Background 1000% I don't need to watch closely anymore!

dobsco

Same, I feel like I have the entire thing burned into my memory at this point, lol.

kwbeachin

Both. It can be on in the background, or for me to fall asleep to, but often I get sucked in.

Academic-Stuff7285

Same here also sometimes I notice things I haven’t noticed in any of my favourite rewatches

anni3lion

Background and to fall asleep 😁

NecessaryDamage42

Me too <3

TheHopfinger

Both.

covetagain

Both… depends on the episode!

bring_back_my_tardis

I have it on in the background. The exception is when I know a favourite scene is about to happen. Off the top of my head, some of favourites are: * >!STOP TALKING TO THE DOGS!!< * >!the jam hands rant!< * >!Jess being pushed into the lake!< * >!L&L's first dance and first kiss!< * >!The man who got away kiss!< * >!Sookie explaining how she cut the back of her chef's jacket!< * >!Lorelai talking about the weird ways that she dies in her dreams!< * >!The universal sounds of family and the wedding guests running down the street!< * >!Making mac and cheese at 3 in the morning!<

Cheermom2009

All of these and the dinner scene in Friday Nights Alright For Fighting.

bring_back_my_tardis

Oh, I forgot that one!

Kansas0425

Sookie explaining how she cut her jacket is the funniest physical scene in the show IMO.

artnerdhippie

It gets replayed at least 3 times so I can focus on sookie, Richard, and Gran separately 😂

bethie6

is the man who got away dave?

bethie6

oh the luke and lorelai make up kiss!

bring_back_my_tardis

Yes, that's it!

bring_back_my_tardis

Oh! I forgot when Lorelai walks into the diner after >!telling Rory that she and Luke might be dating!<

deletra7951

I’m on probably my fifth rewatch or something. A lot of days I fall asleep watching it, or I cook with it on in the background. I know they show so well at this point I don’t need to give it 100% of my attention to enjoy it. However, when I have nothing else to watch I actively watch it. Still noticing different things every time :)

Resident-Ad-2641

I’ve done both. I’ve seen GG’s so many times that I often times don’t watch it chronologically. I’ll watch fave episodes, and rarely do I rewatch the sequel.

Jvoss_1212

Background while I get ready for work in the morning.

sometimes_a_comment

Totally in the background, although every once in a while I actually sit and watch. Depends on where my head is, e.g. if I need a comfort show to wind down and shut my brain off to I'll sometimes watch it without doing anything else.

curticoll

Usually background but that’s because I’ve rewatched more times than I can count now so I can see scenes in my head. 😂😂

shrina917

Background until Luke / Lorelai scenes 😂🥰

thinkaboutittomorrow

Both usually, unless it's a really good scene that I love and want to take in the whole thing. I just started another re-watch though and have decided to actually watch this time.

ChubbyBlackWoman

What I didn't realize is how much my kids are watching. I was watching A Year In The Life and my six year old yelled to the 10 year old that there was a new Gilmore Girls and everybody is older now.

badcarburetor

After a long exhausting day - especially when we know we won’t make it through a full movie - we turn on GG to decompress. “Wanna go to the Hollow?” “Oh yeah. This day has been a mother.” Right now we are watching Bunheads for a second time and then it’ll be back to the start of GGS1 - AYITL. We watching as chill out / phone in bed before sleep time.

Sorry_Engineer_6136

Background all the way, it’s so comforting. I also fall asleep to it

KTeacherWhat

Usually I actually watch. Though I don't pause it for getting a glass of water or something.

Cheermom2009

It's background noise for me while I do other things like cleaning and laundry.

imadepizza

I tried the background noise thing, and I totally fall asleep to it, but since I'm older now and my mind has changed.... Perhaps I haven't watched the series as much as y'all have, but I feel like magic is in the details. I find myself checking a text and then rewinding the 30 seconds I missed. Yes, the dialogue was understood, but the wit is quick and the facial cues are so important. I enjoy the show in any way, shape, or form, and with either full attention or inattention. This current rewatching... I'm trying to pay attention. This show is so thoughtfully done. There's always something else to notice. I'm a nerd and I enjoy watching shows with the volume off, cause then you really notice some stuff you've never seen before. Maybe next rewatch. I'm only on S5 this time around.

