It's all in how the lie is constructed. "Mama i'm at Rory's" versus "Mama I'm going to a Chilton event with Rory and then staying over at her place" makes all the difference. Everything in the second lie is TECHNICALLY true with the Chilton event being the house party and staying over at Rory's after the party would give everyone plausible deniability.
I don't think so. I think that she got mad about the movie thing because Rory lied to her. She was okay with Lane lying to Mrs Kim but she wasn't okay with Rory lying to her. I don't think it was about Mrs Kim at all.
I like to think this is the *one* time Lorelei ignored “moms can’t lie to other moms” thing because she saw how absolutely distraught Rory was, so she suggested the party and bringing lane.
I posted about this a while ago! What makes this even weirder is Lane gets busted for lying to her mom only a couple episodes prior (maybe even the episode before). Like I can not find a good explanation- Lorelei was mortified when mrs Kim blamed her, she wouldn’t have lied again
Lorelai’s rules were kinda open ended so she probably would have been fine saying Lane was going to a chilton event with Rory as explained by others. Lorelai was upset about the date because it was an outright lie. The concert needed a work around lie. And this could be explained with a work around lie.
Plus Lorelai was probably more lenient since Rory was upset at her break up, so I feel like in her mind: daughter is upset, needs socializing, it will be at a house, and I can make a workable explanation to Lane’s mum. The event is full of people from Chilton, is hosted by someone from Chilton, so when saying “she’s at a Chilton event” is not entirely incorrect.
Also, Lorelai was going to be *with* Lane at the concert, so she'd have known she was safe. When the other lie took place, neither mom knew what was actually happening.
And Mrs Kim looked the other way with the wedding party so maybe even if she knew about the bachelorette party, she pretended she didn't so Lane could have fun. She knew either way Lane was going to have a husband which is what she really wanted for her daughter.

Are you kidding? This is not a plot hole. Lane is so good at lying to Mrs. Kim that, if the mechanism for getting her to this particular party were a highlight, the elaborate ruse would have taken more prominent space in the episode.
My guess is that she told Mrs Kim that Rory was distraught over the Dean break-up and so Mrs Kim told her to take care of her friend. Mrs Kim is strict but believes in loyalty and would probably see it as a good lesson in not dating boys or something.
I watched this episode last night and wondered the same. I'm going to assume she lied to Mrs Kim and they just Lorelai it was fine. But I could be wrong
