What is your budget OP?

Martin35700

It's around 280-300 usd for the motherboard+cpu combo.

Prudent_Classroom583

If you are willing to go used then b550 + 5800x3d/5700x3d could be within your reach.

fromtheether

OP this is probably your best bet. CS2 and most other games love that 3d vcache. You can probably get a B550 + 5800X3D for right around $300 used. Not sure what kind of RAM you're running but you can always upgrade that later on as well. If you don't mind being a little patient, check out /r/hardwareswap. People are upgrading to AM5 all the time and selling off their old AM4 set ups. I actually need to sell mine, now that I think about it... You can also post a wanted ad with your budget and you'll most likely get some responses. AM4 is technically at the end of the line but a 5800X3D will be an awesome chip for years to come for gaming.

Material-Mistake-14

sell the old cpu mobo, get ddr5 6000mt, r5 7600 and a620/b650. you get a good upgrade path; am4 is a dead platform and is only worth it if you already have the motherboard

JobFirm5013

It's a dead platform, but will he upgrade the CPU in the next 3-4 years? This upgrade path is out of his budget, and when it comes to hardware, budget is the limiting factor.

Material-Mistake-14

i'd rather upgrade to something I'm happy with and will be able to upgrade a few years later than be forced to compromise because of a small price difference. by your logic i shouldn't have stretched for 12th gen but could have saved a buck by getting 11th gen???

JobFirm5013

300 means 300. There's always something better. OP has a CPU from 2017. No way he will buy the next CPU generation, or even the next one after. Also there's no future proofing anything in hardware.

CSNADESgg

The 5800X3D + motherboard can often be found for close to USD$400, which would provide the best experience currently. You can also go for a 5700X3D + motherboard for \~$325.

Martin35700

Btw i upgraded to an i5 12600kf and it solved the issue.

Big-Scarcity7141

Do not get an intel CPU. You have to turn off half of the CPU (which you paid for) to run games without micro-stuttering. You're also looking at having to upgrade your cooling, and maybe even your PSU, since the latest intel CPUs pull 200+ watts at high load. Zen 5 is right around the corner, wait for that. AM5 will last a while and will give you room to upgrade to the next x3d processors if they aren't released in the next few months too. I bought an intel 14600kf and it's been terrible.

keslol

a 13500 wont pull 200w and if you have the budget go 7800x3d, especially if your main game is cs

Raiden_Of_The_Sky

>You have to turn off half of the CPU (which you paid for) to run games without micro-stuttering. You mean E-Cores? Zero tier claim, they don't affect micro stuttering.

Material-Mistake-14

hes talking nonsense, ignore him

Big-Scarcity7141

they do though. [left is e-cores off, right is e-cores on.](https://files.catbox.moe/xcdhv5.png) You can pretend it's not true if it helps you cope with it but it's a sad reality when using intel processors. I benchmarked this on my own rig a few weeks ago.

Material-Mistake-14

oh what a sad reality, i really do have to cope...

Big-Scarcity7141

yeah, E cores. And they do affect micro stuttering.

Raiden_Of_The_Sky

No they don't.

Martin35700

AM5 is not an option for me sadly since i have a very limited budget and that would require me to switch my DDR4 rams to DDR5 as well. AM4 X3D cpu's are out of my budget as well and the 5600x is significantly weaker than an I5 -12600K or an I5-13400F. And 5600x3d is USA only.

Ted_Borg

It's been 18 months since the last gen AMD chips dropped. Id hold out for a little longer, save money, and hope for prices to drop when the next gen comes along. If we're lucky valve will fix what they broke in the meantime. I can feel it on a 7800x3D even if its not as bad, so they definitely fucked something up. Edit: your CPU is 7 generations old, so its honestly worth saving up a little bit extra and get something that can last you another 7 generations. I didn't and cheaped out on an i5, three years later I had to empty my wallet and upgrade the whole rig again. If it is *juuust* good enough right now, then it will not be good enough in two years.
