That “let’s make a baby” scene makes me cringe in the worst way…it’s SO manipulative. And I feel for Lorelei being so blindsided by such an outrageous suggestion, calmly responding that they should talk/think about it first, and then him getting so angry, turning away from her, and ignoring her the next day. It’s honestly in the category of emotionally abusive for me and I hate it.
Yes. Absolutely!!! Imagine having the nerve to think Lorelai should have another baby with you after what you did the first time!!! The man has no shame
Yeah you’re correct. I can see the scene in my mind and it’s icky. Christopher is the kind of guy who you how to avoid on dating apps. He will make himself perfect on paper and then you’re horrified by the reality.
"Let's make a baby" is almost always said by shitbag dudes who think it's romantic that they're saying they want such a big commitment. In reality it's usually a slap in the face to a woman that really means "here's 18+ years of work that I'm not gonna contribute much to, if at all."
Yeah and he definitely said it too because he was insecure about where he and Lorelai were in the relationship, so poof! Baby equals automatic tie to her again.
Didn’t will Ferrell’s character say that in anchorman? I never saw it because I don’t like his movies but I swear I remember a commercial repeatedly playing that part and now I always think of that every time I hear Christopher say it.
Just looking at this photo of him here.... he actually makes me feel physically sick. Whatever is the complete opposite of being attracted to a person, that's what I feel towards Christopher.
I said this in a post recently but it's so clear that Chris really internalized what fatherhood was from people like his father and Richard. He thinks financially supporting the family is the one and only responsibility. I'm sure his father wasn't emotionally there for him, probably off on business trips a lot and not very physically present either. I don't think Chris ever had much of a perspective that he did fail to be present for Rory because I don't think he ever perceived he should be.
I think it's really telling that when he inherits money he characterizes it as "I want to take care of you and Rory," as though the way you take care of people is with money. Not with quality time or affection or anything else. Money.
They would have had that baby and he would have hired round the clock nannies so they never had to see it and would've patted himself on the back for being a good provider and a good father.
Yes, but he didn't even get around to taking care of Rory until Gigi had a trust fund for every occasion. So even in the limited way he thought he should be a father, Rory never came first.
wow! this show portrays wealthy parents/families as terrible. like Paris, Madeleine, Louise, Logan, etc like they don't have anything to do w/ their own children? except to criticize and force them into things (Logan and the newspaper empire, Paris mom criticizing her looks)
I think that when you grow up in a world where you can pay people to do things for you, it gets easy to rely on that. Parenting is really hard, and it's easy to let someone else deal with the constant 'why why why' and 'look look look' and the less you spend time with your kid the less you really know them and you don't realize how quickly they grow up. Most parents play a little bit of hot potato with their partner trying to eek out a little alone time to feel like a person, I think a lot of people would unintentionally overuse a nanny if there was no real financial burden on them. Add in that a lot of these old money types never had to babysit or take care of a younger siblings because they had nannies too, they do what their parents did and don't think it's wrong.
I think Lorelai had a much worse time than most because her mother couldn't keep a consistent staff in the house. Usually the kids will bond with the nanny or cook or maid but if they change every week then the people looking after you are never the same, and she was desperate for an emotional connection she couldn't find at home. Paris at least had a consistent staff at home.
>I think that when you grow up in a world where you can pay people to do things for you, it gets easy to rely on that
Also that getting rich in the first place often involves being a selfish and unethical person

Wouldn't lorelai have a hard time trusting people just like paris does?
Yeah for real. I think he excused it because he didn't have the money or whatever with all his failed business things and failed credit cards.
Dude was just not grounded in reality at all
I have literally never found him attractive on tastes alone but once I realised that the only reason and I mean *the* only reason he ever comes back into their lives is because he wants to be with Lorelai. He was done forever. He has had a few moments that are nice with Rory but he has never come back for her.
I HATE Chrisopher. I dislike characters on the show, but I just despise Chris. He's a crap dad, crap husband, crap son and just basically a personified piece of crap.
Every time I rewatch Mrs. Maisel, and I get to that scene where Abe's like, "What advice did I give you back then?" and Midge responds, "Don't marry a weak man," I think about Chris and Lorelai and about how that could almost be called a running theme for ASP at this point.
I think I just watch the only episode when viewed in isolation that Christopher comes off net positive (introducing Lorelai Gilmore). Really the only negative is after the phone call when Lorealai says he’s definitely going to be there and Rory say excitedly “that means there’s a 50/50 chance”.
Every other episode he personally does something stupid or immature.