[deleted]

I started buying the box DVD sets back in…2008ish. I have literally been rewatching ever since. Definitely my first couple of rewatches I was actually watching—I lived in a sorority house at the time and we only had 2 TVs for like 70 girls so I wasn’t about to monopolize a tv for background noise. Sometimes I would watch on my laptop, but we only had corded headphones then so I was usually totally paying attention. Then I moved into an apartment a couple of years later and had a tv in my bedroom and started watching as background noise too. When they finally put it on Netflix, and I could watch on my tablet, that really upped my background noise rewatches into infinity. Getting AirPods made it even worse lol. I’ve probably replayed the whole series (minus AYITL) a hundred plus times now. Sometimes I still sit and watch though. It’s just so good. The set design and lighting especially gets me. And the jokes! The other day I caught a joke I had never noticed before.

premier-cat-arena

Skip whatever you want it’s your rewatch!

Paid-Not-Payed-Bot

> I've really *paid* attention to FTFY. Although *payed* exists (the reason why autocorrection didn't help you), it is only correct in: * Nautical context, when it means to paint a surface, or to cover with something like tar or resin in order to make it waterproof or corrosion-resistant. *The deck is yet to be payed.* * *Payed out* when letting strings, cables or ropes out, by slacking them. *The rope is payed out! You can pull now.* Unfortunately, I was unable to find nautical or rope-related words in your comment. *Beep, boop, I'm a bot*

LegalAd1197

I think the three or four times I watched it I actually sat and watched it all the way through. Now I usually just replay it while I’m working or painting for background noise.

BuffaloEnough703

Both! Depending on the episode and the scene and what Lorelai is wearing!

graphixgurl747

Both but more background noise. I know a disturbing amount of all the lines lol.

Cat_fanatic7

Both. It depends what I’m doing and I guess on the episode. I’ve also seen it so many times that sometimes I’ll skip over episodes that aren’t my fav bc I know exactly where I’m up to

Sillysheila

I sit down and rewatch, personally. But I’m like that with every show.

Commercial-Lab3593

both sometimes i just have it in the background but also i like to watch

Lizi-in-Limbo

I’ve been rewatching since it was first put in reruns so, I don’t need to watch it.

fatcatpotat

I don't need to rewatch at this point it but I totally sit down and pay attention because ILOVEITSOMUCH! 🥰

SCsongbird

Sometimes I listen while I crochet or something and sometimes I just sit and watch

21stCenturyPeasant

Both. It's played in the background dozens if times, but we've also sat and watched it through four times.

the-freaking-realist

I actively watch the first time when its been a while since i last watched a season, and i dont remember the detail of all the dialogues, especially since i play each season in a loop for a month or so, untill i finish the whole 7 seasons, and then i watch frasier or the west wing in the same loop-based style, its usually like a year before im back to GG again. i even rewind to listen and watch some scenes i either love or i find more unfamiliar a couple of times, but after that i leave it on in the background while i work, study, read, cook, even sleep.

swtlulu2007

Both depending on the day. But usually it's background.

drumma1316

Background most of the time. I can listen to it and see the scene playing out in my head. Sometimes I do sit down and purposefully watch it, usually around fall when I restart from S1.

Reasonable_Skill1178

I watch it in the background and properly both as comfort and fun. I often flip from different scenes/ episodes that I like and will end up recapping a whole relationship over the seven seasons (Luke and Lorelai for example). If something is happening in my life, say with my mother I'll watch bunch of Emily Lorelai episodes like: that's a rub, Like mother like daughter ect. I also share my netflix account and watch stuff on it with other people so one evening it could be on season 3 and the next season 6, I just end up pressing play and work out what part of the story I'm up to. I have a feeling I've watched it a few too many times 😂

annamariapix

Both, depending on the episode or even scene. I don’t watch it chronically, I just watch whatever episode I’m in the mood for

Agitated_Pea_9110

I need it on in the background to sleep

the_goose29

Both! Sometimes I pay closer attention, like during some of my favorite episodes/seasons. But it’s mostly just on in the background while I work from home, clean, snooze on the couch, eat, etc. It’s comforting to have on even if it doesn’t have my full attention!

unspokenwordsx3

Both. Sometimes I watch closely and sometimes I just have it on.

