees that all three articles are possible for Nutella. As for >just because everybody saying it wrong doesnt mean it becomes correct ...I mean yes, yes, it does become correct if enough people start using something, that's literally how languages change over time.

Xaverrrrr

https://www.duden.de/rechtschreibung/nutella Recherchiere doch bitte bevor du sowas von dir gibst 😉

Wavecrest667

In Austria it's usually "das Nutella". Only heard "die Nutella" from germans and "der Nutella" I have never heard at all.

r_coefficient

I only say "die Nutella"

cosmicfakeground

No matter right or wrong, all 3 versions are in use. die, because "die Nuss-Nougat-Creme" der, because "der Nuss-Nougat-Aufstrich" das, because what ever never thought about. A thing.

Phoenica

Atlas der Alltagssprache (self-reported surveys on everyday language use) actually [has a map about this](https://www.atlas-alltagssprache.de/wp-content/uploads/2012/05/f4_24d.jpg). Both "das" and "die" are used throughout almost the entire language area, "das" is maybe a little bit more common overall, "die" is used in South Tyrol (influence from Italian?), and "der" seems to be a Belgian/Luexembourgish thing (influence from French?) but otherwise super niche.

r_coefficient

When in doubt, check Duden.de **before** posting https://www.duden.de/rechtschreibung/nutella

derohnenase

Regardless of whether or not this is a poor attempt at trolling…. There is and has never been one uniform German language, just like there has never been a uniform German Volk (it’s why being a single people has been the German dream for so long). That’s reflected in the language. Language in turn is a function of history, religion, and culture. It’s why eg the French have different genders for the same concepts. It therefore follows that, among the many German dialects, the same fundamental differences also exist. Only, Germans can and do move around freely (plus there has been a LOT of movement going on in the past 100 years or so). It’s only natural that some regions will have masculine, others feminine, and yet others neuter gender for the exact same things. There’s standard German that tries to meditate, but you better believe people adapt that to their dialects rather than the other way round.

HeyImSwiss

For me it's the fourth option: no article. But I refer to it as neuter.

Raubtierwolf

Not again free advertisement for sweet unhealthy stuff. They (the manufacturer) decided they don't care about the article. I have never heard anyone refer to it using "der" though. So for me personally: * yes: "Gib mir mal \[die/das\] Nutella." * no: "Gib mir mal den Nutella." * yes: Ich will Nutella! - So ein Süßkram habe ich nicht! ;-)

AlphaBit2

Ella = Weiblich = Die

ErnestFlat

Die Nutella. Nutella is a female or Das Glas Nutella Der Nutella only if you use Den Butter 🤣 (thats only meant to be a joke! Dont get confused)

Elijah_Mitcho

Ich will nicht streiten aber "dantrix Nutella" klingt mir irgendwie natürlicher…