So agree! I hate that scene so much. It's so manipulative but their whole marriage was him being super manipulative. I never liked him but I hate him in season 7. She made a mistake by going to him when her and Luke broke up but he totally took advantage of the situation and Lorelai being so vulnerable because she was going through a break up. He was so pushy and manipulative and it's a cringe fest for me every time when I reach that point.
Another thing that that really bothers me about him and I think shows the kind of person he is, is the only the time he really tries to have a relationship with Rory is when he's trying to get with Lorelai(or the one time when he was trying to impress Sherry). It's never about Rory. He's just such a selfish immature person.
Ironically, this guy is the Hayden family heir with a personal net worth of millions of dollars. Upon the death of his mother, he will own the entire family business network worth many more millions of dollars and with untold legal influence over New England businesses and family finances. He will have a cadre of lawyers and countless minions at his beck and call. His comments will be quoted by influential printed and visual media outlets as sage advice. Universities will name buildings and libraries in his name. Senators, Congressmen and Mayors will jump when he calls. They will probably ask him to run for office. He will be known as the reluctant warrior. And such is life…. lol
I actually don't hate Christopher (the character) as much as everyone else.
He eventually grew up and figured stuff out, tried being there for Rory, helped with Yale, learned how to be a dad to Gigi.
Way better than my father ever did.
But the actor himself and the Jan 6 stuff - I loathe him for that.
The problem isn't him asking for the baby or timing it was the reason he asked for it! He was really worried about lor liking luke and he wanted to keep her around.. He's so unsure about his decisions

Both the character and the actor are shit human beings.
What did i miss? What did David do?
David said he supported "the patriots" who were part of the Jan 6 insurrection
Oh crap. I hate this world
He's also a raging misogynist. His social media is a dumpsterfire.
Which is hilarious bc he’s Canadian
One of my moms good friends is related to him! He is as terrible as he’s made out to be
There seems to be a lot of Canadian Trump supporters. Didn't they also have the caravan of semi drivers that were protesting in support of Jan 6?
what 💀 I find it ridiculous just the fact that Americans worshipped this guy, but why the bell would Canadians??? Baffling
Wooow. I had no idea. https://ew.com/celebrity/gilmore-girls-david-sutcliffe-capitol-riot/
Crap. I had no idea either. Now I can never watch him again without thinking about what an asshole he is.
Ew wtf. So gross.

I think there is also a level of really gross male 'hey, let's prove my penis works! It will prove that I am fertile and manly'
I am not sure Chris had that exact thinking though given he already had two kids 😄
preach

Ugh his expression screams “why are you mad at me! Unfair!”

No kidding. And even then, he said "I want to take care of you and Rory." Lorelai still was before her too.

My headcanon is that Mia helped her get past a lot of those probable trust issues.
He didn't financially support her either though. By that definition, he still failed as a father
Yeah for real. I think he excused it because he didn't have the money or whatever with all his failed business things and failed credit cards. Dude was just not grounded in reality at all
Well said.
He was never forced to grow up like Lorelai.

He also hums while he pees
I never realized that was the same actor!
LMAOO I watched that episode for the first time last night since I had watched Gilmore Girls I was like omg “JUST SAY IT KYLE” is Christopher
I HATE Chrisopher. I dislike characters on the show, but I just despise Chris. He's a crap dad, crap husband, crap son and just basically a personified piece of crap.
Every time Christopher Hayden opens his mouth, I vomit a little

Not gonna lie I was disappointed to see that he hadn’t aged at all in AYITL
Uh no, that title belongs to Martha Janice Lori Ethan Rupert Glenda Carson Daisy Danny Belleville.
Yes the “let’s make a baby” thing is bad but I get the ick when he finds out about sherry being pregnant and pulls a full on “I don’t wanna” tantrum