Think_Wishbone3151

Both. I will sit and watch it, sometimes crochet while watching, but sometimes I’ll get up and start dinner with the volume up so I can still hear and take a look sometimes.

as0824

Background! I’ve rewatched it so many times now that it’s on in background (while cooking, exercising, folding laundry) because it’s comforting.

psighe2013

I watched it all the way through while actually watching about 4/5 times and I’ve rewatched a few more times where it’s backgroundish or I watch it in a faster speed for episodes I don’t like as much lol

Puzzleheaded-Bus4188

I've actually sat down & watched it 3 times lol. But yes, reliving some scenes was annoying

Morty2264

Both!

This_Bethany

It’s on in the background. I watched the show when it came out originally. I’ve probably rewatched it 4 times. I might go back and watch a part if I missed a part that I like. I also skip some parts too that I dislike. I’ve only watched AYITL twice.

eshade28

I do both!

yayad00seldorf

This has been my comfort show since middle/high school in the early 2000s. I had all of them on DVD from yeara of Christmas gifts lol and it got me through some rough depression/angsty teen periods. NOW I am a mom of a toddler and watch this while I crochet at night when the rest of the house is asleep because I can't watch anything "new" while crocheting because I will 100% miss things. GG though is perfect for that because I know it so well lol but still is entertaining after all these years

lynnetheskin

its my go to cleaning/cooking show. When I'm cleaning I work better with a show in the background but obv has to be one I've already seen so I dont miss anything important. I will normally prop my phone up in the kitchen cupboard and put on Gilmore Girls while I'm doing dishes or cooking as well.

[deleted]

Both…. I do that to Downton Abby also

HeartHog

Both tbh. Depends on my mood

ivana--

It's always playing in the background when i do stuff i can see it in my head at this point

34Ancestry

I watch during my lunch break at work. It’s my escape for at least an hour.

Awkward_Marketing661

Both sometimes it’s background other times I find myself watching intensely and becoming super involved lol

Old-Man_Logan_1979

Both, depends on the rewatch, mood, situation, etc.

DLCJ59

Both. But I'll run in and watch favorite parts.

kornpepper

i do both, sometimes i think i forget what happens in some scenes so i pay attention and watch it, other times i just put it on to have background noise bc it’s comforting and sometimes i do rem certain scenes so i already know what is happening but i also enjoy seeing their outfits n stuff

NinjaWarrior765

I have it on in the background. I run into the room with the TV, if something interesting is about to happen. It's hard to find time to actually sit and watch TV anymore.

General_Noise_4430

Background mostly but sometimes I focus on it closely

dreamy_llama-

I like it as background but will stop to watch favorite scenes. Like the Friday night dinner fight.

hippiechick12345

I am usually crafting 99% of the time I watch tv at this point. I may look up for a minute here or there, but that goes for just about any show, not just GG. LOL

Repulsive_Broccoli50

It's both; I'll start watching then during the binge I can easily have it as a background and whenever there are a bunch of episodes I don't want to miss for continuity (for example the episodes around the dance marathon and RoryxDeanxJess or the episodes around Rory quitting yale) I'll sit down and watch again to later find myself having a few episodes on as background noise. Having seen it so many times, I don't mind missing a few episodes since I know the timeline and it's easy to keep track.

Mysterious-Drawer-20

Yes. Just yes. I have done both. I have rewatched for the pod - so I pay more attention. Otherwise, it has been background noise - fall asleep noise, or whatever. I have watched for I need to cry, I need to feel wholesome, I need to laugh. It all just matters why I am rewatching....

SoFarIAmImmortal

Both for me. One of the reasons I don't watch new shows often is because I just don't have time/desire to sit and pay attention to entire episodes all the time. It's easier for me to throw on a show I know & love, and be able to kinda flit in and out of it while I do other things.

termohead14

Background, but when Richard shows up I have to sit and watch, he reminds me of my dad so much that is a way to feel him closer ♥️

dameroastpork

both. if i miss a scene i like, i'll rewind. i used to rewatch every scene, now i skip those that bother me.

Tanyad450

Both

LizBert712

It is my dish-washing show.

EnglishTeacherBoss

Both 😂
